Popular artists Vaundy and Fujii Kaze have both announced cancellations of overseas tour dates — Vaundy’s Shanghai show and Fujii Kaze’s Bangkok show — adding to a growing string of canceled international performances by top acts. In both cases, the only explanation given was “unforeseen circumstances,” and on 5channel, users traded theories about what’s really behind it, from poor ticket sales to local regulations to the weak yen breaking the underlying business model.
Singer-songwriter Vaundy (26) updated his official website on the 26th, announcing the cancellation of the Shanghai leg of his Asia tour, originally scheduled for November. Cancellations of overseas shows by popular artists have been piling up recently.
The official site stated: “Regarding the Shanghai performance of ‘Vaundy ASIA ARENA TOUR 2026 “HORO”‘, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15, 2026, we regret to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances, we have decided to cancel the show.” The tour was set to kick off with a Tokyo show on September 5, running to a total of 11 performances across 6 cities: Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Fukuoka, Taipei, and Shanghai.
Singer-songwriter Fujii Kaze also updated his official website on the 21st of this month, announcing the cancellation of the Bangkok, Thailand date of his world tour, originally planned for December 26. The reason given for the cancellation was likewise “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
If everyone knows how this is going to go, why do they keep insisting on booking shows in China?

It's because they're not popular. Japanese fans won't travel either because of the weak yen, and with Japan in decline, this whole 'look, we're huge overseas!' marketing trick is finished.
