  • Giants Rout Dragons 14-1 — 5ch: “LOL They Even Got Booed on the Road”

In Central League action on September 19, the Yomiuri Giants routed the Chunichi Dragons 14-1. The Giants’ offense exploded for 15 hits and 14 runs from the early to middle innings, while starter Masahiro Tanaka picked up his 4th win of the season, allowing just 1 run over 7 strong innings. Dragons starter Nakanishi took the loss after surrendering 5 runs, once again exposing his shaky early-inning form. Since this was the Dragons’ final game of the season at the Tokyo Dome, manager Kazuki Inoue was hit with heavy booing from the crowd — a moment that became a hot topic on 5ch. Threads mixed criticism of Inoue’s in-game decisions, complaints about the home-plate umpire, and concern over Nakanishi’s future.

That's because Fujikawa kept throwing his back-of-the-rotation scrubs at the Dragons and didn't take them seriously.
The Dragons' winning record against the Tigers is basically thanks to Fujikawa.

The umpire was way too biased toward the Giants ("jumpire" — 5ch slang for a ref seen as favoring the Giants).
Every borderline pitch from Nakanishi got called a ball,
    and they wouldn't call Matsumoto's half-swing either.
    11AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:16

That was a dirty win for the Giants.
    22AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:19
Before the score blew wide open, the outfield calls were pretty "jumpire"-biased too —
bad ball calls turned at-bats into walks and put runners on,
half-swings went uncalled for more walks,
and then the big hits came right after that.
    26AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:19
They demolished the Tigers just recently and now this happens?
Sure, form, matchups, and lineups vary day to day, but getting beaten this badly is something else.

Background and key points of this discussion

The thread was dominated by complaints about manager Kazuki Inoue’s in-game decisions and the home-plate umpire’s calls. As one post put it, “LOL, ‘it’s the last Tokyo Dome game’ doesn’t mean you get to boo that hard on the road” — since this was the Dragons’ final game at the Tokyo Dome this season, the jeering aimed at the visiting bench seemed louder than usual. Chunichi has had an up-and-down season, including a recent series sweep of the first-place Tigers, and this lopsided loss led several posters to say the team’s playoff (Climate Series) hopes look all but dead — though it’s worth noting this is 5ch speculation, not something confirmed by the actual standings. Several posters also flagged starter Nakanishi’s shaky first innings, lamenting the gap between his current struggles and the Rookie of the Year buzz he had before the season began. On the winning side, Giants fans mostly praised Masahiro Tanaka’s gritty outing, with little criticism of the matchup itself.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Express+) thread “[Baseball] Central League: Giants 14-1 Dragons [9/19] — Giants win again, Tanaka goes 7 innings/1 run, offense racks up 15 hits/14 runs; Dragons drop another, Nakanishi allows 5.”

  • Giants Flip the Script on Dragons with Three Straight RBI Hits — 5ch Live Thread: ‘How Long Has It Been Since We Saw That?’

On September 19, 2026, a 5ch live thread following the Giants–Dragons game at Tokyo Dome lit up. Early on, a tense glove play had fans debating a pitcher’s reflexes — “Reaching out with your hand there was a mistake, that’s a grounder you have to trust the second baseman on and let go through” — but the lineup then flipped the game with three straight RBI hits. “How long has it been since we saw three consecutive RBI hits?” fans marveled, with some calling for starter Masahiro Tanaka to stay in the game, and a bit of banter with Tigers fans over the Giants having swept the Dragons in a three-game series that same week.

    Background and Talking Points

As its title “Giants Acting Manager 142” suggests, this thread is the 142nd installment of a live-commentary series where a new thread gets started as the game progresses. On 5ch’s baseball live-commentary board, it’s standard for a thread to fill up with replies and then spill over into a new one, at-bat by at-bat — so a high thread number is itself a sign of just how lively the discussion around a game was. In the thread, “Chunidora” refers to the Chunichi Dragons, “Chin” refers to the Hanshin Tigers, and “our team” refers to whichever club the poster is rooting for — common shorthand on the baseball board, and this kind of in-group slang shows up constantly whenever posters mention an opponent or another team. There was also talk of a “jinx” tying a particular player’s presence on the roster to the team’s wins and losses, but it’s worth noting this isn’t grounded in any actual cause and effect — it’s the kind of superstition-tinged storytelling baseball fans love to indulge in.

  • Chunichi Miss the Playoffs for a 13th Straight Year — 5ch: “NPB Needs to Fix This”

On September 19, 2026, a thread on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyō G board (a big general sports-chat forum) about the Yokohama–Chunichi “must-win showdown” blew up into a debate over the Central League’s basement race. The centerpiece was a chart showing Chunichi hasn’t made the Climax Series (CS, Japan’s version of the postseason) even once since 2013 — drawing comments like “NPB needs to fix this” about a team that still can’t qualify even though 3 of the league’s 6 teams make the playoffs. The talk also branched into draft-lottery luck and the state of the farm system’s young pitchers, going well beyond a simple standings discussion.

Color-wise it's really more like the Blue Jays or the Royals.
And hey, they won the World Series last year, and back in 2015 too.

    Background and Talking Points

The Climax Series (CS) is a postseason format introduced in 2007 that lets each league’s top three regular-season teams advance to a playoff. It’s meant to keep more games meaningful late into the pennant race, but as post #15 notes, gate and TV revenue from the CS mostly flows to the 1st- and 2nd-place teams, so lower-ranked clubs see little financial upside from the system itself. Per the timeline posted in the thread, Chunichi hasn’t reached the CS since their last league title in 2012 — and going 13 straight years without qualifying, in a format where half the league (3 of 6 teams) makes the cut, is a striking number. The thread split between two camps: one arguing the format itself is too lenient, the other that Chunichi is simply bad at roster-building and player development — a divide over whether to blame the system or the front office. Commenters also disagreed on whether Chunichi’s habit of landing high draft picks (a perk of finishing low) is a blessing or just proof of how deep the team’s problems run; the thread reached no consensus either way.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyō G) thread “[Breaking] Chunichi Dragons, Today’s Finally the Big Showdown wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww” (the string of “w”s is 5ch shorthand for laughter, like “lol” repeated).

  • Hiroshima Carp Face Mass Exodus as Morishita, Tokoda, Sakakura and Other Core Players Hit Free Agency

Core Hiroshima Carp players Morishita, Tokoda, and Sakakura have all become eligible for free agency, sparking discussion on 5ch about the possibility of several of them leaving for other teams at once. Under NPB’s FA system, signing an A- or B-ranked free agent requires the signing team to hand over compensation talent, so the debate has also turned to which clubs might actually make a move. Opinions in the thread were split between those blaming the team’s low salary levels and those saying the players are simply past their peak, with plenty of criticism aimed at front-office management as well. The thread also brought up Sakakura’s repeated controversial remarks and the team’s official social media posts.

    Background and Key Points

Under NPB’s free agency system, players are ranked A, B, or C based on the previous season’s performance, and signing an A-ranked free agent away from another team requires the signing club to provide compensation (returning part of its roster). Morishita, Tokoda, and Sakakura, the players at the center of this discussion, are believed to be ranked B or higher, which is why the thread’s “we want them, but it’s not worth the cost” reaction reflects this compensation system. The thread frames this as multiple players hitting free agency at once, but whether all three actually leave depends on their own decisions and negotiations — at this stage it remains speculation, not confirmed fact. Opinions split along two lines: some blame the team’s low salary levels, others argue the players are simply past their prime, with recurring criticism of front-office management (the operating style of the Matsuda family business that owns the club) as well. It’s also worth noting the discussion mixes in unrelated controversies — like Sakakura’s repeated comments blowing up online and the team’s official account’s AI-image mishap — which color perceptions of both the players and the front office.

  • Giants Walk It Off on Izumiguchi’s Two-Run Homer — Chunichi Starter Kanamaru Gutted by Last-Gasp Blast

In the September 18 Central League matchup, the Giants and Chunichi Dragons were locked in a scoreless pitchers’ duel through nine innings — until the Giants’ Izumiguchi delivered a dramatic walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, sealing a 2-0 win and snapping the Giants’ losing streak. Chunichi starter Yumeto Kanamaru had been grinding through a tough season, sitting at 5 wins, 10 losses, and a 2.72 ERA over 24 games coming into the start, but after surrendering the walk-off shot he was saddled with the ironic distinction of his first career complete game in a loss. On 5ch, reactions ranged from sympathy for Kanamaru to frustration with Chunichi’s weak run support and celebration of the Giants’ win.

    Background and Talking Points

Yumeto Kanamaru threw over 155 innings this season with a solid 2.72 ERA, yet ended up with a disappointing 5-11 record. What stood out in the thread was how posters kept their assessment of his individual pitching separate from their frustration with Chunichi’s weak offensive support — lines like “he joined the wrong team” weren’t knocks on his ability, but ironic jabs at how little run support he got. On the other hand, comments about a “narrow strike zone” reflect individual viewers’ subjective impressions and aren’t backed by any official record, so they’re worth taking with a grain of salt.

*This article was compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Sports News+) thread “[Baseball] Central League: Giants 2x-0 Dragons [9/18] — Giants’ Izumiguchi hits walk-off two-run homer! Chunichi’s Kanamaru left out to dry (Muengo).”

  • Tigers Grind Out 2-1 Win Over Carp for Second Straight — 5ch: ‘Two Wins Running With Fushimi Behind the Plate’

In Central League play on September 18, the Hanshin Tigers beat the Hiroshima Carp 2-1 to extend their winning streak. Starter Kotaro Otake worked seven scoreless innings, and back-to-back RBI hits from Teruaki Sato and Yusuke Oyama in the 4th gave the Tigers the lead. Kudo closed it out in the ninth. On 5ch’s live-game thread, posters praised Otake’s strong outing and voiced confidence in catcher Torai Fushimi, who has been holding down the position while the team’s regular catcher is out — though plenty also flagged the shaky defense after shortstop Seiya Kinoura dropped a fly ball, leaving opinion split.

    Re: #1
Yeah, it's likely Otake was getting hit because the opponents had read catcher Sakamoto's tendencies.
Stick with Fushimi tomorrow too — should be fine.

Kinoura's no good. Can't trust him out there if he's dropping fly balls like that.
    Motoyama should be the shortstop.

Maekawa chasing pitches out of the zone is a problem.
He needs to stop swinging at balls completely.

Sato needs to stop rushing and chasing pitches out of the zone.
If he stays calm and looks for strikes to hit, he'll naturally start hitting more.
Staying patient and laying off bad pitches, like Morishita and Oyama do, is what matters.

During the losing streak I was only checking final scores

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

What decided this game was Kotaro Otake’s pitching — 5ch posters praised his economical outing, holding Hiroshima scoreless over seven innings on roughly 70 pitches. Per the official record, the winning pitcher was Otake (6-9), the losing pitcher was Hiroshima’s Morishita (6-11), and the save went to Kudo (3-0, 10 SV). The thread was especially split over the starting-catcher question: some posters backed keeping Fushimi behind the plate in place of Sakamoto, while others argued the proven Sakamoto should be brought back before the Japan Series. Another sticking point was infield defense, with several posters criticizing Kinoura’s shaky handling of a fly ball at shortstop. That said, pitch-count claims like ‘around 70 pitches’ or ‘Maddux-caliber’ reflect posters’ impressions from following the game live, not confirmed official figures — worth keeping in mind.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Express+) thread “[Baseball] Central League: Tigers 2-1 Carp [9/18] — Tigers win again, Otake goes 7 scoreless, back-to-back RBI hits from Teruaki Sato and Oyama, Carp drop another.”

  • Baseball’s ‘Just Try It’ Bar Is Set Way Too High, Say 5ch Users

On 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (Anything Goes Live) board, a thread titled “Baseball’s ‘just try it’ barrier is way too high” drew 41 replies. Posters pointed out that you need a full set of gear (bat, ball, glove), that you can’t even field a proper game without enough players to cover every position, and that batted balls travel far enough to require a lot of open space. Others pushed back, noting that “aside from gym clothes, all the equipment is usually provided” and “you only need two people to play catch.” The discussion eventually expanded into comparisons with soccer and basketball, and even the historical question of why baseball became so entrenched in popularity during the Showa and Heisei eras.

    1AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:23
・A lot of gear needed — bat, ball, and enough gloves for everyone playing defense
・Cutting positions leaves the defense full of holes, so you need a big group
・Batted balls travel far, so you need a lot of open space

Joining a school club is clearly in the "go all-in with real commitment" category.
And a lot of Japanese baseball clubs have this vibe where even thinking about having fun before grinding through brutal practice is basically unthinkable.
So if you just want to casually try it out for fun, I think the barrier is genuinely high.

    15AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:33
    Re: #5
Japanese baseball still has huge spectator popularity thanks to its first-mover advantage.
But precisely because it's been so popular for so long, nobody really noticed the "high barrier to entry" problem, and now it's quietly landed in a crisis.

It's not that pro players are unaware of the shrinking player pool — they do run various initiatives.
But since most of them grew up in an environment where baseball was just naturally around from childhood, their solutions tend to lean toward things like running baseball clinics or building stadiums, which feels kind of narrow and has limited effect.
To actually grow the base of people who casually give it a try, you need an environment where it's easy to play on a whim, day-to-day.
    6AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:27

Sure, batting cages and playing catch have their own depth, but there's a difference between those being your *only* options versus discovering their appeal among many other choices.
Even if it's just amateurs messing around, actually experiencing something in an actual "game" format matters a lot.
Would just juggling a soccer ball or just shooting hoops be fun on its own? You'd still want an actual match, right?
    13AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:32
You might need gloves, but playing catch only takes two people, no?
    20AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:37
Batting's one thing, but you need players who can field at least reasonably well. Otherwise it's just dropped balls and wild throws everywhere, and it won't even look like a game.
    31AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:46
    Re: #20
    That's a big factor too.
Even if you make special rules like not counting balls or banning stolen bases, there's only so far that gets you.
By the way, there's a tradition in beginner games of sticking the weakest fielder in right field batting eighth (nicknamed "raipachi"), but personally I think it's better to put them in center and have both outfielders on either side fully cover for them.
Center's easier to see the ball from, and even if you can't catch flies, you can just aim to have it drop in front of you instead of sailing over your head.
There's still a risk of getting hit by the ball, though — it'd be nice if there was a ball that's a bit safer to get hit by.
Something a little closer to a real baseball than a rubber ball, but still safer, would be ideal.

If badminton or table tennis — sports with supposedly low barriers to entry — were actually growing in player numbers, that logic would track.
Also, if you're bringing up soccer and basketball as examples, don't those also need a fair number of people and space?
I'm a weirdo so I actually went through a phase of just doing shooting practice over and over in both soccer and basketball.
    34AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:49
    Re: #30
With soccer or basketball, it's easier to make something resembling a game even with a small number of people, and even if everyone's a total amateur, it somehow still works as a game — more so than baseball.
From a parent's perspective too, parks or gyms where kids can play soccer or basketball have a lower barrier to just go and do it, compared to places to play baseball or softball, so it's easier to let your kid do it as a hobby without joining a formal club.
    33AnonymousSep 18, 2026 12:47

    Re: #38
Baseball fields might look fairly plentiful at first glance, but most of them require advance booking, so they're not places you can just drop by and practice on a whim.
You basically never see the kind of scene where people naturally share out sections of a ball-friendly park among themselves.

So if you want pro players to come up with measures to stop the decline in participation, I'd want them to think about things like: casual shared practice spaces you can just show up to, opportunities for casual hobbyist meetups, inventing small-group formats of baseball, and developing safer equipment for kids.
Something called "Baseball5" was actually invented for this, but playing it barehanded seems a bit too extreme.

    Re: #41
It's genuinely true that the barrier is higher than other sports.
That's literally what's being pointed out here.
Sure, other sports also take some effort if you want perfect conditions, but nowhere near as much as baseball — baseball's *minimum* bar is just higher than the rest.
Whether you can even play a game, even a mini one, matters a lot.
Even official soccer matches only require 7 players to count as a game.

The reason "ball-kicking" and "ball-tossing" (aka soccer and basketball) are boring is that the players themselves aren't involved in scoring.

Soccer (lol) and basketball (lol): you score when the ball goes into the goal
→ Only the goal and the ball are actually involved

Baseball: players score by touching a base themselves
→ The players themselves are directly involved in scoring

Baseball and soccer are both sports where basically everyone started as a little kid, so the barrier to starting in middle or high school is probably high.

The people on this board running their mouths about "why doesn't anyone play baseball" are just using baseball as ammo to bait each other — none of you have the slightest intention of actually joining a pickup baseball game.

But what I really felt was how hard it is just to create the opportunity in the first place.
Gathering people with similar enthusiasm who are also easy to actually meet up with is genuinely difficult.
Probably even more so for kids.

On top of that, I really felt that whether or not a "game" format exists makes a huge difference to your motivation for playing catch or batting practice.
A game is also, in a way, an attempt to recreate for yourself the plays you normally watch pro players make.

Futsal gives you way more chances to actually touch the ball and you run a lot less, so it's more fun for amateurs just messing around casually.

Well, ever since the Meiji era baseball had this image as "the cutting-edge imported sport from the advanced nation of America," and it caught on with college students first, then spread to a wider range of generations.
I think the big factor is that it took root during an era when there weren't many entertainment options, there were plenty of places you were allowed to play baseball, and there were a lot of kids around.
    92AnonymousSep 18, 2026 13:20
That said, with just a soft colored ball and a bat you can play without even needing a glove.

If you think about it normally, the real question isn't "why is baseball's player base shrinking?" — it's "why did something this much of a hassle dominate for so long in the first place?"

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The declining number of participants in youth baseball and school baseball clubs in Japan is an area that various sports organizations’ published data and media reports have flagged as shrinking year after year, and this thread can be seen as digging into the background of that trend through the lens of “how high the barrier to entry is.” The debate split mainly into two camps. One side argued that baseball is structurally harder to get into, pointing to how you need a full set of equipment, a large open space, and a minimum number of fielders before it even resembles a real game. The other side saw that as just an excuse, arguing that the sport’s relative appeal has simply declined — with some, like poster #95, flipping the question around to ask “why did something this labor-intensive dominate for so long in the first place?” One point worth clarifying to avoid oversimplifying: while soccer is often described as “no equipment needed, easy to jump into,” there are real differences in the rules themselves — for instance, even official soccer matches only require a minimum of 7 players — so this isn’t purely a clash of attitudes, but also reflects differences in each sport’s formal rules and structure.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G) thread “[Sad News] Baseball, the “just give it a try” barrier is way too high.”

  • Dodgers Clinch 5th Straight Division Title — 13th in Last 14 Years, Even Without Ohtani

The Dodgers clinched their 5th consecutive NL West division title on the 17th (18th in Japan) with a lopsided road win over the Reds, backed by a barrage of runs and strong pitching. It’s their 13th division title in the past 14 years. Because the title came while Shohei Ohtani remains sidelined all season — having given up pitching entirely due to injury — commenters on 5channel’s live thread were split between those calling it “proof this team can win without Ohtani” and those firing back that “it’s because of Ohtani that this dynasty exists in the first place.”

On the 17th (18th Japan time), the Dodgers cruised to victory on the road against the Reds. Facing a magic number of just 1 to clinch the NL West, they won the game and secured their 5th straight division title.

Tucker, freshly bumped up to the No. 3 spot in the order, got things going in the first inning with a 2-run homer, his 16th of the season. In the second, a Freeman sacrifice fly to center and a Tucker RBI double tacked on two more runs. In the fourth, with the bases loaded and one out, Muncy ripped a 2-RBI double down the right-field line, and rookie DePaula followed with an RBI single to right to extend the lead further. In the ninth, Rojas — who has said this will be his final season as a player — added an insurance solo shot, his 4th of the year.

On the mound, starter Wrobleski was perfect over 3 innings on just 32 pitches, fulfilling his role as the starter on a scheduled bullpen day. Backed by the huge run support, the relief corps that followed held the lead, and the Dodgers overwhelmed the Reds on both sides of the ball to complete their 5th straight division title.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The Dodgers’ NL West title continues a run of success that predates Shohei Ohtani’s arrival in 2024, as the team had already piled up division titles throughout the 2010s. Because of this, opinions in the thread clashed over how much credit belongs to Ohtani — who has been unable to pitch at all this season due to injury — with some crediting the pitching staff, including Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and others pointing to the team’s underlying strength even without him. At the same time, some posters voiced concern over Ohtani’s insistence on playing through pain, while others expressed unease about heading into the playoffs without a clear closer — showing that even amid a division title, plenty of attention was paid to the challenges the team still faces.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Geisports Sokuho+) thread “[NL] Dodgers clinch 5th straight division title! Despite a string of injuries including Ohtani, it’s their 13th title in the last 14 years, cementing them as the NL West’s ‘invincible champions’“.

  • SoftBank clinches title No. 3 in a row, sweeping Orix 3-0 in their head-to-head series — 5ch: “A three-peat starting from year one as manager is incredible”

On September 17, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks beat Orix 7-1 to clinch their third straight Pacific League pennant. For Orix, it was a bitter way to see the title decided — swept 3-0 in the head-to-head series against the champions. On 5ch threads, users noted that the on-field celebration felt more subdued than in past years, and discussion turned to manager Hiroki Kokubo pulling off three consecutive league titles starting from his very first year in charge. Posters also recalled past managers who achieved a three-peat starting from year one, name-checking Seibu’s Watari Mori and Orix’s Hiroshi Nakajima, sparking some nostalgic trips through baseball history.

It's been obvious for a while now that it was just a matter of when they'd clinch, so the title itself wasn't a surprise
Plus this year there's a good chance they face Yokohama again, so nobody's thrilled about drawing the 3rd-place team as a "safe" matchup

Around here it's unrelated local companies that run the sales now, so other regions don't get anything
Back in the Daiei days there were sales nationwide — and the funniest part was that during the Japan Series they lost to Hanshin in, the store with the country's top championship-sale revenue was the one right next to Koshien Stadium, Hanshin's own home turf

We already know they're strong, so now I just want Kondo and Masaki to each hit 30 home runs

    Background and talking points

SoftBank’s pennant win on this day appears to have been all but decided well in advance in the Pacific League standings, which seems to be behind the repeated comments about the celebration feeling “muted” — it had the air of a game played out after the race was already settled. There is also precedent for a manager winning three straight league titles starting from his first year in charge: Seibu’s Watari Mori and Orix’s Hiroshi Nakajima (though some point out Nakajima’s run effectively started from his second year), and Kokubo’s three-peat is being discussed as the latest addition to that list. The thread also included comments pointing to gaps in team payroll and passing references to sign-stealing suspicions, though none of these came with concrete evidence, and this article does not treat them as established fact. On the muted celebrations, posters also noted a temperature difference between Fukuoka and other regions in how the title win was received — a good illustration of how differently pennant-clinching news lands depending on where you’re watching from.

  • Hanshin Crush Hiroshima 7-1 as Morishita Blasts His 34th Homer — 5ch: ‘The Tigers Are Fully Back lol’

In a night game on September 17, the Hanshin Tigers cruised to a 7-1 win over the Hiroshima Carp. Shota Morishita launched his league-leading 34th home run, a two-run shot, as the middle-order trio of Morishita, Teruaki Sato, and Yusuke Oyama combined to drive in all 7 runs in a show of offensive firepower. On 5ch’s live game thread, comments piled up like “The Tigers are fully back lol” and “Meanwhile my team is grinding its teeth watching the champion Tigers and the BayStars mash the ball…”. The same day also brought news that the Giants’ Shunsuke Urata had been pulled from the active roster with a torn ligament in his right elbow, drawing attention as a development that could affect both the late-season pennant race and the Rookie of the Year race.

    Background and Talking Points

The thread title “Giants Acting Manager 140” isn’t reporting a managerial change — it’s simply the running number of a recurring live-game thread. The phrase “my team” that shows up in the posts is thread-specific slang referring to whichever club a given poster supports; here it’s used to lament a struggling team while watching the red-hot Tigers and BayStars pile up runs. The removal of Shunsuke Urata from the Giants’ active roster over a torn ligament in his right elbow drew the thread’s attention because he was also seen as a leading Rookie of the Year candidate, making it relevant to both the Giants’ lineup construction and the award race. For Hanshin, the middle-order trio of Morishita, Teruaki Sato, and Oyama all performed well, and the post about being “one behind Sato Teruaki” refers to the two players’ race for home runs.
