  • Ado Sparks Controversy by Belting Out ‘Odoru Pompokorin’ as Headliner at K-POP Festival

Popular singer Ado headlined a joint festival featuring a lineup of K-POP artists and performed ‘Odoru Pompokorin,’ sparking discussion on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board. Thread posts explained that the post-headliner “finale” segment — a photo-and-greeting session that’s usually a fixture of these festivals — was reportedly scrapped at Ado’s request, leaving the K-POP fans who’d stuck around specifically for that finale frustrated. Commenters were split on whether the blame for the song choice and set structure fell on Ado herself or on the event organizers, and many also brought up the fact that tickets cost 60,000 yen.

They packed this whole lineup into Belluna Dome, and the headliner Ado just sang ‘Odoru Pompokorin’ and walked off… hilarious (not funny at all)

Wasn't it the K-POP side that asked her to headline in the first place, banking on Ado's drawing power?

I mean, nobody's realistically showing up just to hear 'Odoru Pompokorin'
    29AnonymousSep 24, 2026 20:03
    Apparently here's the actual timeline:

Ado shows up at a K-POP festival for some reason ← guest spots happen occasionally, so fine
    Ado is the headliner
Ado gets the longest stage time of anyone
The already-shabby "cage" stage setup (Ado famously performs hidden inside a box/cage to conceal her identity) ends up even smaller and shabbier than usual
For the headline slot, she picks 'Odoru Pompokorin'
The photo session ("finale") that normally follows the headliner every year gets cut at Ado's request. (Apparently about half the K-POP crowd comes just for that)
The K-POP fans who gritted their teeth and stayed to the end for that finale are furious

Why bring the introverts' princess to an extroverts' event, only to have her sing an anime song for the grandpa-and-grandma generation on top of it…

Background and Key Points of This Story

‘Odoru Pompokorin’ is a beloved staple song spanning generations, best known as performed by B.B. Queens for the opening of the anime ‘Chibi Maruko-chan,’ which began airing in 1990. In this case, the discussion centered less on the song choice itself and more on the fact that the “finale” segment — the photo-and-greeting session customarily held after the headliner at joint K-POP shows — was reportedly cancelled at Ado’s request, which posters cited as the main source of frustration for fans who stayed until the end. One post in the thread claimed ‘Odoru Pompokorin’ was originally a cover of a Korean pop song, but no source was given, so this should not be taken as confirmed fact. The thread also never settled whether the decision over the performance and set structure lay with Ado herself or with the festival’s organizers, ending with opinions still divided over where the responsibility lies.

  • Record-Breaking Rain Floods Chiba, Uchibo Line Suspended for 3 Months

Following record-breaking heavy rain in Chiba Prefecture, a thread went up on 5channel’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board with photos of the damage from the scene. Chiba City reportedly saw 1,170mm of rainfall over just the past two months, already surpassing its total rainfall for all of 2025. JR’s Uchibo Line has been suspended for three months due to landslides and other damage, sparking concern over the impact on students’ commutes. When posters asked why Chiba alone was hit so hard, some explained it came down to drainage issues involving Lake Inba and the Tone River system — a background that can’t be chalked up to rainfall totals alone.

Because Ibaraki beefed up its flood defenses after the 2019 floods,

    Re: #99
    WHAAAAAAAAAT lmaooooooooooo

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Lake Inba is part of the Tone River watershed, and drainage from the surrounding area ultimately flows into the Tone River. Posters in the thread noted that flood control work on the Ibaraki side, ramped up after Typhoon Hagibis in 2019 (the “Reiwa 1 East Japan Typhoon”), has made the Tone River’s main stream more prone to running high — which in turn has made it harder for Lake Inba to drain. This is difficult to verify, but the theory that upstream countermeasures may be worsening downstream damage in Chiba points to a structural factor that can’t simply be explained away as “there was just more rain this year.” The thread also saw some disagreement over how officials and politicians have responded, but claims that couldn’t be verified are not covered in this article.

  • Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46 Announce Joint ‘Sakamichi’ Selection Unit — Inoue Nagi Named Center

A “Sakamichi Joint Selection” unit gathering selected members from all three groups — Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46 — has been announced, with Inoue Nagi chosen as center. On 5ch reaction threads, some users pointed to a past joint project from the Keyakizaka46 era that put Hirate Yurina at center and flopped, while others questioned the criteria used to pick members. Some speculated the move is aimed at securing a slot for the year-end Kohaku Uta Gassen singing contest, and opinions were split over the overall brand strength of the Sakamichi franchise and how far this kind of cross-group project can reach beyond its core fanbase.

    2AnonymousSep 24, 2026 21:00

    22AnonymousSep 24, 2026 22:01

    76AnonymousSep 24, 2026 22:57
Re: #73 Nogizaka's slot is already locked in, so the song barely matters. Sales alone really are huge for them, even if the songs and skills are weak.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The “Sakamichi Series” is the collective name for three groups — Nogizaka46, Keyakizaka46 (now Sakurazaka46), and Hinatazaka46 — which have historically been produced by the same team, and a joint project centered on Hirate Yurina was also organized back in the Keyakizaka46 era. Regarding the choice of Inoue Nagi as center this time, the thread saw views suggesting it was less about ability and more a “predictable lineup of former centers,” along with speculation that the real aim is securing a slot at the Kohaku Uta Gassen year-end singing contest. It’s worth noting, as a matter of fact, that NHK doesn’t announce Kohaku lineups until December each year, so nothing is confirmed at this point. There was also an exchange over “why Ichinose was picked,” reflecting a long-running point of contention among Sakamichi group fans about selection criteria — though such threads also tend to mix in baseless speculation. Overall, skepticism stood out about how far a cross-group project like this can reach beyond the existing fanbase, with the thread split between voices pointing to a decline in the Sakamichi franchise’s overall pull and those simply intrigued by it as a new attempt.

  • Over 70% of Twenty-Somethings Who Drink Do It Alone at Home — 5ch: ‘Who Needs Izakayas Anyway?’

Takara Holdings, the parent company of Takara Shuzo, released a survey on the drinking habits of twenty-somethings who drink at least once a week. The most common drinking scenario was “alone at home,” at 77.7%, with over 60% citing “wanting to go at my own pace” as the reason. On 5ch, some pointed to the economic impact, saying things like “they clearly don’t realize they’re killing off izakayas,” while others cited reasons behind the preference for solo drinking, such as “in rural areas it’s a car-dependent society, so drinking at home is the only option” and “people just stopped pressuring others to drink” — opinions were split.

Takara Holdings, which owns Takara Shuzo, released the results of a survey on drinking habits targeting twenty-somethings who drink alcohol at least once a week. Even as young people are said to be drinking less overall, those in their 20s who do have a drinking habit tend to drink frequently, and a preference for drinking “alone” at home has emerged.

As for drinking frequency, 46.5% of respondents said they drink “four or more days a week,” including those who drink “almost every day,” while 27.6% said “two to three days a week.”

For drinking scenarios (multiple answers allowed), “alone at home” was the most common at 77.7%. Among reasons for drinking alone at home (multiple answers allowed), “wanting to spend the time at my own pace” led at 60.9%, followed by “wanting to enjoy time alone” at 46.8%, and “it’s more relaxing alone” at 38.4%.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Takara Holdings, the major liquor maker behind the survey, has been tracking a broader narrative that young people are drinking less overall — yet the data hints at a split: those twenty-somethings who do have a drinking habit actually drink quite frequently. It’s easy to overlook that the survey covered only “20-somethings who drink at least once a week,” not the full generation. The thread’s disagreement centered on how to interpret the preference for drinking at home. Some pointed to a simple lack of financial means, while others argued it’s really about growing awareness of “aruhara” (alcohol harassment — the pressure to force others to drink), which has made people less inclined to drink out under social pressure. Commenters from rural areas also noted that in car-dependent regions, going out to drink at all is difficult, suggesting several overlapping factors beyond a simple “young people are drinking less” narrative.

  • Kanata Kato Beats SILENT HILL f on PS5, Then Switches to Streaming Rhythm Heaven — 5ch: “That Was Clearly Staged”

Model and actress Kanata Kato made headlines for buying a PS5 specifically to play “SILENT HILL f,” but now 5ch’s Hardware & Industry board (“Geha”) is buzzing about the fact that she’s started streaming Nintendo Switch’s “Rhythm Heaven” series instead. According to the thread, after clearing SILENT HILL f once, she couldn’t find another PS5 title she wanted to play, so she ended up going through a second playthrough. That’s sparked a split in opinion: some say “the PS5 purchase must have been a staged ad,” while others argue “SILENT HILL f is a brutally hard game built around replaying it, so of course she moved on.”

She then started streaming Nintendo’s rhythm-game series “Rhythm Heaven,” and the switch to a Switch title became the talk of the thread. Opinions split over whether the PS5 purchase itself was a staged promotional stunt, or whether the difficult, replay-heavy game simply wasn’t suited to a casual player. Some posts use the term “goki” — derogatory 5ch slang for PlayStation fans — but that’s standard board-culture trash talk rather than commentary on her looks or character. SILENT HILL f is known even among recent horror titles for its heavy emphasis on multiple playthroughs, so the argument that it’s simply too demanding for a light gamer carries some weight.

  • Japan 3-1 Uruguay: 5ch Reacts to Sergio Echigo’s Take on Matsuki — ‘Messi Doesn’t Do Anything Except Score Either’

The first friendly since the 2026 World Cup saw Japan face Uruguay, with Japan coming from behind to win 3-1 on two goals scored in second-half stoppage time. Nikkan Sports columnist Sergio Echigo praised the win while noting that “in terms of content, it was completely Uruguay’s pace,” also pointing out that, as a friendly, eight substitutions were allowed. On 5ch, opinions split over how to rate Kuryu Matsuki, who scored the winning goal — some questioned whether he contributed anything besides the goal, while others argued that scoring is the most important job there is. Plenty of comments also voiced distrust of Echigo’s commentary itself.

    <International Friendly: Japan 3-1 Uruguay> ◇September 24 ◇Q&A Stadium Miyagi

In their first match since the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North/Central America, Japan (FIFA ranking 17th) beat Uruguay (ranked 20th) in style. Nikkan Sports columnist Sergio Echigo (81) praised the win as a fresh restart, while also noting that, as a friendly, eight substitutions were permitted.

In sumo terms, Japan pushed Uruguay out right at the edge of the ring. Content-wise, it was completely Uruguay’s pace — they created decisive chances over and over, and there were plenty of close calls. Still, those two goals in second-half stoppage time deserve praise, and as a fresh restart, it was a good win.

What do you make of an old man who only ever criticizes Japan, win or lose?

    Background and Talking Points

Sergio Echigo is a longtime Nikkan Sports columnist known for harsh commentary on the Japan national team, a style that reliably sparks mixed reactions. This match was the first friendly since the 2026 World Cup; unlike official internationals, friendlies carry a special rule allowing up to eight substitutions, which tends to produce experimental lineups for trying out younger players. On the thread, takes on Matsuki split into two camps — “being involved in the goal is enough” versus “defense and pressing are part of the job too” — with some defending him by invoking Messi and Riquelme as players whose other contributions can go unnoticed as long as they’re involved in scoring. What’s harder to see from the individual replies alone, though, is that many commenters were less focused on Matsuki himself than on questioning Echigo’s own credibility as a commentator — reflecting a chronic distrust of his commentary style that runs through the thread.

※This article excerpts and summarizes the 5ch (Geisoku Sokuho+) thread “[Soccer] Sergio Echigo: Kuryu Matsuki? Didn’t he do nothing except in the goal scene?.”

  • Rosy Chronicle’s Sluggish Turnout Sparks 5ch Debate — Could Budokan Be Next?

A casual chat thread on 5ch turned into a full-blown debate over turnout for the Hello! Project group Rosy Chronicle. It started with the claim that “the members don’t sell because they’re short,” but as the discussion went on, it shifted to more concrete territory — the scale of their live house tour, whether a solo Budokan show is realistic, and the fading engagement of “DD” (fans who split their support across multiple groups). Posters also worried that forming a new group would drain resources from existing ones, and no consensus was reached.

    Yeah, fans have gotten colder
You can tell just from watching the calls at Hello! Con

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Rosy Chronicle is a relatively new Hello! Project group, and the thread discussed audience turnout and the feasibility of a Budokan concert using concrete figures. “DD” is Hello! Project slang for fans who support multiple groups at once rather than committing to just one, and several posters noted that this kind of cross-group support has noticeably weakened lately. On the other hand, the claim that “Morning Musume and Cute sold well as groups made of ‘leftover’ members, so Rosy was formed from leftovers too” reflects one poster’s personal opinion about the group’s origins, not an officially confirmed fact — worth noting. Opinions on a Budokan show were split as well, with some saying “pulling it off even once would be a solid achievement for an idol” and others saying “turnout-wise, it’s a stretch,” and the thread reached no clear conclusion.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Is Rosy Chronicle not selling because the members are short?“

  • Why Did Demon Slayer Become Such a Massive Hit? 5ch Calls It ‘The Shohei Ohtani of Manga’

Why did “Demon Slayer” become a phenomenon that swept up even non-otaku audiences? That question sparked debate on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board. The thread kicked off with personal stories of fathers who never watch anime — and even in-laws — watching every single episode and crying. Posters brought up “Housekeeper Mita” (a drama that scored huge ratings right after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake) to argue that in times of crisis, people crave classic, straightforward storytelling. Anime fans, meanwhile, offered a harsher take, calling the characters and setting “generic,” which clashed with defenders who argued that sticking to a tried-and-true formula was exactly the show’s strength. The gender split among viewers, and the fact that the sequel film raked in roughly 40 billion yen at the box office, also came up, with opinions remaining divided by the end.

    That's half right, half wrong.
First off, Demon Slayer's big hit happened in 2019, which is before the COVID era even started.
It's true that family love is one factor behind why it's loved by such a wide range of people, but it's not the only one.
The foundation the story of Demon Slayer draws on is the Bible.
That's why it easily transcends age, gender, and even national borders to become something universally loved.

    Re: #93
Far from "transforming," it was already popular as both a manga and an anime.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Demon Slayer is a manga by Koyoharu Gotouge that has run in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2016, and its popularity took off with the ufotable-produced anime that aired in 2019. The 2020 theatrical film “Mugen Train Arc” grossed 40.4 billion yen, surpassing “Spirited Away” to become the highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history at the time. This explosive popularity actually began in late 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic had fully taken hold, which is why posters in the thread pushed back against the simple explanation that it was “because of the pandemic.” The 2025 film “Infinity Castle Arc” also reached roughly 40 billion yen in box office revenue within a short period, suggesting this was no fleeting boom. As for the gender breakdown of viewers, figures were cited in the thread, but since they come from 5ch without a clearly stated source, they shouldn’t be treated as official statistics.

  • Forestry: ‘You’ll earn good money. You’ll leave on time. Coworkers are easygoing.’ — Here’s why nobody actually picks it

In a 5ch thread, users discussed why forestry work — despite its pitch of “good pay, leaving on time, and easy relationships” — is actually avoided in practice. The posts repeatedly returned to the high number of fatal accidents, citing specific cases like workers being caught by surprise during tree-felling, chain-reaction falling trees, and people getting run over by reversing trucks. Some claimed annual salaries in the range of 2.8 to 5 million-plus yen, and opinions split over whether that’s worth the danger. Commenters also pointed out that hiring is mostly capped at age 40 due to a shortage of young workers, highlighting a deeper structural problem in the industry.

The fuel revolution really changed everything
Back when wood was the main fuel, even cutting thin trees turned a profit

Background and key points of this discussion

The dangers of forestry work discussed in this thread are deeply tied to Japan’s unique terrain, where most of the country consists of steep slopes. As some posters noted, forestry in Europe and Oceania mainly involves mechanized logging on flat land, where slope-related risks like those in Japan are comparatively lower. As a safety measure, wearing protective gear while operating a chainsaw has been made mandatory, yet the discussion centered on the fact that serious injuries and fatal accidents still haven’t been eliminated. Annual income also varies by several million yen depending on whether pay is piece-rate or a fixed salary, revealing that it’s not simply accurate to call the job “lucrative.” It’s worth noting that the testimonies in the thread are individual anecdotes, not official statistics representing the industry’s overall fatality rate or average income.

A club that finished 2nd last season, "mid-table"? Don't make me laugh.

    Re: #58
Eh, I think the Premier League would be really tough for him.
He's clearly got talent, but I can't picture him banging in goals week after week there.
Fulham's Gonçalo might be a similar comparison — maybe he could do about that much.

I think that's about what an Eredivisie top-scorer title is worth these days. It's not the Ronaldo/Romário era anymore.
    85AnonymousSep 24, 2026 21:11
Seeing this makes me think we didn't even need to change coaches.
Moriyasu's win rate really is high.

    Re: #85
    That's not it.
He just leaves it up to the players, so when the team's on the back foot, he's got no cards to play.

    It's all thanks to Itō.

He only wins the matches that don't matter.
Same back at his Hiroshima days too — lame losses in cup competitions and tournaments all the time.

    Re: #40
The data actually shows Ao Tanaka's win rate as a starter is overwhelmingly high, and it drops off a cliff when he's not in the lineup.

Even at Leeds, he's unbeaten in home starts and wins almost every time — a historic record.
Even counting away games, his win rate leads the team.

    Re: #101
Lol, Ao Tanaka's Leeds are up there with the Big 6.
    Ao's a beast 😳

Apparently if you tally up points from December 2025 to now, Leeds are 5th in the Premier League.

That span includes the stretch since Ao Tanaka scored against Chelsea and Liverpool,
when he was starting every game and winning constantly,
so it looks like he's racked up a big chunk of those points.

Barely won thanks to home advantage.
If someone like Klopp were coaching, it'd have been decided in the first half.

TVAL ratings tend to run low.
Video Research is probably more like 13-15%.

We already know by now that winning a friendly doesn't prove anything about real strength.
We learned that from the last World Cup.

    Best lineup
    Ueda
    Mitoma Matsuki
    Nakamura Itō
    Sano Sano
    Itō Takai Suzuki
    Zion

    This work?

Think of Kamada as the current heart of the national team.
Right now, Japan is Kamada's team.

    Also, put Tomiyasu in.

    Background and Talking Points

This match was the opening game of the so-called “Third Moriyasu Japan” era since coach Hajime Moriyasu’s contract renewal, and as a friendly it has no direct bearing on points in official competitions like World Cup qualifying. The main split in the thread was over how much weight to give a friendly win: some took the victory at face value, while others argued it means little since the opponents weren’t playing at full intensity. Some posts pointed to Ao Tanaka’s form at Leeds as supporting evidence, but the league-standing calculations cited are posters’ own personal estimates, not official data, and should be read with that caveat. Opinions on the strength of Ayase Ueda’s new French club and on the TV ratings figures also varied by source from poster to poster, so no firm conclusion emerged.
