  • Zoro Awakens Conqueror’s Haki — 5ch Reacts: “It’s a Conqueror’s Haki Bargain Sale”

In the latest chapter of Weekly Shonen Jump’s ONE PIECE, Roronoa Zoro awakens Conqueror’s Haki (Haoshoku Haki), and reactions poured into a thread on 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G board). With Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji now all wielding Conqueror’s Haki, some posters got hyped, saying “he’s basically the Pirate King already,” while others pointed to the power’s growing inflation, calling it a “bargain sale” and saying it “feels like a dying mobile game.” The thread also drew debate over the differences between Conqueror’s, Armament, and Observation Haki, and over the gender imbalance among characters who possess it.

Oda: "I went and made the same mistake I did with Crocodine again… tried to keep it simple this time with just three types, but yeah, that didn't work out either, lol"

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

In the ONE PIECE story, Conqueror’s Haki (Haoshoku Haki) has long been portrayed as an exceedingly rare power — unlike Armament or Observation Haki, it can’t be trained into existence and only manifests in those born with the innate talent for it. Early in the story it was a special power wielded by only a handful of characters, like Luffy and Shanks, but as the series has progressed, more and more characters have gained it, and with Zoro’s awakening this time, the three core members — Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji — now all possess Conqueror’s Haki. This is exactly where opinion split in the thread: some argued it “only makes sense for the main crew to all have it,” while others grew cooler on the trend, saying it’s “been inflated by handing it out too easily.” Points the story itself hasn’t clarified — like how Conqueror’s Haki compares in strength to Armament Haki, and the fact that almost no female characters possess it — also became subjects of speculation.

  • Controller Tier List Sparks Debate — 5ch: ‘My PS5 Stick Turned Sticky’

A controller tier list, said to have been compiled from gamer votes, has been making waves on 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board. Chinese-brand controllers like the V5P and G7 Pro rank near the top, while the Xbox controller and Switch Pro Controller land near the bottom — sparking debate over whether the rankings are actually fair.

The discussion centers on whether a controller uses Hall-effect sticks (a increasingly popular fix for stick drift), the notoriously short battery life of Sony’s premium ¥30,000 DualSense Edge, and a degradation issue several posters reported — the surface of official PS5 controller sticks turning sticky over time. Posters also questioned who compiled the list and what criteria it used, keeping the thread from settling into a simple “better vs. worse” argument.

Third-party pads can be great because makers pour money into them, but a third-party controller is still a third-party controller.
Half of this is just Sony-bashing.
Third-party gear has downsides too, which makes it a harder pick.

The DS3 is the "Shinagawa pad" (slang for Sony's own controller, after Sony's Shinagawa HQ) that got mocked relentlessly back in the day for being full of lag and losing out to an Xbox controller run through a converter lol.
Anyone who praises that thing is basically admitting they have no eye for quality.
    63AnonymousSep 28, 2026 19:47
PlayStation can't change its stick layout because of backward compatibility, so it's been stuck with this arrangement forever.
Even Nintendo ended up matching Xbox's layout, so the asymmetrical stick placement is probably just the most playable arrangement, period.

    77AnonymousSep 28, 2026 19:53
    Re: #71
The premium models near the top resist stick drift better, and since the buttons use mechanical switches, the durability is definitely there.

Nintendo also had to design around things like detachable Joy-Cons for passing controllers around, which is probably how it ended up with its current shape.
I'd love to see something genuinely new in next-gen controllers.

    Re: #113
It's less "close the tab" and more just… they're old, that's the obvious part.
These days it's all about having the features.

Background and key points of this discussion

Analog stick “drift” has been a common weak point of console controllers for several years, and more products have started adopting Hall-effect sticks as a fix. Chinese-brand controllers named in the thread, like the V5P and G7 Pro, market this feature heavily — while they tend to hold up well against wear, some posters raised concerns about build quality and support. Sony’s premium DualSense Edge is notable for its swappable stick modules, but its more complex internals reportedly give it shorter battery life than the standard model, leaving posters split on whether it’s worth the roughly ¥30,000 price tag. Several posters also independently reported that the surface of official PS5 controller sticks turns sticky over time, with material hydrolysis suspected as the cause, though there’s no official explanation. The tier list itself also drew scrutiny, with some questioning whether it was compiled from the perspective of someone who plays PC games with a gamepad — suggesting rankings may shift depending on use case rather than being a simple better-or-worse comparison, a nuance the original source material doesn’t fully address.

    Background and Talking Points

This friendly was arranged during an international Group A match week and appears to be part of manager Moriyasu’s squad evaluation ahead of the World Cup finals. His decision to leave out key players like Kubo Takefusa and Ito Junya in favor of a heavily rotated starting lineup split the thread — some questioned the tactics, arguing the team looked “unstable without established chemistry,” while others felt “resting the main players was the right call.” Ito Junya’s rise to the top of Japan’s all-time assist list is an officially recorded achievement, and it drew more attention in the thread than the result of the friendly itself. It’s also worth noting that opponents Venezuela are the only one of South America’s ten countries never to have reached the World Cup finals, a point commenters raised as well. As is typical for friendlies, it’s worth keeping in mind that the result itself doesn’t directly feed into official rankings.

The first time you really feel time speed up is once you pass 30
Up through 35 you're still just barely aware of it, but past that you're suddenly 39
Once you hit 40 it accelerates all at once — next thing you know you're 47
Then the day before your 50th birthday it hits you: "Ah… it's over"
60 basically shows up out of nowhere, feeling like it took about as long as one year did when you were young

When you're a kid or young, there's so much you don't know yet that everything feels fresh and stirs your emotions constantly — that's why time feels long back then
Because of that inexperience you also do a lot of pointless things, get hurt, get your heart bruised — and those painful experiences are what stretch time out
As you mature and learn to avoid that kind of waste, you start living more efficiently, but that pursuit of efficiency and routine only grows stronger with age, which makes time feel even faster
That's not a bad thing — it means you're getting closer to the truth
Conversely, when you're young there's the pain of reality being hard to see clearly through all the noise
Once you're middle-aged and time starts feeling fast, you start valuing time more
That's exactly what pushes you to feel like you need to get things done
The drive to act on that wisdom becomes middle age's greatest strength
That's why the gap in people's character really shows after middle age
    80AnonymousSep 28, 2026 19:00

But that noise from your younger years is actually important

    Re: #80
    Exactly right
When you're young, running headfirst into that noise — getting hurt, getting wounded, being humiliated — and pushing through it is incredibly important
You can't get that back once you're middle-aged
It's fine for kids and young people to fail over and over, and it's just as important to have an environment that forgives those failures
Today's society is tragic because it doesn't tolerate failure even from childhood on, not just in adulthood — it's become a society obsessed with picking the "socially correct" answer
    76AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:58
Suddenly sensing the end after 40 isn't just about your own decline

I personally think it's not that time just "feels" faster — I think it's actually speeding up
In other words, a whole lifetime already exists like a single sphere,
and a person is just consciousness moving through that sphere. That movement speeds up with age
The sphere is like a ball of yarn, containing many lives layered like parallel worlds
Those could be next lives, or they could shift depending on your choices and actions — but the hypothesis is that consciousness is what moves forward through that parallel world

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Matsuko Deluxe (53) has long served as the Monday commentator on TOKYO MX’s “5-ji ni Muchu!”, and her remark here grew out of casual chatter about a topical news item — the early arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau — rather than being offered as serious life advice. The thread’s recurring theme, that “a year feels shorter the older you get,” echoes what psychology calls “Janet’s Law” (the theory that a year feels shorter the smaller its proportion is relative to the total years you’ve lived), and it struck a chord mainly with posters in their 30s and 40s. That said, opinions on why time feels faster varied widely, ranging from explanations rooted in accumulated experience and efficiency to the joking folk theory that the Earth’s rotation itself is speeding up — there was no real consensus. Note that replies containing unverified claims about Matsuko’s private life or the health of co-stars and other celebrities have been excluded.

I'd guess it's a small enough amount that the tax office wouldn't even notice if he kept quiet, but I guess his need for attention wins out.
Makes you wonder if it's exhausting for a guy like him to get bashed no matter what he does — though he's probably built himself a system where the money keeps coming in regardless.

    Background and Key Points

Under Japanese tax law, horse racing payouts are classified as “occasional income” subject to declaration, but the cost of losing tickets generally cannot be deducted as an expense. The reason commenters argued that “his lifetime win/loss must be deep in the red” is rooted in a confusing quirk of the system: even someone who loses money overall can still be taxed on a single winning bet. The actual declaration rate for payouts is said to be low — cash payouts at the counter are hard to trace, while online betting leaves a record that effectively forces bettors to declare their winnings. This gap is one reason the “pay your taxes” camp and the “nobody actually declares it anyway” camp keep talking past each other. Since opinions on Gaasy himself remain divided, the thread also branched out from the tax question into broader debate over his character.

  • Japan National Team Faces Venezuela with Kamada as Captain — 5ch: ‘Why Even Call Up Soma?’

On September 28, 2026 at 7:25 PM, the Japan national team took on Venezuela in a friendly broadcast on Nippon TV and streamed on TVer. Daichi Kamada started as the new captain, with Reo Bryan Kokubo in goal. The lineup also included a player just back from an ACL injury, and the live-commentary thread mostly focused on questions over why Yuki Soma got called up, along with debate over Kokubo’s performance between the posts. Some posters also worried about the lack of a clear leader marshaling the center-back line, turning the discussion into something bigger than just the result — a debate over the shape of the next-generation national team.

    155AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:13
    Re: #152
By process of elimination, it's gotta be Ito.

    Background and Talking Points

With several regulars sidelined by injury, this friendly against Venezuela was framed as a proving ground under new captain Daichi Kamada, and many in the thread read it as “a match for testing the young players.” Opinions split over Yuki Soma’s call-up largely because it had been a while since his last national-team appearance — in reality he’s still only 29, the same age as Kamada, Itakura, and Go Watanabe. Goalkeeper Reo Bryan Kokubo, whose father is from South Africa, drew praise such as “he was the starting keeper in the English top flight” and “maybe the best GK Japan’s ever had,” though some also flagged weaknesses in his decision-making, leaving a mix of hope and concern. The comments about a missing defensive leader also point to a structural issue facing the whole national team: developing a successor generation to Shogo Taniguchi and Takehiro Tomiyasu. It read less as criticism of any one player than as worry over a stalled generational handover.

In the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Mako Fukube (30) won gold with a time of 12.74 seconds, sealing a Japanese one-two finish alongside Hitomi Nakashima. During the TBS network broadcast, a female announcer repeatedly mispronounced Fukube’s name as “Ms. Kikuchi,” which online commenters noted matches the name of a real medical condition, “Kikuchi disease,” sparking a stir online. The thread split between those who found it troubling to be called by a disease’s name and those saying “let it slide, it’s a minor thing,” with frustration over TBS’s commentary in general also boiling over.

The women’s 100m hurdles final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games was held on the 27th at Paloma Mizuho Stadium, where former national record holder Mako Fukube (30, Nihon Kensetsu Kogyo) won gold with a time of 12.74 seconds. Hitomi Nakashima (31, Hasegawa Taiiku Shisetsu) took silver, completing a Japanese one-two finish. Meanwhile, a commentary mistake by a female announcer during the same-day TBS broadcast has been causing a stir online.

    Re: #134
Though it's somewhat unavoidable — the disease was discovered by Dr. Masahiro Kikuchi and colleagues, hence the name

Background and Key Points of This Story

Kikuchi disease (Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease) is a real lymph-node condition first reported in 1972 by pathologist Masahiro Kikuchi and colleagues — it just happens to share its name with the surname “Kikuchi.” In this case, it appears the announcer meant to say Fukube’s name, but the more familiar term “Kikuchi disease” slipped out instead. Opinions in the thread were split between those brushing it off as a simple slip of the tongue and those voicing discomfort at an athlete being called by a disease’s name. There’s also a history of complaints about TBS’s commentary style — loud shouting and awkwardly staged broadcast moments — and this mistake is being discussed as part of that pattern. It should be noted that how Fukube herself reacted, and whether TBS offered any explanation or apology, are not covered in the source material and remain unknown.

  • MARVEL Tōkon Concurrent Players Crash to Around 100 — Fans Fear the Game May Be Getting Shut Down

The fighting game “MARVEL Tōkon,” published by a Sony subsidiary, has seen its concurrent player count crash to around 100, sparking discussion on the Japanese hardware/gaming-industry forum board. Developed by Arc System Works, the game reportedly had about 25,000 concurrent players right after launch, meaning the vast majority of its playerbase has dropped off in under two months. Posters were split on the cause: some blamed the mandatory PSN account linking, while others argued the game’s content itself simply didn’t land. With a season pass featuring additional characters planned through December 2027, some worried whether the service can keep running that long, or whether it will meet the same fate as “Concord,” which was pulled from sale and refunded shortly after launch.

Which is the lesser evil — keep running it, or refund everyone?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

MARVEL Tōkon is a PS5 fighting game published by a Sony subsidiary studio and developed by Arc System Works, a developer with a strong track record in the fighting genre. It reportedly had around 25,000 concurrent players right after launch, but by the time of this thread, that number had crashed to the low hundreds in under two months. This drop was the main point of debate among posters, with some pointing to the mandatory PSN account linking, and others arguing that since even the PS5 version’s sales were weak, the problem must lie with the game itself. Another Sony-published Marvel title, “Wolverine,” has also reportedly struggled, and several posts noted that this marks two Marvel titles in a row running into trouble. With a season pass featuring additional characters planned through December 2027, attention is now on whether the service can keep running that long, or whether it will meet an ending similar to “Concord,” which was pulled from sale and refunded shortly after launch.

Spitz does use it, you know

    Background and Key Points

Vibrato is a vocal technique involving a fine, rapid wavering of pitch, long prized as an ornamental flourish in enka and opera. Since the 1990s, however, rock acts and singer-songwriters have increasingly favored a more restrained style that deliberately avoids it. The thread brought together names from recent artists like Aimyon and Yorushika alongside figures from earlier generations, such as the Shibuya-kei scene and Elephant Kashimashi’s Hiroji Miyamoto, suggesting that non-vibrato singers turn up across genres and eras. At the same time, posters disagreed on whether “kobushi” should count as a type of vibrato, and some pointed out that aging vocal cords can weaken and start producing an unintentional, constant vibrato. It’s worth noting that how deliberately any given artist avoids vibrato is a matter of listener impression rather than something the artists themselves have confirmed, so it shouldn’t be read as settled fact.

  • Shohei Ohtani Finishes Season Ranked 5th in WAR — 5ch Asks: ‘Is There Even a Point to the Two-Way Thing Anymore?’

With the 2026 MLB season now over, Shohei Ohtani settling for 5th place in the overall WAR rankings — the stat meant to capture a player’s total value — became a hot topic on 5ch’s “Whatever Live” sports board. Breaking down the numbers, his batting WAR was 3.7 (40th) and his pitching WAR was 2.9 (34th) — neither figure is anything special on its own for a two-way player. It also came out that teammate Seiya Suzuki actually beat Ohtani in batting WAR alone, and the thread split over whether the two-way experiment is still worth it, and how to judge a season plagued by injuries.

(Note: Mijirowski picked up his 16th win of the season in his final start)

    Re: #31
Lol, his career WAR is the same as Uehara's, and Uehara didn't even go to MLB until he was almost 40
    56AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:06
PCA's just padding his numbers by being 'two-way' in batting and defense
    59AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:11
    Re: #56
Guys who can't field don't show up here
Trout, Judge, Betts, and Bobby Witt Jr. all hit 10 WAR as position players
    57AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:07
    .276, 30 HR, .891 OPS
And this is supposedly his 'washed up, off year' that everyone keeps complaining about
    Ohtani's a monster
This crushes even the career-best seasons of everyone else
Ohtani in a terrible slump > everyone else's career year

    Re: #57
Can't even read the data properly, can you?
Shohei Ohtani — batting WAR 3.7 (22nd in the league)
Seiya Suzuki — batting WAR 4.6 (10th in the league)
    69AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:18
    Re: #66
If WAR includes defense, then it's only fair to include Ohtani's pitching WAR too
    70AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:19
Wait, do you guys actually hate Ohtani that much?
    74AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:22
    Re: #70
Not that I hate him, I just watched because he was dominating — doesn't mean I'm a fan though
There's no heartwarming backstory to him or anything
    78AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:25
    Re: #70
Honestly there's no struggle story with him, he's just been blessed from the start
When he was putting up numbers I thought he was amazing, but I never really liked him as a person
    73AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:21
Even limiting it to just batting WAR, losing to Seiya Suzuki is shocking
Suzuki's doing well, sure, but until now nobody would've even compared him to Ohtani — the gap was just too big
    77AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:24
    Re: #73
The fact that a guy actually playing defense is beating a DH-only guy in batting WAR is already weird on its own
Suzuki was DH-only last year too and his OPS is basically unchanged from this year — defensive workload barely matters unless you're playing shortstop or catcher anyway
    75AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:23
Ohtani without pitching is worse than Suzuki
And honestly it's not even clear if Ohtani can pitch properly again going forward
Even if he quits the two-way thing, if his knee's shot he probably can't even do proper defensive drills
    82AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:27
    Re: #75
If he's not pitching, he can just bulk up and hit 50 home runs
He's on a different level from some guy who bulked up and only managed 32
    81AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:27
    Re: #74
I get that, but there are quite a few people gleefully celebrating his numbers dropping too, right?
I just wonder what's so satisfying about that
    104AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:41
    Re: #81
I think it's just that his fanboys picked fights with not only other baseball players but other athletes in general, one too many times lol
    86AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:28
He's getting crushed in both WAR and OPS overall, so acting like it's only fair to narrow it down to batting WAR — isn't that kind of disrespecting Seiya Suzuki?
    93AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:31
    Re: #86
In the past, even narrowing it down to just batting WAR, it was a total blowout [in Ohtani's favor]
I still don't think Ohtani's overall combined value is actually below Suzuki's even now, but the fact that he lost even in the batting-only comparison is a decline nobody would've imagined before
    96AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:34
Ohtani always prioritized sleep for recovery above everything else. But now that his second child has been born, there's probably crying at night, and he's probably too smitten to help it — his daily rhythm must have taken at least some hit.
It might not just be aging; his priorities in life may have shifted too.

Either way, looking forward to next season.
    99AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:36
    Re: #96
The problem is he's not aware of that and is still trying to keep up his old workload
    97AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:34
    Re: #93
He'll probably get crushed again next year anyway though
Suzuki's having a career year in his contract year (lit. "job-hunting year")
Ohtani's just a guy whose numbers dropped because of injury
    98AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:36
    Re: #97
Sure, that's how it'll go if he commits to being a batter only
But if he insists on sticking with the two-way thing, it's obvious he'll get injured again next year too
Even in his younger years there were barely any seasons where he actually managed to balance both
    103AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:41
As a DH-only guy, even pulling off a 50-50 season won't get his fWAR to 10, so that path's a dead end
If two-way is off the table, playing defense is the only way left to reach fWAR 10
    105AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:43
    Re: #103
A body that breaks down from just a little bit of pitching obviously can't handle playing defense every single day
He's DH-only from here on out lol
    107AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:48
    Re: #103
Well, he could probably manage in the outfield
    108AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:53
At the end of the day, staying injury-free is the single most essential requirement for a player to really succeed

There's not a single injury-prone player who became truly great
Every player who gets called a legend stays completely injury-free right up until their later years

No matter how well you hit or pitch, if you get injured it's all wasted
It all goes down the drain
    109AnonymousSep 28, 2026 18:58
    Re: #108
Wait, is Ohtani not already a legend?

Background and Key Points of the Debate

WAR is a metric that converts multiple elements — batting, baserunning, defense, and pitching — into a single number measured against a replacement-level player, and the fewer chances a player gets to play, the harder it is for that number to grow. Because Ohtani was coming off an injury and had his starts and innings limited, his pitching WAR was always likely to come in low; and since he’s DH-only as a batter, there’s no bonus from defensive value built into the metric, so even strong batting numbers don’t easily translate into a top batting-WAR ranking. The point of contention in the thread was whether the value of a two-way player should be measured by “batting WAR plus pitching WAR combined,” or whether he should be judged by the same standard as single-position players — and by design, WAR itself doesn’t clearly settle which approach is correct. It’s also worth keeping in mind that this was a year in which playing time itself was reduced due to injury, which was one factor behind the drop in ranking.
