  • FC Tokyo’s Yuto Nagatomo Set for Long-Term Absence with Torn Right ACL

On September 21, FC Tokyo announced that defender Yuto Nagatomo has been diagnosed with a “right knee anterior cruciate ligament injury.” The expected recovery time hasn’t been disclosed, but a long-term absence appears unavoidable. Given the severity of the injury at age 40, reactions poured in on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board as soon as the news broke — a mix of worry over the impact on the Japan national team (the Asian Cup and November’s match against Brazil), calls for him to retire at season’s end, and pushback that it’s too soon to talk retirement. Some discussion also centered on the gap between Nagatomo’s own description of a “tear” on social media and the club’s official wording of “injury.”

Different sport, but I've torn my ACL too — your performance genuinely drops like 20%.

There's a conservative approach that skips surgery on purpose, but that's usually for older patients.

Nagatomo himself called it a "tear" on social media though — so which is it?
    141AnonymousSep 21, 2026 17:18
    Re: #138
"Injury" includes "tear" as a category.

Background and Key Points of Discussion

The severity of an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tear is hard to gauge from news reports alone. FC Tokyo’s official statement uses the word “injury” without specifying whether it’s a partial or complete tear. Nagatomo himself, however, described it as a “tear” on social media, and this gap in wording became a talking point on the thread (>>138, >>141). Generally, a complete tear requires reconstructive surgery and can mean six months to a year of rehab before a return — and being 40 years old only clouds that outlook further. The thread’s discussion split largely into two camps: one focused on the practical worry over the national team, namely whether he’ll be fit for the upcoming Asian Cup and November’s match against Brazil; the other centered on Nagatomo’s own future, with some saying he should call it a career this season and others arguing it’s too early to assume retirement. A few replies also offered firsthand accounts of how severe this kind of injury can feel — not medical authority, but a useful gut-level perspective from people who’ve been through it.

CHARA debuted in 1990 with the single “Heaven,” and this post came ahead of her 35th anniversary in the industry. The film Swallowtail Butterfly (1996, directed by Shunji Iwai), which came up repeatedly in the thread, is one of her defining works — she starred in it and sang its theme songs — and its 30th-anniversary revival screening is part of the context behind the discussion. While the thread mostly centered on nostalgic talk about her songs and film roles, some posts veered into commentary on her family’s appearance and politically charged remarks about how Iwai’s recent work is regarded, and those portions have been left out of this article. The act of posting one’s own debut-era photos is generally seen as a way of marking a career milestone on one’s own terms.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Twenty years ago, Mona Yamamoto left “NEWS23” amid overlapping affair reports involving Goshi Hosono, who she was reported to be dating at the time, and former professional baseball player Tomohiro Nioka. Hosono himself became a recurring figure in political news coverage under the nickname “Mona-o.” In the thread, many posts speculated about this recent-photo article coinciding with Hosono’s cabinet appointment, and a fair number revisited the previously reported episode in which he took an affair trip to Kyoto on the day of his daughter’s school sports day. At the same time, many posts directly mocked her current appearance, and the mix of sympathetic and harsh reactions in the thread isn’t fully captured in the article body above.

On the September 19th late-night broadcast of MBS Radio’s “Young Town Saturday,” Akashiya Sanma vented his frustration with female announcers who quit their stations to go freelance so quickly. The trigger was guest Mao Akiyama of Tsubaki Factory saying she “wasn’t interested in being an idol but debuted after her parents begged her to.” On 5ch, users brought up real announcers like Nagisa Masui and Kana Sato who left their stations early, and reactions to Sanma’s comments were divided, with some saying “the stations are deliberately pushing them out after a few years” and others saying “the mindset back then and now is just too different.”

    Exactly this

    Background and Talking Points

Female announcers going freelance isn’t unusual these days, and cases like Nagisa Masui and Kana Sato, who left their stations after just a few years, have repeatedly become talking points within the industry. It’s worth noting that Sanma’s comments are a personal opinion, not a reflection of the actual employment contracts or resignation procedures used by the stations. In the thread, two views clashed: one holding that “the stations are deliberately pushing them out within a short period,” and another arguing that “blaming people for becoming independent is misguided.” The discussion expanded into differences in attitudes toward work across generations. Some defended the departures by pointing to the Fuji TV scandal, suggesting this goes beyond mere celebrity gossip and reflects genuine interest in the TV industry’s employment practices. That said, readers should keep in mind that the thread’s opinions remain speculation — only the people involved actually know their real reasons for leaving or the details of their contracts.

  • Matsuyama Chiharu Calls on Namie Amuro to Make a Comeback — 5ch: “I Want to See Her Sing Again”

Matsuyama Chiharu reportedly used his radio show, aired on the 20th, to call out to Namie Amuro — who retired in September 2018 — saying he “absolutely believes so many fans want to see her sing again.” The call came on the very day Amuro turned 49. On the 5ch Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board, while some straightforwardly hoped for her return, many argued that her own decision to retire — made because of her fading voice and age-related limits — should be respected. The thread also spun off into speculation about what she’s been up to in the eight years since retiring, and about her actual reasons for stepping away.

I think that's exactly why she retired.

Around the SWEET 19 BLUES era, when she went on maternity leave, her voice was already pretty hoarse and worn out.

Background and key points of this discussion

Namie Amuro announced her retirement in 2017 and closed out her entertainment career with a final concert at the Tokyo Dome on September 16, 2018. Since then, she has kept no personal social media presence and made zero media appearances — an unusually complete, clean break for someone of her stature, which is exactly what brought the topic back up in this thread. Matsuyama Chiharu, who made the comeback appeal, is a 70-year-old singer born in 1955, a folk-music veteran and longtime radio host. His comment was made purely on-air, and there’s been no response from Amuro herself. In the thread, the simple wish to “see her again” ran up against the view that her decision to retire on her own terms — citing her declining abilities — deserves respect, with the latter view appearing to dominate. It’s also worth noting that Amuro has never officially stated her reasons for retiring; specifics like health issues or vocal decline remain speculation.

    Re: #73
I've been lifting for three years too, and I'm still totally squishy lol

Background and Key Points of This Story

The event Nishino entered this time was “bodybuilding,” which judges overall body balance and muscle mass. As pointed out in the thread, his previous competition was “physique,” centered on the upper body — so even within the same competition history, the judging criteria differ. The fact that there’s a height-based class (170cm and under) is also something readers unfamiliar with combat sports or physique competitions might easily miss. Opinions in the thread were split on whether this was a strong enough result for three years of effort, with some praising the finish on his back, and others pointing out the underdeveloped abs and shoulder width — differences partly rooted in natural build. It’s also a typical reaction pattern for this kind of story that comedians who’ve bulked up in the past (like Kasuga, and Tokyo Hotei Son’s Shogo) get brought up for comparison once a bodybuilding story breaks.

The fashion brand “JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR,” founded by actor Shingo Katori (49), has issued a protest statement against its collaboration partner VASIC (Vasic Japan Inc.). According to the brand, VASIC produced more units than were actually ordered and then sold the surplus without authorization through its own outlet stores. The brand called it “not just a serious breach of contract, but an illegal act.” On 5ch, posters noted that this kind of padded production and back-door dumping isn’t unusual in the apparel industry, questioned whether the items were even selling well, and pointed out that VASIC, despite branding itself as “New York-born,” looks like it’s actually a Japanese company.

    So basically:
    – They commissioned an American fashion company called VASIC to manufacture the clothes
    – Katori's brand received and sold the goods
    – VASIC made more than what was ordered and sold the surplus at its own outlet stores
    – Katori's brand is like "Selling it at outlets without our permission?! Unacceptable!!"

    Re: #80
They don't even have a store in New York — so why "New York-born"?

Background and key points of this discussion

The core issue here isn’t counterfeiting or diversion of goods — it’s that a legitimate manufacturing partner produced more units than were actually ordered, and then sold that surplus through an unauthorized channel: its own outlet stores. Several posters in the thread noted that this kind of padded production and back-channel dumping tends to stay hidden in the apparel industry and isn’t as rare as it might seem, citing past examples like the unauthorized sale of Yoshida Kaban bags and a camping gear maker that once commercialized equipment designed by the YouTuber Hiroshi without permission. Others pointed out that VASIC brands itself as “New York-born” despite having physical stores only in Japan, raising questions about the gap between its branding and its actual identity as, in effect, a Japanese company. Notably, the official statement only says the brand “will take even stricter action going forward” — as of this report, it has not explicitly stated that concrete legal steps, such as a lawsuit, have been taken.

  • Fukumura, Inaba, Morito, Koseki, Asakura Tour Kicks Off — Fans Baffled by Reported 200-Person Turnout

Hello! Project idols Satoyo Fukumura, Manaka Inaba, Chisaki Morito, Mai Koseki, and Juju Asakura kicked off their joint tour, but things got heated on 5ch’s Hello! Project board after a post claimed the day-of ticket numbers were only in the low 200s, sparking talk that “only 200 people showed up.” The thread split into camps arguing over whether solo tours or joint tours draw bigger crowds, with some pointing to how much the absence of certain members was hurting turnout. Others questioned where the “200 people” figure even came from, noting that day-of ticket numbers aren’t the same as total attendance — so the discussion kept spreading even though the actual facts were never pinned down.

    Re: #83
They don't actually draw that many…

    Background and key points

Hello! Project has been holding more joint tours featuring multiple members together in recent years. While these cost less to produce than solo tours, they also spread the fan base thinner, making it harder to tell who people actually came to see. The “low 200s ticket numbers” cited as evidence in the thread refer to the order in which day-of tickets were issued — not the same as total attendance, which would also include advance and fan-club presale tickets, a distinction the thread itself never addressed. Some posts also compared turnout at a free or membership-based event like “Kanshasai” directly against a paid solo show’s attendance, but treating two very different kinds of events as equivalent like that is easy for readers to misread. While many posters attributed the low turnout to certain members’ absence, no official attendance figures were cited anywhere in the thread to back that up.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “It’s bizarre that a tour lineup like Fukumura, Inaba, Morito, Koseki, and Asakura only drew 200 people on opening day.”

Background and Key Points of This Story

What has been reported is an arrest on suspicion of assault, and since Inomata denies the allegations, the actual circumstances behind the injury and the truth of his “I panicked” explanation remain to be clarified through further investigation. The thread was full of posts speculating about motives like pregnancy or a breakup, but it’s worth noting these are anonymous-board speculation, not facts confirmed by reporting. Some posters also brought up past assault incidents involving other celebrities, fueling questions about how the agency will respond and how the entertainment industry handles violence cases in general.

Is there any show besides this one where he's still expected to act like a comedian? That's exactly it — this guy's already stopped being a comedian.

I've always wondered — with Uchimura already there, is Wakabayashi even necessary? Kasuga's fine since he plays a different role, though.

    Re: #11
He used to be the one managing Kasuga back in the days when Kasuga was a total loose cannon, but that's not needed anymore.

I watch it for Meruru and Hikaru Takahashi.

    Re: #12
Sei-chan stopped showing up at some point without me noticing, so now I only catch it occasionally.
    13AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:04
Same as with 'Iitomo,' 'Seven Rules,' and 'Hirunandesu' — he just up and quits these shows.
    15AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:05
Meruru's edges have softened and she's gotten incredibly cute.
    16AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:05
So this was her first regular gig? I thought it was a Hinatazaka46 show.
    17AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:07
It's a show only idol-fan otaku watch anyway. Audrey, who only pushes Sakamichi-group (Nogizaka/Hinatazaka) idols, is probably just in the way there.

Your late 40s is when your body and mind stop letting you push through — overdo it and you end up like Himura or Nainai's Okamura, dealing with depression or a breakdown.
    21AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:12
17 years — Ucchan's shows just keep running forever.
    25AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:16
This means his reigning radio show (Audrey's All Night Nippon) is on its way out too.
    31AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:25
He doesn't seem to get basic loyalty and human decency to begin with — makes you wonder if things are okay at home.
    32AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:26
Wakabayashi's been acting more like a self-styled pundit lately. Well, as long as Kasuga's doing fine, that's what really matters.
    34AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:33
Please, whatever happens, don't end 'Achikochi Audrey.'
    38AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:36
It's because he's got the morning drama (asadora) coming up.

    Re: #38
Isn't that Bakarhythm you're thinking of?
    41AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:40
I don't think duos even get panel-show lineup spots together anymore.
    48AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:46
    Meruru's really mellowed out.
    57AnonymousSep 20, 2026 16:00
    Re: #48
Somehow that's not the Meruru I remember from about three years ago.
    54AnonymousSep 20, 2026 15:56
He's probably getting serious about writing because he was stung by his novel getting trashed.
    64AnonymousSep 20, 2026 16:06
    Re: #54
That's not going to work out. If your debut novel flops — the one with the most time, motivation, and marketing strategy behind it — that's a bad sign.
    72AnonymousSep 20, 2026 16:37
Basically he's cutting back on TV work because he's making money online, right?
    73AnonymousSep 20, 2026 16:39
    Re: #72
The guy who calls people who comment on his social media 'gnats' is making money online?
    78AnonymousSep 20, 2026 16:45
    Re: #73
Apparently he writes essays on note (a Japanese blogging platform) and makes as much as 10 million yen a month from that alone.

    Re: #78
Huh. Haven't heard anything about Seiten's sales lately, but good for him if he's making money writing. If I pulled in that kind of monthly income, I wouldn't bother working anywhere else either lol

    Background and Points of Discussion

“School Kakumei!” is a long-running Sunday morning variety show on Nippon TV, also known for featuring members from Nogizaka46 and Hinatazaka46. This time, the only reason Wakabayashi himself gave for leaving was throat trouble, with no further details made public. Opinions on 5channel split between those accepting this explanation at face value and those who believe he’s shifting his focus toward his recent book and essay-writing on note; the latter view, however, is speculation based on past reporting and his social media behavior, and no evidence has been presented directly linking it to his departure. It’s also worth noting that comedians in their late 40s scaling back regular TV commitments isn’t unique to Wakabayashi — it’s described as a trend seen among other comedians of his generation as well.
