The story
At a food stall run by “fighting chef” Komeo’s restaurant “Kappo Komeo” during Tokyo’s Azabu-Juban Summer Festival on August 22-23, numerous customers who ate the chilled crab ramen fell ill. According to the Minato Public Health Center, 76 people had reported fever, diarrhea, and vomiting as of the 28th, and the case is being investigated as a mass food poisoning outbreak. On 5ch, footage from the stall sparked accusations of bare-handed food handling and poor hygiene management, while others speculated the pre-made soup — rather than the crab itself — was to blame, leaving opinions split over the actual cause.

What people said
The corn soup looks suspicious.
Also, how many times are they reusing those gloves?
The water for boiling the noodles not even reaching a boil is sketchy too.

Did he shave his armpits?
Doesn't look tasty.
Not just the look — I can't even picture what it'd taste like.
Even Michelin does its homework before visiting.
One look at this and they'd cross it off the list instantly.
He's an ex-con, after all
— Komeo (a parody of Mitsuo Aida's famous "that's just how it is" poetry style)
The one thing that makes Japanese people totally lose it is food.
My guess is it's something else — like the pre-made soup base or tare that went bad.
Soy sauce and miso are high in salt so they shouldn't spoil, but this doesn't seem to be that.
Since they use soy milk, they can't boil it, so it needs really careful handling.
My guess is the previous day's crab got thrown out, so the crab probably isn't the source.
This is just plain bad kitchen operations causing the outbreak.
Even with fans, there can't be many dedicated enough to eat there every single day.
The Bird Cafe owner caused food poisoning at yet another new restaurant he opened, and didn't seem to take much of a hit for it.
Doesn't seem like he grasps how careful you need to be with chilled food at a summer festival stall.
Isn't that probably not reused either?
My guess is they batch-prep everything and just leave the next day's portion sitting out.

A clean-looking shop doesn't mean it won't cause food poisoning.
I'd love to know why anyone would think food poisoning wouldn't happen when he's pawing at ingredients bare-handed.
In the video, right after this he holds the ramen directly over the sauce and seasonings while eating.
Then he keeps yapping about his impressions afterward.
It's insane luck this hasn't caused food poisoning before now.
Seems like he'd rather be called 'badass' than 'delicious.'

Even here?? lol
Just dump pasta into cold corn soup and you'd get something similar.
Corn-based soups let bacteria multiply fast. Might be that, not the crab.
Hair removal's just normal now, grandpa.
'Letting it sit' = 'letting it ferment.'
A recipe for breeding Clostridium perfringens (a bacteria notorious for causing food poisoning in food left to sit).
Might've reused the ingredients, though.
He's only saying the 'product' wasn't reused —
he never mentions the ingredients or raw materials.
Feels more like a problem with my own stomach than food poisoning.
That's probably the wheat, not the pork broth.
For tonkotsu ramen, I think regular firmness is best (´・ω・`)
He knows in advance when Michelin's coming, so he'll clean up his act just for that visit.
That means he won't even get nominated.
Actually, they're never coming now lol.
I thought Michelin inspectors visit incognito as regular customers specifically to prevent that kind of special treatment. Did that change?
Can't exactly trust the word of a guy who did time for robbery.
That reply is honestly unhinged.
Putting it out as regular household trash would itself be a crime.
If it's business waste, you pay a disposal fee no matter the amount.
Background and key points of this story
Under the Food Sanitation Act, when 50 or more people fall ill from the same cause, public health centers are required to report it up through the prefecture to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare — meaning the figure of 76 is well above that threshold. Komeo is known as a “fighting chef” who moved into the restaurant business after serving time for robbery, and his past has repeatedly come up in the thread. The restaurant has stated that “the product itself was not reused,” but this statement refers only to already-served food, not to the ingredients or soup base used in preparation. Commenters raised several parallel possibilities — a soy-milk-based corn soup, gloves reused on camera, and water that never reached a boil — and it remains a common misunderstanding that the crab itself has been confirmed as the cause. The health center’s final investigation results have not yet been released.
