GTA6’s New Footage Sparks More Talk About 30fps Than Originality — 5ch: ‘Zero Originality’

The story

In a thread sparked by new GTA6 information, with less than three months to go before release, discussion of the game itself centered almost entirely on graphics and frame rate. Posters voiced frustration over the 30fps performance target and complained that the only real evolution from GTA5 seems to be improved graphics, with some calling for Rockstar to reveal the game’s originality sooner rather than later. The conversation also branched into predictions about overseas sales and Japan’s relatively lukewarm interest in crime-themed games.

Why though?

Is there even anything else to talk about? For better or worse, it feels like the only thing that ever changes is the map size.

The moment it's 30fps, it's trash — and that's coming from PlayStation users themselves, of all people.
7AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:44
Even the people planning to buy it are waiting for the PC version, right? Who's masochistic enough to play at 30fps on the 'trash station' (a mocking nickname for PlayStation)?

Re: #7
Exactly this. It's not like it's a game I'm dying to rush out and play anyway.

Re: #7
Honestly, I'm not buying a crime-mission game that's basically just copy-pasted from real life anyway.
9AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:44
Because they kept the fps under wraps for so long, people now assume even what they did show off is hiding all the inconvenient parts.
12AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:46
Honestly the Netflix reveal content is the bigger concern — it looks like the gameplay loop hasn't changed at all from before, which worries me.

If there's no surprise in the final product, this could be rough, and it might not really be enjoyable until the PC version with mods comes out.

Re: #12
If they gave the open world Battlefield-level destruction physics, the graphics wouldn't look as impressive — plus debugging that would be a nightmare, so they went with graphics instead.
13AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:46
Isn't it because everyone already sensed it back when the leaks came out? Not gonna say what exactly, though.
15AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:48
Not being able to feel the fun is way worse than the fps issue. The series has been one-note the whole way through.
18AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:52
I don't even care if the graphics aren't pretty, but the fact that it delivers less thrill than other shooting games is a fatal flaw.
21AnonymousAug 28, 2026 18:53
It's not like they can just show off crime scenes freely, so maybe there's nothing left to talk about in the reveal?
61AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:13
A 'dead PlayStation' routs the 'living PC-bros' (パソニシ, mocking slang for PC-gaming zealots) —

That's probably how it'll go, which just shows how impressive the new GTA really is.

Re: #61
Every bit of that comparison reeks of Showa-era humor (jokes an older generation would make) — I'm done with it.
73AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:18
Maybe that jab was too subtle for the folks still beeping away on Mario.

It's a twist on the old saying 'a dead Zhuge Liang scares off a living Sima Yi.'

Re: #73
Everyone gets that reference. But thanks anyway, I guess.
86AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:25
Before you know it, we're down to less than three months until release, and honestly, more than the frame rate debate,
they need to reveal GTA6's own 'original gameplay' ASAP.
'Lots of locations, you can drive, you can shoot guns' —
they can't have poured their whole budget into stuff that outdated, right?
92AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:32
Re: #86
So far there's zero originality to speak of…

It's just a prettier GTA5.
100AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:35
LOL, at this point the only things left to hype are the fps, how much grass is rendered, and the draw distance.
It's eating 10x the power and that's basically the only difference?
Really shows how much times have changed.
101AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:36
Well, no matter how much people trash-talk it here, it'll still sell overseas.
103AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:38
Re: #101
Best case, maybe a million copies.
102AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:37
Japanese gamers just aren't that into 'organized crime simulators.'
105AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:39
Re: #102
Have you never heard of Like a Dragon (Yakuza)?
104AnonymousAug 28, 2026 19:38
I'm pretty worried about the actual gameplay. While everyone's been fixated on scale and visuals, has the series quietly fallen a lap behind the times without anyone noticing?

Today's video reveal was disappointing enough to make me think that — the way you actually play hasn't changed one bit.

Re: #104
It's not like everyone else has evolved so much that they've left GTA in the dust, either.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The thread’s discussion proceeded on the premise that the console version of GTA6 will run at 30fps. In recent years, major open-world titles have commonly offered both a ‘graphics priority’ mode capped at 30fps for better visuals and a ’60fps performance priority’ mode, so judging a game’s quality by frame rate numbers alone may be premature. It’s also worth noting, to understand the shape of this thread, that on the Geha (hardware/industry) board, debates over hardware performance flare up constantly, and because fps and resolution are easier to quantify than the actual game content, they tend to become the central topic of discussion.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry, aka ‘Geha’) thread ‘Why is fps the only thing being discussed even though GTA6 was just revealed?’.
