  • Ado Sparks Controversy by Belting Out ‘Odoru Pompokorin’ as Headliner at K-POP Festival

Popular singer Ado headlined a joint festival featuring a lineup of K-POP artists and performed ‘Odoru Pompokorin,’ sparking discussion on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board. Thread posts explained that the post-headliner “finale” segment — a photo-and-greeting session that’s usually a fixture of these festivals — was reportedly scrapped at Ado’s request, leaving the K-POP fans who’d stuck around specifically for that finale frustrated. Commenters were split on whether the blame for the song choice and set structure fell on Ado herself or on the event organizers, and many also brought up the fact that tickets cost 60,000 yen.

They packed this whole lineup into Belluna Dome, and the headliner Ado just sang ‘Odoru Pompokorin’ and walked off… hilarious (not funny at all)

    29AnonymousSep 24, 2026 20:03
    Apparently here's the actual timeline:

Ado shows up at a K-POP festival for some reason ← guest spots happen occasionally, so fine
    Ado is the headliner
Ado gets the longest stage time of anyone
The already-shabby "cage" stage setup (Ado famously performs hidden inside a box/cage to conceal her identity) ends up even smaller and shabbier than usual
For the headline slot, she picks 'Odoru Pompokorin'
The photo session ("finale") that normally follows the headliner every year gets cut at Ado's request. (Apparently about half the K-POP crowd comes just for that)
The K-POP fans who gritted their teeth and stayed to the end for that finale are furious

Why bring the introverts' princess to an extroverts' event, only to have her sing an anime song for the grandpa-and-grandma generation on top of it…

Background and Key Points of This Story

‘Odoru Pompokorin’ is a beloved staple song spanning generations, best known as performed by B.B. Queens for the opening of the anime ‘Chibi Maruko-chan,’ which began airing in 1990. In this case, the discussion centered less on the song choice itself and more on the fact that the “finale” segment — the photo-and-greeting session customarily held after the headliner at joint K-POP shows — was reportedly cancelled at Ado’s request, which posters cited as the main source of frustration for fans who stayed until the end. One post in the thread claimed ‘Odoru Pompokorin’ was originally a cover of a Korean pop song, but no source was given, so this should not be taken as confirmed fact. The thread also never settled whether the decision over the performance and set structure lay with Ado herself or with the festival’s organizers, ending with opinions still divided over where the responsibility lies.

  • Record-Breaking Rain Floods Chiba, Uchibo Line Suspended for 3 Months

Following record-breaking heavy rain in Chiba Prefecture, a thread went up on 5channel’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board with photos of the damage from the scene. Chiba City reportedly saw 1,170mm of rainfall over just the past two months, already surpassing its total rainfall for all of 2025. JR’s Uchibo Line has been suspended for three months due to landslides and other damage, sparking concern over the impact on students’ commutes. When posters asked why Chiba alone was hit so hard, some explained it came down to drainage issues involving Lake Inba and the Tone River system — a background that can’t be chalked up to rainfall totals alone.

    Re: #99
    WHAAAAAAAAAT lmaooooooooooo

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Lake Inba is part of the Tone River watershed, and drainage from the surrounding area ultimately flows into the Tone River. Posters in the thread noted that flood control work on the Ibaraki side, ramped up after Typhoon Hagibis in 2019 (the “Reiwa 1 East Japan Typhoon”), has made the Tone River’s main stream more prone to running high — which in turn has made it harder for Lake Inba to drain. This is difficult to verify, but the theory that upstream countermeasures may be worsening downstream damage in Chiba points to a structural factor that can’t simply be explained away as “there was just more rain this year.” The thread also saw some disagreement over how officials and politicians have responded, but claims that couldn’t be verified are not covered in this article.

  • Why Did Demon Slayer Become Such a Massive Hit? 5ch Calls It ‘The Shohei Ohtani of Manga’

Why did “Demon Slayer” become a phenomenon that swept up even non-otaku audiences? That question sparked debate on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board. The thread kicked off with personal stories of fathers who never watch anime — and even in-laws — watching every single episode and crying. Posters brought up “Housekeeper Mita” (a drama that scored huge ratings right after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake) to argue that in times of crisis, people crave classic, straightforward storytelling. Anime fans, meanwhile, offered a harsher take, calling the characters and setting “generic,” which clashed with defenders who argued that sticking to a tried-and-true formula was exactly the show’s strength. The gender split among viewers, and the fact that the sequel film raked in roughly 40 billion yen at the box office, also came up, with opinions remaining divided by the end.

First off, Demon Slayer's big hit happened in 2019, which is before the COVID era even started.
It's true that family love is one factor behind why it's loved by such a wide range of people, but it's not the only one.
The foundation the story of Demon Slayer draws on is the Bible.

    97AnonymousSep 24, 2026 23:12
    Re: #93
Far from "transforming," it was already popular as both a manga and an anime.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Demon Slayer is a manga by Koyoharu Gotouge that has run in Weekly Shonen Jump since 2016, and its popularity took off with the ufotable-produced anime that aired in 2019. The 2020 theatrical film “Mugen Train Arc” grossed 40.4 billion yen, surpassing “Spirited Away” to become the highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history at the time. This explosive popularity actually began in late 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic had fully taken hold, which is why posters in the thread pushed back against the simple explanation that it was “because of the pandemic.” The 2025 film “Infinity Castle Arc” also reached roughly 40 billion yen in box office revenue within a short period, suggesting this was no fleeting boom. As for the gender breakdown of viewers, figures were cited in the thread, but since they come from 5ch without a clearly stated source, they shouldn’t be treated as official statistics.

  • Forestry: ‘You’ll earn good money. You’ll leave on time. Coworkers are easygoing.’ — Here’s why nobody actually picks it

In a 5ch thread, users discussed why forestry work — despite its pitch of “good pay, leaving on time, and easy relationships” — is actually avoided in practice. The posts repeatedly returned to the high number of fatal accidents, citing specific cases like workers being caught by surprise during tree-felling, chain-reaction falling trees, and people getting run over by reversing trucks. Some claimed annual salaries in the range of 2.8 to 5 million-plus yen, and opinions split over whether that’s worth the danger. Commenters also pointed out that hiring is mostly capped at age 40 due to a shortage of young workers, highlighting a deeper structural problem in the industry.

The fuel revolution really changed everything
Back when wood was the main fuel, even cutting thin trees turned a profit

Background and key points of this discussion

The dangers of forestry work discussed in this thread are deeply tied to Japan’s unique terrain, where most of the country consists of steep slopes. As some posters noted, forestry in Europe and Oceania mainly involves mechanized logging on flat land, where slope-related risks like those in Japan are comparatively lower. As a safety measure, wearing protective gear while operating a chainsaw has been made mandatory, yet the discussion centered on the fact that serious injuries and fatal accidents still haven’t been eliminated. Annual income also varies by several million yen depending on whether pay is piece-rate or a fixed salary, revealing that it’s not simply accurate to call the job “lucrative.” It’s worth noting that the testimonies in the thread are individual anecdotes, not official statistics representing the industry’s overall fatality rate or average income.

  • Yuzusoft’s “Senren*Banka” Gets Anime Adaptation — 5ch Asks: “Will They Cut the Naughty Bits for TV?”

On the night of the 24th, multiple topics heated up at once in a 5ch live-discussion thread. At the center of it was the anime adaptation of “Senren*Banka,” a hit title from game brand Yuzusoft, announced that same day — since the original is an adult-oriented work, posters immediately worried about censorship, asking “Will they cut the naughty bits for the broadcast?” Alongside that, the thread was a grab bag of unconfirmed rumors about the mobile game “Project Sekai” supposedly wrapping up, a dog-breed guessing game, and photos of recent purchases.

    Background and Key Points

Yuzusoft is an adult PC game brand founded in 2002, and “Senren*Banka” is a romance adventure title released in 2016. According to posts in the thread, today’s anime adaptation announcement was made during the brand’s music event “Yuzusoft SONGFES2026.” Since the original work contains adult content, TV broadcasts customarily air an all-ages version with the sexual content cut, and the thread’s question — “Will they cut the naughty bits for the broadcast?” — appears to reflect this common practice. Meanwhile, the posts about “Project Sekai” ending remain unconfirmed rumors based on an image, not an official announcement, so caution is warranted. Some replies even confuse it with unrelated titles like “Princess Connect! Re:Dive,” illustrating how easily unverified information spreads in these threads.

  • VIP Board Kicks Off 24-Hour Drinking Marathon — 5ch Regulars: “Stop Me If I Head to the Pachinko Parlor”

On the night of the 24th, a thread starter on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board declared a “24-hour drinking festival” and kicked off the evening with shochu mixed with cola, snacking on peanuts and seared bonito (katsuo tataki). Regulars who gathered in the thread needled the OP over having diabetes and over the fact that this was already his fourth self-imposed pachinko ban (commonly called “pachi-kin”) this month, now on its third day. The conversation ranged from struggles with cutting carbs to a request that others stop him if he looked like he was about to head to a pachinko parlor, with drinking buddies also posting photos of snacks like chicken skin and deep-fried tofu that drew comments.

    Background and Talking Points

Pachinko parlors’ “self-exclusion / family-exclusion programs” let a person — or a family member on their behalf — request that they be barred from entering for a set period. It’s a self-help tool that halls across Japan have adopted for people who recognize they have a gambling problem. The OP is on his fourth such self-exclusion this month alone, and the repeated attempts reflect how recovery from addiction rarely follows a straight line. Drinking while managing diabetes, along with his choice of snacks, is also a combination that calls for medical caution, which is the context behind regulars’ repeated ribbing about his carb intake. The OP appears to be a regular who often starts these kinds of live drinking threads, so the back-and-forth with other posters may seem abrupt to first-time readers — but it reads more smoothly once you realize it’s just familiar faces ribbing each other.

Project idol group Tsubaki Factory posted on her own X (Twitter) account, “Everyone, clear your schedule for this evening,” and then, starting around 5:50 p.m., held a surprise acoustic sing-along live stream with fellow member Doi Fuuka on the group’s official Instagram. Despite the complete lack of advance notice, a large number of fans tuned in, and on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, praise for the two members’ singing ability poured in one after another. At the same time, posters also voiced concern about the group’s current situation — including the song-part allocation for the upcoming Budokan concert and ticket sales — making for a thread that mixed genuine excitement with a more critical eye.

    Background and Talking Points

This stream began as a spur-of-the-moment call put out by Tsubaki Factory’s Nishimura Otoki on her own personal X account — notably not something driven by the talent agency’s official promotion. On 5ch, the two members’ singing drew strong praise, with some posters offering the flattering (if slightly loaded) comparison “the Reiwa-era Tsuji & Kago”*. At the same time, a number of posts expressed concern about song-part allocation at the upcoming Budokan concert and about ticket sales, suggesting that praise for the performance and the group’s overall popularity don’t necessarily move together. That said, comments about ticket trends or the popularity of specific members are only speculation from board posters — not officially announced figures or confirmed facts. It should also be noted that several posts making crude remarks about members’ physical appearance have been excluded from this article.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “King Nishimura Otoki: ‘Everyone!!!! Please clear your schedule this evening! Gather on Tsubaki’s Instagram around 17:50!! We’re gonna sing with Doi Fuuka!!’” See the original thread.

Translator’s notes: “King” (きんぐ) and “Fuu-chan” are the fans’ nicknames for Nishimura Otoki and Doi Fuuka, respectively. “The Reiwa-era Tsuji & Kago” refers to Tsuji Nozomi and Kago Ai, the famed early-2000s Morning Musume duo “W,” widely remembered for their vocal ability — a high compliment, though one poster found the comparison a bit much. “Rimista” is another regular Hello! Project livestream/talk program some fans watch alongside official Instagram Lives; exact details of its format aren’t specified in the thread. “Ressa” appears to be a fellow member’s nickname, per the original post; “fusianasan” is an old 2channel/5ch in-joke username some posters still use for laughs.

  • No Song Titles on the Menu Screen? 5ch: “That’s Just Trash, Come On”

A thread titled “Beatmania is honestly way too crappy a game” popped up on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board, kicking off with complaints that the menu screen doesn’t display song titles at all — only genre and difficulty. The discussion then broadened into a debate about the series as a whole, with posters citing Konami’s shoot-’em-up series “Gradius” for comparison, suggesting the original was accessible to everyone while the sequels narrowed their focus toward hardcore fans. Some pushed back with specific sales figures, and while no consensus was reached, the thread settled into a familiar general take shared across rhythm games and shooters alike: “difficulty inflation widens the gap between newcomers and veterans.”

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Beatmania is the original music game Konami launched in 1997, spawning numerous spin-off series since, including IIDX. The complaint raised in the thread about missing song titles reflects a real quirk of the song-select screen, which shows only genre and difficulty — a usability issue that makes it harder for beginners to pick songs. Meanwhile, the exchange about Gradius used posts citing sales figures of “1 million units” for the original and “500,000” for the third installment as evidence, but it’s worth noting these numbers come from individual posters’ memories rather than confirmed statistics presented as fact in this article. The discussion centers on two main points: whether the original was made for everyone while its sequels narrowed toward a hardcore audience, and the broader claim that rhythm games and shooters decline as difficulty inflation widens the gap between newcomers and veterans. The latter point tends to come up regardless of genre, with some posts even citing the bullet-hell style of the Touhou series as an example.

  • ‘Using Your Turn Signal Is Uncool’ Theory Sparks Backlash — 5ch: ‘Then Don’t Drive’

It started with a wave of social media posts claiming “using your turn signal is uncool,” and the debate soon spread to 5channel. When one poster admitted they only flick the signal on after the light turns green, others fired back: “Why wouldn’t you signal at all?” and “At least start a little before it turns green.” Meanwhile, some defended holding off, citing reasons like “I hate having it blink the whole time the light’s red” or “I want to save the bulb.” The discussion eventually expanded to cover sequential turn signals and even the merits of the licensing system itself.

    Nah, that's not it.
They don't even realize they're being a nuisance.
They just figure they're a good driver, that's all.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The post that sparked this article — “using your turn signal is uncool” — humorously voices the mindset of drivers who hold off on signaling. Japan’s Road Traffic Act requires drivers to signal in advance before turning or changing lanes, and failing to signal, or signaling too late, can result in a citation. In the thread, the practical question of “when to signal” got tangled up with the etiquette question of “some people just don’t signal at all,” leading to moments where the two sides talked past each other. The discussion also touched on the reputation of sequential turn signals and equipment on newer car models, broadening well beyond a simple critique of manners.

  • Welfare Recipient’s ¥120,000-a-Month ‘It’s Rough’ Complaint Splits 5ch: ‘Get a Job Instead’

A thread went up on 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board started by a poster claiming to receive welfare benefits, complaining that “¥120,000 a month is rough.” Since welfare payment amounts vary by household makeup and region, it’s hard to say flatly whether that’s a lot or a little, but the poster took issue with how little is left once housing costs are excluded. That drew a wave of pushback — “just get a job,” “plenty of people live on that” — while the thread evolved into a debate over just how “cultured” a life welfare payments can actually support. Opinions split over how to interpret the constitutional guarantee of “a minimum standard of wholesome and cultured living.”

What exactly is it you want to do?

It is the bare minimum, after all.

A single room with air conditioning, a bath and toilet you can use every day, a phone for emergency calls, enough food that you won't starve, and a hospital you can go to if you get sick —

that's probably what "minimum" means, so ¥120,000 ought to be plenty, no?

Where's the "cultured" part of that?

Fair point, actually. Can you really not get a decent internet setup on welfare?

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Japan’s welfare payments are split into categories like “livelihood assistance” and “housing assistance,” with the exact figures set by a tiered regional system that varies by where a recipient lives and their household composition. The wording of Article 25 of the Constitution — guaranteeing “a minimum standard of wholesome and cultured living” — is abstract, and exactly what level that refers to has been debated for decades through legislation and past court cases (such as the Asahi lawsuit). The thread’s disagreement over “where cultured living begins” is really just an extension of that long-running argument. The Public Assistance Act also requires recipients who are able to work to job-hunt, so the “just get a job” responses reflect that official premise of the system — but in practice, many recipients face health or family circumstances that make working difficult, and it’s worth noting the original post alone doesn’t reveal the poster’s actual situation.
