The story
A thread on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board claimed the PS5 had been jailbroken all the way up to its latest firmware, leaving online matches overrun with cheaters. But replies quickly pushed back with technical objections: “What’s actually jailbroken only goes up to FW13.60, not the current FW14.10” and “You need the latest firmware just to connect online, so a jailbroken console can’t get on PSN at all” — casting doubt on the original poster’s claim itself. The thread also drifted into the long history of piracy in Japan and abroad going back to the PSP and DS days, plus the risk of console bans, so it never quite became the simple “SONY is finished” story it started out as.
What people said
I think it's going to blow up into a huge controversy.
PlayStation puts a ton of weight on competitive online play.
If it gets flooded with cheaters, the games become unplayable.
Truly a scoundrel (using an old-school insult).
Don't act like Japanese people have great manners after seeing the lawlessness back in the PSP and DS days.
Even Sony's own execs (mockingly nicknamed "Sonynini") basically said they didn't care as long as the console itself sold.
There's no defending the PSP, full stop.
Nintendo even took DS flashcart ("magicom") makers to court, but Sony just let its piracy problem slide.
Listen up: right now jailbreaking only works up to FW13.60, not the latest version.
You absolutely need the latest firmware to connect to PSN.
The latest firmware is 14.10,
so staying jailbroken and playing online at the same time is impossible.
The fact that OP doesn't even know this proves he doesn't own a PS5 lol
Besides, anyone who jailbreaks their console never updates the firmware in the first place.
Same thing happened with 13.6 —
it's always like this: the newest version is already cracked behind the scenes,
the info just gets shared quietly among hackers,
and it's often jailbroken way before word gets out.
Publicizing how to jailbreak the newest firmware risks an expensive lawsuit from Sony,
so the trend is:
a few hours after a new firmware drops,
they release the jailbreak for the *previous* one instead.
So the hacker crews are actually already cheating on the latest firmware,
and yes, you do run into cheaters on PSN online play.

The bigger always contains the smaller — high-spec PCs can already emulate the PS5,
so eventually PS5/XSX will be able to emulate not just the Switch 1 but the Switch 2 too….. damn, this is just absurd.
The PS5's too weak for this, it's super choppy.
But I guess Nintendo's Breath of the Wild is such a masterpiece they just had to play it anyway.
So far it's reached the point where you can play PC games, original Xbox games, and every Nintendo game up through the Switch 1.
Apparently the PS5's internals are basically a PC.
But you won't be able to play GTA6 without updating.
So right now it's: don't update and you get emulation, update and you get GTA6.
A spoofed firmware (one that fakes its version number) will show up soon and make it work.
Even if the game gets cracked and people can cheat, the PS Plus monthly subscription fee is the ultimate wall — it's not going to boost the numbers lol
That takes me back to the fire-sale prices at Kojima (the Japanese electronics retail chain)!
I think it was like half the retail price, so that's the only time in my life I camped out overnight to buy a console.
If this happened today there'd be a ton of people desperate enough to do the same.
Get caught doing that on a Pro and the ¥130,000 hardware you bought becomes a paperweight that can't even play games.
Since the PS5 has console-level bans,
buying a used console is about to get a lot riskier.
Nintendo, a company that only builds out-of-place artifacts ("OOPArts" — tech that seems ahead of its time).
The original Switch has been emulated though.
Yeah, that one's obviously an impostor.
Eventually the console itself will disappear too, so no worries, no worries.
Sony's very own Zelda, huh!
The list of compatible emulators has gotten out of hand.

That very firmware gets jailbroken almost instantly.
A joke that writes itself.
GTA6 doesn't even have a physical disc release in the first place, so how exactly is anyone supposed to pirate it?
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
With consoles like the PS5, it’s standard practice for hacker groups not to publicize a newly found jailbreak method right away — instead, they reveal the previous generation’s method once the next firmware version drops. That’s why rumors like “the latest version is already cracked” tend to spread ahead of the facts. At the same time, online services like PSN require the latest firmware just to connect, which means a console kept jailbroken generally can’t take part in online matches at all — so the “jailbroken and overrun with cheaters” scenario raised in the thread isn’t really likely to happen in practice. The existence of console bans (where an account or a specific piece of hardware gets locked out entirely) is another factor keeping the real-world risk of using a jailbreak in check. Given the long history of piracy culture dating back to the PSP and DS era, it remains to be seen — at least as of this thread — how much real-world damage this latest episode will actually cause compared to past cases.
