The story

Actress Mai Miyajima (40), who has appeared in eight NHK morning dramas including “Come Come Everybody” and “Carnation,” announced on October 3, 2026 that she would be taking a hiatus. The Sports Hochi article included the phrase “I deeply apologize for my past conduct,” but gave no specifics about what had actually happened. On the 5ch “Entertainment/Sports News+” board, confused reactions piled up, with posts like “this makes no sense” and “isn’t this a clickbait headline?” Many speculated the real cause was exhaustion from childcare, or the difficulty with interpersonal communication Miyajima herself has mentioned before.

An apology? Did she do something bad? I read the whole article and still have no clue.
7AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:20
Huh.
Guess there's a follow-up story coming or something?

Re: #7
Guess a scoop's coming later?

"Deeply apologize for past conduct" — from the thread title I figured she must've done something seriously awful,
but turns out she's probably just a bit depressed.
Don't know who she is, but no need to push yourself, take it easy and rest up.
11AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:21
Is this some kind of childcare-burnout story?
20AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:25
Re: #11
Nah, I think it's just a throwaway opener and the article's just weirdly framing it this way for some reason…
13AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:21
Makes no sense.
Was she bullying someone?
18AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:25
Re: #1
She's 40, right?
She's not an idol, so you'd think it'd take something pretty serious for her to go on hiatus, no?
19AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:25
It's probably a mental health thing and they slap on a headline like this. Rough.
21AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:26
Didn't need to make the thread title sound like she screwed up when she didn't.

For some reason she's the type who always fits the role of the heroine's friend in NHK Osaka ("BK")-produced morning dramas,
even though her actual part is totally different show to show.

Re: #6
No idea who she is.
Even with 8 shows under her belt, probably just extra-level roles.

Re: #27
She's pretty well known among morning drama fans.
Plays those tragic, hard-luck roles alongside the lead and has real presence.
I'm a fan of hers too.

If she's from Gifu, why wasn't she in "Half Blue" (the morning drama set in Gifu)?
29AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:29
Maybe her face not quite clicking with any strong character is exactly why she's easy to cast?
32AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:30
Unless a power-harassment story drops later,
it's weird she'd bother putting out a comment like this.
33AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:30
Just blush about it whenever the flashback hits and don't worry about it the rest of the time.
37AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:33
A regular who nobody actually remembers
— maybe that's a rare and valuable skill in itself as a performer.
38AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:34
Wasn't she Mikio Osawa's ex-wife?
Wait, hadn't she left showbiz?
39AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:34
"Deeply apologize for past conduct" — what's that even about?
40AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:35
So the reporter just oversold a clickbait title?
42AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:39
What "past conduct" even?
Was she in juvenile detention as a teenager or something?
60AnonymousOct 3, 2026 17:00
Re: #42
Probably just what we're all casually doing in this very thread.
43AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:40
Re: #1
With this thread title it reads like she caused some kind of trouble and is on hiatus because of it,
but that's not what the article says, right? Feels more like childcare exhaustion or something along those lines.
The original article's title is the same as this one, so I sense a bit of malicious framing in how it's being presented.
Well, that's about par for Sports Hochi I guess.
44AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:43
Clickbait headline.
"I'm taking a hiatus" is clearly the actual point here.
48AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:46
Watching Showa-retro exploration videos is more fun than watching Peace-kun (the local celebrity swan/bird at Omiya Park) on YouTube anyway.
49AnonymousOct 3, 2026 16:48
This girl worked part-time for ages at the Royal Host restaurant in Higashi-Tenma.
Ridiculously cute, wore a name tag that said "Miyajima."
Happened to watch a morning drama one day and was shocked to see her in it.
85AnonymousOct 3, 2026 17:32
The hiatus announcement and the apology before it
have zero connection, lol.
If you try to connect them, it sounds like she's saying she's taking a hiatus because she messed up some kind of relationship.
87AnonymousOct 3, 2026 17:38
Re: #85
"Sorry for all the trouble I've caused.
I'm going to take a break here."

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Mai Miyajima has appeared in eight NHK morning dramas, including “Come Come Everybody” and “Carnation,” but mostly in supporting roles, so there’s a fair number of viewers who recognize her face but can’t place her name. This announcement appears to be a comment originating from her talent agency, and because Sports Hochi used that wording verbatim as its headline, the abstract phrase “deeply apologize for my past conduct” ended up standing out on its own, stripped of context. The article body itself contains no description of any specific scandal or trouble, and the reason for the hiatus is never stated outright. Opinion in the thread split over whether to read that phrase as “a confession of some scandal” or as “just a boilerplate expression of consideration,” with the latter view — that the hiatus is more likely driven by childcare exhaustion or interpersonal stress — winning out. Since judging by the headline alone invites readers to imagine a serious incident that doesn’t match the substance of the piece, the lack of concrete facts in the body is exactly where readers are most likely to be misled.
