Full-body checkups are basically brainwashing centers, so going there is risky.

Re: #3
It just bumps your odds of early detection a little. And that's only if you go once a year.

Re: #3
Once you're past 40 you should get regular colonoscopies.
Colon cancer is the #1 cancer killer for women, and #2 for men after lung cancer.
Catch polyps early and remove them, and your lifetime colon cancer risk drops massively.
Stool occult blood tests aren't very accurate.

Lol, that got me.

Tomizawa's over 50, so fine, but Kondo Haruna, aren't you more than a full zodiac cycle (12+ years) younger than him?

Bet your blood pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol, and uric acid are all flagged too.

My dad loved black coffee too. So it's real, huh.

Idegawa, did you give up on 'the power of rocks'? (a callback to one of his old health-tip bits)

Just don't eat so much.
The brain is the root cause of everything.
Fix whatever's wrong in the brain and everything else falls into place.

What's even the point of paying big money for a full checkup then, lol

Feels like fat people get wrecked by heart problems but somehow dodge cancer.

Chiemi Hori, Kuwaman, Ozura, Akira Hokuto — those are the ones that come to mind as pretty overweight.

Re: #25
Before cancer even gets a shot, they're already at death's door from a sudden heart attack or stroke, or slowly dying off from diabetes, high cholesterol, or high uric acid. And on top of that, obesity is also said to raise the risk of several cancers, including colon cancer.

With ureter stones, if something feels off when I pee, I make a point of drinking a lot more water.
28AnonymousSep 18, 2026 19:12
It was genuinely brutal — had no choice but to get surgery this year, and the pain when peeing afterward was almost unbearable. Once that's over though, it's heaven.

My belly's been packing on fat lately, it's kind of scary.
32AnonymousSep 18, 2026 19:15
Yeah, being obese really does mean living an unhealthy, sloppy life…

Re: #32
Political correctness says criticizing body types is a no-go, but come on, it's clearly unhealthy.

I wonder if kidney stones are genetic? My mom's had them twice, and apparently my grandma did too. I take after my dad so I should be fine, but… They say eating too many persimmons is bad, or that if you don't properly remove the bitterness from spinach it makes stones more likely to form. I've got some kind of stomach hernia thing myself, but it's not an issue.
51AnonymousSep 18, 2026 19:38
Re: #45
Yeah, genetics plays a huge role. Overdoing it can trigger illness in anyone, but when someone gets stones on a regular basis — like Tomizawa's 6th time in 2 years — that's genetics.
53AnonymousSep 18, 2026 19:38
True, I'm skinny as a rail, so even at 47 I've got zero issues — no knee pain, no back pain, no headaches. Only problem is I'm hopelessly stupid.
55AnonymousSep 18, 2026 19:41
Re: #53
Fat people really do call anyone who isn't fat 'skinny as a rail,' huh. Sounds incredibly dumb.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

This episode aired with Takeshi Tomizawa filling in for Mikio Date, who is recovering from a stroke, on TV Tokyo’s health variety show built around full-body-checkup-style segments. The thread’s opinions split over whether full checkups are actually worth getting — some praised their value for early detection, while others were skeptical, arguing that going just once a year doesn’t move the odds much. On the popular belief that “fat people don’t get cancer,” commenters pointed out that other risks like heart disease, diabetes, and high uric acid tend to surface first, and that obesity itself is also said to raise the risk of certain cancers, including colon cancer — so it’s not as simple as the stereotype suggests. Note that the exact illness Tomizawa revealed on the show isn’t specified within the quoted portion of this article; some thread comments are speculation based on his known history of kidney stones, so the official diagnosis should be confirmed via the original article.
