  • Fans Voice Concern Over Growing Gap Within Hello! Project — 5ch: “I Thought Only Morning Musume Would Ever Get a Shot”

Hello! Project is a massive idol collective made up of more than ten groups, including Morning Musume。, Juice=Juice, Angerme, and Tsubaki Factory. In recent years Juice=Juice has pulled ahead of the pack through music-show appearances and viral buzz on social media, while other groups’ exposure has reportedly stagnated. Discussion kicked off on 5ch’s Hello! Project board with a post claiming the “gap between groups is getting brutal.” Voices blaming the agency’s management clashed with counterarguments that it simply comes down to hit songs and differences in ability, with commenters citing members like Moe Kamikoryo — who hasn’t landed a spot on a major music show despite ten years in the group — as evidence of the disparity.

The gap in what Juice=Juice and everyone else get to do is way too big at this point.
What are we even supposed to do about this…

Feels like Tsubaki, BEYOOOOONDS, Ocha Norma, and Rosy Chronicle are picking up a few more fans too, even if just a little.
Maybe some new fans drawn in by flattering promo shots are trickling their way over.
    9AnonymousSep 5, 2026 07:52
Isn't what the agency should really be working hard at not shoving one group in our faces, but making sure the other groups at least get a shot on CDTV too?
The way things are going now is bound to tank morale for the other groups' members — that's definitely not good.

Suzuki and Ishikawa in Morning Musume。are still on the young side, so it's probably best not to force TV appearances on them for a while yet.
They should be building toward it over the next three years or so.

Juice=Juice went on the CDTV New Year's Eve live at 4 AM, an illegally uploaded clip blew up on Twitter, and now they get booked on the regular broadcast every couple of months.

    73AnonymousSep 5, 2026 08:16
I want them to keep building up Juice=Juice's brand power so that, like Morning Musume。in its prime, booking Juice=Juice on a show lets them wedge Rosy Chronicle in as a tie-in act (a common TV booking practice).
    84AnonymousSep 5, 2026 08:18
    Re: #73
Rosy Chronicle is basically Juice=Juice's dedicated in-house opening act.
With more big venues coming up, they'll get plenty of chances to open.
    81AnonymousSep 5, 2026 08:18
I don't know much about the industry, but I bet the people making music shows are glad to have an idol group with real chops like Juice=Juice.
Feels like that kind of goodwill is what leads to the next booking.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Hello! Project is home to more than a dozen groups, and in recent years Juice=Juice has been raising its profile through music-show appearances and viral buzz on social media. Meanwhile, groups like Morning Musume。, Angerme, and Tsubaki Factory reportedly haven’t achieved the same level of exposure, and the thread saw frustration and defense swirl around that gap. The debate splits largely into two camps: one questioning whether the agency is deliberately favoring Juice=Juice, and the other arguing the difference simply comes down to results — hit songs, view counts, and the like. Those in the latter camp point to how a clip from a late-night CDTV New Year’s Eve live went viral as evidence. One thing readers might easily get wrong is that booking on shows like CDTV isn’t decided by the agency alone — the show’s own casting choices play a role too, which is why some in the thread pushed back with “shouldn’t they just make a hit song first?” It’s also worth noting the case of Moe Kamikoryo, who spent ten years in the group without landing a spot on a major music show — a fact often cited as background for this whole gap debate.

※This article excerpts and summarizes the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “[Urgent] Hey, isn’t the gap within Hello! Project getting worse and worse?.”

  • Novelist: ‘Put Kawanishi Yuina on TV and She’d Captivate the Whole Nation’ — Post Splits Opinion

A novelist’s post on X — “It’s understandable that Juice=Juice appears on music shows, but if Kawanishi Yuina were featured based purely on how good her singing is, she’d surely captivate everyone” — became a hot topic on a Hello! Project-focused thread. Kawanishi Yuina is a member of Juice=Juice, a Hello! Project group. The post drew pushback (“who are you to call it ‘understandable’”), and it also reignited old grudges over how Juice=Juice and Tsubaki Factory were formed, member transfers between the two, and the long-running friction between their fanbases — turning into a debate that went well beyond the original post.

That's way off base. Juice=Juice never had a regular SKY PerfecTV! slot or a regular radio show. Tsubaki even had a live band backing them before Juice did. Every good Takui-composed song that Hello! Project fans love went exclusively to Tsubaki.

Tsubaki was the one with the privileged setup. Juice=Juice just clawed its way up from nothing.

She's been pushed onto TV to the absolute limit, but she still hasn't captivated everyone, has she. Her numbers haven't shot up to some otherworldly level where a Kohaku spot feels like a lock, have they. And that's all supposedly because Juice=Juice is mediocre.

A lot of fans switched their favorite around the time Juice's original lineup fell apart and the Little Glamers joined. Back in the so-called 'Ado Dame' days (a rough patch fans still refer to), the way Tsubaki fans trashed Juice was honestly ugly. Turns out Juice won big in the end — serves them right.

To put it simply, Juice=Juice is on 'our side' — the ordinary, unremarkable side. Even with 100 times the TV exposure they have now, the raw material just isn't there to win over everyone.

Right. Up until about a year ago, Juice=Juice — even scrutinized closely — was so unpopular with Hello! There's no way a group like that suddenly captivates everyone just from more TV time.

It's probably because Juice=Juice flipped the pecking order on them. Tsubaki went off the rails the same way when BEYOOOOONDS broke the pecking order too.

It was written right there on the burner account.

BEYOOOOONDS got a premium concert right after debut.
Tsubaki didn't get their first premium concert until their 4th year.
On Love Music, other Hello! Project members got cast into Tsubaki's part.
    What's that about?
    Did they do something wrong?
Yeah, they did, didn't they? Even after her boyfriend scandal got exposed, she's still in contact with a guy.
Onoda? Ran off using a herniated disc as her excuse.
Togawa got kicked out — selfish, self-centered.

Even in terms of pecking order, Tsubaki was below them from the start, wasn't it. This happens because the fans who looked down on Juice during its slump never updated their mindset.

Tsubaki Factory's Kawanishi Yuina, who got a lot of requests from other members, sang a certain song for us 🎙
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HQzwbW8aYAAprSN.jpg

    Background and Points of Contention

Juice=Juice and Tsubaki Factory are both Hello! Project groups, and the thread repeatedly circles back to how their formation histories are intertwined. Members such as Juju Asakura and Ami Tanimoto were reportedly originally expected to join Juice=Juice, but when Karin Miyamoto’s planned move to Morning Musume.’14 fell through, Tsubaki Factory was hastily formed instead — this has long been cited as the starting point of the rivalry between the two groups’ fanbases. The thread also repeatedly brings up claims that many former members of ‘Little Glamers’ had hoped to join Juice=Juice. That said, these are accounts that have circulated among fans over time, and it’s worth noting they’re distinct from any officially confirmed account of events. What divided the thread wasn’t so much Kawanishi Yuina’s own merits, but rather the question of “which group delivered results under tougher conditions” — differing interpretations of past broadcast opportunities and shifts in member popularity fueled the disagreement.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Hello! Project) thread “Novelist: ‘It’s understandable that Juice=Juice appears on music shows, but if Kawanishi Yuina were featured, she’d surely captivate everyone’.”

  • Juice=Juice’s Duet at the Hamada Song Festival Goes Viral in 3 Hours — Tops 470,000 Views

A duet performed by Juice=Juice members Inoue and Danbara (Reiruru) on the September 4 broadcast of “Hamada Kayosai” went viral within about three hours, with the post racking up 473,000 views. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, many praised their vocal skill, with comments like “their harmony was so clean it sounded lip-synced.” At the same time, the show’s own household TV ratings came in at just 3.3%, and reactions split over how to interpret the gap between the buzz on social media and the low broadcast ratings.

They smashed through the wall that used to trap Hello! Project inside its own bubble of 'no matter what we do, it's never good enough.' Background and Points of Debate

“Man-buzz” (万バズ) is slang for a social media post whose reactions — likes and the like — exceed 10,000, a metric distinct from raw view/impression counts. In the thread, two camps coexisted: those who took the strong response from viewers outside the Hello! Project fanbase as “proof of mainstream appeal,” and those who suspected the buzz was manufactured by insiders (self-promotion). Because the social media buzz and the show’s 3.3% household TV rating were being discussed side by side, opinions split over how to interpret the two figures together. TV household ratings tend to strongly reflect the viewing habits of older audiences, while social media reactions tend to reflect the interests of younger audiences — the thread itself never raises the premise that the two don’t necessarily align, but it’s worth keeping in mind when weighing these seemingly contradictory numbers.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “[Breaking] Juice=Juice’s Inoue and Danbara (Reiruru) from Hamada Kayosai already going viral after just 3 hours — a record-breaking moment for our army.”

  • Who’s the ‘most popular’ member in each Hello! Project group? Ruru Danbara and Marin Fukuda’s names come up

A thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board debated who counts as the “most popular” member in each Hello! Project group. Posters noted that Morning Musume.’s Ruru Danbara draws support through her polished, high-level performances, while Tsubaki Factory’s Marin Fukuda earns praise for her well-balanced looks — even as some scratched their heads over members like Sakura Oda and Suzuran Ise, asking “why are they even popular?” Others pointed out that fans of veteran, performance-focused groups and fans of newer groups may simply be judging by different standards, making for a thread that revealed just how varied the yardstick for “popularity” can be among Hello! Project fans.

Background and key points of this discussion

It’s worth noting that the “most popular” rankings discussed in the thread aren’t based on any official popularity poll — they reflect how much buzz a member generates on social media, how many fans she draws at live shows and events, and simply the personal impressions of whoever’s posting. Hello! Project spans veteran groups like Morning Musume. and Angerme alongside comparatively newer groups like Tsubaki Factory, and each group’s fanbase reportedly skews toward different age ranges and priorities. Within the thread, opinion split between longtime fans who prioritize performance skill and those who value looks or overall vibe, with some posters noting that buzz on TikTok doesn’t always match turnout at live events. Since there’s no numerical backing behind any individual member’s popularity here, this should be read as nothing more than a collection of fans’ subjective takes.

  • Morning Musume。’26 Drops New MV — Spotlight on Oda Sakura’s Graduation and the 18th Gen’s Role

Morning Musume。’26 has released the Promotion Edit for “Yes ka No ka Watashi ka” (Yes or No or Me), the title track from their new single “Lonely…But not Alone/Yes ka No ka Watashi ka,” out September 30, 2026. Lyrics and composition are by Tsunku♂, arrangement by Kaoru Okubo, MV direction by Yu Matsunaga, and choreography by YOSHIKO. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, discussion ranged widely — from questions about why three of the four 18th-generation members (everyone except Sugihara) are missing from the dance scenes, to whether the coupling track “Hikari no Kanata ni” (Beyond the Light) is actually Oda Sakura’s graduation song, to opinions on the thumbnail’s vibe and the song itself.

The thumbnail's rough, but Oda-chan looks properly cute once she's actually moving, right?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Yes ka No ka Watashi ka” is the title track of the 77th single, out September 30, 2026, with the coupling track “Hikari no Kanata ni” (Beyond the Light) — a song that’s drawn attention for its ties to Oda Sakura — also included. What split the thread was whether “Hikari no Kanata ni” actually counts as Oda’s graduation song: some pointed out that elements of her stage name appear in the title, while Tsunku♂’s own liner notes contain passages that could be read as saying the song wasn’t written specifically for Oda, leaving the question unresolved. There was also speculation that three of the 18th-generation members are missing from the MV’s dance scenes because they hadn’t finished learning the choreography in time, though some pushed back on the idea that this also explains the release delay — worth noting this remains pure speculation.

  • Angerme’s Tamenaga Yukine to Step Down From Radio Fill-In Role This September

It appears that Angerme’s Tamenaga Yukine will step down this September from the radio show she had been hosting as a fill-in for Juice=Juice’s Miyazaki Yuka during her maternity leave. In the thread, speculation spread that Kawana Rin, who filled in on TV, might be replaced in the same way, with posters raising questions like “this really feels like they’re just using her and tossing her aside” and “why was it Tamenaga instead of another Juice=Juice member?” Some pointed out this may simply be the nature of so-called “village work” (mura shigoto)—duties reverting to the original person once maternity leave ends—but plenty of speculation was exchanged over the reasoning behind the choice of substitute.

    Background and Key Points

This all started with Juice=Juice’s Miyazaki Yuka (Yukanya) going on maternity leave, during which Angerme’s Tamenaga Yukine filled in on radio and Kawana Rin filled in on TV. As pointed out in the thread, having duties revert to the original person once maternity leave ends is standard personnel practice, not just within Hello! Project—this falls under what’s called “village work” (mura shigoto), the cross-group internal allocation of duties within the agency. One point readers may easily misread is that this “graduation” likely doesn’t refer to Tamenaga graduating from Angerme itself, but rather to the end of the radio slot she had been filling in for—something reflected in the differing tones across the thread, from “she got canned” to “she was just filling in, so it can’t be helped.” As for why Tamenaga and Kawana, both from a different group than Juice=Juice, were chosen instead of another Juice=Juice member, posters raised several theories—proximity of hometown, scheduling convenience—but the agency has offered no official explanation, so it all remains speculation.

  • Morning Musume Songs Keep Landing in TV Commercials — 5ch: ‘It’s Always the Golden-Age Hits’

On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, a thread heated up over the fact that Morning Musume’s old songs keep getting used in TV commercials one after another. Posters pointed to real examples of hits from 1999–2001 like “LOVE Machine” and “Koi no Dance Site” still airing in commercials today, while others voiced frustration that current members’ new songs never get used. Opinions split over whether it’s a good thing that only golden-age songs endure across generations, or simply disappointing.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Morning Musume’s “golden age” refers to roughly 1999–2001, when songs like “LOVE Machine” and “Koi no Dance Site” sold around a million copies each in rapid succession. Commercials favor these songs because they fit neatly into a 15-second slot and are instantly recognizable to almost anyone. Note that the CD sales figures cited in the thread are one poster’s personal tally and may not exactly match official numbers. It’s also worth noting that the difficulty of getting current members’ new songs into commercials isn’t unique to Hello! Project — commentators point to a broader structural tendency for commercial production staff to pick songs familiar to their own generation.

  • Angerme’s Bad Luck Streak Continues — 5ch: “Too Many Coincidences to Be Coincidence”

A thread titled “Doesn’t it feel like an unusual number of weird things keep happening around Angerme lately?” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, concerning the Hello! Project idol group Angerme. Posters listed a string of incidents in a short span — member illnesses, a fire in Ise, a member’s absence from a release event, and an earthquake in a member’s hometown — and opinions split over whether this was mere coincidence or connected to Angerme being overtaken by Juice=Juice and BEYOOOOONDS in various rankings. Some also drew comparisons to when Tsubaki Factory was previously overtaken in the group hierarchy.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Behind this thread lies an ongoing “ranking” rivalry between groups within Hello! Project. Newer groups like BEYOOOOONDS and Juice=Juice have risen and overtaken Angerme and Tsubaki Factory in metrics like monthly sales and streaming numbers, and longtime fans widely hold the view that Angerme became unstable after Kamikokuryo’s departure. Where opinions in the thread diverged was over whether to read this string of misfortunes (member illnesses, the fire in Ise, an absence at a release event, an earthquake in a member’s hometown, etc.) as mere coincidence, or to frame it in terms of a “curse” tied to the rankings being overturned. That said, posts making definitive claims about individual members’ relationships or reasons for leaving are unsubstantiated rumor, and such posts have been excluded from this article. Readers should treat this kind of posting as fan chatter rather than fact.

    Background and Key Points

TikTok is known to automatically hide posts or comment sections it judges to be sexual in nature, and there are reported cases where such takedowns get reversed once the talent agency files a complaint. In this case, opinions in the thread are split on whether the video’s disappearance was due to TikTok’s own AI moderation or a voluntary takedown by the agency, and nothing in the thread definitively settles it either way. The discussion also draws a contrast with Juice=Juice’s “leg-raise dance,” which became popular enough to be featured on NHK, against this ANGERME video’s comment section reportedly being flooded with sexual content — framed as a tale of two groups’ contrasting fortunes. Worth noting, though: all of this comes from secondhand accounts on 5ch, and none of it has been confirmed by primary sources.

I mean, coming from a scene reeking of stinky, stinky middle-aged guys
straight into flashy A-list showbiz —
of course she's having a blast.
It's the reward for enduring all that hardship until now.

Kunio: "I keep saying this — this vibe Juice=Juice has going is great, it's exciting, it's the best, I get it, but there's one thing we absolutely can't ignore: scandal risk. Just how much slack there is on that front is the real thing to watch — though calling it 'something to watch' feels totally wrong. UP-FRONT [the agency] really needs to protect Inoue, all hands on deck. I won't spell out what I mean — Reon Inoue. Please, just protect her completely."

Rurun's [Dambara Ruru] always been all 'Stones-san, Stones-san' too, so no surprise here (Stones = SixTONES).
    10AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:33
    Hamada's as stylish as ever.

    Re: #10
He wears it so casually, but that's some seriously insane denim,
    huh.
    16AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:34
This kind of reward is exactly why they put up with you guys.
    17AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:35
No idea about Johnny's talents' reputation with the general public, but they actually mix it up a lot with idols from other agencies, guys and girls alike.
    19AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:35
From Hamaura's perspective, she's gone somewhere she'll never reach now.

    Re: #19
This too is thanks to Hama-chan for deciding to disband it.
    22AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:35
Feels like Hello!Project members are probably flooding Reirei with requests to hook them up with Johnny's talents.
    25AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:37
Never seen Reirei look this happy before.
    26AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:37
Is Reirei about to get kicked by Hamada after this?
    32AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:42
    Re: #26
    Same, lol
    27AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:37
Getting a photo op in front of guys this good-looking would be a disaster waiting to happen.
    28AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:38
My oshi never leaves the village, so she's always been safe and sound.
    29AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:38
Is there even choreography Jesse and Reirei could both dance to?
    30AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:38
Jesse's genuinely handsome, so it can't be helped.
    34AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:43
If Juice members rank 100 in showbiz status,
    Hamaura doesn't even hit 1.
    35AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:44
Guessing it's the scene where Reirei just bursts out dancing on her own
and Hamada unleashes one of his signature kick-tsukkomis (comedic kick-retort).
    36AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:45
    No, Reirei, don't
I don't want to see this
    Reirei 😭
    39AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:46
Outside the village there are plenty of handsome celebrities.
Inside the village there's nothing but old Hello!Project-otaku grandpas — which is exactly why it's safe.
    42AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:46
    Dambara's fine,
    but not Reirei.
    43AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:47
Milk, Monaki, Johnny's leftovers — dangers everywhere.
    48AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:56
Yeah, this is a different story from Dambara just getting carried away.
    51AnonymousSep 4, 2026 14:57
With seiyuu-idol types, Hamada went in pretty hard on Ai Furihata, but didn't go nearly as hard on Arisa Komiya (a beauty).
Guess he adjusts depending on who he's dealing with.
    67AnonymousSep 4, 2026 15:14
Looks like she and Hama-chan are starting their own comedy duo over here — the 'Smackdown Factory' (a nod to the playful-smacking style common in Japanese comedy duos).
    69AnonymousSep 4, 2026 15:20
I saw Jesse in person once, and even as a guy I about melted, so yeah, no wonder.

    Background and Key Points

“Hamada Kayosai” is a TBS music variety show hosted by Masatoshi Hamada, and one of the few programs where young talent from multiple entertainment agencies appear together. Hello!Project, the agency behind Juice=Juice, has historically placed fairly strict limits on members’ outside activities and social media use — likely the backdrop behind thread comments urging fans to “protect” Reon Inoue. Meanwhile, some unconfirmed rumors about other members’ relationships also showed up in the thread; since these were never verified on the show and remain pure speculation, this article doesn’t address them. Collaborations with Johnny’s (Starto Entertainment) groups aren’t unusual in themselves, but the fact that this pairing involved someone Hello!Project fans rarely see interacting with such talent appears to be what drove the strong reaction.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello!Project board) thread “[Images] Juice=Juice’s Reon Inoue-chan appears with Johnny’s SixTONES members on “Hamada Kayosai (TBS)” and looks like she’s having fun wwwwwwww.”
