The story
Dawngazer, the new title from the developers of Unicorn Overlord (slated for a 2028 release), was originally announced as a PS5 exclusive — but exactly 72 hours after that announcement, an Xbox Series X|S version was officially confirmed. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, discussion flared up around the suspiciously neat “72 hours” and the phrase “in response to many requests from our users” in the announcement, with posters split between thinking the Xbox version was planned all along and thinking the tiny dev team was simply able to change course quickly.
In response to many requests from our users, after careful consideration we have decided to add Xbox Series X|S to the list of supported platforms for “Dawngazer.”

It's genuinely hilarious how they've gone completely silent about this since the announcement — way too inconvenient for them, huh.
If it wasn't gonna sell they wouldn't bother releasing it there, would they, genius?
Then show me proof something actually sold. What's ever sold on that crap-box, ever?
It's a company with only 5 staff. Normal logic doesn't apply here.
A studio with only 5 staff, and they can make a whole new hardware decision in just 3 days?
Wait… where's Kemuri?
Didn't they say the staff were dying from overwork?
Where's Kemuri now??
Honestly can't tell if these guys are joking or dead serious 😅
Well, they've gotta make up for the sales they're missing out on with PS5, so it can't be helped.
We are pleased to announce that "SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection 2" will release on December 17, 2026.
Available platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
Don't need that one lol. I picked up part 1 on sale for about 150 yen and it was awful — no wonder even the publisher itself treats it like shovelware.
It's reasonable not to release on the original Switch in 2028. Though maybe you mistakenly thought it wasn't coming to Switch 2.
"Exclusive"? It's coming to Switch and Steam too, what are you even talking about?
Back then they could've made it a PS exclusive outright. Now all they can manage is failing to block anyone else — at best just pettily harassing Xbox.
That's basically where things stand.
What is this guy even talking about
Anyone taking that statement at face value is way too naive. Obviously, if you think about it normally, it was decided from the start.
Even if the developer had made the call within 3 days of the announcement, there's no way Microsoft's approval for the announcement comes through in just 3 days. It was decided from the start — they just blocked the Xbox announcement for exactly 72 hours.
Looked it up, apparently approval takes about 48 hours from application.
But that includes a weekend, doesn't it?
Rather than splitting hairs like that —
every unreasonable obstacle thrown at Xbox
is all Sony's doing
you get that, right?
No, that's not even the point here lol
No — if it were a contract, it'd land at exactly 72 hours, right? The fact that it didn't means there's no contract at all.
No way something like this gets decided in just a few days lolol
The 25th was a business day though
Background and Discussion Points
What the thread calls the “block period” typically refers to a “timed exclusivity” deal, in which the platform holder with the exclusive contract pays to keep announcements and releases on other platforms suppressed for a set window — so it’s hard to believe the decision genuinely flipped purely on user requests, as the announcement’s “in response to many requests from our users” phrasing implies. Thread opinion split over the fact that the developer is a tiny 5-person studio: some argued a small team could make decisions fast, others argued the opposite — that such a small team couldn’t possibly have had the bandwidth. The suspiciously round figure of exactly 72 hours fueled speculation that this was contractually determined from the very start. It’s also worth flagging that the case mentioned in comment 33 — Sunsoft skipping an Xbox release for its retro game collection — involves a completely different publisher and title, and reading it alongside this story as direct evidence would be misleading.
