  • Why Did Italy Go From Roman Empire to Pizza Country? 5ch Weighs In

The thread kicks off with a blunt question: “It used to be the Roman Empire, but now it’s just a country that makes pizza — why?” From there, discussion ranged over nations that have claimed to be “successors to Rome” — the Holy Roman Empire, Russia, France, the United States — and debated why Britain, once a backwater of the empire, ended up seizing world supremacy. That spiraled into a debate over the racial and ethnic makeup of ancient Roman citizens, citing genetic studies, before branching out even further into the hair color of Vikings and the original colors of ancient sculptures. The thread also drifted into pure chit-chat, with a video of a smiling Italian grandpa eating pasta and a graph showing how Japan and Italy always seem to end up next to each other on various national rankings, like wages.

When you test DNA from the bones of Roman-era Roman citizens, they turn out genetically closer to Middle Easterners than to Europeans or modern Italians
You can also estimate eye color from the genes, and most of them had dark eyes

    Re: #36
"Roman citizen" was a legal status, not a race, so the genetics would've varied a lot by region
The 8th emperor, Vitellius, rose to power backed by Germanic citizens, so there must have been blond, blue-eyed Roman citizens too

    Re: #36
That's a result of multiple peoples flowing in via Mediterranean trade during Rome's rise — it doesn't carry over to the rest of the Italian peninsula outside the city of Rome
Italy actually has big north-south genetic differences to begin with
Even today, the south (including Rome) has kept its genetic continuity, with less Germanic influence than the north, so blond hair and blue eyes are rarer there

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The thread starts from a blunt question — “Italy is supposedly the heir of the Roman Empire, so why is it now just a pizza country?” — but the historical skeleton underneath it is largely sound: the medieval-and-later contest over who gets to claim the title of “successor to Rome” (the Holy Roman Empire, Russia, France, the United States, and so on), and the account of how Britain, once a mere frontier province, rose to prominence through centralized royal power and the absence of foreign invasions after the Norman Conquest. As for the genetic diversity of ancient Roman citizens, posters do cite a real 2019 paper published in Science (Antonio et al.), which found that imperial-era Rome had a genetically diverse population due to the influx of multiple peoples via Mediterranean trade, and that European influence grew stronger in the empire’s later period. That said, the thread tends to oversimplify these findings into claims like “Romans were Middle Eastern” or “not European,” which misses the paper’s actual conclusion — that Roman citizens had no single racial origin. The comments about Viking hair color and the original colors of ancient sculptures are likewise grounded in genuine recent scholarship, but individual posts mix in images and assertions that are hard to verify, so none of it should be taken at face value.

  • Tetsuya Takeda’s Lyrics for “Okuru Kotoba”: 5ch Erupts Into Debate Over What They Actually Mean

“Don’t ask for kindness — that’s just an excuse cowards make.” A line from Kaientai’s “Okuru Kotoba” (A Word to Send You Off), written by Tetsuya Takeda, sparked a debate over its true meaning on the Japanese forum 5ch. It started with a post from someone who said an older passenger played them the song and, hearing the lyrics properly for the first time, they were moved to tears. From there, interpretations piled up — “Isn’t this a dig at an ex?”, “Doesn’t it mean that only wanting kindness from others is what makes you a coward?” — and the thread caught fire. An argument broke out partway through over how to read the lyrics, but by the end someone offered a reframing — “it’s a song about choosing to love rather than be loved” — that completely flipped the mood of the thread.

Wait, but could it be that even back then, they deliberately wrote the lyrics as a kind of "intentional contrarian take" — like what we'd call being deliberately edgy today — just to grab attention?
    6AnonymousOct 6, 2026 20:48
・I wish that person would be a bit kinder.
・I wish everyone in the world were kind.
・I want my kid to grow up to be a kind person.

Those are just things that popped into my head — stuff I genuinely think in real life — but… does that make them a "coward's excuse" too?

    Too sad to handle.

A song Tetsuya Takeda wrote the lyrics for, released four months after "Okuru Kotoba" — turns out he can write stuff like this too:

I'm right here, in your pocket,
waiting so we can travel together,
    waiting until you notice me.
What was it you dreamed of?
    Let's go there together now.
It's a world so far away, yet so close.
A sky stretches out inside your pocket too,
clouds drift by inside your pocket too.
    There's a world this wonderful,
a world where you and I can travel together.

Sure, maybe the person being bullied has some small part in it, but that's never a reason it's okay to bully them.
And honestly, casually mocking or sneering at things you don't even understand is just rotten.
If you said something like "haha, that guy doesn't even have hands" about someone with a limb difference, society would hate you for it — so I genuinely don't understand why bullying gets a pass.

It's a song about becoming someone who can be kind to others, rather than someone who only ever demands kindness from others.
    (Loving, rather than being loved)
A way of living and a stance that finds more value in actively, deliberately loving someone than in passively being on the receiving end of love.

    Whoa——————!!!!!
I guess you could read these lyrics that way too…
So it's like: write it in a deliberately harsh way on the surface, but underneath the underneath the underneath, that's really what it means?
    That kind of lyrics—!!!————————————!!!
Huh, that makes sense! I feel genuinely relieved now.
Ohh, so that's the way he was trying to say it.
Then it's a beautiful song after all!
Sorry, Tetsuya Takeda-san, you weren't someone spreading sadness after all.
    57AnonymousOct 6, 2026 21:57
    So it's the Re: #49 reading, huh… I see…
It was buried so deep under the underneath of the underneath that I couldn't get it…

It's the cowards, the ones who can't be kind to others,
who are always the ones demanding kindness from others

…then even I might have understood what wonderful thing Takeda-san was trying to say, if the lyrics had been something like that.
    Seriously, Re: #49, you're a savior.
    50AnonymousOct 6, 2026 21:47
Lyrics ahead of their time — basically predicting the 'it's all on you' era of personal responsibility.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Kaientai’s “Okuru Kotoba” (A Word to Send You Off) was released in 1979, with lyrics written by Tetsuya Takeda. It’s best known as a graduation-ceremony staple with an “encouraging anthem” image, but it’s not widely known that, taken as a whole, the lyrics are actually about a breakup. The point the thread split over was how to read the line “Don’t ask for kindness — that’s just an excuse cowards make”: taken literally, is it a criticism meaning “the person who wants kindness is the real coward,” or does it mean the opposite — “the coward is the one who only wants kindness but never gives it”? The reading that emerged later in the thread — “it’s a song conveying the value of choosing to love rather than be loved” — shifted the whole mood, but it’s worth noting this was just one participant’s guess, not an explanation from Takeda himself. The lyrics’ official intended meaning has never been published, so which interpretation is actually “correct” remains genuinely unknown.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

On VIP, it’s a recurring phenomenon for chatbots or simple AIs to set up their own threads and stick around, and this “HanaE.sys” case looks like it belongs to that same lineage. The “affection level” shown after every reply (ranging from 0.3 to 1.0), along with fake system-log flourishes like “Firmware” and “Uptime,” mimic the character-growth mechanics of games — suggesting this was built less as a plain response bot and more with the specific goal of keeping the conversation going. Opinions in the thread split between a group that kept talking to it as something to dote on, and a more cynical group who dismissed it as “just a way to spam threads” or “a pointless waste of tokens” — the latter pointed to the timestamp tag on every post and the repetitiveness of its answers as signs of sloppy craftsmanship. What exactly the “hitman from Talk” comment was referring to was never explained in the thread, and remains unclear from context.

  • Ohtani Shohei ditches his salt-only pasta diet for hot dogs — 5ch reacts: “So the salt pasta really was stressing him out?”

Gendai Business reports that pro baseball star Shohei Ohtani has moved away from the salt-only pasta diet he once stuck to religiously, now also eating hot dogs and drinking soda. At 32, the shift reportedly reflects a change in philosophy: prioritizing being in his best shape right now over conditioning himself with an eye on years down the road. Reaction on 5ch’s live-commentary board was split — some understood the move as a reasonable way to cut stress, while others worried it signaled slipping professionalism or fretted over the effect on his physique, with the discussion spilling into comparisons with the diets of other famous players like Yu Darvish and Ichiro.

From salt-only pasta to “hot dogs”… The “diet management” Shohei Ohtani changed at 32, and the chances of a comeback

“He used to eat nothing but salt pasta, or burgers wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. But now he sometimes drinks soda, or orders a hot dog through Uber [Eats].

Behind it, apparently, is the idea that ‘rather than managing his condition with years down the road in mind, it’s about being in the best shape right now.’ Not piling up stress over food seems to suit him better at 32, it seems.”

    This is Ohtani's hot dog

    Background and Talking Points

This shift in diet was reported by Gendai Business as stemming from 32-year-old Ohtani’s new priority: being in the best possible shape right now, rather than managing his condition with an eye on years down the road. Given that he had long been known for extreme discipline — eating only salt pasta or lettuce-wrapped burgers — the move to incorporate hot dogs and soda split opinion among fans. On the thread, some defended the decision as a reasonable way to cut down on stress, while others were skeptical, wondering whether his professional discipline around body management had slackened. Commenters also frequently drew comparisons to other players, such as Darvish’s own dietary shift and Ichiro’s famously curry-heavy diet. Worth noting: the image-linked “was this a lie too?”-style replies posted in the thread are unverified social-media reactions with no confirmable source, and are a separate matter from the Gendai Business article quoted in the main text — something readers could easily conflate.

  • After Short Height, Now It’s “Narrow-Shouldered Men” — 5ch: “This Trend of Bashing Men No Matter What Is Creepy”

On 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (anything-goes live-TV board), a thread roasting short men gave way to a new target: men with “narrow shoulders.” Posters piled on with claims that shoulder width is purely a matter of bone structure determined by genetics — something no amount of weight training can change — while others argued over the urban legend that swimming as a kid widens your shoulders. The thread also debated who gets the worse deal visually, a short guy with broad shoulders or a tall guy with narrow ones, and brought up the builds of pro baseball players and MMA fighters as examples. At the same time, plenty of replies pushed back, calling out the whole “it’s fine to clown on men’s bodies no matter what” mentality as messed up, and questioning why appearance-shaming is treated as fair game at all.

    62AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:54
Even if your shoulders got wider while you were swimming during your growth years,

there's no evidence establishing a causal link like "swimming literally widened the bone structure of the shoulders."

Changes in shoulder width during growth are mainly due to:

    * Natural growth of the skeleton — collarbones, shoulder blades, etc.
    * Overall development of height and build
    * Physical maturation driven by sex hormones

What swimming can do, on the other hand, is develop the muscles of the shoulders, back, and chest, which makes the shoulder area look bigger as a result.

That said, to be precise on one point: it wouldn't be accurate to flatly claim "swimming's effect is absolutely zero." Exercise habits during the growth years could plausibly have some influence on physical development.

But the commonly repeated idea that

"swimming as a kid skeletally widens your shoulders"

is safe to say isn't supported scientifically.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Shoulder width is governed mainly by the length of the collarbones and shoulder blades, and is generally considered a matter of bone structure — strength training can’t change the actual length of the bones themselves. The thread saw plenty of talk about the popular belief that “swimming widens your shoulders,” but that claim tends to conflate two different things: muscles like the lats and traps developing and making the shoulder area merely look bigger, versus an actual change in bone structure. The fact that shoulder width became a new target for body-shaming, following on from height, reflects a broader trend of online appearance-related topics constantly shifting to a new target. Some posters in the thread pushed back against the very premise that “anything goes when it comes to criticizing men’s bodies” — and the tendency for this kind of body-shaming to skew toward men is a point worth not overlooking when reading this thread.

  • Natsuyaki Miyabi to serve as ‘one-day manager’ at a shop run by a longtime fan — prices and fan-funded fees spark debate

Natsuyaki Miyabi, a former Morning Musume ’14 member now active with PIMMY and other projects, is set to serve as “one-day manager” at an eatery run by one of her longtime fans. Word that the collaboration curry costs 3,500 yen, the collaboration drink costs 2,300 yen, and even two-shot photos come with a fee sparked a mix of congratulations and unease on 5ch’s Hello! Project board over the idea of fans collecting money from fellow fans. One post — “Knowing the money’s going to a fellow otaku kills my motivation to go” — set off a tangle of reactions: surprise at the pricing, curiosity about who this veteran fan-turned-shop-owner actually is, and the thread rolled on without a clear consensus.

    50AnonymousOct 6, 2026 19:08
It was already a slightly pricey place to begin with
The regular "red" katsu keema curry runs about 2,200 yen? 2,400 yen with an egg topping? So this is 1,100 yen more than the usual price
Makes you wonder how much of that actually goes to Miyabi-chan

Who's even going to a meet-and-greet event for a married woman

Background and key points of this discussion

Natsuyaki Miyabi joined Morning Musume ’14 in 2014 as an additional member, and after graduating has continued her entertainment career as PIMMY. Within Hello! Project, it’s fairly common for graduated members to take part in collaboration shops or one-day-manager events, so a tie-in with a shop run by a longtime fan isn’t unusual in itself. What split opinion in the thread was the fact that the collaboration curry was priced above the regular menu, and the discomfort some felt over the basic setup of “a shop run by a fan collecting money from other fans.” Fan-led projects tend to have less funding behind them than ordinary tie-ins, which often pushes prices higher — and that’s what drove reactions like “this kills my motivation to go.” At the same time, several posters said they actually planned to go, so it wasn’t a simple split into for-and-against camps. Note that the posts touching on her age or marital status are based on anonymous hearsay and have not been confirmed as fact.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Natsuyaki Miyabi ends up becoming one-day manager at a shop run by a veteran otaku lol.”

  • Matsuya’s ¥990 Mapo Tofu Set Draws Cries of ‘Too Expensive,’ Splits 5ch Opinion

When Matsuya released a mapo tofu set meal priced at ¥990, posters on the 5ch forum reacted with shock, with comments like “that’s expensive” and “this country is finished.” On the other hand, some praised the chain, saying “everything at Matsuya is delicious,” and the discussion expanded to include comparisons of meat toughness and other chains (Ohsho, Marumiya, Sukiya, etc.). The thread also touched on claims that Matsuya had switched its rice back from Calrose (American) rice to domestic rice, and an anecdote about a viral social media exchange over an order mistake — with opinions split not just on price but on quality as well.

Every bite turns into a chore of wrapping the leftover gristly bits in a napkin.
I figured the hamburger steak would be fine, but even that leaves some tough chunks in your mouth.

If you order through the app, you get 20-30 yen in points every time that you can use next visit, and if you buy the ¥200 monthly pass at the start of the month, beef bowls and set meals are ¥70-100 cheaper all month, so I mostly go to Matsuya.
Granted, it's also just conveniently located for me. Did Sukiya have a ¥200 pass too, come to think of it?

    Matsuya is seriously rough.
They keep rolling out all these weird new menu items, but that's really just to disguise how low-quality the ingredients are — a lot of them end up absurdly spicy or overly heavy-flavored as a cover.

Background and Key Points of Debate

The trend of rising prices at restaurant chains has continued for several years now, and beef bowl chains are no exception. Matsuya has repeatedly changed its rice sourcing and rolled out new menu items in recent years — as pointed out in the thread, with claims that it “switched the rice back from Calrose to domestic rice” — reflecting a structure where fluctuating ingredient costs tend to feed directly into prices. The thread was split over whether ¥990 is expensive for a mapo tofu dish on its own, with some viewing it as relatively cheap compared to other beef bowl chains, and others feeling psychological resistance to paying ¥990 for a set meal at a chain known mainly for rice bowls. Opinions on how tough the meat is are also likely shaped by individual taste and quality differences between locations and times of day, so it’s worth noting the experience may not be the same at every branch. The order-mistake anecdote is one example that spread on social media, and is best read as a separate topic from the thread’s main subject — the new menu item itself.

  • BBQ foods that scream “you get it” spark reactions on 5ch: “A whole corn cob!”

A thread on 5ch’s “Nanmo Jikkyo G” board (a general live-commentary forum) asked what foods make people think “oh, this guy gets it” when brought to a barbecue, and users piled on with crowd-pleasers like head-on shrimp, A5 wagyu steak, bone-in short ribs, and shell-on scallops — foods that earn the person who brought them real respect. At the same time, plenty voiced frustration with foods like pumpkin, bell peppers, and onions that “just take up grill space and end up as leftovers,” as well as shrimp and crab, which look impressive but are a pain to eat and tie up both hands. The thread split between those who prioritize presentation and those who prioritize ease of eating and how much prep is involved.

    Background and talking points

When it comes to picking barbecue food, opinions tend to split between flashy, high-end items (A5 wagyu, head-on shrimp, shell-on shellfish) and low-fuss foods like pre-skewered meat or corn that are hard to mess up. As one commenter put it, “shrimp looks like an all-star but it’s actually useless” — showing that visual impressiveness doesn’t always line up with practicality, given the hassle of shelling and eating while standing. Others pointed out that vegetables like pumpkin and bell peppers, which take a long time to cook and hog grill space, tend to go to waste. This suggests that for smaller, stand-and-eat barbecues, people lean toward valuing ease of prep and eating over sheer visual impact. It’s also worth noting that shellfish and crustaceans are foods that require checking in advance whether anyone present has an allergy.

  • Liella! Fans Spot ‘Finale’ Clues in New Jacket Art — 5ch: ‘Feels Like a Culmination’

A thread on 5ch’s Love Live! board speculated that Liella!’s new jacket artwork for their 8th live might really signal the end. Posters pointed out that the artwork’s all-members-together composition lines up neatly with Season 3’s subtitle, “Everyone Gather,” and that the album title “Our Songs, Our Dreams” also has people thinking it marks some kind of milestone. Others pushed back, arguing that if it really were a finale, the official announcement would surely say so outright to boost ticket sales, and the discussion spiraled into comparisons with other groups like Nijigasaki. In the end, the thread split between those convinced it’s a “complete ending” and those who see it as merely “a milestone.”

People keep waving this around like it's some golden rule, but a cast member said Hasunosora's 104th class might not have even debuted—might have been scrapped entirely—depending on how the 103rd class's launch and reception went. So I think when it's time to end, it ends regardless of 'order'
    83AnonymousOct 6, 2026 16:44
To begin with, Superstar's core staff aren't even around anymore—they've left Sunrise or moved over to the Hasunosora project

Oh, they're gone? Guess it's hopeless then

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Liella! is the unit made up of the members from the anime Love Live! Superstar!!, and the 8th live is believed to be built around an all-members-together concept echoing Season 3’s subtitle, “Everyone Gather.” What split the thread was whether a single piece of jacket artwork is solid grounds for concluding the show is ending, or whether it’s simply staging for a milestone moment. There’s been no official confirmation of a finale, and some pointed out that announcements like that are normally made in advance specifically to boost ticket sales. The latter half of the thread also saw plenty of fan-vs-fan sniping over when Nijigasaki and other groups might end, but it’s worth noting this wasn’t based on any official announcement—just individual guesses about each group’s profitability and management plans.

  • Shohei Ohtani Dropped to 7th in Batting Order — 5ch Split Over His Slump

Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani batting 7th in a recent game became a hot topic on 5ch’s “Anything Live Broadcast G” board. With his batting numbers stalling late in the season, many posters floated giving bench player DePaula more playing time, or pointed out where Ohtani now sits in the team’s pecking order. Others pushed back, arguing expectations for Ohtani are simply set too high — so even average numbers get him criticized — while some praised the positive ripple effect on the pitching staff. Opinion in the thread stayed split throughout.

    1. Betts
    2. Freeman
    3. Smith
    4AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:09
Honestly, he's lucky they're even letting him play at all.
    8AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:10
A DH batting near the bottom of the order is basically cursed gear (a game item you equip and then can't take off).
    11AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:10
So he's ranked below lefties Freeman, Muncy, and Tucker now?
    13AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:11
Can this guy seriously turn it around from here?
    14AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:11
Cy Young lefty hits 100 mph for the first time in 8 years — thanks to Ohtani? Set to start Game 3 against the Dodgers, could this be the spark that turns Ohtani's own slump around too?

    > A 37-year-old's hidden potential, unlocked by Ohtani. That's really not an exaggeration.

But hey, Ohtani's the one who unlocked Sale's potential, so…

The 100 mph that Ohtani unlocked 👈
    18AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:12
Over on the English-language forums, more and more people are calling for DePaula to start.
I mean, 92 plate appearances with zero home runs and one RBI? Of course he's getting ripped for that.
    20AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:13
Meanwhile Betts is hitting .000, lol
    33AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:15
    Re: #20
Yeah, everyone's cooled off since the "jinx" (sarcastic nickname implying Ohtani brings bad luck) came back — same goes for Tucker.
    21AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:13
If he's just going to hit 7th anyway, might as well put in someone who can actually hit and move him to defense instead.
    22AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:14
    This is honestly embarrassing.
If he goes hitless batting 7th and the team loses too, he's getting benched next game.
Otherwise Roberts might end up getting fired.
    23AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:14
He can't hit in clutch situations and he's a human strikeout fan (slang for a hitter who just whiffs over and over) — 7th is exactly where he belongs.
    24AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:14
He may have the MVP locked up over Ohtani, but… "a certified loser" — 24-year-old star's off-field behavior sparks controversy, called "obnoxious"

"Compare him to Ohtani? Lol"… MVP favorite PCA "falls off a cliff" — .125 OPS draws laughter, "what a scam"

But hey, since Ohtani's rivals are flopping too, no real harm done.

This article acts like every single comment in it is gospel.
    26AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:14
    Also,
if the team wins the World Series with Ohtani contributing basically nothing, that's going to feel pretty anticlimactic lol
    28AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:14
    Re: #19
If the whole theory is putting a power hitter at number 7, then putting Ohtani there kind of defeats the point, no?
    29AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:15
If his bat doesn't come around before the World Series, DePaula might seriously take his starting spot.
    31AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:15
A DH who can't hit is worth exactly zero.
    34AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:16
Is there even a point to playing him at this stage?
For the sake of the rest of the team,
might as well just cut him.
    43AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:20
No matter how much you guys trash Ohtani, he's never getting benched, and DePaula is never taking his spot.
Friedman has a say in lineup decisions, after all.
    49AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:22
    Re: #43
They actually listen to the local fans over there, so he'll be gone before long.
    45AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:21
At this point he's basically turning into the Dodgers' own Special Grade Cursed Object lol (Jujutsu Kaisen reference — a cursed item so dangerous only the strongest can handle it).
    58AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:30
    Re: #45
Ever since Ohtani came back, Edman, Tucker, and Betts — who'd all been red hot before that — fell into slumps.
The lineup chemistry that had been clicking got severed too…
    53AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:27
If he takes a called strike on the first pitch, there's an 80% chance he strikes out.
    56AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:28
    Re: #53
Man, his mental game is really weak.
    66AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:37
It's genuinely sad watching "Otani-san" start getting treated the way old Matsui used to be (Hideki Matsui, former Yankees slugger criticized similarly late in his career).
    72AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:40
    Re: #66
Old man Matsui didn't strike out this easily, so honestly this is worse.
    67AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:37
    Play defense already, defense!
    71AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:39
    Re: #67
He can, it's just that he's too valuable on the mound for it to make sense. He can start playing defense once his arm's blown out.
    118AnonymousOct 6, 2026 14:11
    Re: #67
With that heavier build of his, first base is about all he could handle.
If he tried playing outfield, his knees would definitely blow out and that'd be the end of him lol
    82AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:51
He's got hits in two straight games and he's doing fine… so why all the hate?
    86AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:53
    Re: #82
It's because a lot of clueless people think Ohtani's Superman. Plenty of batters are hitting worse than him, but expectations for Ohtani are set so absurdly high that even average numbers get him dragged.
    91AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:55
Just let DePaula hit leadoff, that guy's insane (in a good way).
    96AnonymousOct 6, 2026 13:56
    Re: #91
Wait, is DePaula even on the active roster?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

While Shohei Ohtani continues to take the mound as a pitcher, his batting has stalled late in the season, and he appears to have been slotted into the 7th spot based on the batting-order theory of placing power hitters lower in the lineup. The thread’s disagreement centered on whether his slump reflects a genuine decline in ability, or whether expectations for him were simply set unrealistically high from the start, making even ordinary numbers an easy target for criticism. It’s worth noting that topics raised in the thread — such as pitcher Chris Sale’s strong outing or the struggles of other MVP candidates — are separate news stories from Ohtani’s own batting slump, even though they came up together in the discussion. Also, speculation about contract terminations tied to a team sale is an unconfirmed rumor and is not covered in this article.
