The story

Yomiuri TV’s new program “News to” (weekdays at 1:55 PM) began airing on October 6. The MC is announcer Chiaki Kuroki, and on the first episode five commentators appeared, including Tomio Umezawa and Nao of Maximum the Hormone. On 5ch, because the time slot and the vibe of the lineup resembled the station’s longtime flagship show “Joho Live Miyane-ya,” the label “Miyane-ya without Miyane” spread quickly, and opinions split over whether the show actually feels fresh and how to read the first episode’s ratings.

10/6 (Tue) 2:49 PM

The new Nippon TV-affiliated, Yomiuri TV-produced program “News to” (Mon-Fri, 1:55 PM) aired live on the 6th.

At the top of the show, the station’s Monday-to-Thursday MC, announcer Chiaki Kuroki (32), introduced Tuesday’s commentators. Five guests appeared: Tomio Umezawa; Nao, drummer/vocalist of Maximum the Hormone; education advisor Akihiro Shimizu; Bungei Shunju’s Rina Kuroiwa; and lawyer Shuya Nomura, a professor at Chuo University’s law school.

Did they just want to cut Miyane loose?

Re: #2
Other way around — Miyane just wanted to quit.

Re: #2
Also, Gadarukanaru Taka and Akari Suda got cut too.
4AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:43
Turned it off the second that lawyer guy showed up.
7AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:46
I'd already stopped watching because the commentators were annoying — Miyane included.
8AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:46
Seems like a lot of people will dislike Kuroki handing down judgments unilaterally.
10AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:47
The commentators are annoying on top of being boring.
11AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:47
The new female MC is just way too bland.
33AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:57
Re: #11
The MC's trying too hard — her voice is grating.
14AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:48
Is this announcer actually popular in the Kansai region?
51AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:16
Re: #14
Misaki Ohnita is more popular.
59AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:29
Re: #14
I like Mao Hayashi better.
15AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:49
Miyane had his own annoying habit of talking over people too.
16AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:50
Commentators straight out of a morning tabloid talk show.
17AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:50
As "Miyane-ya without Miyane," it's honestly not a bad show.
I think I'll watch this over Gogosuma.
19AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:52
At this rate it won't last three months (´・ω・`)
25AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:53
It's rough that Furutachi, the ex-Finance-Ministry woman, and the OB-GYN — people the host gets along with on the talk show "Soko Made Itte Iinkai" — are the weekday regulars on rival show Gogosuma airing in the same slot.

Re: #6
Why did Miyane quit anyway?
37AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:01
Re: #27
He was originally just a regular salaryman, so maybe it feels like hitting retirement age for him.
29AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:55
The announcer alone would've been fine.
It's the commentator lineup that's awful.
They should all just be actual experts.
30AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:56
Doesn't feel fresh at all.
Dumb move — they should've swapped out the whole cast, at least for the first stretch.
31AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:56
What made Miyane-ya fun was the Miyane-vs-Maruoka sparring, so they should bring in a commentator who can go toe-to-toe with announcer Kuroki — someone like Suda.
34AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:58
She hosts "Itte Iinkai," right?
That's why the Yomiuri TV president is raving about her — she's the network's top-pick announcer.
35AnonymousOct 6, 2026 15:58
The commentator count went up, right? Also, does that Chuo University lawyer actually teach classes?
39AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:04
Is Nakayama getting the axe?
53AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:18
Re: #39
Nakayama said his schedule book is completely blank now.

"News to" just doesn't click for me.
Since it's Kuroki, something like "Itte Iinkai Every Day" would've made more sense…
41AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:05
Yesterday had a special-demand bump, but today in the back half it got overtaken by Gogosuma in real-time ratings.
Also, in Nagoya, Aibou (Partners) is strong lol
58AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:29
Re: #41
Overtaken? It was only a 1% gap from the very start.
62AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:34
Is this filmed in Tokyo?
64AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:37
Re: #62
It's broadcast live from a Yomiuri TV studio.
74AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:53
Sounds like the ratings were surprisingly good right out of the gate.
76AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:57
Re: #74
In real-time ratings it got crushed by a huge margin though. Strange, isn't it.
79AnonymousOct 6, 2026 17:00
Production costs must've dropped a ton lol
80AnonymousOct 6, 2026 17:01
Re: #79
Yeah, I bet they saved a ton.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

“News to” is Yomiuri TV’s newly launched daily program, and because its weekday-afternoon slot and its format of bringing on commentators closely resemble the station’s longtime flagship show “Joho Live Miyane-ya,” the framing “Miyane-ya without Miyane” stood out on 5ch. The thread split mainly into two camps: one frustrated that the number and selection of commentators hasn’t really changed (questioning whether the show feels genuinely new), and the other debating the first episode’s ratings, with some calling them strong and others pointing out that in real-time ratings the show was running neck-and-neck with a rival station. The article itself doesn’t go into the actual circumstances behind Shinji Miyane’s departure from the show, so the thread’s guess that it was “something like hitting retirement age” should be treated as unverified speculation, not confirmed fact.
