“Dawngazer” Officially Confirmed for Xbox as 72-Hour Block Period Ends

The story

Dawngazer, the new title from the developers of Unicorn Overlord (slated for a 2028 release), was originally announced as a PS5 exclusive — but exactly 72 hours after that announcement, an Xbox Series X|S version was officially confirmed. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, discussion flared up around the suspiciously neat “72 hours” and the phrase “in response to many requests from our users” in the announcement, with posters split between thinking the Xbox version was planned all along and thinking the tiny dev team was simply able to change course quickly.

In response to many requests from our users, after careful consideration we have decided to add Xbox Series X|S to the list of supported platforms for “Dawngazer.”

They were screaming "hako-gaa, hako-gaa!" (mocking chant for Xbox fans loudly complaining about being snubbed) right up until this dropped, then scattered like startled spiders — cracked me up lol

Re: #4
It's genuinely hilarious how they've gone completely silent about this since the announcement — way too inconvenient for them, huh.
7AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:22
Guess Sony ran out of money and can't afford to block sales anymore
9AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:22
It won't even sell, so why bother — idiots
11AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:24
Re: #9
If it wasn't gonna sell they wouldn't bother releasing it there, would they, genius?
18AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:27
Re: #11
Then show me proof something actually sold. What's ever sold on that crap-box, ever?
10AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:24
No way you add a whole platform in exactly 3 days flat — obviously this was decided from the start lol
19AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:27
Re: #10
It's a company with only 5 staff. Normal logic doesn't apply here.
68AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:03
Re: #19
A studio with only 5 staff, and they can make a whole new hardware decision in just 3 days?

Wait… where's Kemuri?
Didn't they say the staff were dying from overwork?
Where's Kemuri now??
12AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:25
Xbox's done this exact move before too, like with the Persona games
13AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:25
Hope you enjoyed your 72 hours of feeling superior?
14AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:26
Oink oink oink oink, guess who's getting snubbed now! wwwwwwwwww (mocking "buhi" oink noise used for PS5/Sony fanboys)

Re: #14, Re: #39
Honestly can't tell if these guys are joking or dead serious 😅
15AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:26
The whole point was that it wasn't coming to Xbox, you idiots. Now not a single PS5 owner is gonna bother buying it.
17AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:27
It wouldn't have mattered if they'd skipped it, but they went out of their way to release it anyway lol
20AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:28
"Many users"? Were there even that many of them?
23AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:29
Xbox owners are always said to have a tiny market share but a loud mouth — guess the devs actually caved to that
29AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:32
Lol they got played — it's probably just one guy making noise like he's a thousand people
34AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:34
Re: #29
Well, they've gotta make up for the sales they're missing out on with PS5, so it can't be helped.
33AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:34
Sunsoft's stopped bringing their games to Xbox now, even though the last one was on it.

We are pleased to announce that "SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection 2" will release on December 17, 2026.
Available platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam.

Re: #33
Don't need that one lol. I picked up part 1 on sale for about 150 yen and it was awful — no wonder even the publisher itself treats it like shovelware.
49AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:51
Switch is the one getting snubbed here lol. Getting treated worse than Xbox — is this thing actually even selling? 🤣
56AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:55
Re: #49
It's reasonable not to release on the original Switch in 2028. Though maybe you mistakenly thought it wasn't coming to Switch 2.
58AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:55
Back in the day they could've kept this exclusive lol
59AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:56
Re: #58
"Exclusive"? It's coming to Switch and Steam too, what are you even talking about?
91AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:18
Re: #59
Back then they could've made it a PS exclusive outright. Now all they can manage is failing to block anyone else — at best just pettily harassing Xbox.

That's basically where things stand.
65AnonymousSep 28, 2026 20:59
It wasn't 72 hours, it was 76 hours — so it wasn't a contract, they genuinely just weren't planning to release it on Xbox at all.
69AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:05
Re: #65
What is this guy even talking about
66AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:00
Can something like this really get decided in just 3 days?
70AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:06
Re: #66
Anyone taking that statement at face value is way too naive. Obviously, if you think about it normally, it was decided from the start.
67AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:01
Re: #67
Even if the developer had made the call within 3 days of the announcement, there's no way Microsoft's approval for the announcement comes through in just 3 days. It was decided from the start — they just blocked the Xbox announcement for exactly 72 hours.
73AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:08
Re: #73
Looked it up, apparently approval takes about 48 hours from application.
75AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:09
Re: #73
But that includes a weekend, doesn't it?
76AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:10
Re: #73
Rather than splitting hairs like that —

every unreasonable obstacle thrown at Xbox
is all Sony's doing

you get that, right?
77AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:11
Re: #74
No, that's not even the point here lol
84AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:13
Re: #77
No — if it were a contract, it'd land at exactly 72 hours, right? The fact that it didn't means there's no contract at all.
87AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:15
Re: #84
No way something like this gets decided in just a few days lolol
78AnonymousSep 28, 2026 21:12
Re: #75
The 25th was a business day though

Background and Discussion Points

What the thread calls the “block period” typically refers to a “timed exclusivity” deal, in which the platform holder with the exclusive contract pays to keep announcements and releases on other platforms suppressed for a set window — so it’s hard to believe the decision genuinely flipped purely on user requests, as the announcement’s “in response to many requests from our users” phrasing implies. Thread opinion split over the fact that the developer is a tiny 5-person studio: some argued a small team could make decisions fast, others argued the opposite — that such a small team couldn’t possibly have had the bandwidth. The suspiciously round figure of exactly 72 hours fueled speculation that this was contractually determined from the very start. It’s also worth flagging that the case mentioned in comment 33 — Sunsoft skipping an Xbox release for its retro game collection — involves a completely different publisher and title, and reading it alongside this story as direct evidence would be misleading.
