The story
Content related to VTuber Shigure Ui has reportedly been flagged by Google with an 18+ age restriction, meaning it no longer shows up in logged-out or standard search results — a development that’s become a hot topic on 5ch. Thread posters shared what appear to be screenshots taken while searching in incognito mode, sparking surprise and confusion. The story also ties back to an earlier controversy, when Shigure Ui collaborated with a girls’ apparel brand and drew criticism for it not matching her character image — and the thread was split between those defending her and those piling on criticism.

It's become content you can't view unless you're 18+.
It doesn't even show up in a normal search anymore.
Whoa, they actually have a feature like that?
Isn't it the other way around?
The anime got trashed hard by critics too.
Wait, she's actually involved with the anime?
If normal people who'd never in their lives encounter a word like "mesugaki" (a bratty, taunting loli-type character trope) stumble onto this, of course it blows up like this.
This is what happens when you don't listen to the old-timers who keep saying "talk about old-school otaku prejudice in your own lane and stay separated."
Downtrodden lolicon men (net slang for socially low-status guys): "Yaaay!"
VTuber: "Collabing with a girls' apparel brand, lol"
Normal people: "Someone who does lolicon bits doing a collab like this… are they serious?"
Downtrodden lolicon men: "Huh? That song is actually condemning lolicons???"
This is peak cringe.
It's a song that LOOKS like it's condemning lolicons but is actually made for lolicons.
Kind of like an S&M thing.
And she's an indie VTuber on top of that, you know.
That combo made her unstoppable.
Is that Fantia (a Japanese fan-subscription platform)?
🤣🤣🤣
This makes it look exactly like adult content 😭
But she won't be earning off this going forward, so as a job this is basically dead.
The brand that made the offer is at fault, but so is the side that accepted it.
If they understood what kind of character she's selling, they'd have turned it down.
I see this defense sometimes, but do they really think "the main audience isn't kids" holds up when the site's homepage is plastered with photos of children?
Of course the marketing targets the parents' generation too — that's the whole point.
That IS the parents' generation.
They're the ones buying the clothes for their own kids, you know?
🤣🤣🤣
How can you people obsess over her like this every single day?
People are just jealous of someone successful.
Back in the Heisei era, gross-otaku culture had this unspoken truce — people would go "moe~" or "she's my wife!" and others would go "ugh, gross, lol," but everyone just left each other alone. Somewhere along the way people like Re: #77 showed up demanding acceptance, and that's kind of where it all fell apart.
Same with nightlife work — I get the feeling more people can't stand letting others quietly do their own thing on the margins anymore.
Just go collab with Yokoyama Midori instead.
🤣🤣🤣
Background and Key Points of This Story
Google’s search results and content classifications are determined automatically, and an “age-restricted” tag can get applied independently of what the operator or the individual actually wants. What sparked this thread wasn’t an official announcement but a screenshot a user reportedly took while searching in incognito mode — no explanation has been confirmed from Google, from Shigure Ui herself, or from her agency. The thread also conflates this age-restriction issue with the earlier backlash over her collaboration with the girls’ apparel brand Mezzo Piano, but the two are actually separate incidents. The collab controversy blew up over criticism that the brand image didn’t match her character as a VTuber, while this latest development is likely an unrelated change in how the search engine classifies her content. Opinions in the thread are split between those defending Shigure Ui and her fans and those who take issue with both the brand that proposed the collab and her side for accepting it — worth keeping in mind that no confirmed official explanation has surfaced yet.
