  • Former J.League Player, 25, Released — Club Cites ‘Confirmed Contract Violation’

JFL club Criacao Shinjuku announced on the 9th that it had terminated the contract of forward Iku Wada (25), effective the same day. The club gave only one reason: “conduct confirmed to constitute a breach of contract,” without disclosing any specifics. Wada had joined the club just this July after stints with Azul Claro Numazu and FC Osaka following his time at the University of Tsukuba, and had even appeared in the Emperor’s Cup. On 5ch, the vaguely worded announcement fueled speculation about what actually happened, along with broader questions about how clubs handle disclosure of this kind of scandal.

    Gekisaka, 9/9 19:23

Criacao Shinjuku (JFL) announced on the 8th that it was terminating the contract of forward Iku Wada (25), effective the same day. The club explained on its official site: “Regarding this player, conduct confirmed to constitute a breach of contract was identified; following discussion with the player, the contract has been terminated by mutual agreement.”

Wada went from Hannan University High School to the University of Tsukuba before joining Azul Claro Numazu in 2023. He was the team’s top scorer with 11 goals in J3 in 2024, then made a full transfer to FC Osaka in 2025. When his contract with FC Osaka expired at the end of the 2026 special season, he moved to Criacao Shinjuku in July. So far he had appeared in one JFL match and two Emperor’s Cup matches (first and second rounds).

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

When J.League-affiliated clubs release a player over misconduct, it’s a fairly common practice to announce it only as “conduct constituting a breach of contract” without disclosing the specific violation — likely out of consideration for the player’s honor and privacy, as well as the possibility of ongoing disputes. In the thread, plenty of speculation flew around about what Wada actually did, but the club has offered no further explanation, so none of it should be taken as confirmed. Posters also pointed to a case from this past July in which a 36-year-old former J.League player at another club was suspended indefinitely over a compliance violation, suggesting this kind of vague disclosure is a recurring pattern across the sport. Readers should keep in mind that the specifics of the “breach of contract” remain undisclosed, and should be careful not to mistake speculation for confirmed fact.

  • “Momoe Nagisa” — The Character Who Outshined Everyone in the New Madoka Magica Spinoff

A 5ch thread discussing Momoe Nagisa (voiced by Kana Asumi), a character from a Puella Magi Madoka Magica spinoff, was buzzing with activity. Known in the original series as a cheese-loving girl, she’s portrayed in Magia Record with a far more brazen, easygoing personality — including a side of her that looks after Mami. Background and Key Points of This Topic

At the end of the feature film Rebellion, Momoe Nagisa is depicted as remaining outside the Law of Cycles even after Madoka departs. The “it was for Mami’s sake” theory floated in the thread is purely fan interpretation — easy to mistake for confirmed lore, but it’s never explicitly stated in the work itself. Magia Record (“Magireco”) is a smartphone spinoff in which Nagisa gets an added layer of shamelessness not present in the original: she joins the side fighting a witch outbreak even while knowing full well that her own arrival caused it. This gap between her original portrayal and her Magia Record characterization is what’s driving the thread’s enthusiasm. Also, as noted in the thread, “Red Nagisa” is a separate character who appears in Magia Record, distinct from the Momoe Nagisa of the main series.

    Background and Talking Points

The Hanshin Tigers remain in first place in the Central League, but after dropping this three-game series to the Carp, their lead over the second-place Giants still isn’t widening the way you’d expect. As commenters in the thread pointed out, the Tigers have a commanding record against the Giants head-to-head this season, but they keep dropping games against other opponents — the Carp in particular — which is dragging down their overall results. Opinions were split on manager Kyuji Fujikawa’s approach, with a persistent theory that he’s prioritizing Giants matchups above everything else and treating other series as expendable. It’s also worth noting the Tigers have more games left to play than the Giants, so the raw game-back number alone doesn’t fully capture how tight things really are. And since Fujikawa’s return as manager next season is already locked in regardless of how this year finishes, that’s useful context for reading the thread’s debate over his in-game decisions.

  • New Gundam Game Sparks Backlash Over Gap Between Trailer and Demo Footage — 5ch: ‘Doesn’t Feel Like Gundam At All’

When Bandai Namco released demo footage of its new Gundam action game, reactions poured in on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board. The setting is described as taking place 100 years after the events involving the “Alex Zero” unit from the Gundam RG series, with the backstory also detailed on the official site. But a wave of doubts followed over the gap between the previously released trailer and the actual gameplay footage, as well as a combat style centered on melee attacks with almost no beam weapons or other ranged options. Some speculated the game was greenlit in response to the success of FromSoftware’s “Armored Core VI,” with the gap between expectations and the actual content becoming the main point of debate.

When FromSoftware released Armored Core VI, various companies started making model kits for it and they sold decently well, so some higher-up probably ordered 'make an AC6-style game using the Gundam IP,' and this is the result

It's baffling how in the 'Chōkyū Haō Den'eidan' attack, the Gundam's face turns into Domon's or Tōhō Fuhai's face

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

This demo footage is presented on the official site as a work set 100 years after the RG series unit setting “Alex Zero,” so it isn’t a one-off rumor. Where opinions in the thread diverged was over how to assess a combat design centered on melee attacks — several commenters speculated it was a project greenlit in response to the success of FromSoftware’s “Armored Core VI,” though this remains speculation and hasn’t been officially confirmed. One easy point to misunderstand is that a gap between trailer footage and in-engine gameplay isn’t unique to this title — it’s a common phenomenon caused by differences between video production and real-time game engine rendering. The near-absence of beam weapons could also reflect a deliberate design choice to emphasize close-range mobile suit combat rather than simple corner-cutting, something that can’t be determined from public information alone.

  • Japanese-Style RPG ‘ONI’ Series Confirmed for Switch Port — 5ch Diagnoses Itself With ‘Can’t-Ditch-the-Starting-Weapon Syndrome’

Famitsu reports that all seven titles in the Japanese-style occult RPG series ONI (鬼忍降魔録 ONI), which spanned the Game Boy and Super Famicom, have been confirmed for a full-lineup port to the Nintendo Switch. The series is also known for its distinctive system in which a total party wipe erases your save data, and longtime fans flooded in with nostalgic reactions. On 5ch’s console gaming board, opinions varied widely on how to read the announcement — from confusion over whether the games will be sold individually or as an all-in-one package, to disagreement over whether the publisher is Konami or Mebius.

The Japanese-style RPG series running from Oni Ninja Demon-Sealing Chronicle: ONI to ONI: Bakumatsu Descent Chronicle is coming back on Switch.

All seven titles originally released on Game Boy and Super Famicom are confirmed for a full-lineup port

Background and Talking Points on This Story

The ONI series (鬼忍降魔録 ONI) is a Japanese-style RPG franchise that ran on the Game Boy and Super Famicom in the 1990s, and it made waves at the time for quirks like a system that wipes your save data on a total party wipe. Worth noting: details floated in the thread — a “21,978 yen special edition,” games “sold separately,” “individual GB and SFC set packages” — aren’t from Famitsu’s official announcement itself, but from what posters call “early-leak info,” i.e. unofficial information obtained ahead of release. The disagreement over whether the publisher is Konami or Mebius likely stems both from Konami’s past involvement with the series and from the fact that the distribution setup hasn’t been officially confirmed. The port itself is confirmed fact, but pricing and product lineup details will have to wait for an official announcement.

  • Kura Sushi to Refund Missed Collab Discount — 5ch Reacts: ‘No Receipt, But My Stomach Remembers’

Kura Sushi has announced it will refund customers who missed out on the 10% discount that was supposed to apply during its collaboration with the character franchise Chiikawa, after the discount failed to be applied at some locations. On 5ch, users shared information suggesting the missed discounts were concentrated among customers who paid with something other than cash, sparking discussion over how the chain would handle cases where customers can no longer produce a receipt. The thread also split over whether refunds should even extend to customers who visited purely for the “Bikkura Pon” prize gacha included with sushi orders — with one lawyer’s view that “the contract is fulfilled once the ordered sushi is served” clashing against the counterargument that “the prizes have real value now that they’re priced on flea-market resale apps.”

    Re: #104
Their stance seems to be that it's the staff's fault for not handling it properly

Background and Key Points of Debate

“Bikkura Pon” is a prize lottery available at chains like Sushiro and Kura Sushi, where customers get a chance to win prizes tied to their sushi orders — this time themed around the Chiikawa collaboration. The thread split mainly over two points. First was the question of who exactly was affected by the missed discount: posters shared that cash-paying customers had the 10% discount applied normally in-store, while only customers who paid via e-money or mobile payment missed out due to a gap in the POS system settings. The second point was the legal basis for refunds, with lawyers split between the view that “the contract is fulfilled once the ordered sushi is served, so there’s no obligation to refund the prize” and the counter-view that “the prize’s value can’t be dismissed now that it’s openly priced on flea-market resale apps” — neither side was settled within the thread. Though not mentioned in the original article, campaigns like this often run into ambiguity under Japan’s Premiums and Representations Act over where a “freebie” ends and a “product” begins, which is part of why companies tend to end up reacting after the fact rather than getting ahead of it.

Background and Key Points of This Story

It’s worth noting that this report doesn’t come from an official statement by Mimata or his agency, but secondhand, via an unnamed comedian speaking to Shukan Josei. TAP, the agency Mimata belonged to, is known for having fellow comedian Tsumami Edamame as its president, and comments in the thread frequently touched on that relationship. Mimata has long been a subject of debt-related stories, and this reported departure and shift into real estate has emerged less through his own active account and more through a buildup of secondhand testimony following the report. The agency itself has offered only a “no comment,” so the parts of the story that can be treated as confirmed fact — such as the exact debt amount or repayment status — remain limited. While the thread was mostly filled with career retrospectives built around his long-established public image, it also included posts based on hearsay about his private life, so this article focuses primarily on the portions with clear sourcing.

  • DiverDiva’s First New Song in 4 Years Debuts at #11 on Oricon — 5ch Erupts Into Unit-vs-Unit Fan Wars

DiverDiva, a unit from Love Live! Superstar!!, released its first new song in four years — but the news that it only reached #11 on the Oricon chart became a hot topic on 5ch. Thread posters brought up other units’ numbers for comparison, like “A・ZU・NA at #26 with 2,224 listeners” and “MoaJan at #35 with 1,553 listeners,” and the discussion spiraled from debating the quality of the songs (aside from Eternal Light) and Spotify listener trends into a full-blown popularity feud between fans of other Love Live projects like Nijigasaki, Hasunosora (SS), and Liella!.

Good news, Pika-Liella (mocking nickname for Liella!) — on Amazon Music you're only down to half.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

DiverDiva is an in-story unit from Love Live! Superstar!!, and this was its first new song in four years at a time when Superstar!! itself has often been criticized for its slowing release pace. The Love Live! franchise runs multiple projects in parallel — Nijigasaki, Hasunosora (SS), Liella!, and others — and on 5ch it’s become routine for fans to pit units and shows against each other using weekly Spotify listener counts and YouTube view numbers. That said, weekly listener counts tend to spike temporarily right after a new release drops, so reading a few days of fluctuation as a definitive trend can be misleading. Likewise, an Oricon rank of #11 is only meaningful relative to the size and makeup of the chart being tallied, so it’s worth being cautious about treating it as hard proof of an absolute “flop.” The thread mixes genuine number-crunching with fans simply trading insults, so readers need to judge for themselves which comments actually reflect reality.

  • Retail Investors’ Yen-Selling Hits ¥4.4 Trillion in July as Rising Yen Sparks Forced-Liquidation Fears

As the yen climbs to its highest level in six months, Japanese retail investors have been piling into short-yen positions through FX (margin foreign exchange trading). According to data from the Financial Futures Association of Japan and the Tokyo Financial Exchange, retail investors’ net short-yen position recently stood at ¥3.61 trillion, after hitting ¥4.41 trillion in July — the highest level since 2015. If the yen keeps strengthening against expectations, insufficient margin could trigger forced liquidations and deepen losses. In a 5ch thread, users debated the difference between this kind of trading and NISA tax-free investing, along with predictions for where the dollar-yen rate is headed next.

Betting Against the Trend: Retail Investors Boost Yen-Selling as Currency Hits Six-Month High

(Bloomberg): Japanese retail investors are taking a contrarian stance against the yen’s rapid rise. As the currency strengthens against the dollar to its highest level in six months, they’ve been increasing their short-yen positions.

According to a Bloomberg analysis of Financial Futures Association of Japan and Tokyo Financial Exchange margin FX (foreign exchange margin trading) data, retail investors’ net short-yen position rose last week to an estimated ¥3.61 trillion, up from August. Bearish yen bets had reached ¥4.41 trillion in July, the highest level since 2015.

If the yen keeps strengthening, you'll probably take a temporary hit whether you're in an all-country index fund or Japanese stocks — but NISA investing is meant to be held for like 20 years anyway.
It's built on the premise that the world keeps inflating and stock prices eventually hit new highs.
If you're going to panic-sell over this, you shouldn't have started in the first place.
Of course, holding for 20 years doesn't guarantee you won't lose money either.

    Number of individual brokerage accounts:
    56.25 million, FYI.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

In Japan, retail margin FX trading is capped at a maximum leverage of 25x. If the market moves against a trader’s position and unrealized losses exceed their margin, brokers automatically close out the position — a “forced liquidation.” The confusion with NISA seen in the thread comes down to this difference in mechanics: NISA is a tax-free investment scheme for mutual funds and stocks, not margin trading, so the concept of forced liquidation doesn’t even apply to it. On where the yen is headed, some point to the US Treasury Secretary’s remarks and dollar-yen trends across past administrations to argue for a long-term direction, while others weave in political commentary — leaving no real consensus. How much retail FX positioning actually moves the broader market isn’t made clear in the original article either, so it’s worth not getting overly rattled by the size of the numbers alone.

  • VTuber Marriage and Childbirth Announcements Spark Controversy — 5ch: ‘Married Life and Childbirth Are Too Gross to Watch’

As more female VTubers announce relationships, marriages, and childbirths, a 5ch thread blew up over a coined term posted on note.com: the “stuffed-animal vagina phenomenon.” The phrase riffs on “stuffed-animal penis,” a jab at male idols whose real, physical existence undercuts their idealized image, and here describes the mixed feelings fans get when a VTuber who built her popularity by playing single later reveals a relationship or childbirth. The thread pitted defenders — who argued that hiding it wasn’t the real problem — against harsher critics who called the relationship itself a betrayal, spiraling into a debate over what fans actually want from VTubers.

Lately we’re seeing more and more female VTubers announce their marriages and childbirths, showered with congratulations. But hold on a second — is that really something we can just wave off as “wonderful news”?

Something about that doesn’t sit right.

Let me be clear: VTubers who are upfront with their listeners day-to-day about having a boyfriend, dating, or getting married are the exception. But they’re a small minority. Most of them know full well there’s no upside to disclosing that stuff, so they sell us the fantasy of “I don’t have a boyfriend” and “you, the listener, come first” — and exploit us for it.

That's just coincidence — there's plenty of homegrown insults already, like "Mii-chan" (a mocking nickname for female fans), "musan" ("nonproductive," a jab at childless women), "usomatsu" ("obviously made-up story"), and "karikari" ("uptight/prickly type").

And "musan" originally came from feminist circles anyway.

Nothing beats how catchy "nui-peni" (short for "stuffed-animal penis") sounds.

"Nui-vagi" has a pretty nice ring to it too.

So the rule is: hide it until you get caught, and once you're caught, retire (or "reincarnate" as a new persona)?

Actually, yeah — pretty much everyone who got exposed by accident, like a settings slip-up, instead of coming clean themselves, has ended up retiring.

    Yeah, this is exactly it.

    GRAAAAAGH! 💢

    Background and Key Points

The original term, “stuffed-animal penis,” mocks male idols or characters who perform behind a hidden face while actually being flesh-and-blood humans; applying that idea to female VTubers gave rise to the “stuffed-animal vagina phenomenon.” The VTuber industry partly sells a pseudo-romantic relationship built on the premise of “no boyfriend” and “you, the listener, come first,” and that business model frequently collides with performers’ personal privacy. Commenters pointed to cases like Hayase Sou, who faced no backlash even after going public with a relationship, suggesting the real backlash isn’t against dating itself but against feeling like it was concealed. Meanwhile, much of the thread drifted into personal attacks tied to posters’ genders, which have been left out of this writeup. This kind of friction between fans and VTubers isn’t unique to this case — it reflects a structural tension found throughout idol culture more broadly.
