Hololive’s Laplus Warns Fans — Her ‘Male’ Nickname Sparks Debate

From our other sites

The story

Hololive VTuber Laplus Darkness has stirred up discussion on 5channel after issuing a warning directed at users of the “Nanjer” (何でも実況G, a 5ch sports/variety discussion board) community. She reportedly referred to her male fans as “males” (オス, a term normally used for male animals) in the process, splitting opinion over whether the term itself counts as discriminatory. At the same time, many commenters said they understood the underlying message — asking fans to cut out sexually harassing comments during her streams — so the debate ended up tangled between the appropriateness of the wording and the legitimacy of the request itself.

Why do these 'pigs' think they're on equal footing with VTubers?
5AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:06
I get that the pigs are creepy, but calling men 'males' is just going to earn her ill will, isn't it?
7AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:07
True, but that's a rich thing to say coming from an internet hostess club that makes its living off of 'males'.
8AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:09
This one's basically just doing self-proclaimed voice-actress work these days, isn't she?
11AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:10
Re: #8
Like a hostess who can't sell herself anymore turning to feminism?
9AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:09
It's Marine's fault for having the biggest roster of talent and letting sexual harassment slide.
That group's mass-producing 'cattle' who think 'oh, THIS is how you're supposed to talk to women!'
10AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:09
Isn't 'male' discriminatory as a way to refer to people?
12AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:12
The VTuber I watch said that if there's someone you don't like, just hit 'not interested' instead of disliking the video.
Apparently dislikes actually earn the creator money.
14AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:12
She's the one who attracted all these harassment pigs, so she should take responsibility and quarantine them on her own end.
18AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:15
I just see it as part of her shtick.
24AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:20
Re: #18
It's a personality thing.
Some people just can't help saying stuff like that.
That's not really a 'shtick,' though.

lol they're having a massive wall-of-text argument over there

Re: #20
Gross.
Both the fans and the talent herself are no good.
26AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:20
She just seems to be stating the obvious — why are the pigs losing it over this?
30AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:22
Re: #26
I think 'please stop the harassment' is fine.
But calling them 'males' is a pretty bad way to phrase it.
31AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:22
Re: #26
Her only fans ARE those pigs, so telling the pigs to cut it out is pointless.
It'd be like a hostess telling her only customers to stop harassing her — doesn't make sense.
33AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:23
Re: #26
What's 'obvious' to the shop and what's 'obvious' to the customer don't match.
Arguing about it isn't going to solve anything.
She just couldn't help saying it.
28AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:21
I hate dirty jokes too, so even between streamers who are close friends, I wish they'd drop the sexual-harassment-y banter on stream.
It's basically harassment directed at the viewers.
It's the worst when a streamer I like collabs with someone who's into that kind of humor.
34AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:23
Re: #28
Then just don't watch.
47AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:31
Who outranks who — the pigs or the character art?

Re: #47

Re: #54
Pretty much right, but apparently long streams get tough without comments coming in, so at this point it's less like a peephole and more like a window.
59AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:42
Re: #54
Since she's deliberately running a stream, it's less like peeking into someone's house and more like a street performance — that's closer to the vibe.
63AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:48
Is Iroha about the only one in holoX who hasn't caused a controversy? 🙄
64AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:48
Re: #63
You're saying that knowing full well, right? 🙄
68AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:50
If this is enough to set off a controversy, the pigs clearly haven't been trained properly.
71AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:00
Re: #68
Is it really a 'training' issue like you're making it out to be?
72AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:01
Re: #68
Though not complaining about this would make you lower than a pig.
69AnonymousOct 18, 2026 08:56
This is clearly a post written by someone other than her.
81AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:04
Re: #69
So you're saying the agency officially called male fans 'males'?
73AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:01
What is this even in response to?
80AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:04
Re: #78
That counter-argument doesn't land — you're just stabbing yourself with it.
88AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:06
Re: #80
lol she's still losing it
83AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:04
Honestly, if you took Peko and Marine out of Hololive, the company would be finished.
Why's this one acting so high and mighty?
87AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:05
Re: #83
The clique members carry a lot of weight no matter how you look at it.
91AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:07
Re: #83
Because unlike other agencies, this company doesn't actually move to protect its talent.
Even when things blow up into controversy, they're on their own to handle it.
104AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:12
Re: #83
This is exactly why I can't stand fans of these two.
98AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:10
Re: #88
Okay, I get it already, you're persistent. Fine, you win, whatever.
101AnonymousOct 18, 2026 09:11
Re: #98
lol the harassment guy getting all worked up

Background and Key Points of the Debate

What stands out about this thread is the split between those who take issue with the term “male” itself and those who support the substance of the warning — a request to stop sexually harassing comments during streams. Warnings and controversies over sexual remarks and the appropriate distance between VTubers and fans come up again and again in this scene, and this incident is an extension of that pattern. That said, it’s worth noting that the full original statement is never quoted in the thread, so the context in which the word “male” was actually used can only be pieced together from fragmentary quotes. Whether the term itself was appropriate and whether the content of the warning was justified are, in principle, separate questions, but in the thread the two kept getting discussed as one.
