  • New Yokohama Stadium to Cost ¥38 Billion — 5ch: “20,000 Seats Isn’t Nearly Enough”

On September 16, the City of Yokohama released a draft master plan to redevelop the aging Mitsuzawa Park. A new football stadium with a capacity of roughly 20,000 will be built on the site of the current athletics stadium, using a PFI (Private Finance Initiative) scheme at a total cost of ¥38 billion, with completion targeted for fiscal 2032. The existing NHK Spring Mitsuzawa Stadium lacks a roof and does not meet J.League facility standards; once the new stadium is complete, it will be converted into a facility mainly for public/community use. On 5ch, commenters raised points about the scale and cost — “it’s a great location within walking distance of Yokohama Station, yet 20,000 seats isn’t enough,” “if they’d built it sooner it would have been cheaper” — while others compared the plan to Kawasaki Frontale’s project to convert Todoroki into a football-only stadium, and debated how the Yokohama-based clubs would end up sharing the venue.

On the 16th, the City of Yokohama released its draft “Mitsuzawa Park Redevelopment Master Plan” to coincide with the City Council’s GREEN×EXPO Green Committee session.

The plan calls for redeveloping the aging Mitsuzawa Park, including building a new football stadium with a capacity of roughly 20,000 on the site of the current athletics stadium.

Facilities at Mitsuzawa Park have been aging badly, with the athletics stadium now 45 years old and NHK Spring Mitsuzawa Stadium over 60 years old. NHK Spring Mitsuzawa Stadium’s stands also lack a roof, meaning it fails to meet J.League stadium standards — another issue the redevelopment aims to address.

Seriously though, Mitsuzawa is the only football-capable stadium in Yokohama that can actually host fans
and there's barely a real athletics stadium either

Because of that, Mitsuzawa currently gets worked through 100-120 matches a year despite having natural grass, and there are still sports teams that can't even get access to it

This announcement is the city's formal plan, years in the making, to fix exactly that

    Background and Key Points

This plan is part of a broader redevelopment of Mitsuzawa Park as a whole, and it’s easy to overlook that the existing NHK Spring Mitsuzawa Stadium isn’t being torn down — it will remain standing as a public-use facility even after the new stadium is completed. Some thread commenters argued there’s “no reason to spend tax money on a new stadium,” but the plan’s actual aim is to separately address two distinct problems: replacing the aging athletics stadium (45 years old) and dealing with the existing football venue’s lack of a roof, which fails J.League standards — the two facilities will coexist with distinct roles. The ¥38 billion construction cost also looks steep next to Fukuda Denshi Arena (about ¥8 billion, opened 2005) or Panasonic Stadium Suita (about ¥14 billion, opened 2015), but rising material and labor costs have driven up public construction costs across the board in recent years, making simple comparisons difficult. Mitsuzawa Park’s hilly, uneven terrain also limits how much the site can be expanded, and the debate over capacity can’t really be separated from that constraint.

  • Anti-Prostitution Law to Crack Down on ‘Buyers’ Soliciting Too — 5ch: “It’ll Just Go Underground”

On September 17, an expert panel convened by the Ministry of Justice compiled a report on how to regulate prostitution, concluding that some form of regulation should be introduced for solicitation by buyers, which has until now carried no penalty. The current Anti-Prostitution Law only targets solicitation by sellers, leaving buyers’ solicitation effectively unregulated. Based on the report, the Ministry of Justice reportedly plans to consider submitting an amendment bill to the Diet. On 5ch, threads saw a mix of cautious opinions arguing that regulation would simply push the trade underground, and views suggesting that cutting off demand would eliminate sellers as well, along with concerns about gathering evidence during crackdowns and the risk of blackmail.

    106AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:56
    Re: #79
Waiting for customers on the seller's side is technically illegal and arrestable too.
But even though it's illegal on paper, arresting someone for "standing there a long time, getting approached by a man, negotiating, and going into a hotel" is a huge hassle.
Making the arrest happen the instant either party actually solicits the other is less of a hassle — like the old crackdowns on pink flyers (illegal prostitution ad flyers).
    175AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:22
I'm not shilling for organized crime or anything, but basically, if a woman wants to earn money selling her body, I think she should work at a soapland or other sex establishment instead of standing on the street.
For her own safety too — male staff there will sort out any trouble, so isn't that better?
These days there are even shops that market themselves around having, let's say, seriously unattractive women, so there's a place for everyone.

    Re: #175
    Mostly agree.

    Working independently is obviously dangerous,
and some argue the state should manage it, but given how badly Japan's system skims off the top (middlemen taking cuts) these days, it's obvious that wouldn't work.

Having the yakuza manage it is the least-bad option.
Problem customers get thrown out, and they even do STI testing.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Nearly 70 years since it was enacted, the Anti-Prostitution Law has long been criticized for a structure that treats women more as targets of crackdowns than as people to be protected. What’s new about this report is that it proposes introducing regulation on “buyer” solicitation, which until now carried no penalty at all. Under the current law, only sellers’ solicitation is subject to enforcement, leaving buyers effectively free to act with impunity. In the thread, cautious voices arguing that punishing only buyers would simply drive the trade underground clashed with more optimistic views holding that cutting off demand would make supply disappear too. On the practical side of enforcement, some worried that merely being approached could be exploited as material for blackmail. It’s worth noting — since this point is easy to misunderstand — that whether to abolish penalties for sellers altogether is being discussed in a separate framework and was not decided by this report. The report itself is only at the stage of encouraging consideration of an amendment bill; the legal revision itself has not been finalized.

In the thread, opinions split — turning into a bit of a sarcastic back-and-forth — over whether Seibu’s brief push to close the gap on SoftBank to 5 games really deserved to be called a ‘furious comeback.’ Also, SoftBank’s magic number first appeared on August 6, more than a month before the September 17 championship reports, so the impression that they ‘blew through it in a flash’ isn’t quite accurate. Another topic was the large number of SoftBank fans who traveled from their home base in Fukuoka to the game venue at Kyocera Dome (Osaka) — this comes down to Fukuoka and Osaka being close by domestic-travel standards, under an hour by plane or about three hours by shinkansen. Note that exchanges about Hanshin’s interleague record against top Pacific League teams included posts making sweeping generalizations about specific teams and personal insults, so those replies have been excluded from this article.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G) thread “[Good News] SoftBank’s championship looks set to be decided today.”

  • Universities with low entrance-exam scores but strong local reputations spark discussion on 5ch: “Hakuoh University,” “Nihon University’s Faculty of Engineering,” and more

On 5ch’s “Live Everything G” board, a thread was started listing universities that don’t have high hensachi (the standardized deviation scores used to rank Japanese schools) but are known locally for their reputation and strong job placement. Starting with Hakuoh University in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, and Nihon University’s Faculty of Engineering in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, posters introduced one university after another from the Kita-Kanto, Tohoku, and Hokuriku regions, including International University of Health and Welfare, University of Aizu, and Kanazawa Institute of Technology. Partway through, the thread turned into a ranking debate over former Imperial University-tier schools like Tohoku University and Hiroshima University, with opinions split on whether Hiroshima University counts as “quasi-former-Imperial” or ranks below Chiba University.

    Re: #1

    ・Hakuoh University (Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture)

Hensachi isn't high, but it's fairly strong for finding jobs within Tochigi Prefecture.
Also, a lot of schoolteachers in Tochigi are graduates of this place.

Plus, it's right in front of Oyama Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen, so the location's pretty good too.
    4AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:30

・Nihon University Faculty of Engineering (Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture)

Maybe because it's out in the regions instead of the Tokyo metro area, its hensachi is surprisingly low for a "Nitto-Komasen" school (Nihon, Toyo, Komazawa, Senshu — a well-known tier of mid-level Tokyo-area private universities). (For reference, the School of Science and Technology, which has a higher hensachi, is based in the Tokyo area.)
That said, it seems to be pretty strong for job hunting, probably riding on the Nihon University brand name.

The downsides are that the coursework is tough and it's hard to graduate (the dropout rate is high too), and the location isn't great (it's far from Koriyama Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen)…

Also, Nihon University Tohoku High School is attached to the campus!

    Re: #4
A lot of people get into Nichidai Engineering (Koriyama) on recommendation from technical high schools, but those students tend to have a high rate of repeating a year.
Even though the hensachi isn't high, the level of math and physics is genuinely high, so you won't graduate without actually studying.

To begin with, technical high schools don't cover much math and the like, unlike the science track at regular high schools… (honestly, they're iffy even next to the humanities track at regular high schools).
    114AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:51
    Re: #4
By the way, quite a few students at Nichidai Engineering actually come from Tochigi Prefecture (Kita-Kanto) too.
    6AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:31

・International University of Health and Welfare (Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture)

It's fairly tough to graduate from, but job placement within the prefecture is extremely strong. (There's even a rumor it beats the local national university, Utsunomiya University.)
That said, getting into the Pharmacy, Nursing, and Radiological Sciences departments is fairly difficult too.
Also, it's far from Nishi-Nasuno Station (JR Utsunomiya Line) and Nasushiobara Station (Tohoku Shinkansen), so the location isn't exactly great to put it kindly…

*By the way, the School of Medicine is actually located in Narita, Chiba Prefecture.

Actually, the School of Science and Engineering and the Department of Regional Economics have their campus in Utsunomiya (formerly Toyosato Village, Kawachi District).
    9AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:32

・Takasaki University of Health and Welfare (Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture)

It has departments in Pharmacy, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, Medical Informatics, Social Welfare, and more.
They also recently added a Faculty of Agriculture.
    10AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:32

・Tohoku Gakuin University (Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture)

Its reputation in the Tokyo metro area is so-so, but (aside from the medical-related schools and Nichidai Engineering) it's the best-regarded private university in the Tohoku region.

By the way, voice actor Koichi Yamadera is an alum!

A small public university, but reportedly a big name in the field of information science/IT.
    14AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:34

    ・Fukushima University

Its hensachi is on the lower side even among regional national universities, but thanks to its roots as a former commercial college, job placement (especially out of the Faculty of Economics) is surprisingly strong.
I actually know someone who graduated from there and now works as an SE (systems engineer) at a top-tier company in the Tokyo metro area.
    15AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:34

・Kanazawa Institute of Technology (Nonoichi, Ishikawa Prefecture)

Its hensachi isn't exactly high to put it kindly, but job placement is apparently quite good given that.
That said, some people say they regret enrolling once they're actually in… (the coursework is tough and it's hard to graduate).
    16AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:34

・Keio University, Tsuruoka Town Campus (Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture)

Keio University is Japan's strongest private university, but it actually has a graduate-school campus out in the Shonai region too.
The Institute for Advanced Biosciences is based there.

    Re: #16

・Tohoku University of Community Service and Science (Yamagata Prefecture)

A private university in the Shonai region. But it's actually funded by the various municipalities of Shonai, so it's basically half-public.
Also, it's actually a sister school of Keio University. (And Tsuruoka also hosts a graduate campus of Keio's Science and Engineering department.)
    17AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:34
Let me throw in a curveball here!

    ・Tohoku University (Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture)

Its hensachi isn't as high as the former Imperial universities in the three major metro areas (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya) or Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology), but its reputation and research level in the sciences — especially engineering — are genuinely high.

The humanities side, though, isn't exactly strong to put it kindly…
It's not on a level where it can look down on the other regional former Imperial universities (Hokkaido, Kyushu), and it loses to Waseda and Keio as a matter of course.
Honestly, these days it's questionable whether it can even beat Sophia or the GMARCH schools (Gakushuin, Meiji, Aoyama Gakuin, Rikkyo, Chuo, Hosei)…

By the way, Tohoku University isn't even the top humanities school in the Tohoku region.
That's because Akita Prefecture has Akita International University (AIU).

    Re: #17

Tohoku University's sciences (especially engineering) are legitimately impressive
*Though its medical/dental/pharmacy programs lose out to Kyushu University and Nagoya University (though Nagoya doesn't even have pharmacy or dentistry schools)

Meanwhile, Tohoku University's humanities side isn't as strong.
The Faculty of Letters in particular loses out in hensachi even to Hokkaido University (which has a strong image as the weakest former Imperial university)
*Though Tohoku University requires math on the second-stage exam even for the Faculty of Letters, while Hokkaido University lets you compete with history/geography instead
    19AnonymousSep 17, 2026 19:35
    Re: #17

By the way, Akita International University (AIU) is an up-and-coming public university in Akita Prefecture.
Its English proficiency is reportedly top-level within Japan.
These days there's even talk that it outranks not just Tohoku University's humanities programs (Sendai, Miyagi) but even Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

For a school that isn't in one of the three major metro areas and doesn't have a long history, that's an impressive showing 👍

    ・Hiroshima University (Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture)

It's not a former Imperial university, but since it's positioned as the flagship school of the Chugoku region, it sometimes gets treated as quasi-Imperial-tier depending on the context.
Historically, it's actually a former University of Literature and Science, putting it on the same footing as Tsukuba University (formerly Tokyo University of Education).

That said, in the medical/dental/pharmacy fields alone, Okayama University — one of the old Six Medical Colleges — clearly outranks it.

It's only a bit higher than Kanazawa University (the Hokuriku flagship) or Kumamoto University.

Background and key points of this discussion

“Former Imperial universities” (kyu-teikoku daigaku) refers to the seven universities founded before World War II in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, Tohoku, Hokkaido, and Kyushu, and debates over their ranking are a perennial topic on 5ch’s academic-background boards. Hiroshima University and Tsukuba University (formerly Tokyo University of Education) come from a separate historical lineage as former “Universities of Literature and Science,” so they aren’t technically former Imperial universities, but their research standing sometimes earns them comparable treatment. That said, hensachi and job-placement strength don’t always line up. Schools like International University of Health and Welfare and Nihon University’s Faculty of Engineering show that universities located away from major cities can still be strong on employment thanks to licensing-focused programs and ties with local employers — a point raised repeatedly in the thread. Note that the hensachi rankings and evaluations in the thread reflect individual posters’ personal impressions, not official statistics or rankings.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Live Everything G) thread “[Academic Background] Big 3: Universities with Low Hensachi but Good Local Reputations — “Hakuoh University,” “Nihon University’s Faculty of Engineering”.”

  • Face-Hiding Call App “POPOPO” Shuts Down After Just Six Months — 5ch Asks: “Isn’t That Just… a Phone Call?”

“POPOPO,” a 3D avatar calling service fully funded by Nobuo Kawakami and featuring Hideaki Anno, GACKT, and Hiroyuki Nishimura (Hiroyuki) as board members, has shut down just six months after its March launch. The service was marketed on the appeal of letting users talk without showing their face or appearance on camera, but on 5ch, commenters kept raising the basic question of “isn’t that just a phone call?” and pointed out that despite running ads at Shibuya and Shinjuku stations, the service never really gained name recognition. The gap between the star-studded management lineup and the service’s short life also became a talking point.

POPOPO, fully funded by Nobuo Kawakami, ended its “POPOPO” communication service on September 17. That puts its run at roughly six months after its March launch.

POPOPO was a smartphone service that let users make calls through 3D avatars. One of its selling points was that users could talk without showing their own face or appearance on camera.

Besides Kawakami, the operating company’s board of directors included Hideaki Anno, GACKT, and Hiroyuki Nishimura (Hiroyuki).

(;゜Д゜) The day has finally come where you can talk to Shinji's dad…!? (referencing Gendo Ikari from Evangelion, directed by Anno)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

POPOPO was a domestically developed service built around letting users make calls through 3D avatars without showing their face or appearance. It launched in March 2026, with ads at Shibuya and Shinjuku stations featuring Kuruma Takahira of comedy duo Reiwa Roman. Even so, it shut down after just six months, and one thing that stood out in the thread was how often commenters raised the basic question of what a “call with the camera off” actually offers over existing phone calls, remote meetings, or voice-based social apps. At the same time, the gap between the star-studded management team — Nobuo Kawakami, Hideaki Anno, GACKT, and Hiroyuki — and the service’s actual name recognition and adoption also became a point of discussion. Posts came both from people who remembered seeing the ads and from people who only learned the service existed when its shutdown was reported, suggesting that despite the scale of the marketing push, it may never have truly caught on.

Background and key points of the debate

“M-line Special” is a Hello! Project unit project spanning multiple groups. As mentioned in reply #4, the autumn tour is indeed scheduled for October 11 and November 7 at Shinjuku ReNY and November 1 at Kashiwa PALOOZA, with second-round advance ticket sales opening at 18:00 on September 17. What divided the thread was how to interpret the reason Fukumura Seira and the other member were shown in tears. Some took the cynical view that she was “just out of shape from a long stretch of solo work,” while others defended her, arguing that “life outside Tsubaki Factory, where she was more sheltered, is simply tougher” — and some posters even floated the idea that the video was edited for documentary-style effect. The other sticking point was the venue format: some fans said they’d skip the shows since livehouses are mostly standing-room, while others welcomed the chance to get up close and wave their penlights. Worth noting: the video itself never explains the reason for the tears, so specifics like poor physical condition or brutal choreography remain speculation within the thread.

  • Criticism Erupts Over Japan’s Container Housing — Korean Association Calls It “Worst Ever,” 5ch Says “Can’t Be Helped, Construction Costs Went Through the Roof”

Criticism has emerged over the wooden container-type lodging where thousands of athletes will stay during the Asian Games, set to open on the 19th in Aichi and Nagoya. Jung Jae-yoon, vice president of the Korean Basketball Association, told AFP the accommodations are “the worst ever,” pointing to the problem of athletes taller than two meters being unable to stretch their legs out on the beds. On 5ch, while some noted that the Games had originally planned to build an athletes’ village but abandoned it for container housing due to soaring costs, others pointed out that Western outlets like the BBC and CNN were actually harsher on Japan than Korea was — turning the thread into more than just a simple pile-on.

Ahead of the 20th Asian Games — one of Asia’s largest sporting events — opening on the 19th in Aichi Prefecture, criticism has erupted over the wooden container-type lodging where thousands of athletes will be staying.

Jung Jae-yoon, vice president of the Korean Basketball Association, told AFP that the accommodations for this Games are “the worst ever.”

“Athletes over two meters tall can’t even stretch their legs out on the bed. It’s unreasonable.”

Come on, don't go sticking your nose into the Asian Games too lol

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The backdrop to this lodging controversy is that the athletes’ village originally planned for the Games was abandoned due to soaring construction costs, leading to a switch to prefab container-type housing (as >>97 points out, Nikkei also reported the weak yen, labor shortages, and rising material costs as factors). The thread shows both a view dismissing this as just “Korea nitpicking” and the counterpoint that “Western outlets like the BBC and CNN are criticizing it even more harshly” (>>129) — making clear this isn’t simply an anti-Korea sentiment issue, but an operational problem being flagged internationally as well. Some posts also conflated this with the “cardboard bed” story from the Beijing Olympics, but it’s worth noting that’s an anecdote from a completely different Games and isn’t directly related to this container housing. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the Asian Games carry Olympic-level weight for Korean athletes, since a gold medal comes with exemption from military service — which helps explain the intensity of the criticism.

  • Racing Game GOAT Debate Rages On — Even 5ch Can’t Agree

The simple question “What’s the greatest racing game ever made?” failed to reach a consensus in a 5ch thread. Candidates ranged from realism-focused titles like Gran Turismo 7, iRacing, and Forza, to arcade classics like Ridge Racer and OutRun, fantasy-flavored entries like F-Zero and Racing Lagoon, and even the party game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The disagreement comes down to the fact that racing games are structurally bound to the “time attack” format, and what counts as “the best” shifts entirely depending on what you’re measuring — realistic handling, the thrill of head-to-head racing, worldbuilding, or just so-bad-it’s-good fun.

    Re: #95
Apparently it's some anniversary thing — four years in and they're still adding courses
They keep adding cars too, they're really putting in the work

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Racing games broadly split into four camps: “sim” titles that faithfully reproduce real car handling (GT7, iRacing, Forza); “fantasy” titles built around course design and worldbuilding (F-Zero, Racing Lagoon, Shutokou Battle 0); “party” titles chasing the thrill of competitive play (Mario Kart); and “arcade” titles that preserve that classic arcade feel (Ridge Racer, OutRun). The thread’s failure to settle on one “greatest of all time” isn’t really about which game is better made — it reflects the fact that these genres are being judged by completely different criteria to begin with. As one poster pointed out, “it’s been four years and they’re still adding courses” — GT7 keeps getting new tracks and cars long after launch, which as a live-service racing title makes it a moving target that resists a fixed verdict. Meanwhile, the recurring praise for older titles like Ridge Racer and OutRun points to an appeal that has nothing to do with driving precision — the pure rush of a time attack, the soundtrack, and so on.

  • Hello! Project’s 2026 Buzzword Awards: Nominations Pile Up — 5ch’s Take: ‘Hikaru Genji’

A thread was started on 5ch’s Hello! Project board inviting posters to nominate entries for the “2026 Buzzword Awards.” Modeled after Japan’s real-world New Word/Buzzword Awards, this has become an annual tradition where the board’s regulars pool together the words and memes that defined the Hello! Project scene over the year. Nominations ranged from baffling insider jokes like “Gatling Zero” and “Nakayamanjaro,” to the incident where Hana Gotou’s teaser for a graduation announcement was overshadowed when Rin Hashisako’s own graduation was announced the very next day, to the graduation announcements of Morning Musume.’s Makino and Oda. At the same time, some posters complained that “nothing really happened this year, so it’s kind of boring,” while others lamented the rampant use of “ankasu” — slang for posts that stir up conflict — making for a thread that mixed genuine excitement with a sense of stagnation.

Opinions in the thread were split between those who felt “not much happened this year” and those who pointed to the rampant use of “ankasu,” a slang term for posters who stir up conflict, as the defining feature of the year — the latter being 5ch-specific insider jargon that’s hard for general readers to follow. The thread also brought up how Rin Hashisako’s graduation was announced the day after Hana Gotou teased an announcement of her own, as well as the graduation announcements of several Morning Musume. members, though the posts alone don’t clarify the official timing or background of each announcement. It’s worth noting that most of the nominations consist of specific memes and insider references, many of which would be hard for a first-time reader to parse.

  • Power Harassment Rampant at Sendai Meat Wholesaler? 11 Employees Quit After Boss Says ‘Don’t Let the Cattle Die’

At “Sendai Central Meat Wholesale Market,” the meat wholesaling operator based in the city-run Sendai Municipal Central Wholesale Market, an employee working at the cattle holding pen during the brutal heat of July 2025 was reportedly told by the company president, “I don’t care what happens to you guys. Just make sure the heat doesn’t kill the cattle.” That remark is said to have triggered a wave of resignations, with 11 employees driven to quit since October 2025. On 5ch, opinions split between “prioritizing the cattle is just common business sense” and “that’s a dehumanizing thing to say — he’s unfit to run a company,” sparking a broader debate over whether cattle or employees should come first.

It has come to light that more than 10 employees were driven to resign after suffering power harassment from the president at a meat wholesaling company operating within the city-run Sendai Municipal Central Wholesale Market.

The wave of resignations tied to alleged harassment occurred at “Sendai Central Meat Wholesale Market,” a meat wholesaler located in Miyagino Ward, Sendai, within the city-run market. According to those familiar with the matter, abusive treatment of multiple employees by the president had become routine at the company. In July 2025, during a spell of severe heat, an employee working at the cattle holding pen was reportedly subjected to verbal abuse from the president, including the remark: “I don’t care what happens to you guys. Just make sure the heat doesn’t kill the cattle.”

As a result of this alleged harassment, 11 employees at the company have been driven to resign since October 2025.

    This counts as harassment?
Sounds like standard company philosophy to me.

If you're raising cattle, of course the cattle matter more than people — that's just how it is.
The problem is the relationship between him and the workers was bad enough that it felt like harassment.
But still, if you're raising cattle, you'd better prioritize the cattle.

    Well, whoever quit, quit.

There are plenty of foreign workers to replace them.
    51AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:49
Isn't livestock farming basically the harshest job out there?
    Working in that overwhelming stench…
    59AnonymousSep 17, 2026 20:51
    Is this really harassment?
Isn't this just him stating the obvious?

    Re: #59
It's not "the obvious" — the point is that managing the heat is literally your job as the boss.
You can't beat the heat through sheer willpower.

    Re: #59
He might lack the imagination to realize that someone who's just been told "you don't matter" isn't exactly going to bust their butt keeping the cattle alive.

Your story means nothing to me
You're not even on my radar
    you are not…

I've always wanted to say that

    Go for it.
What happens after is on you though.

We are but slaves to the cattle.

It just means "take care of the merchandise." That's basic professional ethics.

Also, there's the Animal Welfare Act to consider.
If you can't manage the animals properly, changing careers might be the only option.
    139AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:07
"You guys don't matter" — the fact he had to throw in that extra line shows he's just not cut out to be a boss, lol.
The cattle not dying is a pretty big deal, isn't it?
He could've just said "keep the cows comfortable" and left it at that.

    Exactly.
He's the kind of garbage human who should never be put in a management role.
    148AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:10
If the cattle die, the business is done too, so I get why cattle come first.

Subjecting your own employees to psychological abuse straight-up disqualifies you as a business owner.
    161AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:14
    Re: #158
It's just a fact though — if the cattle die, there's nothing to be done.
    168AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:17
    Re: #161
    That's not a fact.
A human life outweighs the whole planet.
Who cares if some cattle die —
they're getting slaughtered to feed you anyway.
    163AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:15
    This is awful.
Being told something like that would leave me fuming right before bed.
    171AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:17
    Re: #163
No point getting fumed up about it.
If the cattle die, your job disappears with them.
So keeping the cattle alive and healthy being the top priority just makes sense to me.

    Re: #171
Doesn't matter if the cattle live if you drop dead yourself.
Oh, how noble, sacrificing yourself like that?
    170AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:17
"Since October 2025, 11 employees have reportedly been driven to resign."
That pace is an absolute disaster.

Maybe it's just because I've got a glass jaw (lit. "tofu mentality"), but I'd quit a place like this.

    "Boss… I see."
    "I'm sorry… I'll be taking my leave."
    174AnonymousSep 17, 2026 21:18
Forget the people — what happened to the cow?

Somehow saying it in Osaka dialect makes it forgivable.
That's got some real warmth to it.

Background and Key Points of This Story

The Sendai Municipal Central Wholesale Market is a city-run facility, but the actual meat wholesaling business is carried out by private companies operating within the market — and “Sendai Central Meat Wholesale Market,” the company at the center of this controversy, is one of them. Under Japan’s legal definition of power harassment (per the Act on Comprehensive Promotion of Labor Measures), conduct that exceeds what’s necessary for business purposes, backed by a position of authority, and that harms the work environment can qualify — even work-related instructions can count if delivered repeatedly in dehumanizing language. On the thread, opinions split between defenders arguing that “taking measures to keep the cattle from dying is simply a reasonable business order” and critics countering that “the way it was phrased is itself dehumanizing and amounts to an abdication of managerial responsibility.” The fact that 11 employees quit within roughly half a year suggests sustained pressure rather than a single outburst — a situation that can’t be dismissed as either a matter of animal-welfare compliance or a matter of workers’ dignity alone, but likely both.
