“PS6 Handheld Will Make Switch 2 Look Prehistoric,” Claims Overseas Post — Skeptics Push Back

From our other sites

The story

An overseas X (formerly Twitter) account posted that “the PS6’s handheld will have graphics so overwhelming it’ll make the Switch 2 look prehistoric,” sparking discussion on 5ch’s game industry board (Geha). Many replies pointed out that the poster is just a fan with no ties to gaming media or any track record in analysis, while others questioned the claim’s feasibility on technical grounds, citing price, heat output, and differences in semiconductor process.

The PS6 will be a handheld that makes the Switch 2 look primitive.

That’s because it’ll pack PS6-level graphics on a handheld screen, while the Switch 2 only has PS4 Pro-level graphics.

Nintendo will always hold onto its position thanks to its wonderful exclusive titles, but compared to PlayStation it’ll remain old-fashioned.

Re: #2
That guy's just a Sony fanboy
He's not an analyst or anything of the sort
No website, no track record as a journalist, doesn't even have a YouTube channel
Are we supposed to believe it just because it's written in his bio?
4AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:50
The real question is whether such a thing will even come out
57AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:00
The more they push this, the more it's gonna flop lol

Re: #4
The punchline's gonna be cloud gaming via PS Portal, right?
6AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:51
If it's not under 100,000 yen, it's a non-starter
8AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:51
You can already do remote play for free on your phone
9AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:51
Apparently it's 8K/480fps, weighs 10 grams, and costs a million yen
10AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:51
It's weaker than a PS5, so in reality they're adding a power-saving mode just to get backward compatibility working — where's this delusional talk even coming from?
13AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:51
It's the same everywhere in the world — these guys flexing over pie-in-the-sky vaporware
Has the PS9 beta already started or something?
14AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:52
100,000 yen, they say! Meanwhile the Switch 2 is already 60,000 yen 🤦
17AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:52
It's "Canis", right?
With specs barely better than today's UMPCs, there's 'absolutely' no way it'll have graphics that overwhelm the Switch 2
18AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:52
Being able to play locally is nice too — makes it easy to pop in and out of sleep mode
21AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:53
They'd probably praise it to the skies even if you just photoshopped a Switch 2 game onto this so-called PS6 Portable's screen
25AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:53
Classic Sony fanboy who only ever tweets about Sony, lol

How many years until a handheld with specs like in Re: #1 could actually ship at a realistic size?
Just looking at heat dissipation alone, that seems like it's a long way off
40AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:57
Re: #32
If you give up on battery life like the GPD Win 5 and accept a screaming-loud fan, you could technically build a PS5-level handheld even now
It'd run insanely hot though
50AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:59
Re: #32
In the end it all comes down to how far you can cut power consumption
We'll only get a portable PS5 once something like a 0.5nm process actually exists
33AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:55
It's cheaper than the Switch 2 and has better specs, so why does the PS5 keep losing every week (in the sales charts)?
39AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:56
Re: #33
Worldwide, the PS5 is crushing the Switch 2
It just launched and is already this far behind — even overseas 'Nishi' (a derogatory 5ch term for diehard Nintendo fanboys) are admitting defeat
43AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:57
Guess there are guys like Kiyoshi Tane (a Japanese game journalist notorious for over-the-top pro-Nintendo takes) overseas too
45AnonymousAug 25, 2026 19:58
Re: #43
Maybe this is where 'Tane' launders his takes through someone else
66AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:03
Re: #43
No, this isn't Tane
He's not even a journalist — just some overseas nobody (original calls him "gikkuri," an obscure put-down)
54AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:00
The Switch 2's guts are already a generation old, and they're wasting cost on the dock and Joy-Cons, so the performance isn't that high
If Nintendo just made a handheld-only machine at the same price, performance would go up quite a bit
72AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:05
Re: #54
But in reality, PS5 controllers cost more than Joy-Cons
Sad that we're in an era where even the PS Portal costs 40,000 yen ^^

This guy's saying the PS6 Portable comes with a dock, lol

The Switch 2's exclusives are things like Metroid Prime 4 and Yoshi, right?
What's so great about that?
69AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:04
Re: #61
Metroid Prime 4?
78AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:07
Switch 2: ancient 8nm process
PS6 Portable: cutting-edge 2nm process

Nishi (Nintendo fanboys) just can't grasp what a massive gap that already is

Re: #78
Apple's latest iPhone might finally adopt 2nm after years of 'it's coming, it's coming' talk — got a slot open for that too?

The PS6 is 3nm… lol

Thinking the Switch 2, with an architecture that's already about 6 years old, can compete with the latest architecture is pathologically stupid

AMD's latest graphics cards
are basically on par with 6-year-old outdated cards
They can only make stuff that hasn't changed much

The Xbox handheld thing is 170,000 yen, so how much is a PS6 Portable that's supposed to blow way past that going to cost?
110AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:25
Re: #105
If they sell it for around 30,000 yen, I might actually buy one
122AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:30
It's going to be a handheld on par with the PS6?
There's no way that's happening, however you slice it
125AnonymousAug 25, 2026 20:31
Re: #122
If the goal's set too high, just lower the goal to eye level
Simple, right?

Background and Key Points

Sony has never announced a PS6, let alone a PS6 handheld — the only mass-market Sony “portable” console history offers is the PS Vita (2011, killed off by 2019) and, more recently, the PS Portal (2023), which is not a standalone console but a streaming client that needs a PS5 and a network connection to run anything. The Switch 2, by contrast, is a real, shipped product: a self-contained handheld/dockable hybrid built on an Nvidia chip widely reported to be fabbed on an older (roughly Samsung 8nm-class) process, which is why posters treat “PS4 Pro-level” as a reasonable ceiling for its graphics. Bridging that to “PS6-level” performance in a fan-sized, battery-powered device is a real engineering problem: smaller nodes (3nm, 2nm) cut power draw per transistor, but cooling, battery capacity, and cost all scale badly once you chase console-class GPUs in a handheld shell — which is exactly why commenters brought up heat, price, and process generation rather than raw specs.

The thread didn’t split over whether Sony could technically build something powerful — it split over credibility: is a claim from an anonymous fan account with no journalism track record worth treating as insider information at all, versus dismissing it outright as fanboy wish-casting. Nobody in the thread engaged with the more basic fact that no PS6 hardware, portable or otherwise, has been confirmed by Sony in any form, timeline, or spec — so the entire debate about nanometers and dock designs is built on a premise the original poster invented, not on anything Sony has disclosed.
