    Background and Key Points

‘Local Bus Transfer Showdown Trip’ is a long-running popular series starring Yosuke Taigawa and Fumito Kawai as regulars, and this installment marks the 18th entry in its ‘territory battle’ format. For the first time in the show’s history, the route crossed three prefectures — Tochigi, Saitama, and Gunma — as Team Taigawa and Team Kawai faced off for the first time in a year. Team Kawai includes Maria Makino, a former Morning Musume ’14 member who graduated from the group in 2023, and most of the thread was devoted to anticipation for her athleticism, speculation about the bus transfer routes, and on-the-ground sightings. Some unsubstantiated speculation about cast members’ private lives and beliefs also appeared and has been excluded from this article. The complaint that the local-bus-trip format’s rules have become ‘complicated and hard to follow’ may also be lost on readers unfamiliar with the series.

  • Is ¥100,000–130,000 a Month Enough to Live on Welfare? 5ch Weighs In: ‘A Cultured Life Needs ¥200,000’

A thread on 5ch (News VIP) asking “Isn’t ¥100,000–130,000 in welfare benefits too little?” sparked a debate over the constitutional guarantee of a “minimum standard of wholesome and cultured living.” While some argued that “a cultured life requires at least ¥200,000,” others shared personal experience getting by on just ¥50,000 a month — splitting opinion not so much over the raw figure as over where to set the baseline for an acceptable standard of living. Posters also questioned the premise that rent must come out of that ¥100,000–130,000, and pointed out that benefit amounts differ depending on whether a recipient owns or rents their home.

    1AnonymousOct 1, 2026 18:41
If you want a 'cultured' life, I think ¥200k isn't unreasonable.
    5AnonymousOct 1, 2026 18:42

So that 'standard' comes out to about ¥200k?
    11AnonymousOct 1, 2026 18:42
Not totally sure how this works, but is that ¥100,000–130,000 free to spend, with rent paid separately?
    21AnonymousOct 1, 2026 18:45
    Re: #11
No, rent comes out of that ¥100,000–130,000.

    Re: #21
    Right, exactly.
    It doesn't add up.
That's why the prefecture or the national government should just buy dedicated low-rent apartments and house welfare recipients there.
    12AnonymousOct 1, 2026 18:43
Even with the money it's not a 'cultured' life — that's why they call it 'namapo' (a slangy, somewhat derisive term for welfare).
    15AnonymousOct 1, 2026 18:44

Is 'not struggling to survive' really a fair bar for the minimum?
Take-home pay of ¥200k is, for now, enough that you're not struggling to survive.
Though get seriously ill and you'd probably fall straight into needing welfare.

    121AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:32

When you think they're getting ¥150,000–180,000 every month without working at all, I think that's just too much.
    128AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:35

    Re: #163
Sounds like the type who'd make their elderly parents keep working.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Welfare payments are set according to standards established by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and vary based on the recipient’s residential “cost-of-living grade” and household composition. The rent portion is paid separately from the basic living allowance as a distinct “housing assistance” benefit, and medical costs are, in principle, fully covered with no out-of-pocket burden. Within the thread, posts that assumed “rent comes out of the ¥100,000–130,000” were mixed in with posts that accounted for the existence of housing and medical assistance, which was part of why the discussion kept talking past itself. The bar for a “cultured life” also varies widely from person to person — the gap between those citing ¥200,000 a month as a benchmark and those pointing to real examples of getting by on ¥50,000 comes down largely to differing views on what counts as a necessary expense. When comparing these benefit figures directly to take-home pay, it’s worth remembering that these institutional details are easy to overlook.

A Music Natalie report that Timelesz’s live Blu-ray/DVD release had been canceled became a hot topic on 5ch’s Entertainment & Sports Express+ board. The official announcement only cited “various circumstances,” but the thread quickly filled with comments like “the woman who got hit” and “a group with a criminal in its ranks,” fueling speculation that a member-related incident was the real reason behind the cancellation. Opinions split over the fallout for commercial endorsements, the likely scale of damages, and whether the group could keep going.

On top of this, the commercial losses are pretty huge too — does Inomata actually bear any liability for damages, I wonder lol

    Re: #139
For commercials where the contract is still ongoing, the losses probably aren't that bad (no idea what it does to the companies' actual sales though)

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Timelesz was rebuilt from the former Sexy Zone, with new members added through an audition project, and canceling a live video release on this scale is considered rare for the music software market. The official phrase “due to various circumstances” is standard boilerplate that doesn’t spell out a reason, so the thread’s comments are ultimately speculation built on previously reported news. The debate centered on whether the group should keep going and how large the damages tied to commercial contracts and the like might be, with some users drawing comparisons to past group breakups. Worth noting: as of this thread, neither the direct cause of the cancellation nor any disciplinary action against the member involved had been officially confirmed.

  • New ‘Aniimo’ Monster Designs Spark 5ch Debate Over Pokémon Resemblance

On 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (Geha) board, a thread blew up over how closely the monster designs in the new game “Aniimo” resemble Pokémon. The discussion kicked off over “ODDISH,” the English name for Oddish (Nazonokusa), then spiraled as users posted image after image of creatures resembling Kyurem and Dragapult, splitting opinion on whether it counts as a rip-off. Some pointed out that Aniimo’s monster-catching method matches Palworld’s pre-lawsuit mechanics and asked “why isn’t Nintendo suing this one too?” — but others countered that “the current system has already been judged not to be a problem.” The thread also touched on Pokémon’s sales trends and its nomination status at the Golden Joystick Awards.

ODDISH is the English name for Pokémon’s Oddish (Nazonokusa)

    Background and Key Points

The thread’s backdrop is the 2024 lawsuit in which Nintendo and The Pokémon Company sued Palworld’s developer over patent infringement tied to “monster capturing.” The claim that Aniimo’s capture method resembles pre-lawsuit Palworld draws directly on that precedent. The Golden Joystick Awards are a UK-based gaming awards show, and the “Still Playing” category mentioned in the thread is a separate popularity-vote category from the main Game of the Year contenders — Palworld’s inclusion there shouldn’t be confused with an actual GOTY nomination. Additionally, the source of the sales-trend images posted in the thread couldn’t be verified within the thread itself, so the accuracy of those figures remains unconfirmed.

  • Is Stick-Click a Nintendo ‘Rip-off’? 5ch: ‘The 1974 Patent Isn’t Even Sony’s’

On 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board, a thread questioned whether Nintendo and Xbox simply copied PlayStation’s analog stick-click feature. That premise was quickly undercut by a reply pointing out that the patent in question was filed back in 1974, has long since expired, and wasn’t even filed by Sony. From there the thread spiraled into debates over the origins of L/R buttons, rumble, and the PS-style boomerang-shaped controller, with posters split over which manufacturer actually thought of what first.

The now-standard controller shape, with the left and right grips extending downward in that boomerang form —
that was also invented by Sony for PlayStation.
Makes you wonder if they just never patented it.
At first I thought the design looked weird and kind of uncool,
but I was surprised how much more comfortable to hold it was compared to older controllers.
That's probably exactly why it caught on and became today's standard shape.
    107AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:58
    Re: #99
If all you mean is a boomerang shape with grips extending downward, there was already something called the BPS-MAX back in the Famicom era…
Practically nobody knows about it, but even though it was flat-ish, it curved gently and was fairly comfortable to hold.
Its D-pad was sort of a proto slide-pad too, which you could call ahead of its time, though it felt pretty quirky on the Famicom.
    100AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:09
Don't really care either way, but I keep triggering it by accident,
so whoever invented stick-click needs to learn their lesson the hard way.
    103AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:15
    Re: #100
Are you really pressing that hard that you keep triggering it by accident?

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Controller “designs” are protected for a limited time under patents or utility models, but that protection typically expires ten-to-twenty-odd years after filing, after which the design becomes free for anyone to use. The “1974 patent” cited in the thread is a textbook example of this — the spec itself is old, and crucially it didn’t originate with Sony, which is a fair point. Where the thread split was over where to draw the line on “copying”: there are competing claims about which company first implemented individual features like L/R buttons, rumble, or clickable sticks, and in practice it’s closer to the truth that multiple manufacturers converged on similar ideas by borrowing from each other. Replies tend to frame this as a tug-of-war over whether Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony is the “true originator,” but it’s worth remembering that game controller shapes and input schemes are the product of industry-wide trial and error — not something that reduces neatly to a binary of “rip-off” versus “original.”

Kawaei made senbatsu in the final general election while still active, so saying she only got popular after graduating doesn't really hold up — she clearly already had mainstream recognition and popularity before that.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

AKB48’s “golden era” is often used to describe the period when the group enjoyed nationwide popularity through general elections and TV appearances, but there’s no strict definition of the term. Within the thread, opinions were split on the label itself — some argued that “you shouldn’t call someone a golden-era member if they only got popular after graduating,” while others countered that “Kawaei made senbatsu in general elections even while still active.” Many also said they “couldn’t tell who was who” even looking at the group photo, likely because roughly a decade has passed since graduation, widening the gap in each member’s activity level and media exposure. Some posts speculated that absent former members might have skipped the event due to pregnancy or busy schedules, but it’s worth noting these are all unverified guesses, not explanations from the people themselves.

  • Jun’ichi Urita’s Wife: ‘I Feel My Life Is in Danger’ — Her Ominous Post Sets 5ch Abuzz

On the 1st, Reiko, an influencer and the wife of fighter-turned-TV personality Jun’ichi Urita, caused a stir with a post on her X account reading: “I, Urita Reiko, along with my husband Jun’ichi Urita, and the streamers Udon and Shiki, are currently in a situation where we feel our lives are in danger from various directions.” The way she framed it — “leaving this as a record” — sent ripples through the community. On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports Breaking News+ board, reactions were split between confusion over the lack of concrete details and pointed sarcasm aimed at Urita, who once styled himself as the “outlaw charisma.”

Yeah, she's one of those streamers on Fuwacc, Twitcasting, and TikTok who's always chasing controversy for attention.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Jun’ichi Urita is a former hangure (semi-organized street gang) member turned fighter and TV personality who brands himself the “outlaw charisma,” known for appearances on fight shows like “Breaking Down.” His wife Reiko is an influencer with a strong social media following, and her post also named the streamers “Udon” and “Shiki” — though exactly what has happened remains unexplained. Reactions on the thread split mainly two ways: one camp offers cold, sarcastic jabs along the lines of “it’s rich for someone who called himself a gangster to now complain about being in danger,” while the other urges caution, arguing that without concrete details, people shouldn’t be fueling speculation. The key thing readers should note is that the post itself provides no evidence of who the trouble is with or what it actually involves — so talk on 5ch of a “gangster-on-gangster feud” remains pure speculation.

This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports Breaking News+) thread “Jun’ichi Urita’s Wife Posts Ominous Warning: “My Husband and I… Are in a Situation Where We Feel Our Lives Are in Danger” / “Leaving This as a Record”.”

  • Gears of War: E-Day Launches with Metascore of 89, Reviews Split

Gears of War: E-Day, the new Xbox Series X/S and PC title, has launched with a Metacritic score of 89 — a high mark for a Microsoft first-party release that sparked surprise in the thread. At the same time, GameSpot’s score of 7 and French outlet Gamekult’s unusually low 50 became a talking point after they dragged the aggregate score down by 2 points. Scores vary wildly between outlets, with IGN’s provisional score sitting at 90 and IGN Spain awarding a perfect 100. On top of that, Digital Foundry reported on a technical workaround that uses the SSD to compensate for the Xbox Series S’s limited memory, drawing attention beyond just the scores.

    Re: #81
Everyone's clustering their releases around this window to avoid colliding with GTA6.

    Background and Key Points

Aggregator sites like Metacritic calculate a simple average across outlets, so a single reviewer handing out an extremely low score can drag the overall number down significantly. Gamekult, mentioned in the thread, has a history of wildly erratic scoring, and this case once again exposed that weakness in the aggregation method. The stark divide between GameSpot’s 7 and IGN’s 90 is another example of how much outlets’ priorities can differ. Note that while the original thread title includes “PS5,” the game is an Xbox Series X/S and PC exclusive and will not be released on PS5 — on hardware-focused boards it’s common practice to tack an unsupported platform’s name onto a thread title just to drive views, so the actual supported platforms can differ from what the title implies. The SSD-as-memory technology is also newsworthy in its own right, since tech outlets praised it as a concrete solution to the Xbox Series S’s well-known memory constraints.

Sneaking right back into Sega-related stuff, how opportunistic
I was surprised they even mentioned the Nagoshi Studio name… though "was" — the past tense is kind of sad

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Toshihiro Nagoshi, known as the father of the Yakuza (Like a Dragon) series, reportedly left Sega in 2021 and launched a new studio in partnership with a Chinese company. His new project, “Gang of Dragon,” has since seen no notable updates, and the thread was split over how to read that silence. Some argued it’s only natural for fans to worry, while others coolly pushed back with comments like “just ask him directly on X” or “asking here on Geha won’t accomplish anything.” Many posts also expressed concern for the former staff who followed him out of Sega and what’s become of their careers. That said, claims made in the thread about him being unemployed or about his health are purely unverified speculation and should be treated with caution.

  • Japan Beats Ecuador 5-4 on Penalties — Fans Hail Seko and Tanaka Ao’s ‘MOM’ Performances

On October 1, Japan’s national team faced Ecuador in their opening match of the Kirin Cup. The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, triggering a penalty shootout under the tournament’s rules. Japan converted all five of their kicks, while Ecuador missed their third, giving Moriyasu’s Japan a 5-4 win. On 5ch’s live-discussion threads, many fans pushed for Seko and Tanaka Ao — standouts in defense and incisive vertical passing — to be named Man of the Match (MOM), while others pointed out Sano’s frequent passing errors and debated the tactical wisdom of the back-five formation, which they felt overburdens the wing-backs.

On October 1, the Japan national team led by manager Moriyasu Hajime took on Ecuador in the opening match of the Kirin Cup, held at Nissan Stadium (Yokohama International Stadium).

Japan made ten changes to their starting lineup from the Venezuela match three days earlier. Early on, Ecuador controlled possession, but Japan gradually found their rhythm and created a few chances, though they couldn’t break through the opposing defense, and the first half ended scoreless.

Japan dominated the second half, and Suzuki Yuito and Ito Junya both had clear scoring chances, but neither found the net. With the score still 0-0 after 90 minutes, the match went to a penalty shootout under this tournament’s rules. Japan converted all five of their kicks, while Ecuador’s third kicker missed, handing Moriyasu’s Japan a 5-4 victory.

It's really about the keeper's presence first.
Teams are strong when they've got a GK with that 'Nen ability' aura (like the power system from Hunter x Hunter).
When you've got a keeper who feels like he'll definitely save at least one, it actually makes it easier for your own kickers to strike with confidence.

Today it was only 90 minutes, and since it's a friendly with lots of substitutions allowed, the kicks had good precision and power.
I'd like to see how many a kicker who's completely gassed after 120 minutes could actually convert.
    5AnonymousOct 1, 2026 23:38
Did someone swap out Seko's personality overnight?
    23AnonymousOct 1, 2026 23:50
    Re: #5
The old Seko used to look all jittery and unfocused — he was probably possessed by an alien back then.

Guess introducing penalty shootouts in the J.League — the '100-Year Vision' league — is paying off after all.

But most of these guys play overseas, don't they?
That'd make sense for an under-age squad, but not this one.

Thanks to two straight days of soccer broadcasts, TBS took the #1 ratings spot in its time slot.

Tanaka Ao was also looking incredible on both ends — his vertical passes were slicing through, his defense was solid, and his jumping ability is high.

    Re: #24
That vertical pass from Tanaka Ao was insane.
Even the commentator couldn't help but shout.

    That finish was high-school-level stuff.

Guy's getting up there in years, maybe it's time to retire from the national team.

Man, I really wanted Suzuki Yuito to finish that one.

Seriously, the growth Tanaka Ao and Seko have shown is the big takeaway here.
Those two are my MOM picks.
    31AnonymousOct 1, 2026 23:52
    Re: #25
MOM goes to Seko, and Seko alone.
    37AnonymousOct 1, 2026 23:55
Sano's making a lot of mistakes.
He botched easy passes multiple times again today.
    39AnonymousOct 1, 2026 23:56
    Re: #37
Tanaka Ao's misplaced passes were actually worse.
    50AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:00

There's a spot on goal where penalties land with basically 100% success.
The only question is whether you're brave enough to go for it without fear of skying it — but Japanese players tend to be extremely scared of aiming for that spot,
so everyone just rolls it along the ground and gets saved.
Today's Maeda also looked like kind of a mishit, honestly.
    100AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:26
    Re: #50
Surprised that the top-center spot is the 100% one.
    53AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:02
I was worried whether Maeda would be okay taking that penalty, but then I was shocked by how relaxed he looked.
Is he actually good at penalties?
    64AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:06
    Re: #53
At the very least, Maeda and Soma have like 100x better shot accuracy than Mitoma, lol
    55AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:03
Forget all that — what was with that terrible pitch?
    58AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:04
    Re: #55
Probably from all the recent rain.
    68AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:07
South American full-backs really do have strong defending against dribblers.
Makes sense, they have to deal with Brazil and Argentina's aces on a regular basis.

Mitoma couldn't get past the South American defenders either, and Nakamura was pretty much bottled up in his pocket the whole game.
Soma, meanwhile, got completely toyed with.
    71AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:09
    Re: #68
Wan-Bissaka is a defender with specs just as high as any South American, but Mitoma held his own against him just fine.
    72AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:09
Honestly, can we please ditch the back-five already.
The wing-backs are carrying way too much of a load.
    74AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:11
    Re: #72
But honestly, I like how stable the team feels now — it really shuts down the opponent's penetration into the box, and they're barely allowing any breakthroughs or crosses from the flanks either. The benefits feel worth the extra workload.
    75AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:11
I want Nakamura Keito to push forward vertically more.
He doesn't even need to beat his man — just clipping it off the defender's foot to win a corner is fine.
That's one of the big jobs for a winger.
    76AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:12
    Re: #75
Cutting inside from the flank and shooting near-post is his preferred style, so for that kind of play you'd really have to ask Mitoma instead.
    81AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:16
    Re: #75
That's basically just telling Nakamura Keito to play like Mitoma.
    89AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:20
    Re: #75
The manager's an idiot for always sticking wing-backs in a 3-back system that demands a ridiculous amount of running.
For guys like Mitoma, Ito, and Nakamura, a winger spot in a 4-back system is their best fit.
How many of the opponent's crosses did Nakamura clear today, anyway? The only guy who can handle that kind of hard-running workload is Daizen.
    79AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:15
So the best Japan could manage was a draw against the Ecuador that South Korea thrashed 3-0?
Guess South Korea really is >>>>> Japan after all.
    84AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:17
    Re: #79
You can keep posting bait like that, but the gap's gotten so absurd it must feel pretty hollow by now — South Korea's done, just like we saw at the World Cup.
    83AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:16
Honestly, I didn't think Japan would win that shootout.
    I was 100% sure they'd lose.
My bad, I take it back.
    86AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:17
Back when Japan was at its strongest, Mitoma and Ito were both constantly breaking through vertically down the flanks.
Soccer's simple: play the fundamentals right and you win.

In the end, it all comes down to winning those one-on-ones on the flanks and cutting the ball back from the byline.
    That's what it hinges on.
    88AnonymousOct 2, 2026 00:19
    Re: #86
Was there ever actually a time when Japan was 'at its strongest'? lol
They always lose their first knockout-round match without fail.
Best case, it's the round of 16, lol

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Although the Kirin Cup is a friendly tournament, this edition adopted a special rule triggering a penalty shootout if the score is level after 90 minutes — unlike most friendlies, which simply end in a draw — making this shootout itself a rare occurrence. Opinion in the thread split over whether Seko or Tanaka Ao deserved Man of the Match, with some prioritizing defensive stability and composure around the goalkeeper, and others favoring the impact of the incisive vertical passing. The complaints about Sano’s passing errors and the dissatisfaction with the back-five formation look less like a rejection of the tactics themselves and more an expression of fans’ expectations for how individual players are used. It’s also worth noting that the “first time in 15 years” figure mentioned in the thread title isn’t stated anywhere in the article itself, so readers should keep in mind that checking it against past shootout results is left up to them.

※This article is an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Geinou/Sports Hayabusa+) thread “[Soccer] ‘Senior national team wins a penalty shootout for the first time in 15 years’ — Japan beats Ecuador, fans thrilled by Moriyasu Japan’s shootout win [Zion’s reassuring presence is unreal] [Seko is MOM].”
