The story

At “Guangzhou APF2026,” an anime-song festival held in Guangzhou, China in early October, a video called “INMU KING” tied to the Japanese internet meme “Yajuu Senpai” was screened, and footage of hundreds of young attendees going wild to the “Inmu Dance” spread across social media — total views across related videos reached 27.4 million. The clip of fans shrieking broken Japanese while dancing drew reactions on 5ch too, with posters split over why the bit resonates with young Chinese people, and over how to read the mystique of “Yajuu Senpai,” whose performer has never once come forward.

■ 27.4 million total views: “INMU KING” fever crosses the sea

“Tadokoro Kouji, Tadokoro Kouji, omai yarimasu ne sugee, uh, uh, UH!”

A young Chinese woman shrieks in broken Japanese, thrusting her hips as she dances wildly, while the crowd around her gets just as hyped, moving to the same pumping music. In another clip, hundreds of young people gathered in front of the stage lose themselves in the “Inmu Dance” as “Yajuu Senpai” footage plays behind them. This is the scene from “Guangzhou APF2026,” a large-scale anime-song club event and subculture festival held in Guangzhou, China in early October — and the footage has been exploding across social media ever since.

Honestly, watching the 'Osaka night view' video channel is way more entertaining than watching Peace-kun (a famously deadpan ostrich mascot at Omiya Park Zoo) on YouTube.
5AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:18
What even is Yajuu Senpai anyway?
I never have occasion to watch gay porn clips,
and tons of videos have been made about him, but I have no clue what it is and it's not even funny.

Hurry it up already! ("Akushiroyo!" — a famous catchphrase from the genre) Homos are impatient, you know.
7AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:19
Kind of sad he hasn't made a single yen off this lol
If he came forward and sold portrait rights and official merch he'd be a billionaire.

Re: #7
Both lawyer Karasawa and Syamu lost all their hype the moment they came forward themselves.
It's precisely because he never shows up that this stays exciting.
40AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:42
Re: #7
Anyone at the level of actually selling merch wouldn't come forward either — staying shrouded in mystery is exactly what makes him a legend.
11AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:22
Wait, is homo/gay stuff actually okay in China?
80AnonymousOct 21, 2026 14:16
Re: #11
The Communist Party rates it highly because it mocks homosexuality from the heart, so this content specifically gets a pass on censorship.
14AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:24
This could actually be used to help fix the worsening Japan-China relationship.
15AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:24
It all started with the director's "tamageta" (a stock exclamation from the genre, meaning "I was stunned") and now it's gotten big enough to shake an entire nation.
That in itself is stunning.

So everything up through this year's Yajuu Senpai Day counts as "Before INMU KING,"
and starting next year it'll be "After INMU KING," huh.
Something about next year already scares me a little…

The part where they breakdance during the "♪ forever an internet treasure~" line is so damn cool.

We East Asians study too much, that's why we're all a bit crazy in the head 🤣
25AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:29
If you blasted Inmu content on a battlefield, it'd probably bring peace.
27AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:30
China might actually be more free than you'd think, as long as you don't criticize the Communist Party.
You could never air something like this in an Islamic country.

Re: #27
If anything, this is the kind of music video that would send Christians into a rage lol 🤣
33AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:36
I do think the online culture of mocking gay men is discriminatory, so why does it get so much hype?
Lesbian stuff never blows up like this—
why is gay content considered funny?
49AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:48
Re: #33
If I analyze it seriously: Inmu and gay jokes don't poke at any complexes that "loser" men have.

Most mainstream content revolves around work, romance, marriage, income, education — things that constantly poke at a loser man's insecurities and trauma. But Inmu and gay jokes have zero connection to any of that, so those men can mock it without feeling a shred of negative emotion.
It's basically the same mechanism as fujoshi (female BL fans) getting hooked on BL (boys' love) content.

I figured he only did the one film, but turns out he's been in quite a few.
Total homo, lol.
95AnonymousOct 21, 2026 14:33
Re: #47
Why the hell do you even know all this…
59AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:57
Not just Yajuu Senpai himself —
what's crazy is that not a single cast member or staffer has ever come forward either.
I think that mystery is part of what turns it into a legend.

Re: #59
Well, the lead actor is married with kids now, after all.
60AnonymousOct 21, 2026 13:58
So this dumb, unfunny bit is actually popular in China, huh.
65AnonymousOct 21, 2026 14:03
Re: #60
China hasn't been infected by PC thinking the way the West has, and it's a far more unequal society than Japan — with a much bigger proportion of "loser" men than Japan. That's fertile ground for Inmu jokes to catch on.

I wonder why Inmu is popular in China too?
Do Asians just all share the same funny bone??

Re: #79
It basically boils down to it trashing Christianity nonstop 🤣

Re: #79
It started as a cult hit on Niconico, but once Bilibili came along, Inmu-related content didn't get caught by censorship, so people could do whatever they wanted with it — and it exploded into a full-blown craze.
99AnonymousOct 21, 2026 14:36
If Xi Jinping ever says he wants to meet Yajuu Senpai, somebody's gonna have to make that happen.
101AnonymousOct 21, 2026 14:37
Re: #99
He probably doesn't even know about any of this in the first place.
We don't even know if Yajuu Senpai is still alive,
and he might well wish nobody would touch this at all.

Background and key points of this discussion

“Yajuu Senpai” is a figure from a scene in an early-2000s adult video that got turned into a meme through the “Inmu” (lewd-dream) culture that originated on Niconico Douga and 2channel; the performer has never once revealed his real identity in roughly 20 years. Posters on the thread pointed out that this very anonymity is exactly what keeps the legend alive. Some posts suggested the trend caught on in China partly because the video platform Bilibili was less likely to flag this kind of content for censorship — but that’s just one poster’s personal theory, not an officially confirmed fact. The same caution applies to posts speculating about why the Communist Party lets this content slide — that, too, is just speculation within the thread. Against the backdrop of strained Japan-China relations, the thread showed its usual mixed character: some comments framed this cultural exchange in a positive light, while others drifted off into unrelated political tangents.
