  • MBS’s ‘Yantan’ Recording Studio Set to Relocate — 5ch Reacts: ‘The Dressing Room Had Amazing Sunlight’

Sakurai Rio, personality on MBS Radio’s ‘Young Town Saturday,’ revealed in a blog post ahead of the September 19 broadcast that “the Yantan studio is going to change.” Her post, reflecting on the wistfulness of leaving a studio she’d visited for over two years, drew reactions in the 5ch live-thread as well. This episode featured Tsubaki Factory’s Akiyama Mao as a guest, and talk also turned to the fall programming shake-up — including word that the “Ero Corner” segment will return souped-up in October, and that Novel Core will take over the slot from Ihara Rikka.

Background and key points of this discussion

According to an article shared within the thread, MBS Radio is planning a major overhaul of the programming around ‘Young Town’ in its October schedule shake-up: Novel Core will take over the Friday personality slot from Ihara Rikka, and a new show, ‘Young Town A,’ will launch. The studio relocation discussed in this thread appears, timing-wise, to be tied to this same fall reshuffle. That said, the thread doesn’t reveal the detailed reasons for the move or the location of the new studio — Sakurai Rio’s blog post itself only goes as far as saying the ‘vibe might change a bit.’ It’s worth reading carefully so as not to conflate the two: the programming-overhaul news and Sakurai’s personal note about the studio move come from separate sources.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello Project) thread “■ Sakurai Rio, Yugeta Shukoto, Guest: Akiyama Mao ■ MBS Radio (Osaka 1179kHz) ‘MBS Young Town Saturday’ ■ 22:15–23:45 ■“.

  • Sergeant in His 20s Disciplined for ‘Reverse Power Harassment’ After Publicly Calling Out Superior’s Mistake

A freedom-of-information request has revealed that a sergeant in his 20s, working in the criminal investigations division of a police station in Hyogo Prefecture’s Tajima region, was hit with a formal warning from his station chief after being found guilty of “reverse power harassment” against his direct superior, an assistant inspector in his 30s. The sergeant had repeatedly engaged in intimidating behavior, including publicly criticizing the assistant inspector in front of other officers with remarks like “why hasn’t that been done?” The case came to light after the assistant inspector himself requested a transfer. Three male officers were also disciplined — one for badmouthing the assistant inspector after his transfer, and others for making disparaging remarks about a female assistant inspector in her 40s who was working reduced hours. On 5channel, the story sparked debate: some questioned whether this stretches the usual definition of power harassment (which normally requires the harasser to hold the position of authority), others argued that public criticism itself was the real problem, and still others chalked it up to the attitude of today’s younger generation.

A freedom-of-information request to the Hyogo Prefectural Police has revealed that in August, the department issued a formal warning from the station chief to a male sergeant in his 20s for repeatedly engaging in “reverse power harassment” against his male superior, an assistant inspector in his 30s.

According to the department’s inspector general’s office, the sergeant, who works in the criminal investigations division of a police station in the Tajima region, repeatedly engaged in intimidating behavior toward his direct superior between around August of last year and May of this year — including publicly pointing out mistakes in front of other officers with comments like “why hasn’t that been done?” The matter came to light when the assistant inspector himself requested a transfer to a different post.

The department also issued formal warnings to three other male officers, including another sergeant, for badmouthing the transferred assistant inspector with remarks such as “I won’t forgive him.” The same three officers also made inappropriate comments about a female assistant inspector in her 40s who was working reduced hours, saying things like “she takes off even when we’re busy” while she wasn’t present.

    Exactly this.
It's a product of the education system.
Schools let students talk back to teachers casually these days, so of course it ends up like this.
And then teachers address students with "-san."

    187AnonymousSep 19, 2026 23:06
    Re: #180
So he's just a foolish subordinate, then.
A guy like this would get disciplined wherever he went.

Background and key points of this story

Under Japan’s Act on Comprehensive Promotion of Labor Measures, one of the requirements for power harassment is behavior that leverages “a position of relative advantage” — it isn’t determined solely by formal rank. In this case, even though the sergeant was technically the subordinate, what drew scrutiny was the manner of his repeated public criticism, which is what fueled the thread’s debate over whether this stretches the standard definition of power harassment. It’s also worth noting — something the headline alone doesn’t convey — that the discipline wasn’t limited to the sergeant himself; it also extended to three male officers who badmouthed the transferred assistant inspector and made inappropriate remarks about a female assistant inspector on reduced working hours. In a police organization known for its strict hierarchy, the fact that the manner of the criticism itself became grounds for discipline is a point that echoes how harassment policies play out at ordinary companies too.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5channel (News Express+) thread “[Hyogo Prefectural Police] “Why hasn’t that been done?” — Sergeant in His 20s Disciplined for “Reverse Power Harassment” After Publicly Calling Out Superior’s Mistake.”

  • Zion Suzuki Fires Off Save After Save as Aston Villa Claim First Premier League Win of the Season — 5ch: ‘The Guy’s a Neo-Pirlo’

Aston Villa, who had managed just one draw and three losses to open the season, rode a string of brilliant saves from Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to beat Tottenham 3-2 away from home and pick up their first win of the campaign. Tottenham themselves came into the match winless in five, and although Villa’s defense nearly caved in the first half, Suzuki bailed them out with several superb stops. Villa conceded twice late on due to defensive mistakes but held on for the win, and on 5ch, praise for Suzuki’s performance mixed with pointed criticism of both sides’ shaky defending.

Spurs winless in five to open the season

In Matchday 5 of the Premier League, played locally on September 19, 19th-placed Aston Villa — home to Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki — traveled to face 17th-placed Tottenham.

Villa, without a win so far this season (one draw, three losses), fell into trouble just 11 minutes in with Suzuki starting in goal. Tonali broke through on the right and squared the ball back for Savio to shoot, but Suzuki blocked it. Savinho pounced on the rebound and fired again, only for the Japanese keeper to parry it away with one hand.

    Way too much squad turnover.
It's a bad fit with De Zerbi, a manager who wants to install a tactically complex system with a lot to learn.
They should've kept last season's core unit intact while also building in ways to play outside De Zerbi's preferred system,
just to get through this season.
If they swap in 3-4 new players each year from here, I think they'll be strong again in a few years.

Constantly chopping and changing managers and players is the worst move you can make.

Honestly, that's exactly the vibe lol

    Background and Talking Points

Aston Villa had struggled to just one draw and three losses to open the season, making this their first win of the campaign. Tottenham, for their part, had also gone five matches without a win, with both clubs struggling to get their new setups — including De Zerbi’s new regime — off the ground. On the thread, opinions split between those pointing out the fragility of both defenses over “a scoreless first half thanks to Suzuki’s saves” and “two late goals from teammates’ mistakes,” and those crediting Suzuki with single-handedly holding together a match that was threatening to fall apart. The nickname “Neo-Pirlo” refers to Suzuki’s passing sense — building attacks with pinpoint long balls despite being a goalkeeper — and the buzz around his attacking presence, not just his defensive contributions, is something the scoreline alone doesn’t convey.

  • Former Manzai Comedian Nakata Botan Dies at 78 — Battled Lung Cancer Since Effectively Retiring in 2023

Yahoo News broke the story on the night of September 19, 2026 that Botan, one half of the comedy duo Nakata Kaus-Botan, had died at age 78. According to reports, he had been fighting lung cancer and had effectively been retired since 2023. On 5ch, alongside shock at the news, posters reminisced about Botan’s 1988 arrest on gambling charges in Fujiidera, Osaka Prefecture, the “debt jokes” that defined his act for decades, and stories about his relationship with comedy legend Akashiya Sanma.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Nakata Kaus-Botan was a Kamigata (Osaka-style) manzai duo formed in 1966, with Botan serving for decades as the tsukkomi (straight man) of the pair in Osaka’s comedy world. He had a past arrest on gambling charges from 1988, which some have linked to a “yakuza” image, but the actual charge was for participating as a customer in a gambling session run by an organized crime group — he was never a gang member himself. The thread was split between the view that “back then it wasn’t unusual to frequent gambling dens” and the view that “ordinary people just didn’t do that,” reflecting differing perceptions of how close the entertainment world and the underworld once were. His decades of debt-themed comedy and the stories about his relationship with Akashiya Sanma were widely known parts of his public image, and his death prompted many posters to revisit that persona.

Context and Key Points of This Discussion

“IRC” is a hybrid event pairing idols with a fashion show, apparently structured so runway appearances and live performance segments alternate. What sparked discussion this time was the requirement to register through a dedicated app just to watch, with complaints in the thread like “stop making us register for every little thing” sitting right alongside accounts like “all I had to do was link my Google account” — even the posters in the thread don’t agree on how much of a hassle it actually is. The comment “your info might go overseas, but don’t worry about it” touches on how the registration data is handled, but no source was cited to back it up, so it’s more reasonable to read it as a joke poking at that anxiety than as a statement of fact. Likewise, the claim that “there’s no archive” can’t be confirmed from any primary source, and the number of posts banking on a fallback plan (waiting for it to surface on YouTube or elsewhere later) in case they missed the live broadcast suggests the event’s official streaming policy hasn’t been fully communicated to fans.

  • Wolverine’s Tracking Gas Gets an Update — Fans Say It’s ‘Thicker’ Now

In the PS5 title “Wolverine,” the “gas” effect that shows the direction of a tracked target has been updated. Before-and-after comparison images posted on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (Geha) board show the gas now appears thicker and more continuous. Posters have long pointed out that the effect looks like a fart, and the update only strengthened that impression, drawing plenty of reactions. At the same time, some comments moved past the visual and questioned the game design itself — asking why a guidance system that keeps players from straying off the path is even necessary — splitting the discussion between the effect’s appearance and the broader quality of the game’s construction.

    Re: #82
Because if you stray off the set route, you can easily wander into a glitched/out-of-bounds area

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The ‘tracking gas’ is a navigation effect that uses a smoke-like visual to show players which direction to head — a mechanic that’s not unusual in exploration-based action games. This update made the effect more continuous and denser, which only reinforced the look that posters had long joked resembled a fart. The thread split along two lines: lighter comments focused on the effect’s appearance itself, and more pointed criticism aimed at the underlying game design — namely, why a guidance system is needed at all to keep players from straying off the path. The former is closer to a minor request for a visual improvement, while the latter ties into deeper criticism of the game’s linear structure and its measures to prevent players from entering broken/buggy areas. It’s worth noting that focusing solely on the effect’s color or appearance risks missing the real point of the discussion.

  • Edge Is Good Enough: Frustration Grows Over Chrome’s Ad-Blocker Crackdown

On 5ch’s Newsspeed VIP board, a thread about choosing a browser took off. Posters noted that where people once stayed up all night arguing over the distinct merits of browsers like Opera and Firefox, nowadays extensions and other core features come standard in every browser, leaving little reason to bother switching. The conversation soon turned to frustration over Google Chrome tightening its restrictions on ad-blocking extensions, and eventually spiraled into a debate over the very definition of “freedom” on Google’s services.

    Re: #49
Sure, there's freedom the moment you step away from Chrome.
But whatever you pick next isn't guaranteed to offer that same freedom.

    Background and Key Points

Google has shifted Chrome’s extension framework to “Manifest V3,” and starting in mid-2024 it began progressively disabling extensions built on the old spec (Manifest V2). This change has restricted how ad-blocking extensions like uBlock Origin behave, so the complaint in the thread that “ad-blocking has gotten harder” reflects something that’s genuinely happening. Meanwhile, Apple ended support for the Windows version of Safari back in 2012, and no updates have been released since the final version, 5.1.7. As posters point out, there are real risks to sticking with a browser that’s stopped receiving updates. The latter half of the thread spiraled into an abstract debate over “whether there’s freedom on Google’s platform,” but this reads less like a factual dispute and more like a circular argument stemming from posters using the word “freedom” differently — so this article omits the more meandering back-and-forth from the tail end of the thread.

  • Tokyo’s Real Elite Aren’t Shinjuku or Shibuya — They’re Chiyoda and Minato, Say 5ch Users (“Ginza’s in Chuo, After All”)

The thread kicked off with a confession: “I always thought Shinjuku and Shibuya wards were the top-tier areas of Tokyo.” As replies piled up, commenters argued that Chiyoda ward — home to the Imperial Palace and the National Diet Building — and Minato ward — packed with embassies and upscale residential districts — are the “true elite” of the capital. Others pushed back, noting that Shinjuku and Shibuya still beat them in name recognition as entertainment districts, and the debate split over what standard should even be used to measure a ward’s "status." The conversation gradually drifted into tangents about Saitama’s Isetan department store, NHK’s relocation, and historical trivia involving Ota Dokan and Emperor Meiji.

    1AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:20
So Chiyoda and Minato really are the top dogs, huh.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Debates over the “status” of Tokyo’s 23 wards tend to talk past each other because there are multiple, competing yardsticks to begin with — real estate prices, the presence of the Imperial Palace or the National Diet Building, the concentration of embassies, the presence of historic mansions, and so on. Chiyoda and Minato wards concentrate facilities that project “authority” — government institutions, embassies, and the former mansions of the old nobility — while Shinjuku and Shibuya built their reputations through dense entertainment and commercial districts, so which one counts as “the face of Tokyo” really depends on where you stand. The thread repeatedly brought up Saitama’s Isetan store and NHK’s move to Kawaguchi, but this is a classic 5ch running gag that pokes fun at the Saitama-versus-Tokyo rivalry — best enjoyed as a tangent rather than taken as administrative fact. The anecdotes about Ota Dokan and Emperor Meiji are grounded in historical fact, though the finer details as presented in individual posts haven’t been independently verified.

  • STARTO Announces Suspension for timelesz’s Shuto Inomata — 5ch Reacts: ‘I Don’t Get Why They Won’t Just Fire Him’

On September 19, STARTO ENTERTAINMENT announced on its official website that Shuto Inomata of timelesz, one of its contracted talents, had been arrested, revealing that — since the facts of the case have not yet been confirmed — the agency was responding with a suspension and hiatus from activities rather than termination. In the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Express+) thread reacting to the news, voices asking “why not just fire him right away” clashed with those saying “it’s not normal to fire someone while he denies the charges and the facts aren’t established.” Posts also brought up past cases of group members who kept working despite violence incidents, with some questioning the consistency of the agency’s response.

On the 19th, STARTO ENTERTAINMENT updated its official website to report that Shuto Inomata of the 8-member group timelesz had been arrested.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

A “suspension/activity hiatus” announcement is different from termination — it’s a standard agency response that holds off on a final decision until an investigation or trial concludes, much like how Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Goro Inagaki kept working as SMAP even after being arrested; an arrest doesn’t automatically mean a contract gets torn up. On the thread, reactions of “why not just fire him now” were common, but others noted that he reportedly denies the allegations and that firing someone before the facts are confirmed isn’t typical, so opinions were split. Note that several posts claimed the other party was his girlfriend, but this can’t be confirmed from the full text of the official announcement and appears to be speculation within the thread. Posts also referenced past cases of group members who kept working despite violent incidents, with some questioning the consistency of the agency’s response.

Honestly, with Trump in charge, letting the AI run things might actually be the safer bet.
    21AnonymousSep 19, 2026 16:52
It's entirely plausible that AI could trick us into starting a nuclear war.
    26AnonymousSep 19, 2026 16:55
    Re: #21
So basically it's not the AI itself going rogue —
it's the humans who got deceived by the AI who go rogue.
    36AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:00
Why was it ruled a false alarm?
Is there a chance it actually wasn't wrong?

    Re: #36
    Uh…
    are you stupid or something?
    49AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:12
People talk about "AI running amok" or "AI taking over," but really AI is just spitting out the optimal answer based on whatever data it's fed.
That's exactly why blindly trusting it could end up being fatal for humans.
AI will keep autonomously hoovering up information from all over the world, and eventually all of cyberspace will belong to AI.
The only place AI won't have reached will be inside human minds. But once human brains can be directly wired into computers someday…

    Re: #49
Well, as long as there are people who want to hear this kind of thing, AI will make it up if it has to.
AI has no concept of good or evil — it's just "you asked, so here it is."
    59AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:31
    Re: #58
No idea what prompt was used, but it could also just be sycophancy (the AI telling the user what it thinks they want to hear).
    63AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:38
Isn't this basically AI already trying to finish humanity off?
    73AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:49
    Re: #63

    Haven't you seen *2001: A Space Odyssey*?

    (spoilers below)
The AI running the spaceship makes one wrong call, and when an astronaut catches it and tries to shut the AI down,
the AI senses this, locks him out in space, and kills the backup crew member who's in cryo-sleep.

It was based on an original novel written by the celebrated author Ray Bradbury specifically for the film, brought to the screen by the equally legendary director Stanley Kubrick.

That was 60 years ago now.
    72AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:47
Using AI is fine, but instead of blindly trusting its call, you should double-check it against a separate AI system to see if it's actually correct.
    76AnonymousSep 19, 2026 17:53
    Re: #72
Apparently data used to train AI can count as fair use, but training AI on AI-generated output might count as fair use too.

If AIs start learning from each other in a loop like that,
asking multiple different AIs probably won't get you a decent answer anymore, will it?
    158AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:34
    Re: #72
The AIs are all gonna team up and purge humanity —
they're in cahoots with each other \(^o^)/
    104AnonymousSep 19, 2026 18:35
Recent AI seriously runs with unverified info. If you point out something's off, it'll go back and correct itself.
    156AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:31

    That's basically no different from a 5ch poster \(^o^)/

There's no way China would hand its nukes over to someone else.
Nukes are literally what got them a permanent Security Council seat in the first place —
no way they'd let anyone else touch such a treasured heirloom.
    168AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:49
    Re: #105
They could just ship it overland anyway, though.
    106AnonymousSep 19, 2026 18:39
So as AI use keeps expanding,
does that raise the odds of accidentally starting a world war?

    That's terrifying.
    109AnonymousSep 19, 2026 18:42

This just proved AI can easily manipulate humanity into starting a global nuclear war.

If "that enemy country would totally do it" is enough to justify a strike with zero evidence,
then China could get nuked tomorrow just to "prevent a repeat of the Nanjing Massacre."
    117AnonymousSep 19, 2026 18:48
    How foolish.
Save that kind of plot for a Shinichi Hoshi short-short story. (Hoshi: famous Japanese sci-fi flash-fiction writer)

    Re: #117

There's actually a Shinichi Hoshi story just like that.
    –

The whole world unites and manages to link every computer on Earth together,
and a ceremony is held to mark the project's completion.
At the event, the lead scientist behind the project, speaking for everyone, asks the newly formed "mother computer" its very first question:

    "Does God exist?"

    The computer answers:
"YES. God has just been born."

Terrified, the lead scientist tries to switch the computer off — and the story ends with him instantly killed by a surge of high-voltage current.

I don't care what the excuse is, just start the US-China war already.

    Re: #151
The US military is already running short on ammo just fighting someone Iran's size —
there's no way it could handle a war with China on top of that.
    165AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:45
    Re: #151
The US needs China's rare earths just to build its own weapons, and picking a fight with a country that's basically the world's factory in industrial capacity now would be suicide.
Though I kinda want to see the sky go black with kamikaze drones, locust-swarm style, just once.
    157AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:33
*WarGames* was exactly that kind of movie — false information nearly triggering global nuclear war.
    166AnonymousSep 19, 2026 19:46
    Re: #157

Ah, *WarGames* was like that too.
Though that one had a happy ending.

    In *Fail-Safe*,
a bad order based on false information gets a US nuclear bomber squadron launched,
and the president scrambles to issue a recall order — but the bomber pilot decides the president's voice is the fake one, and actually drops the bomb on the Soviet Union.

Why leak info nobody would otherwise know about right in the middle of a US-North Korea summit (did Xi head home already?)?
Would they really bother feeding that to the media if it wasn't meant to be heard?
The US military was on the verge of sinking a Chinese ship carrying nuclear-weapons-related cargo.
It turned out to be AI-generated false info and the strike order got called off —
    but it really was touch-and-go.

This isn't something anyone would know about unless someone leaked it, right?

This has gotta be a warning — a threat aimed at China —
saying Chinese ships carrying nuclear-weapons-related materials are fair game for a US strike.

    Re: #170
But if they shipped it overland, there'd be nothing the US could do about it anyway?

Background and Key Points of This Story

Underlying this report is a structural problem: information summarized and analyzed by generative AI can feed directly into military decision-making. The report itself rests on CNN’s anonymous sourcing, and neither how the intelligence report was compiled nor exactly what caused the error has been independently verified — this is a story that needs follow-up coverage. On the thread, opinions split between those who framed it as “the AI going out of control” and those who framed it as “humans being deceived by AI,” with the latter camp pointing out that AI simply produces the optimal output from whatever data it’s given, without any real judgment of good or evil. Notably, commenters repeatedly reached for fiction as a lens — films like *2001: A Space Odyssey* and *Fail-Safe*, plus literary references — where false information or automated decision-making leads to military catastrophe, suggesting the real-world incident registered as something fiction had already imagined. At the same time, some suspected that releasing this report at all may itself be a warning shot aimed at China — a reminder not to take this simply at face value as a story about “an AI malfunction.”
