Amazon Launches “Prime Thanksgiving Sale” — 5ch: “I’ve Never Once Found Something I Actually Wanted”

The story

Amazon will hold its “Prime Thanksgiving Sale” from October 16 at 12:00 AM through October 19 at 11:59 PM, with an early sale running from the 13th to the 15th. The announcement promises special pricing on over 4 million items, but on 5ch, discussion centered less on how much of a deal it actually was and more on distrust of third-party sellers and the rising prices of Amazon’s own devices. While some said consumables like protein powder and coffee are worth waiting for the sale, others pointed out that items like Fire tablets have kept getting pricier over the years, making it feel like “it doesn’t actually feel any cheaper.”

Amazon will hold “Prime Thanksgiving Sale,” an event exclusive to members of its “Amazon Prime” membership program—which offers a variety of perks spanning shopping and entertainment—from October 16 at 12:00 AM through October 19 at 11:59 PM.

Most of it's probably sketchy Chinese-made stuff, though
5AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:29
It's just the same old inventory clearance sale every time, isn't it
6AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:29
Isn't there always some sale going on?

Re: #6
The standard move is to wait on anything you're not in a rush for until a sale hits, so you can stack up points
12AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:31
Might be better off just buying from AliExpress or Temu??

Re: #12
Aside from branded goods, it's all the same stuff being sold. The only difference is whether the factory is selling it direct or not
52AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:43
Re: #12
The fact that that's even a viable option is depressing
13AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:31
I basically only buy consumables that aren't stocked anywhere nearby
14AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:31
It'll arrive in an envelope with an eggplant-shaped carabiner clip ("nasukan") attached! Color is random! Look forward to it!
20AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:33
I'll buy drip-pack coffee, trash bags, seasonings, and whole wheat pasta if they're cheap.
Nothing else is on my list

Re: #20
Put oatmeal on that list too
72AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:54
Re: #20
If it's whole wheat, the cheap stuff is probably Greek-made, I think

Re: #1
Doesn't make sense to me.

It's not even that cheap, and if you already own an "Amazon device" (like a Fire TV Stick), it doesn't matter how cheap it gets. Plus everyone's already given one to their elderly parents, so there's nobody left to give it to.
And on top of that, the new stick models have a bad reputation anyway (since you can't run APKs on them)

Re: #54
What about the selling point that it can draw power straight from the TV? I'd guess that falls flat if your TV doesn't support it?
65AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:48
Re: #57
Yeah, the fact that Amazon's own devices got more expensive is a big deal
116AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:21
Re: #65
The Fire HD 8 I bought a while back was ¥5,980, but now it's ¥18,000
69AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:51
There are too many listings where the seller isn't Amazon itself, so I end up hesitating
84AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:02
Re: #69
When it comes to Gunpla kits, it's nothing but resellers and reseller wholesalers
71AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:53
C'mon, give us a protein powder sale already~
80AnonymousOct 12, 2026 17:58
Re: #71
It always gets cheaper during the sale, so you'll be fine
167AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:53
Re: #71
Whey protein isn't getting any cheaper anymore, man

Any recommendations for the latest Reiwa-era model?
105AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:15
Re: #103
Every latest Reiwa-era model is a recommendation.
I mean, they're the newest, after all
119AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:25
Back when I had a Lab and a Golden, I used to stock up on dog food (´・ω・`).
Now I've got a rescue cat, so I'm planning to buy cat stuff instead

Re: #119
I've been comparing Amazon, Rakuten, and Yahoo Shopping lately, and Yahoo Shopping is basically the cheapest
133AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:31
I've pretty much stopped using Amazon altogether at this point
138AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:33
Re: #133
I'd switch to Rakuten if they'd do convenience-store pickup or PUDO locker delivery.
Doorstep drop-off is a no-go for me since I've had trouble with it twice
136AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:32
Regular ground coffee sure is pricey these days.
Can't it get any cheaper than the ¥1,100 for 750g I see on supermarket sale days?
137AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:33
Re: #136
Isn't coffee more about quality than price?
140AnonymousOct 12, 2026 18:34
I think this every single year: I've never once found something I actually wanted. And even on the rare occasion I do spot something, it's not even discounted
180AnonymousOct 12, 2026 19:04
Re: #140
Sometimes the regular price is actually cheaper
191AnonymousOct 12, 2026 19:11
Will the Fire HD 10 go on sale? I want a new one ☺

Re: #191
A cheap Chinese tablet is good enough for you

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Amazon’s “Prime Thanksgiving Sale” is one of several major sales held each year, alongside July’s “Prime Day,” and in recent years it’s become standard practice to run it as a two-stage event—an early sale followed by the main sale. Where opinions in the thread diverged was over how much of a real discount shoppers actually felt: some argued that consumables like protein powder and coffee are genuinely worth waiting for since they go on sale periodically, while others countered that Amazon’s own devices, like Fire tablets, have kept getting more expensive over the past several years, so any “discount” is more illusion than reality. Another recurring theme was distrust toward sellers—since Amazon’s marketplace includes not just items shipped by Amazon itself but also a large number of third-party sellers, and users often point to suspicious spikes in review counts or the presence of counterfeit goods mixed in. It’s worth noting this is a matter of individual listings being problematic, not grounds for sweeping, blanket criticism of Amazon as a whole or of China as a country. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the actual size of the discount varies by product, and reactions in the thread are shaped by each poster’s own shopping habits.
