Final verdict on the Yui Aragaki ‘reverse height fudging’ theory: some say she’s really 176cm… 5ch buzzes over her ‘true height’

The story

Speculation that Yui Aragaki’s real height is taller than her officially listed measurement has circulated on social media for years, and when Yahoo! News published an article digging into the truth, the topic caught fire on 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports News+ board. The thread didn’t stop at Aragaki herself — actors like Hiroshi Tachi, Masato Sakai, and Masaki Okada, plus pro baseball and soccer players, all got dragged in over their own “fudged height” claims, turning it into a wider chat about height claims across the entertainment and sports industries. Photo-based guessing games got mixed in too, blending fact and speculation.

There are plenty of tall, model-turned-actress types in showbiz, but the one whose “real” height keeps coming up on social media — with guesses like “probably around 173cm” or “I’d estimate about 173cm” — is the hugely popular actress Yui Aragaki (38).

“Aragaki’s height has been a hot topic online for years. Every time she appears in a drama, movie, or variety show, comparisons with her co-stars spark comments like ‘Gakki’s actually tall.’

Forget that, the real shock here is Hiroshi Tachi (76)

Re: #3
Back when Gakki co-starred with Hiroshi Tachi, she looked about 166cm?

Re: #3
Hiroshi Tachi's mistress is my ex-girlfriend.
True story, FYI.
14AnonymousAug 28, 2026 20:53
I don't get what these height threads are even about.
I'm 186cm, my wife's 171cm, and my son's 187cm — it's a world I can't relate to.
When my son said "187cm is too tall, I wish I'd ended up more like 180cm," I honestly considered smacking him lol
18AnonymousAug 28, 2026 20:57
Re: #14
You only talk like that online, right? Seriously, don't say this stuff in real life. People around you are judging you hard for it.
19AnonymousAug 28, 2026 20:57
Re: #14
Not everyone likes being tall, you know.
That's exactly why Gakki was fudging her height downward in the first place.
81AnonymousAug 28, 2026 22:20
Re: #14
My ex-boyfriend was 187cm, way too big.
Glad we didn't get married — caring for him in old age would've been rough.
15AnonymousAug 28, 2026 20:56
There's no point fudging your height downward in the first place.
It's been the trend for a while now that tall women are seen as more desirable.

Re: #15
I'm pretty sure Nao Matsushita is definitely under-reporting her height lol
33AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:04
Re: #15
She just doesn't like it herself.
30AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:02
Masato Sakai is 172cm

Re: #30
That smug grin might be thanks to some "Sesshu shoes" (unclear reference — possibly slang for hidden lift/elevator shoes)
82AnonymousAug 28, 2026 22:24
Re: #30
Masaki Okada is 181cm
so that'd put her around 168-9cm then.
36AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:07
Hiroshi Tachi's got long legs, so he still looks good even as an old man
39AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:10
Apparently a measurement from 13 years ago matched her official height
44AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:15
My parent is almost 50, and they told me that back in their day it was normal for kids to surpass their parents' height by their late teens,
but nowadays a lot of kids are still shorter than their parents even past age 20, they said.
Apparently the generation with the tallest average height was people born 1977–1983.
Made me go "huh, that tracks."

Re: #44
That's because the "born small, raised big" approach led to more low-birth-weight babies.
That's been corrected now, so it should climb back to the old levels over a few decades —
though it probably won't swing far from around 171cm either way.

Re: #45
Ayako Kawahara really was huge — her dad's about 183cm too.

But her face is tiny.
Guess that's what you get from a Paris Fashion Week model.

There are two Ayaka Miyoshis on that list.

Re: #45
Tomoko Yamaguchi doesn't really strike me as tall though.
50AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:27
A pro baseball player's official "170cm" is almost always actually under 170cm.
An actress's official "169cm" is almost always actually over 170cm.
51AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:38
Re: #50
I mean, pretty much all celebrities pad their height by about +3cm.
Even the tall ones seem to fudge it to match everyone else.
53AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:42
Re: #50
That's soccer you're thinking of.
There's no real benefit for baseball players to fudge their height.
Tulio said almost every soccer player pads their height —
though he said he actually reported his own as shorter than it really was.

Re: #60
In soccer, a 3cm bump is basically standard.
In fact, they "grow" 3cm over the course of their career.

Why do NPB players suddenly get shorter when they move to MLB???
76AnonymousAug 28, 2026 22:18
Re: #67
Height:
Baseball — Nobuhiro Matsuda, 180cm
Soccer — Yohei Toyoda, 185cm

That sure doesn't look like a 5cm difference lmaooo
57AnonymousAug 28, 2026 21:46
This is pointless. She's properly 169cm, I'm telling ya.

Going by that sandal photo, she's around 170cm, give or take.

Re: #53
Sounds like shorter baseball players do it too.
Iriki, who used to be on the Giants, admitted he padded his height by 3cm.
Sometimes even guys who are already decently tall fudge it, maybe out of vanity —
like there's no way Sho Nakata is really 185cm.

Apparently most people who meet Jim Carrey in person are surprised he's bigger than he looks on screen.
He's one of the rare actors who's more imposing in real life than on camera.
75AnonymousAug 28, 2026 22:17
Re: #65
I already thought of Jim Carrey as tall — so he's even taller than that?

Re: #68
With the ABS system in place, they've been measuring accurately since this season, and pretty much nobody's height has changed, right?
Even Ohtani — who was 193cm in NPB but somehow got listed as 190cm in MLB — got bumped back to 193cm this year.
77AnonymousAug 28, 2026 22:19
Re: #74
Wasn't the big talking point with the ABS rollout that a lot of players stopped padding their height (stopped lying about being taller than they actually are)?

Background and key points of this discussion

It’s said that female celebrities’ announced heights tend to be listed shorter than their actual height, while conversely, male athletes’ official figures also tend to come in shorter than their actual height — and Yui Aragaki has long been cited online as the archetypal example of the former, with claims that she’s “actually around 173cm.” This latest news article set out to verify the truth behind that, but the thread expanded from talk about Aragaki herself into general “fudged height” trivia spanning celebrities and athletes across the board. Commenters noted that pro baseball players are often shorter than their official listing, while soccer players tend to “grow” a few centimeters over the course of their careers, and pointed to the example of Shohei Ohtani’s listed height being corrected to 193cm after MLB introduced its ABS (Automated Ball-Strike) system. That said, it’s worth keeping in mind that most of the “actually X cm” claims based purely on photos remain speculative — factoring in uncertainties like shoe sole thickness — rather than confirmed fact.
