  • Tsubaki Factory’s New Bassist Wakazaemon: 5ch Says ‘A Celebrity With More Followers Than Tsubaki Itself’

The news that bassist “Wakazaemon” is joining Tsubaki Factory’s autumn tour became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Left-handed, with a résumé that includes backing guitarist Marty Friedman, she boasts 76,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter). Thread reactions split between surprise and welcome over whether this is a swap for the usual male bassist, and why a female musician was chosen this time.

The one playing bass on this tour —

Wakazaemon is way too cute (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) I love her so much😆

That low bass tone is so cool, love it🎶

What matters for a studio musician isn't flashy technique — it's being able to read sheet music and play exactly as instructed

Background and Key Points of This Topic

In Hello! Project song recordings and tours, it’s standard practice for members to handle vocals and dance while the actual instrumental performance is left to outside support musicians. In the thread, there was notable surprise over a female musician replacing the male bassist (Suzuki Wataru) who has typically filled the role, along with remarks about what’s actually expected of a support musician — like the point that “being able to play exactly from the sheet music matters more than flashy technique.” At the same time, Wakazaemon’s career history and high social-media profile sparked comments like “she’s got more followers than Tsubaki itself,” highlighting an odd reversal where the support musician draws more attention than the idol group. That said, it’s worth noting that the circumstances behind the previous bassist’s absence this time, and whether one or the other will keep being used going forward, remain pure speculation within the thread — there’s no official explanation.

  • Angerme’s Fukuoka show: row 19 on the first floor still on sale — 5ch dubs it ‘reality-check in progress’

Hello! Project’s Angerme is set to perform at Fukuoka Civic Hall’s Main Hall as part of their autumn hall tour, but 5ch lit up after it emerged that seats in row 19 on the first floor — a relatively front section — were still available for purchase this close to showtime. The thread compared this to fellow Hello! Project group Juice=Juice, which sold out its Zepp Fukuoka Alternative show instantly this spring, sparking debate over the gap in drawing power between groups, whether having a Kyushu-born member matters, and whether the venue capacity was set appropriately.

    61AnonymousSep 12, 2026 10:31
Oda pushed her planned graduation from spring to autumn and got Yokohama Arena — but wasn't that arena really meant for Angerme?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Angerme currently has no members from Kyushu, and its fixed fan base at regional shows is said to be thinner there than in areas tied to other members’ hometowns. Juice=Juice, meanwhile, sold out its Zepp Fukuoka Alternative show almost instantly this spring, and the thread framed this gap as a question of whether venue sizes had been set appropriately. That said, it’s worth noting that ticket sales continue right up until showtime, so the remaining-seat situation at the time of the thread doesn’t necessarily reflect the final attendance numbers. Also, the comments about trainee-turned members like Goto, Nagano, and Hirayama, read in context, aren’t criticism — they’re meant favorably, along the lines of “she’d be doing even better in another group,” which is easy to misread when taken out of context. Likewise, talk of a trainee “takeover” isn’t based on any actual agency personnel decision — it’s purely fan speculation and joking, and should be read as such.

  • 164cm Man Says ‘If Only I Were 8cm Taller’ — 5ch Weighs In on Short-Height Complex

YouTuber Wamuu, who stands 164cm tall, spoke on ABEMA Prime about his complex over being short — including once shaving a few centimeters off his real height on a matching app, and being told “if only you were 8cm taller.” The average height of Japanese men at age 20 is said to be about 171.3cm, a figure that has stayed roughly flat since the 1980s. On 5ch, threads mixed comments like “height doesn’t matter if your income or personality are good” with posts mocking his height outright, and the discussion snowballed into a full-blown debate over how height relates to marriage and romance.

The average height of Japanese men at age 20 is about 171.3cm, and it has stayed roughly flat since around 1980. Wamuu, a YouTuber standing 164cm, says he’s felt self-conscious about being below average since his school days, and has especially felt it puts him at a disadvantage in dating.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

According to the ABEMA Prime report this article is based on, the average height of Japanese men at age 20 is about 171.3cm, a figure that has stayed roughly flat since the 1980s. Wamuu’s 164cm sits about 7cm below that average. On the 5ch thread, his claim of being at a disadvantage in romance because of his height drew a mix of responses — some countering that “it all comes down to income or personality,” others dismissing it as “just not trying hard enough,” and others simply mocking his height — with no real consensus emerging. At the same time, several posters shared personal stories suggesting that nutrition and sleep during one’s growing years, not just genetics, can affect final height, showing that the roots of this kind of complex aren’t so simple. It’s also worth noting that the original article reflects Wamuu’s personal experience alone, and isn’t statistical evidence of broader dating-market trends for short men.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

In recent years, Atsushi Tamura has increasingly commented on current affairs and made no secret of his interest in a political career, and it’s hardly unusual for a celebrity who’s faced criticism to fire back with the word “jealousy.” What split opinion in this thread was the fact that the post never named its target. Several replies agreed with the point that “when you can’t actually refute what someone’s saying, it’s common to just chalk their motive up to jealousy,” echoing a shared discomfort with dismissing criticism outright using the single word “jealousy” instead of engaging with its substance. Some posts speculated it was a jab at DaiGo, who has publicly claimed to earn hundreds of millions of yen a month, but such claims never went beyond guesswork on 5ch, and Tamura himself has offered no explanation of what he actually meant.

  • Fuji TV Cancels “Sashihara Chinatsu” After Just 5 Months — Even Staff Say “Yeah, That’s Bad”

Fuji TV’s late-night variety show “Sashihara Chinatsu” is being canceled at the end of September, barely five months after its launch this past April, according to a report from Josei Jishin. The show’s title is a mash-up of the surnames of its two hosts, Rino Sashihara and Chinatsu Wakatsuki. On 5channel, opinions split over whether the cancellation comes down to sponsor issues or simply weak ratings, with plenty of blunt comments along the lines of “Honestly, it’s impressive it even lasted five months.”

I was reading this thinking it belonged on the entertainment board, but there was a business angle tacked on at the end after all.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Late-night talk variety shows are usually judged for renewal or cancellation at the boundary of a “kuru” (one broadcast season, roughly three months), so getting canceled after five months counts as relatively short-lived even by that genre’s standards. The article does make clear that the show’s title is a coined term combining the surnames of hosts Rino Sashihara and Chinatsu Wakatsuki, but the original report itself never spells out a concrete reason for the cancellation — the thread’s “poor ratings” and “sponsor trouble” theories are both just speculation. There are also comments wondering whether these “…no wake” (“the reason why…”) style headlines are AI-generated, making the reporting style itself part of the discussion — a wrinkle that isn’t obvious from the article text alone.

  • Chef Komeo Introduces ‘Monthly Stool Tests’ After Food Poisoning Scandal — Netizens Ask, ‘You Weren’t Doing That Already?’

Following a mass food poisoning outbreak in which 78 people reported feeling unwell after eating at an event that served crab ramen, chef Komeo announced on his X (Twitter) account on September 10 that he would introduce “monthly stool tests” and “health condition checks.” While framed as a measure to prevent a repeat of the incident, the announcement itself was met on 5channel with reactions like “So that means you weren’t doing that until now?” — sparking doubts about whether basic hygiene management had ever been in place at all. The thread also saw technical exchanges about whether stool testing is even legally required and where the bacteria behind the poisoning may have come from, going beyond simple criticism into more practical discussion.

    80AnonymousSep 12, 2026 03:32
Re: #74 Hygiene management is something you're supposed to handle yourself in the first place.

    Background and Talking Points

Stool testing for restaurants isn’t a legal requirement — it’s one of several forms of self-management businesses voluntarily carry out under the Food Sanitation Act. Health centers typically provide hygiene guidance during inspections, but they don’t monitor on a case-by-case basis whether stool tests are actually being performed. The thread split into two main currents: distrust over Komeo’s side offering too little explanation, and a more technical discussion about the bacteria responsible — the latter including corrections such as “Salmonella isn’t normally found in seafood,” meaning the discussion wasn’t purely emotional but also involved genuine exchanges of hygiene knowledge, a nuance the original article doesn’t fully capture. It’s also worth noting that whether “once a month” stool testing is high or low by industry standards isn’t something the forum posts alone can settle — readers who take away only the impression of “a restaurant that was doing nothing before” risk misreading the actual situation.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Geino/Sports News+) thread “Komeo introduces “monthly stool tests” and “health condition checks” after the crab ramen food poisoning incident… “So that means you weren’t doing this before?” — questions erupt.”

    Not bad, eh

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The role of secretary on Knight Scoop has been passed down between ABC announcers since the show began in 1988, starting with the very first secretary, Mari Okabe, making Takiguchi the fifth in that line. Much of Masuda’s tenure as secretary overlapped with the irregular arrangement in which a different guest fills in each week as “special assignment chief,” a workaround that’s been in place since Hitoshi Matsumoto went on hiatus at the end of 2023 — and threads repeatedly voiced frustration with that arrangement itself. Posters also noted that on a separate show, Masuda had spoken about looking at her pay statement right after going freelance and realizing she couldn’t make a living off it, tying that into the broader reality that only a handful of Osaka-based announcers — such as Seiji Miyane and Jiro Shimbo — have managed to land stable freelance work. On the whole, the thread’s focus landed less on the new secretary herself and more on the show’s structure and the uncertain career path facing female announcers.

On “Friday Roadshow,” the second part of “Titanic” aired on the 11th, after which a “special announcement” revealed the terrestrial broadcast of “Kokuho.”

Background and Key Points of Discussion

“Kokuho” is a film running over three hours that depicts the world of kabuki, and opinions on it were already split at its theatrical release, with comments ranging from “visually beautiful” to “the back half falls short.” For the terrestrial broadcast, the focus is on how the main feature will be edited for TV, with some in the thread citing the precedent of Friday Roadshow expanding its slot to four hours to air “The Sun That Never Sets” (Shizumanu Taiyo). There was also discussion of how visuals crafted for the big screen translate to a TV screen, as well as changing viewing habits where people tend to avoid long films on streaming platforms. Many comments also noted that the film’s reputation as the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time has taken on a life of its own, with sky-high expectations ironically becoming a barrier to actually watching it.

Director Christopher Nolan’s new film “The Odyssey” opened nationwide in 861 theaters on September 11. In early IMAX preview screenings, the film drew 50,818 admissions and earned ¥115,618,060 in its first three days, a stronger start than the IMAX previews of Nolan’s previous film “Michael.” As of September 9, the film’s worldwide box office has surpassed $1.638 billion (approximately ¥265.4 billion). On 5ch threads, users traded practical pre- and post-viewing questions and impressions — whether the film holds up without prior knowledge of Greek mythology, whether to watch it subtitled or dubbed, and whether there’s really a need to see a film shot entirely on IMAX cameras on an actual IMAX screen.

    Re: #85
It's impressive when you consider they barely used CG.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“The Odyssey” is based on the ancient Greek epic of the same name, and proper nouns appearing in the film, such as Circe, come straight from the original text. It’s often confused with the similarly titled 2015 film “The Martian” (Japanese title “Odyssey,” starring Matt Damon, original English title The Martian), but the two stories are completely unrelated. Nolan shot this film entirely with IMAX cameras, so the thread’s claim that “you don’t get the intended visual effect unless you watch it on an IMAX screen” has real backing in how the film was made. Note that the ¥265.4 billion figure is a worldwide cumulative total, not the opening-day results in Japan — an easy point to mix up. The thread also brought up the old theory that the Japanese folktale “Yuriwaka Daijin” derives from the Odyssey, but this is an academically debated hypothesis, not an established fact.

False advertising on the 'Final' part

Background and Key Points of This Topic

What makes this announcement unusual is that the Tokyo National Museum — a bastion of Japanese art and craft — is collaborating with “Final Fantasy.” Rather than dwelling on that history, though, the thread quickly reignited the fandom’s perennial debate: which numbered entry is the greatest. The split between the “literary” camp favoring 3, 4, and 6, and those who favor the CG-driven direction from 7 onward, is a rivalry that has played out among FF fans for years, and this was simply another rerun of it. The complaints calling stat-boosting via Magicite and abilities a “garbage mechanic” stem from a distinctly old-school gamer viewpoint: too much freedom in character building ends up draining the tension out of playing strategically. Note that the thread also contained several posts mocking politicians by name and including sexual content, but since these were unrelated tangents to the exhibition news, they have been excluded from this article. Neither the exact timing nor further venue details beyond what’s noted were specified in the original article, so more information awaits a follow-up report.
