Fire Emblem “Banshisenkou” Reveals Expansion Pass Trailer, Priced at ¥4,400 — 5ch: “They Just Carved It Out and Sold It Separately”

The story

Nintendo’s official “Nintendo Today” app has published footage of the Expansion Pass for the newest Fire Emblem title, Banshisenkou (万紫千紅 — literally “myriad purples, a thousand reds,” a classical idiom for a riot of color). It’s priced at ¥4,400 and went on sale starting today. On 5ch’s Hardware & Industry board — known informally as “Geha” (ゲハ, short for “game hardware,” the board where console-war and industry gossip plays out) — posters piled on criticism of pushing plot details left unexplained in the main story, plus content for side-story characters, into paid DLC, drawing comparisons to past DLC for Fates: Conquest/Birthright, Three Houses, and Engage. At the same time, some users voiced excitement about the newly playable characters, leaving opinion sharply split.

If it's 'Banshi' (万死, "ten thousand deaths" — a pun on the title's pronunciation) then it's such a shit game I already took it back to GameStop.

Re: #4
You're thinking of Wolverine.
6AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:49
LOL, you have to buy the DLC just to find out what's actually going on!!!
9AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:49
Knew they'd patch things up with DLC, and sure enough… Nintendo's been doing more of this kind of DLC lately.
Give me back the days when they made DLC like Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion or Xenoblade 2 — the 'this is how you do it' kind.

Re: #9
More of it? What other games did this kind of DLC?
If you're saying it's become more common, name a few.
69AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:06
Re: #9
Isn't this the same as Xenoblade 2?
12AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:50
This is the textbook definition of bad DLC…
Guess Nintendo's no different.
40AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:56
Re: #12
Yeah, basically.
They carved it out and sold it separately.
15AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:51
Credit where it's due — at least they didn't drop the DLC before launch like Pokémon does.
Though it leaked a while back that it was already finished, so they must've been working on it from the start.
37AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:56
Re: #15
How is this any different from Pokémon?
If anything Pokémon's better since they announce the DLC up front.
19AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:52
I don't want to install some random app, so at least write a summary.
Useless.
29AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:55
The base game's already ¥10,000 and they want more on top of that?
Those 4 side-story characters should've been in from the start…
48AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:58
Re: #29
No, that's way too many.
Even just Theodora and Dietrich alone would already be pushing it.
34AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:55
Still making us chew flavorless gum, huh?

Note: “flavorless gum” is a Japanese turn of phrase for being milked for more after all the value’s already gone — i.e., paying again for something that should’ve given everything the first time.

41AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:57
Nintendo's gotten blatant about selling unfinished games now.
47AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:58
Re: #41
Well, 'Banshi' itself already felt like it lost its way during development and got rushed out unfinished to hit the deadline.
42AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:57
Honestly it sucked that Orhel barely got any support conversations, and in the end his true identity was just hinted at and never actually confirmed.
I was hoping for a scene where Kai or Aurora find out who he really is.
Guess the message is 'pay extra and we'll show you the part you're curious about.'
66AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:05
Re: #42
But there's already enough info in the base game to guess he's the robot housing Yu-Fas's soul after being rendered down into soup.

Note: “rendered down into soup” refers to an in-universe plot detail from the main game, not a figure of speech.

Kai's grandma as a playable lead?? That's amazing!!

It's out today but there's no price announcement, so how much is it?
53AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:01
Re: #45
It's already live — ¥4,400.
71AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:06
Re: #53
Same as that 'Poko Ato' thing?
Pricey.
115AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:20
Re: #53
Prices have gone up.
I'm hooked though, so I don't really have a choice but to buy it.

Note: “Poko Ato” is an unclear reference — likely shorthand for another recent title’s DLC pricing that posters would have recognized at the time.

49AnonymousOct 15, 2026 09:58
Hard to find DLC worse than Fire Emblem's.
Been like this since Conquest/Birthright on 3DS —
you don't even get a proper ending without buying the DLC.
52AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:00
Re: #49
What are you talking about, this one doesn't even wrap up even if you buy the DLC.
At least Engage's 'Hidden World' DLC was clearly cut off as its own self-contained side story.

By the way, did Kennosuke end up buying a PS5 and Wolverine?
61AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:05
Re: #55
Being able to properly recruit Mama Aurora too is just amazing!!

Note: “Kennosuke” appears to be a streamer or poster known to the thread; the PS5/Wolverine remark is a tangent unrelated to Fire Emblem.

56AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:02
Genuinely glad I held off.
Games like this are way more fun played with the DLC content included from the first run.
Good call — playing the incomplete version would've been painful.
62AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:05
Re: #56
Doing all 8 routes back-to-back with that much content could actually kill you.
74AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:07
Can't wait for 2027!!

I always think about this, but:
— Try to open a video from Nintendo's X account, and you get bounced to a Nintendo webpage.
— Then you have to go hunt for the video there, and if an age-15+ warning pops up along the way, you scroll back up and agree to it.
— Then you hunt for the video again, tap it, and it reopens through your YouTube account.
Does Nintendo seriously not care that they make people do this every single time?
79AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:09
Re: #76
Just open it in the 'Today' app.
81AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:09
Re: #76
There's no agreement prompt, and it plays fine straight from the embedded link — sounds like a problem on your end.
78AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:09
Feels like they think anything goes as long as it's aimed at Fire Emblem fans.
87AnonymousOct 15, 2026 10:11
Re: #78
The one thing that really sets off Fire Emblem fans is KMR.
As long as there's no meltdown-inducing news that KMR is involved even more than before, most of them will put up with just about anything.

Note: “KMR” is shorthand the thread uses for a specific staff member associated with the series’ development; the reference isn’t spelled out further here.

Background and Talking Points

The Fire Emblem series has a track record of using paid DLC to fill in story content left out of the main game — from Fates: Conquest/Birthright on the 3DS, to Three Houses, to the most recent entry, Engage. Criticism built up in the thread over the sense of déjà vu that Banshisenkou is repeating the same pattern. At the same time, some posters pointed out that even DLC from the Three Houses development team didn’t necessarily reveal everything, so there was no real consensus in the thread on just how much ground this new DLC is meant to cover. On the ¥4,400 price, some compared it to DLC pricing from other publishers’ titles released around the same time, so the pushback wasn’t purely about the price being high in isolation. There were also references to the development staff, but these concerned publicly known facts about the development team rather than personal attacks on any individual.
