Yokohama DeNA Falls to 0-3 in the Japan Series—Every Loss a Nail-Biter Decided in Extra Innings

The story

Yokohama DeNA has dropped three straight games to SoftBank in the Japan Series. A postseason stat line quoted in the thread—”SoftBank: 6 wins, 0 losses, 27 runs scored, 13 runs allowed; Yokohama: 6 wins, 3 losses, 26 runs scored, 16 runs allowed”—shows the run differential isn’t nearly as lopsided as the win-loss record suggests. With all three games going to extra innings in nail-biting fashion, many Yokohama fans were vocal about enjoying what they called “razor-thin games” even in defeat. Others, however, questioned the bullpen management—particularly the use of reliever Reynolds—and manager Aikawa’s decisions, which also sparked exchanges with Hanshin fans still smarting from their own past defeat.

Sad but deserved. (5ch shorthand for "unfortunate, but inevitable")
3AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:47
Why are you laughing? They're putting up a real fight in extra innings.
4AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:48
Re: #3
I thought it was a straight-up massacre, but turns out they're being tortured to death slowly instead.
20AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:56
I'm a Lions fan, but this year made me start hating Yokohama fans.
I hope they just keep losing like this, pathetically.
24AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:57
Re: #20
Then give us Kuwahara back.
23AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:56
Honestly, this makes it clear why they beat Hanshin.
Right now, Yokohama is clearly the second-strongest team after SoftBank.
29AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:57
Re: #23
Sadly, that just shows how low the level of NPB really is.
32AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:58
Giving you hope right up to the wire in all three games before crushing it is just brutal.
Getting blown out from the middle innings with zero hope, like against the Fighters, almost feels kinder.
37AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:00
Re: #32
Smiling even in defeat—that's a good thing.
34AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:59
No wonder the ratings are high.
If every game is this entertaining, even people who don't care end up watching.
Why can't teams play like this during the regular season?
40AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:00
Re: #34
That's because, unless you're a Chunichi Dragons fan (used to dull, low-stakes baseball), this kind of thing would wreck your mental health.
58AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:04
Re: #34
In more ways than one, after a full year of baseball, everyone's right at their limit.
35AnonymousOct 27, 2026 21:59
But since it went to extra innings three games in a row,
one bounce the other way and it could've been DeNA leading 3-0 instead.
45AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:01
Re: #35
If Aikawa were a master tactician, that could've happened.
47AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:02
Re: #35
Exactly this.
Wins and losses are hanging by a thread, which is what makes this year's Japan Series so fun.
42AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:01
Say what you will, Yokohama fans are still enjoying themselves even in defeat this year.
Though I genuinely don't get the guys who lost it over that failed replay challenge today, screaming "ump! ump!" nonstop.
61AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:05
Re: #42
Taking the lead and then going to extra innings three games straight—that must be fun, huh.
48AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:02
Using Reynolds over and over in a short series when he gives up runs every single time—that's a serious lack of learning ability.
Aikawa should resign over this.
53AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:03
Re: #48
Sadly, there's no better setup man or closer than Reynolds, so it can't be helped.
57AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:04
Re: #53
I think today the only path to winning was letting Higashino throw a complete game,
or having Iwata pitch across multiple innings.
66AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:06
Re: #57
A complete game from Higashino was the bare minimum.
Aikawa must've had Game 7 on his mind and gotten overly ambitious.
63AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:05
Postseason stats:
SoftBank: 6 wins, 0 losses, 27 runs scored, 13 runs allowed
Yokohama: 6 wins, 3 losses, 26 runs scored, 16 runs allowed
83AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:11
Re: #63
Comparing them from Yokohama's side, that's -1 run scored and +3 runs allowed.
For that to turn into 3 losses, the margin is genuinely razor-thin.
72AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:07
Re: #66
If you're thinking ahead, it's odd they didn't pitch him in Game 1…
75AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:08
Re: #72
Whether it's the bunt calls or the starting lineup, there's no reading what goes on inside Aikawa's head.
73AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:08
Once it goes to extra innings, the talent gap shows.
SoftBank had their winning-pattern relievers lined up all the way through the 12th.
80AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:10
Re: #73
Matsumoto wasn't available today, so with Sugiyama in the 10th and Hernandez in the 11th, I was curious what they'd do for the 12th.
Though it ended before that.
95AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:15
Last year's Hanshin at least won one game.
For these 'Hama-trash' (a slur blending Yokohama's nickname 'Hama' with 'kasu,' meaning trash) to finish third in the regular season and still pull this off, it's just pathetic.
104AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:20
Re: #95
The 'Han-chin' crowd (mocking nickname for Hanshin fans) who got swept 4-0 themselves have no room to talk.
109AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:21
Re: #95
And remind me, which team lost four straight at home to that very 'Hama' squad (three of those losses were shutouts)?
96AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:16
The final score was close, but watching the games, you could feel a pretty big gap.
99AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:18
Re: #96
In the end, whoever's still winning after 9 innings is the stronger team.
Getting caught with just one pitch or one out left to go means something was missing.
Whether it's the 8th-inning setup man or the 9th-inning closer who gives up the big hit, that's a difference in team strength too.
110AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:21
A beer-shower celebration after winning the Climax Series, only to lose four straight—now that's legendary. Absolutely shameful.
112AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:23
Re: #110
Which team are you even a fan of?
111AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:22
Re: #109
Sato and Morishita were just injured, that's all.
What's trash Yokohama even saying to a Hanshin team that's won the pennant 3 times in 4 years lol
117AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:27
Re: #111
They were both there for Games 1 and 4, and you still lost though, right?
137AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:35
Is there perhaps a passenger among you who can whistle!? (riffing on the classic in-flight announcement "is there a doctor on board?")
144AnonymousOct 27, 2026 22:39
Re: #137
There's plenty in Makuhari. (home turf of the Lotte Marines, known for their whistling fans)

Re: #137
Lotte fans have them to spare.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This appears to be the 2026 Japan Series, where Yokohama DeNA has dropped three straight games to SoftBank. The numbers quoted in the thread—”Postseason record: SoftBank 6 wins, 0 losses, 27 runs scored, 13 runs allowed; Yokohama 6 wins, 3 losses, 26 runs scored, 16 runs allowed”—became the central point of debate. While the win-loss record looks lopsided, the run differential is razor-thin, and that sense of “razor-thin margins” is part of what’s energized Yokohama fans even in defeat. Opinion split over bullpen management: some praised letting Higashino go the distance or having Iwata cover multiple innings, while others questioned continuing to use reliever Reynolds in high-leverage spots during a short series where he kept struggling. Manager Aikawa’s decisions drew both support and criticism. Meanwhile, the back-and-forth with Hanshin fans is rooted in old rivalry over past Climax Series results—a separate thread of context from this particular 0-3 deficit, worth keeping in mind to avoid confusion.
