“I Want to Know the Truth About My Birth”: Former Hikaru Genji Member Mikio Osawa’s Son Demands New DNA Test 13 Years After ‘0% Paternity’ Report

The story

It has come to light that Reiji (29), the eldest son of former Hikaru Genji member Mikio Osawa (57), is once again demanding a DNA test from his father to confirm the truth about his birth — an issue reported on 13 and a half years ago as a “0% probability of paternity.” In a 2015 court ruling, the absence of a parent-child relationship was recognized based on Article 772, Paragraph 2 of the Civil Code and DNA test results, but Reiji claims that “the document I secretly saw when I was 16 said the paternity probability was 99.9%,” creating a discrepancy. On 5ch, comments sparked debate, with people saying things like “That’s weak grounds to overturn a court ruling” and “He should just ask his mother directly.”

“Legally, we’re not recognized as father and son, but people still tell me everywhere I go that I look like my dad. I got married four years ago, so I have a wife now, and I’ll turn 30 next January. I’ve been jerked around by my relationship with my parents this whole time, and even now, the fallout from the old scandal often makes it hard for me to be at work.

The reason I’ve come to talk about where things stand now — even if it means cutting ties with my family — is that I wanted to clearly state my feelings toward my parents in my own words.”

So says Reiji (29), eldest son of Mikio Osawa (57), former member of Hikaru Genji.

Why not just ask the mother?

Re: #2
Exactly. If he really wants to know who his real father is, that's the only way.

They're not naming him, but he kind of looks like one of the other Hikaru Genji members…

Re: #5
Yeah, he does kind of give off that vibe.

The court already ruled there's no parent-child relationship.
There's no way they could've faked that.
Since the whole case hinged on the parent-child relationship, they must have done their own testing.
No court would hand down a ruling just taking an outside test result at face value.

Re: #15
Right.
The court's judgment is more reliable than either side's claims, so if he wants to overturn it now, the only way is to file his own lawsuit.

The fact that he's whining to the media instead of doing that makes his story hard to trust too.

Apparently Japan's rate of "cuckoo-nest" births (paternity fraud) is around 5%. That works out to one or two kids in every school class.

Don't just say "apparently" — show me real numbers.

This case is what made "cuckoo-nest" mothers (paternity fraud) a nationwide talking point.
Apparently among the urban poor it's as high as 6% of kids — that's some modern-day darkness right there.

Calling her "Ms. A" lol
Wasn't she a celebrity?

Mikio Osawa: "I'll support him wholeheartedly, no different from my daughter" — birthday photo with 25-year-old eldest son

If they were still getting along this well back then, I figure he could just take another DNA test.
That would probably satisfy the son too.

Re: #29
But apparently there was domestic violence,
so who knows if they were really "getting along"…
Maybe the kid was just putting up with it this whole time.
And sending it off overseas for testing sounds sketchy too.

> In November 2015, Osawa's claim was accepted, with Article 772, Paragraph 2 of the Civil Code and the DNA test results being the deciding factors.

Both sides had lawyers and went through an actual trial to get that result…
Seems pretty weak to overturn it with just "actually, I secretly looked at some documents when I was 16."

Re: #66
Maybe his mind broke somewhere along the way and rewrote the facts in his head.
If the compulsive-lying thing is true too, then it's all exactly as Osawa says.
It's all just speculation in the end, but it's sad.

Re: #66
Way too weak.
The mother won't even agree to meet him — that pretty much confirms it was paternity fraud.
72AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:22
Why is Kitajima's name being kept out of this lol
She's the one responsible here lol
74AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:22
Why's the eldest son named "Reiji" — that's got "zero" baked into it?
Shouldn't he be "Ichiro" (a name that literally means "first son")?
128AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:32
Re: #74
It's "the one that comes after zero," so that makes him number one, see.
89AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:25
Man, this whole thing is such a mess… Someone should really contact the mother and ask her about the birth too.
104AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:28
Re: #89
Can't reach her.
92AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:25
This was already settled in court —
did the judge misread the test results or something?
Osawa's already living a life apart from yours,
so seriously, just let it go.
118AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:31
Re: #92
There was that ruling not long ago ordering a woman who abandoned three kids from paternity fraud to pay damages.
Feels like that's what's dredging up old cases like this one.
But yeah, seriously, someone should tell him to let it go.

"After that, when Dad and his new wife were out, I secretly searched the room and found the test documents. Where it listed Dad's and my names in the alphabet, it said 'paternity probability 99.9%.' I thought, 'well, of course,' closed the file, and put it back, relieved."

Wait, huh?
So Osawa really was the father?
Then Mai Kitajima isn't the villain here?
163AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:39
Re: #96
If that were true, there's no way Kitajima's side would've stayed quiet.
135AnonymousAug 27, 2026 22:33
It'd be easy if they could just get Kitajima to name the candidates,
but it seems like we won't hear it until she's on her deathbed.

Everyone already knows, lol. Don't complain if you're not interested.
The son and the guy who's rumored to be the father look way too alike — it was obvious.

Even if it was an orgy, it's not like some random stranger was in on it.

Did you actually read what's behind that link?
It says something completely different from what I thought I knew…

If the son is right… then Osawa is the liar.
If Osawa is right… then the son is the liar.

Seriously… what is even going on…

However you slice it, the son's the liar here…

The court already ruled that no parent-child relationship exists.

Background and Key Points

I want to know the truth about my birth: former Hikaru Genji member Mikio Osawa’s son demands new DNA test 13 years after “0% paternity” report.

The background here is the Article 772 dispute this case became famous for. Article 772 of Japan’s Civil Code is the legal provision that presumes any child born to a married woman is her husband’s, regardless of biology — historically used to prevent children from being registered as illegitimate, but it also meant men had very limited ability to contest paternity in court. Osawa’s 2015 case was widely covered in Japan precisely because he successfully overturned that presumption using DNA evidence, at a time when “paternity fraud” (known colloquially in Japanese as *kakko*, or “cuckoo-nest” children, referencing the bird that lays eggs in other nests) was becoming a bigger public talking point. The 5-6% paternity-fraud estimates cited in the thread circulate widely in Japanese media discussions of this topic, though posters themselves note these figures lack a clear, citable source.

The thread’s actual fault line is not “was Osawa cheated on” but whether Reiji’s account is credible enough to reopen a matter a court already settled. Posters largely treat the 2015 ruling — reached with lawyers on both sides — as far more reliable than a memory of a document glimpsed at age 16, and several suggest that if Reiji is serious, the proper channel is a fresh lawsuit, not a media appeal.

What the thread never addresses is why Reiji can’t simply request his own DNA test now as an adult, independent of the mother or a court order — commercial paternity testing doesn’t require either party’s cooperation to initiate on his own sample. That option is conspicuously absent from a discussion otherwise focused on who is lying.
