What a seriously boring guy, honestly
joining the front office right when he could've cashed in big — total snooze of a move.

Re: #3
His solid run as acting manager only looked good because of the contrast with power-harassment Abe.
If Fujikawa, who's got a similar temperament, had suddenly been fired, Hashigami probably would've jumped to the Tigers — but once that chance vanished, he agreed to join the front office instead.

Re: #3
Maybe the Giants front office pays better, who knows?
5AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:41
Wait, Mizuno's the GM? Hashigami's definitely more capable than Mizuno.
8AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:43
He's not exactly got scouting talent though.
Right guy, right spot, maybe?
9AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:44
Huh, the Giants still have some sane judgment left after all.
Well, Matsui's just a figurehead anyway.
10AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:44
He'd be in high demand for manager openings at other clubs, you'd think.
11AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:44
Bad luck that every team's managerial seat is already taken.
15AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:48
Can't let him go elsewhere and shine, that'd be a headache for them.
19AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:50
Re: #15
Transfers to other banks come with a fee, you know. (a pun on "takou"/other bank sounding like "going elsewhere")
17AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:48
Can't risk him going on some ex-pro's YouTube channel and spilling all the inside dirt either.
21AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:51
Re: #17
Yeah, a lot of this stuff we only learned because those guys won't shut up.
18AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:49
He seems like a likely candidate for the next managerial opening at Yakult, Hiroshima, or Rakuten.
20AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:50
He knows all the team's inner workings, so of course they're just locking him in.
22AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:51
They sure love these vague 'deputy' titles — that's the part of this org I don't get.
23AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:52
Come back to Oisix and play some ball with us. (referencing the independent-league club Oisix Niigata Albirex BC)
27AnonymousOct 28, 2026 08:55
If he went elsewhere and won the pennant, that'd be a huge embarrassment for the Giants.
30AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:01
They probably paid him more
than any rival offer just to keep him locked down.
32AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:07
It's a strange organization when guys like Mizuno and Yoshimura are the ones calling the shots.
50AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:34
Re: #32
The Hara-faction guys get preferential treatment.
33AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:08
I don't know…
Was he conveniently nudged off the field to clear the way for the Matsui regime?
Or is this rare front-office entry for an outsider actually the ultimate reward for his service?
Once you're in the Giants front office, it's hard to land a top job at another club again.
Hashigami really agreed to this, huh.
37AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:14
Re: #33
He might genuinely be burned out at this point.
Even just filling in, suddenly fighting for the pennant with the Giants would wreck a normal person's mental health.
36AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:12
The guy who threw away a first-round draft pick needs to take responsibility, seriously.
38AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:15
They just conveniently pushed him out of the dugout, that's all this is.
40AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:17
If Mizuno gets fired for failing to land Oda, will Hashigami finally drop the 'deputy' and get the real title…
41AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:18
He should just go manage somewhere else.
Now's the prime time to cash in, what a waste.
42AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:20
Re: #37
Yeah, I get that feeling too.
He's 60, probably wants to ease off a bit.
The Giants get to keep him locked in, the pay's likely decent — for him, this might be exactly what he wanted.
43AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:20
If he got results elsewhere and made Matsui look bad, that wouldn't sit well with them, so they're just keeping him on ice.
46AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:22
So next season he'll be working alongside Abe?
47AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:26
Well, he's the guy who saved the Giants in their moment of crisis.
They've got to keep him in the front office and employ him for good.
53AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:37
[Deputy] ← this, man, this right here
61AnonymousOct 28, 2026 09:47
Re: #53
Even regular companies have titles like 'deputy department head' or 'deputy section chief.'
72AnonymousOct 28, 2026 10:01
I figured he'd end up managing somewhere.

Re: #72
Every team's spot is already taken.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Hideki Hashigami began this season as offense chief coach, then took over as manager from interleague play after former manager Shinnosuke Abe’s resignation, posting a respectable 52-42-3 record over 97 games. The Giants front office, led by GM of player personnel Yuji Mizuno, tends to fill key posts with alumni who were favored during the Tatsunori Hara managerial era, and the thread pointed to this network of connections as well. Where opinion split was over how to read Hashigami’s treatment: with managerial vacancies scarce at other clubs, some saw his front-office move as the team rewarding and retaining him with generous treatment, while others saw it as being quietly pushed out of the dugout. It’s worth noting that the title “deputy general manager of player personnel” is the same kind of designation as “deputy department head” at an ordinary company, not some Giants-specific demotion — a point that’s easy to misread.
