‘APEX Is Basically an Upgraded Splatoon,’ Claims 5ch Poster — Gets Buried in Replies: ‘Reeks of Someone Who’s Never Played It’

Written by

It started with a post declaring “I want to teach people who only play Splatoon,” which spun into an argument that APEX is the “upgraded version” of Splatoon, and Helldivers 2 is the “upgraded version” of Splat Raiders (the poster’s nickname for Splatoon’s co-op mode). The poster backed up the claim with self-reported stats like hitting the S+50 rank cap and figures like “nearly 100,000 concurrent players,” but other users fired back one after another with lines like “someone who can’t get specific” and “reeks of never having played it, lol.” The thread eventually spiraled into a broader debate about the differences between the game genres themselves.

I want to explain this to people who only play Splatoon
2Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:24:03.23ID:5Sv1F48wr
By the way, I maxed out my rank in Splatoon 1 and hit S+50 in Splatoon 3

>>2
And also, you never even cleared floor 100 of the Mess Hall
3Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:24:49.51ID:u6NXBP7R0
Oh, so APEX has Turf War battles?
10Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:28:38.32ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>3
There's a concept called Area Control — it's basically territory fighting
4Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:25:19.35ID:LyCX4v8n0
APEX is nothing like Splatoon.
And what, is this a showdown between dying, low-pop games like Helldivers 2 and Raiders? lol
7Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:27:59.99ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>4
Helldivers 2 isn't dying. It's got concurrent player counts close to 100,000
8Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:28:23.43ID:5hEtWBHu0
For starters, you can even play Apex on Switch
11Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:29:12.93ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>8
It's locked at 60fps, so you'll get outgunned by PS5 players
12Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:29:24.97ID:G4faHjJ40
You've probably never played either one, so they look the same to you
15Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:31:59.72ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>12
I'd say Splatoon's tactics and teamwork are shallower than APEX's
16Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:32:16.37ID:u6NXBP7R0
>>10
A 'concept,' huh?
If you're gonna call it an upgrade, it better let you paint turf
24Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:34:27.69ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>16
Three players securing a wider area, getting sightlines across a broad range, and denying the enemy anywhere to hide — that's basically the same thing, right?
45Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:48:56.01ID:5hEtWBHu0
>>24
If it's just part of the map instead of the whole thing, isn't that more like Area Control than Turf War?
Anyway, hurry up and actually teach us about Apex already.
All you've done is talk about Splatoon this whole time lol
46Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:50:22.50ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>45
Apex's current meta is Axel, Sia, and Loba
49Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:52:01.35ID:isIlkyjY0
>>45
You're probably just watching Splatoon 3 videos for a smear campaign lol
That's why you can't even give an average X Power off the top of your head, and your answers about other games are just as vague
19Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:32:42.54ID:fWLD3Qco0
The type who talks in broad generalizations but can't get into specifics
27Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:34:53.83ID:isIlkyjY0
>>19
Seriously, that's exactly the vibe I get.
It just sounds like empty talk — 'I bought it,' 'I played it,' and that's it
20Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:33:43.12ID:6sqA9QAS0
>>15
Be specific.
You've probably never even played Ranked Clam Blitz
29Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:38:27.24ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>20
'Even Clam Blitz,' huh?
If you're gonna say that, it should be 'even Area Control'
30Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:39:07.91ID:Bimt4uGo0
Impressive how hard you're trying with knowledge you picked up from videos
36Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:43:20.83ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>30
Here's some knowledge you won't get from videos: X Match didn't even exist in Splatoon 3's first season.
So when I hit S+50 max rank, I didn't get a single badge for it — pretty disappointing
33Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:42:43.85ID:/LUMW4XZ0
I did Apex's garbage tutorial that doesn't even tell you which button fires your gun, then got thrown straight into a real match and that was it
43Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:47:33.66ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>33
That 'garbage' Bangalore tutorial actually does teach you how to shoot.
Are you one of those old-timers still going on about Season 1 or something?
34Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:43:01.07ID:xzLuv9k+0
You can play Apex on Switch 2 too, so you should teach them
39Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:45:01.08ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>34
It's locked at 60fps and the Pro Controller quality is bad, so it's not even worth discussing
35Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:43:18.48ID:rKUP0d+w0
Salmon Run is actually the closer match to Helldivers 2
37Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:43:57.11ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>35
Yeah, fair enough
50Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:54:50.13ID:G+SyORm10
They're completely different games

59Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:01:42.98ID:isIlkyjY0
>>50
Same here (lit. 'comrade').
Even though they're both co-op PvE, the concepts and the skills they demand are totally different.
I'd love to grill these never-played-it types on it, but that type has nothing but time to burn — digging through videos, and these days you can even fake it with AI
53Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:56:19.70ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>48
I see. Simply put, it's a 3-team battle royale.
A battle royale is a game where you fight to be the last team standing inside a map whose playable area keeps shrinking.
Honestly, you can just run and hide until it's down to the last two teams
54Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 16:56:53.61ID:5hEtWBHu0
>>53
That's not an 'upgrade' at all lol
58Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:01:37.30ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>54
It's basically the same kind of thing.
I guess you could also call it Overwatch-like, but people who played Splatoon will probably get more into APEX
71Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:13:46.42ID:G+SyORm10
>>58
Overwatch is also a completely different game

It's a game where you swap heroes mid-match — even within the same game — based on the enemy/ally composition and the map, so how do you end up saying that's the same as Splatoon?
80Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:19:12.15ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>71
If it were the same, it'd just be a ripoff.
If that were the case, people would be calling it a 'Formstar' clone or something
90Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:27:16.85ID:G+SyORm10
>>80
Where's this 'similar' or 'upgrade' claim of yours even coming from?
Is it the same game just because you wipe things out?
It's not some contest over how fast you can mow down Terminids — you're allowed to just complete the objective and bail.
That's not to say Raiders is inferior either — something like the Mess Hall lets you build your own strategy on top of the base spawns plus random spawns, giving it that L4D-style appeal too.

You really don't have an eye for games, do you?
92Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:29:23.99ID:5Sv1F48wr
>>90
Of course — since they're different games, I never said they're exactly the same.
What I mean by 'upgrade' is that there's a good chance you'd be fine just playing that one instead.
If you haven't tried it, you should — I'm just being nice here
93Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 17:31:28.36ID:G+SyORm10
>>92
That's exactly why you're getting mocked here — because it's off the mark
