The story

Ryota Yamasato of the comedy duo Nankai Candies missed the October 1 live broadcast of Nippon TV’s “DayDay.”, which he co-hosts, due to illness, with comedian Koji Higashino stepping in as his replacement. At the top of the show, announcer Shinichi Takeda informed viewers of Yamasato’s absence and added a caring word for him. On 5ch, some users questioned the show’s entire hosting lineup, asking “Wouldn’t it be fine with just Taketan (Takeda) alone?”, while others praised Nippon TV and talent agency Yoshimoto Kogyo for how quickly they arranged a stand-in. Still others posted messages worried about Yamasato’s packed schedule and his health.

Announcer Takeda's message to Yamasato:
"Your seat's already gone!!" (a jokey dig, not a literal threat)

Wouldn't it be fine with just Taketan (Takeda) alone?

Re: #6
Yeah, that's probably Nippon TV's real opinion.
8AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:27
He won't reflect on his ways, that's why the curse won't lift.
10AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:33
I wonder if Date-chan from Sandwichman is doing okay… (a different comedian, random aside)
12AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:34
He's supposed to be a guest on the Banana Moon radio show tomorrow — can he even make it?
13AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:36
On DayDay., announcer Takeda is the one actually running the show as main host,
so honestly, neither Yamasato nor Miyu Kuroda are even necessary.

Didn't need to drag the "message" angle into the story
— it just makes you go "what's that about"
talking about whoever wrote the article.
18AnonymousOct 1, 2026 09:43
I'd noticed someone's been missing a lot of radio shows too lately
— turns out that was Yamasato as well. Get well soon.
32AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:07
Being able to book Higashino on such short notice — Nippon TV's got some serious pull lol

Re: #32
Yoshimoto (his agency) made it happen.
It's standard practice to send out a replacement who outranks the absent talent.
What's surprising is that the radio fill-in wasn't a Yoshimoto talent.

Trashy Nippon TV, hogging the airwaves to dump garbage like this first thing in the morning.
36AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:13
Japanese TV has basically been taken over by comedians. A nation in true decline.
37AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:13
How does it make sense that the fill-in is a bigger star than the regular host?
42AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:17
Re: #37
If an agency's talent causes trouble, they've got to send out a replacement of matching stature.
47AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:24
If they can just call up Higashino same-day whenever Yamasato's out sick from the morning show, why not just make him the regular host already
— he'd be way better than Yamasato anyway.
50AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:28
Re: #47
He'd already bailed on his radio show, so they must've made the call last night.
48AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:27
Haven't needed this since the Kato/Terry Ito days.
49AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:28
Higashino's got a live broadcast gig in Osaka on Saturdays, so he can't do the daily slot

…come to think of it, that was the same issue with Yamasato too.
51AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:31
Just take the show over and bring back Wide na Show!
52AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:31
He barely said a word yesterday either.
55AnonymousOct 1, 2026 10:35
Stopped watching entirely the moment it changed from Kato.
77AnonymousOct 1, 2026 11:32
Isn't Ryota Yamasato supposedly NHK's top pick to be the next Kohaku Uta Gassen host?
He's already hosted the Kohaku preview specials and done the secondary-audio commentary,
and he even hosted Close-Up Gendai.
84AnonymousOct 1, 2026 11:39
Yamasato's on TV at least once a day.
Honestly, it feels like you see him on screen twice a day.
No wonder his body's giving out…

Re: #84
He's got to earn enough to cover for his wife being on hiatus too —
same deal as Horikita's husband.

Background and Key Points of This Story

“DayDay.” is Nippon TV’s weekday morning info show, which has long been hosted by a three-person team: Ryota Yamasato, announcer Miyu Kuroda, and announcer Shinichi Takeda. The only reason given for this absence was “poor health,” with no details released about the circumstances or expected length of his time off. On the thread, several posters noted the industry custom of agencies sending a higher-ranked replacement when their talent is absent, framing Koji Higashino’s appearance in that light. Plenty of speculation also circulated about the reason behind the absence, but none of it is based on any official statement from the show or from Yamasato himself, and none of it should be treated as confirmed fact.
