The story

Minami Minegishi appeared on the late-night TV Tokyo program “Achikochi Audrey” on the 20th, where the mansion her husband — YouTuber Tetsuya of Tokai Online — built in Aichi Prefecture became a hot topic. When host Masayasu Wakabayashi remarked, “That’s quite a house,” Minegishi explained, “It’s a house built entirely on YouTube earnings — built on my husband’s income alone,” adding with a wry smile, “and now this house that doesn’t match my persona at all is out there for everyone to see.” Her comment sparked a wider 5ch discussion about the real scale of YouTuber income, the upkeep costs and property taxes on the mansion, and even comparisons of who among her AKB48 peers has “won” in life.

Talent Minami Minegishi appeared on the late-night TV Tokyo program “Achikochi Audrey,” aired on the 20th. During the show, she let slip her honest feelings about the newly built mansion that caused a stir after its completion in September.

Wakabayashi brought up the topic with guest Minegishi, saying “That’s quite a house,” referring to the massive mansion her husband, YouTuber Tetsuya of Tokai Online, built in Aichi Prefecture — the group’s home base.

Wakabayashi said, “I don’t really get it since I don’t do YouTube myself, so I have no idea how much that kind of thing pays,” admitting he had no clue about real YouTuber income. He continued, “It really does seem incredible,” to which Minegishi, smiling wryly, explained: “It’s a house built purely on YouTube earnings — built on my husband’s income alone.”

Gotta admit, he's got the expense write-offs all sorted out.
4AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:39
The Bald Apology Palace
5AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:39
Better go work as a school lunch lady and actually contribute to society for once (meme-style spelling of "hatarakanaito," meaning "gotta work")
6AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:40
Her image? Isn't it more like… a Buddhist temple?
12AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:44
Re: #6
Oh, so she's the one who "became a nun"? (a joking callback to her 2013 head-shaving)
10AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:44
But YouTubers don't have the tight contracts talent agencies impose, so they always seem to land in trouble fast.
15AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:45
The only YouTubers I even know are HIKAKIN and Hikaru, lol. What do you even do to rack up views like that?
18AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:47
If you're gonna build a mansion, might as well make it look like a Bali resort hotel.
19AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:47
Did she even have a "persona" to begin with?
20AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:48
What's her act besides the underwear-flashing and the shaved-head apology?
22AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:49
Still topping Japan's view counts is insane. Joining UUUM really paid off for him.
23AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:49
What persona does she even have?
She doesn't have an act to begin with.
24AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:50
Just invite a TV crew to shoot at the mansion.
The networks would be grateful for the footage.
25AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:51
What kind of house would've actually matched then?
Is her whole "image" just… the shaved head?
27AnonymousOct 21, 2026 17:57
> Wakabayashi pointed out, "These days, you can't build a house like that no matter how hard you work in TV."

So he's basically admitting TV talent rank below YouTubers now.
Sounds like he's just given up on keeping up appearances as a celebrity.

Her husband was a fan of Minami Minegishi — if he'd never started YouTube, they'd never have met or married.
Apparently he'd been saying since his first year of high school, "I'm going to date Minami Minegishi."
29AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:01
Wakabayashi's raking it in too, publishing essays online.
30AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:01
No no, that house IS Minami Minegishi's whole persona.
32AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:02
It's a house built with her husband's money — "does it match my vibe" isn't even worth worrying about. What's she even talking about.
34AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:05
Can YouTubers actually keep earning forever?
35AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:05
Years later, Minegishi reportedly said that shaving her head back then was basically her trying to generate buzz the way YouTubers do now — the exact opposite of genuine remorse.
36AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:07
The upkeep costs must be brutal.
43AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:12
Re: #36
Right?
I can't imagine they'll still be able to cover the property taxes on that thing 20 years from now.
40AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:09
Minami Minegishi is exactly my type, honestly, but nobody ever agrees with me so I never say it out loud.
41AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:10
She landed a rich guy, so just own it already. "Persona," give me a break.
42AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:11
I'm curious about the property tax on that place.
It'll probably end up a tourist spot.
44AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:16
So in the end, who's the biggest winner — Kojima, Itano, or Minegishi?
50AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:27
Re: #44
Itano and Minegishi haven't really accomplished anything.
Kojiharu's brand succeeded because her husband is capable.
53AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:29
Re: #44
Gotta be CEO Haruna Kojima, hands down.

Though Minegishi's actually cuter now than she used to be.
58AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:32
Re: #44
Dunno about winners and losers, but someone like Sashihara or Kojiharu is probably living in a condo worth around 500 million yen if bought outright.
Even a high floor in a tower condo around Higashi-Ikebukuro easily runs 200-300 million yen.
They're busy, so they need to live somewhere convenient in central Tokyo anyway.
46AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:19
Tetsuya didn't earn this alone.

It was earned by the team called Tokai Online, you know?

Tetsuya's just the leader.

He himself probably never expected to earn this much.

Whether they can keep this up once they're no longer popular is all on Tetsuya.

Re: #46
If you divide the subscriber count by the number of members, it's not actually that impressive.

Per-member, they'd beat Miyasako but lose to Kajisac or Eiko Kano, something like that.
55AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:31
Guess she married into money.
73AnonymousOct 21, 2026 18:45
No need to worry —
the punchline's already "super mansion (but in the middle of nowhere)."

Re: #73
I live in a nearby municipality, but Okazaki isn't exactly the boonies.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Minami Minegishi shaved her head herself back in 2013 as an apology for breaking an AKB48 rule, so thread terms like “Shaved-Head Apology Palace” and “became a nun” are lighthearted callbacks to that incident, not jabs at her current looks. Her husband Tetsuya belongs to Tokai Online, a popular YouTuber group under the UUUM agency whose view counts rank among the highest in Japan. Opinion in the thread split over how to read the income gap between TV talent and YouTubers: some took Wakabayashi’s remark that “you can’t build a house like that no matter how hard you work in TV these days” as self-deprecating humor about the TV industry, while others read it as a simple statement of fact about how much YouTubers earn. Plenty of comments also raised the mansion’s upkeep costs and property taxes, plus doubts about how long YouTuber income can realistically last — suggesting the interest here goes beyond fleeting buzz into the underlying economics.
