  • New Hololive member’s debut stream sparks 5ch worry: ‘Won’t she run out of gas?’

In a chat thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyō G” (Anything Live-Commentary) board, a discussion about a rookie VTuber’s debut stream became the talk of the thread. In response to a post declaring “A new era for Hololive has arrived 😆,” replies followed voicing concern over how short the stream was, including worried remarks like “Isn’t she going too fast? Won’t she run out of gas?” The thread itself wasn’t built around any single topic — it was a typical freewheeling chat thread on the live-commentary board, with random bits of trivia flowing one after another, from anime popularity polls to chatbot user rankings to nostalgic stream-watching memories, the subject shifting with nearly every post.

Background and key points of this topic

Threads like this are the signature chat-dump style of the “Nandemo Jikkyō G” board — there’s no single incident or news story behind them; it’s business as usual for whatever image or bit of trivia catches people’s attention in the moment to keep flowing one after another. What stood out this time was the exchange around a rookie Hololive member’s debut stream. Since VTuber debut streams are normally treated as a fan festival and tend to run long, reactions like “the stream’s way too short” and “isn’t she going too fast, won’t she run out of gas?” are, read the other way around, also a sign of just how high expectations were. The thread also contained posts mocking the physical appearance of real streamers and VTubers, which this article has left out. One easy trap for readers is treating a chat thread like this as a single, unified topic, when in reality it’s a grab-bag of small, disconnected exchanges — best read with that in mind.

  • I Can’t Take Packed Trains Anymore: 5ch Asks, ‘Is This the Glamorous Tokyo Life I Dreamed Of?’

A post showing a photo of a packed train in central Tokyo, captioned with the anguished cry “I can’t take this anymore,” sparked a wide-ranging discussion about commuting on 5ch’s Nanimo Jikkyo (Live News) board. Comments compared it to trains in India, brought up the frequent groping incidents on the Saikyo Line, and threw out concrete ideas like commuting by moped or making train cars double-decker. The thread also spiraled into debates over why remote work hasn’t caught on and whether it’s worth living in the city center, with one comment even noting that “Tokyo’s prosperity is propped up by the sacrifices of the people commuting into it.”

This is what I have to do every single day until I retire!

I work this hard every day and we’re still basically dead last in the country for quality of life!

The problem is that nobody speaks up.
It's a bad social trend that nobody just says 'the train was packed so I couldn't make it in time' and lets it go at that.
That's exactly the kind of thing young people should be raising on social media — before complaining about hating drinking parties.

    Re: #39
There's no apartment that convenient in the city center.
    45AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:16
Can't they just make trains double-decker? Like London buses.
    52AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:18
    Re: #45
Double-decker cars can structurally only fit two doors, and the stairs end up super narrow, so boarding and getting off takes forever.
Running them in the city would cause constant delays, so it's a no-go.
    60AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:21
    Re: #45
It's possible, but fares would jump and you wouldn't be able to stand, so the total passenger capacity might actually end up lower.
    46AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:16
    Re: #41
Dunno if it counts as the city center, but when I lived in Ota Ward, I could use the apartment's parking for 1,000 yen a month.

    Re: #51
Bringing up 'the workplace' now is moving the goalposts, lol. If you're picking a bike, of course you'd look for parking at work too. And with a moped you can often park it at station bike lots as well, so overall a scooter still beats the train.
    77AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:27
    Re: #67
No, we were talking about commuting from the start, so there's no goalpost-moving here.
Monthly station bike lots are rarely available, and once you factor in gas money you'll easily blow past the cost of a commuter pass — and barely any company allows commuting by car or motorbike in the first place.
    82AnonymousSep 30, 2026 07:30
Honestly, you're better off just living in the city center.
At the end of the day it's only about 100,000 yen a month different from the suburbs.

Osaka, Fukuoka, and Nagoya all have that stuff too, so there's no need to specifically pick Tokyo.

Background and key points of this discussion

According to a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism survey, congestion rates on major train lines have dropped to around 150%, but the crowding still feels intense in practice, and awareness campaigns against groping continue on some lines, including the Saikyo Line. The thread also brought up making train cars double-decker, but in reality this isn’t used on commuter lines in the greater Tokyo area, since it would lengthen boarding times and disrupt train intervals. Some commenters claimed remote work “hasn’t caught on,” but the rate of work-from-home varies widely by industry, and it isn’t the case that companies have uniformly banned it. The debate over whether to live in the city center or the suburbs also largely comes down to personal values — whether you prioritize commute time or housing costs — so it isn’t a question with a simple right answer.

  • Ippo’s Slap Scene Photo Stirs Up 5ch: ‘You’ve Made Me Angry’

An image of a scene from “Hajime no Ippo” in which protagonist Ippo Makunouchi slaps another character was posted to 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” live-commentary board, drawing a wave of reactions. In the scene, Ippo flies into a rage and strikes a delinquent he’d been teaching to box, after learning the young man only wanted boxing skills to get stronger at street fighting. The thread buzzed over Ippo’s famous line “You’ve made me angry” and the fact that the victim lost his memory of the incident and never filed a police report, before spiraling into a broader debate about the series as a whole — changes in the art style over its decades-long run, the story being stuck mid-hiatus in the prison arc, and lingering questions over why Ippo has never won a world title.

Because that would get in the way of Miyata's whole arc. Taking up the mantle Date passed on to him and beating Ricardo to become champion would be a clean ending, sure — but then what happens to Miyata…

    Background and Points of Discussion

“Hajime no Ippo” is a boxing manga that has been running since 1989, already spanning more than three decades. The reactions here mainly split over the evaluation of the artwork, with some arguing it has “gotten worse” or “lost its former energy through oversimplification,” while others countered that it has actually become more technically skilled. Whether the art-style shift that comes with any long-running series counts as decline or evolution is largely a matter of readers’ subjective taste. It’s also true that the series has been on long-term hiatus since entering the prison arc, but the reasons for that and any timeline for its return have not been officially explained by the author or publisher — the thread’s suggestion that “Kodansha is dragging it out” is purely reader speculation, not a confirmed fact. As for Ippo never having won a world title, since the series hasn’t concluded, the honest answer is simply that “it hasn’t been decided yet,” so any definitive judgment on that point would be premature.

  • ‘Your Deutsche Bahn Delay Joke’ Isn’t Funny Anymore — Sparks Debate on Overseas Forum

Deutsche Bahn (DB)’s chronic delays are a well-worn self-deprecating joke abroad too, but a railway journalist’s blog post arguing “that joke isn’t funny anymore” sparked a debate on the Lemmy community c/europe. While some pointed out that Germany ranks dead last among major countries for punctuality, and commuters shared their own experiences of frequent delays, a persistent counterargument held that “cars and planes are late too, so why single out trains?” The discussion also touched on a separate glitch in which DB’s official website was temporarily blocking access from Linux users, highlighting frustration that goes beyond a simple running joke.

This just reads like an overlong Facebook rant… I was hoping for actual data, like delay rates per hour. That's the kind of thing that would back up the blogger's complaint and might actually change people's minds.
    4Anonymous2026-09-28 20:00
I commute by train in Austria, and delays only happen with trains coming from Germany. I have a ticket valid on any train, so it occasionally works in my favor — like when an ICE rolls onto the platform two hours late and it just happens to line up with when I get off work.

    6Anonymous2026-09-29 06:04
I've been using DB for the past seven years, and delays over two hours I can count on one hand. But 30-minute to one-hour delays are genuinely common — it happens on about half my trips. For anything important, I make sure to travel the day before and stay overnight. The worst was a five-hour delay, caused by a signal failure between Frankfurt and Cologne.

    10Anonymous2026-09-29 06:47
There's a famous line about the nature of people who complain about German trains:

'Passengers never complain about a train that doesn't exist, because that train simply isn't there.'

Solution: just run fewer trains (joke)
    37Anonymous2026-09-29 10:11
    Re: #10
I wish that were just a joke, but they're actually doing it for real. That's exactly why so much rail infrastructure was lost through the '80s and '90s.
    11Anonymous2026-09-29 03:40
Most of the time it's fine, but you can't rely on it. If the price were a third of what it is now — or at least half — I think people would complain less, since the service would actually match the price.

Sorry, but I honestly find it hard to believe a site would block requests just because the browser/client headers — `sec-ch-ua-platform` or `user-agent` — contain "linux" or don't contain "windows"… Also, I'm browsing the site just fine using Firefox and Chrome on a Linux distro. Mind if I ask how you confirmed it was OS-related?
    16Anonymous2026-09-29 04:11
    Re: #12
That was actually a real issue fairly recently. It's fixed now — DB itself admitted that blocking Linux users like that wasn't intended behavior.
    17Anonymous2026-09-29 05:57
    Re: #12
    A journalist looked into it.

There's a German-language article and an English-language article (both linked).
I ran into the same issue myself when I tried DB's route search a week ago.
    14Anonymous2026-09-29 08:24
I think that's a bit off the mark too. It was never a joke — at least not for commuters who have to deal with it two to five days a week. Sure, people say 'it's a joke,' but that's really just irony, a coping mechanism because otherwise you can't stand it — not an actual joke.
    18Anonymous2026-09-29 06:01
Local public transit in cities is usually fine. Local public transit in rural villages is usually awful. And every German has at least one or two stories about long-distance public transit going spectacularly wrong.
    27Anonymous2026-09-29 07:03
    Re: #18
Sure, but I've also got stories about long-distance car trips going terribly. Yet there's no running joke about German roads being garbage.
    20Anonymous2026-09-28 21:43
A few years back a friend was planning a trip to Germany and needed to travel between two cities. A quick search showed a regular train covering roughly 100-200 km cost about €60. Covering a similar distance on Spain's high-speed rail was about €20. I don't know if things have changed since, but back then, Deutsche Bahn looked like a joke.

(Data from the link) According to this, Germany ranks 7th out of the 7 countries listed, with a punctuality rate of 58.5%. Though the original dataset apparently covers 11 countries, so there may be more countries that just didn't make the top-7 list.

    Re: #7
    'Nobody complains'?
…Wait, what are you talking about?

Background and key points of this discussion

The self-deprecating gag that “German trains are always late” is a familiar bit even in the English-speaking world, but Deutsche Bahn’s (DB) on-time performance has remained poor in recent years, and the data cited in this thread ranks it last among the seven countries compared (58.5%). Opinions in the thread split over whether this is something you can still laugh off as a joke or a genuine, harmful grievance: commuters testified that 30-minute-to-one-hour delays are an everyday occurrence, while others pushed back with “cars and planes are late too” and “the road network is just as bad, people just don’t complain about it.” Another point of discussion was DB’s official website blocking access that appeared to come from Linux — a real glitch that was also reported by overseas media (and has since been fixed). Note that the claim linking the delays to rail-infrastructure cuts in the ’80s and ’90s is one poster’s personal opinion, not verified data.

  • Tokai Onair’s Tetsuya Completes New Home — 5ch: “That Life-Size Spider-Man Is So Cool”

Tetsuya (32), leader of the popular YouTuber group Tokai Onair, revealed his newly completed home in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture in a YouTube video, sparking a huge buzz on 5ch. Users marveled at the mansion’s opulence — a vaulted-ceiling entrance hall and a room housing a life-size Spider-Man figure — while others chimed in guessing at the construction costs and the garden’s upkeep. Tetsuya, also known for marrying former AKB48 member Minami Minegishi, even drew some “who is this guy?” reactions early in the thread, revealing just how much his name recognition varies by region.

    Background and Talking Points

Tokai Onair has been based in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture since 2013, with Tetsuya serving as the leader who comes up with and drives the group’s video projects. He’s also known for marrying former AKB48 member Minami Minegishi in 2023. It’s worth noting that the figures thrown around in the thread — construction costs, land prices, even the price of a single pane of glass — aren’t official numbers, just estimates users pieced together from photos and rough price-per-tsubo math. The main point of debate was how to judge the strategy of staying based locally instead of relocating to Tokyo: many commenters praised it, arguing that being rooted in the region is exactly what let the group build cooperative ties, like being named a local tourism ambassador. Others countered that living in Tokyo isn’t always a personal choice — often it’s just where the work is — so the debate over whether basing yourself outside Tokyo is truly the better move doesn’t land on a simple conclusion.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

It’s worth noting that “Kamiko’s” emergency return was never officially announced by her or her agency — it’s fan speculation based on a sighting at a concert venue. In the thread, opinions split over the purpose and outcome of her study abroad: some praised her English ability, while others questioned whether she can actually hold a conversation. Views also diverged on how her media exposure during the study-abroad period affected the group’s popularity, with several posts openly questioning the point of the trip altogether. At the same time, plenty of comments expressed concern for the group’s current state and welcomed the idea of her return, underscoring just how closely fans are following ANGERME’s activities. Since this is all based on a sighting report and nothing more, it should not be taken as confirmed fact.

Hello! Project idol Hana Goto has been found to have viewed multiple fans’ Instagram Stories, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. There were also posts claiming other members such as Ise, Irie, Kawana, and Tamenaga have had similar viewing habits go viral before, with some comparing the gap between the Showa-era idol image and the SNS-era idol image.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“Ōkami” (literally “wolf”) is 5ch slang for the Hello! Project discussion boards, where posters have a culture of reading into members’ behavior using SNS viewing activity and “footprints” as “evidence.” Since viewing an Instagram Story leaves a footprint visible to the poster, this time it was confirmed — through posts from the member herself and those around her — that Hana Goto had viewed multiple fans’ Stories, sparking discussion. In the thread, reactions were split between those happy to have been noticed and those who felt the closeness with fans came across as cheap, with some drawing a comparison to the gap between the Showa-era idol image and the SNS-driven Reiwa-era idol image. Other members such as Ise, Irie, Kawana, and Tamenaga are also said to have had their viewing history become a topic before, suggesting that how Hello! Project members handle distance with fans has become something of a broader talking point across the group. It’s worth noting that the fact she “viewed” the Stories is only what can be inferred from her own posts and actions — it doesn’t confirm her intent or the full truth behind it.

  • Juice=Juice’s Sakura Ishiyama & Akari Endo Take on Co-op Games Live — 5ch on Brutal ‘Super Bunny Man’: ‘This Looks Hopeless’

Starting at 9pm on September 29, Juice=Juice’s YouTube channel aired a live broadcast of “Harotsu GAMES” featuring Sakura Ishiyama and Akari Endo, who took on the co-op games “Log Riders” and “Super Bunny Man.” On 5ch’s Hello! Background and Discussion Points

“Harotsu GAMES” is a YouTube series in which Hello! Project members take on video games, and this time Juice=Juice’s Sakura Ishiyama and Akari Endo joined as a pair. The featured title, “Super Bunny Man,” is a co-op platformer whose whole appeal is physics-driven controls that refuse to go the way you want — a game built around repeated failure and falling — so the commentary thread lit up with reactions like “this looks hopelessly impossible” and “it was a disaster when Yuhane tried this too.” Former group member Mizuki Murota, mentioned in the thread, once tackled the same game in the same series, and footage of that attempt is still fondly remembered today. The thread was mostly live commentary on the broadcast itself rather than a point of controversy — the game’s sheer difficulty was, by far, the biggest talking point.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “■ Sakura Ishiyama & Akari Endo ■ YouTube ‘[Harotsu GAMES] A Super Co-op Game Special for the Two of Them [Log Riders / Super Bunny Man]’ ■ 9:00 PM~ ■2.”

  • Who’s the Next ‘Momochi’? 5ch Weighs In: ‘Shimakawa Has the Best Shot Right Now’

A thread titled ‘I guess we’ll never see another Momochi’ popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Momochi — former Morning Musume member Momoko Tsugunaga — first drew attention in variety shows after being kicked by Koji Kato, going on to build a name for herself on shows like Mecha-Ike. In the thread, posters floated names like Rosy’s Shimakawa and Kudo as potential successors, while opinions split over the kick that sparked her breakout, with some calling it ‘straight-up violence’ and others countering that ‘it was scripted and she’d agreed to it beforehand.’ The discussion also touched on Kato’s past on-screen encounter with AKB48’s Mayu Watanabe, debating whether that kind of staging was appropriate.

    Re: #65
Wasn't Chou Tokkyu on that one? Assuming this was before M!LK had even formed

    Background and Talking Points

Momoko Tsugunaga (nicknamed Momochi) is known for continuing to make her mark through physically-committed variety appearances even after leaving Morning Musume in 2014. Her breakout is said to have started with a bit in which she got kicked by Koji Kato and covered in powder — a reminder that variety TV back then tolerated far more extreme stunts than it does today. In recent years, rising compliance concerns have made that kind of physical-stunt segment much harder to pull off, so when the thread says ‘we’ll never see one again,’ it’s not just about any one person’s personality — it also reflects how much TV production styles have shifted. The thread’s mention of ‘Mobekimasu’ refers to a nickname for a group of Hello! Project members lumped together under an ‘unconventional-looks’ category at the time; since every member in that group has since graduated, the generational handover is complete, which is why posters call it ‘ancient history.’

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “I guess we’ll never see another Momochi.”

  • Late-Night 5ch Live Thread Spirals from Animal Noises to Ghost Debate: “Ghosts and the Afterlife Are 100% Just Fiction”

In a thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (anything-goes live-commentary board), idle chatter — meaningless animal-noise exchanges and reactions to reader-submitted images — rambled on until a post declaring “Ghosts and the afterlife are 100% just fiction” sparked a small back-and-forth over whether spirits are real. Some posters offered their own theories, others replied with images resembling personal anecdotes, and the topic kept drifting without ever reaching a conclusion. Elsewhere, someone suddenly posted a new character image and asked “What anime is this from?”, while others speculated about why popular VTuber “Rushia,” who has since left the scene, departed.

    Re: #171
She got too popular, people got jealous, and she was pushed out

Background and key points of this topic

“Rushia” is the nickname of Uruha Rushia, a popular VTuber formerly affiliated with Hololive, whose activities ended in 2022 when her contract was terminated. The agency never disclosed the full details behind that decision, and fans still trade various theories about it to this day — the thread’s claim that “she got too popular, people got jealous, and she was pushed out” is just one such theory, and should be read with that caveat in mind. The same caution applies to the exchange about ghosts and the afterlife: the “just fiction” claim was simply met with images and anecdote-like responses, and no side was ever established as the definitive “answer” within the thread. Because live-commentary threads consist of posts that constantly cycle through, unverified claims and personal assumptions tend to flow past as-is, so it’s worth keeping in mind that individual comments are part of casual chatter rather than confirmed information.
