The story
Tomoharu Shoji (50), of the comedy duo Shinagawa Shoji, updated his Instagram on the 16th, revealing that his wife, talent Miki Fujimoto (41), had noticed his hair thinning and bought him a wig on Amazon, leaving it in front of his seat. Though conflicted, he wore it anyway, and the photo drew warm reactions like “It suits you” and “I can feel the love.” On the 5ch Geisoku Sokuhou+ (entertainment/sports news) thread, comments split between “it’s understandable to go bald at his age” and teasing jabs at the sight of him in a toupee, with the discussion eventually branching into “why is covering up thinning hair treated so differently from women covering skin with makeup?”
Tomoharu Shoji: “Mikity’s quick, Amazon’s quick… and so is my hair loss…” — Conflicted over the “something” his wife bought him, followers warmed up: “It suits you, looking sharp,” “I can feel the love”
Tomoharu Shoji (50), of the comedy duo Shinagawa Shoji, updated his Instagram on the 16th, writing about a certain item his wife, talent Miki Fujimoto (41), had bought online.
He wrote: “Everyone, it’s really feeling like autumn lately — step into nature and you’ll see the mountain trees have all changed color, turning to autumn foliage, and the nights have gotten cooler. The other day, the top of my head also turned to autumn foliage… no wait, I mean it’s been thinning — and the moment my wife and I talked about it, Mikity went straight to Amazon and bought something, which was sitting in front of my seat before I knew it…” alongside a photo of the wig.

Being bald in your 50s is still the minority, surely.
It's not the Showa era anymore lol
Look at Mimura from Sama-az! (comedian famous for owning his baldness)
I'm in my 40s too and have the same dry, frizzy hair as Shoji's natural hair — it looks awful unless I use a flat iron.
Though I think it's a wasted effort lol
Once you're past 30, you should drink rosehip tea with gelatin powder mixed in to prevent baldness.
Baldness comes down to male hormones and the "balding switch" receptor in your hair follicles — food, booze, cigarettes, shampoo, none of that has anything to do with it.
Right now the only way to actually improve hair loss is the finasteride-and-minoxidil combo.
Especially the wife.
Nobody's even jealous of them, yet somehow they get treated like the ideal couple lol
Well, there's probably some reason they get favorable treatment. There are a few "perks" you can have in showbiz lol
No cheating scandals since they got married
They have two or more kids
They have a show where they appear together as a couple
Probably something like that?
His forehead's just wide — does this guy even know what real baldness looks like?
There are a lot of celebrities like this. Among recent cases, the only one brave enough to be officially certified "bald" is Hanawa lol (comedian known for openly embracing his baldness)
It's actually pretty comfortable.
Especially both guys from Nainai (the comedy duo Ninety-Nine).
Maybe this is just them waiting for a sponsorship deal?
Okamura doesn't hide it, but Yabe's apparently been at it for quite a while now, low-key lol
Baldy 🫵🥺
As long as you keep taking them, you stay full-haired.
Dutasteride, you mean.
There are side effects too — your body hair gets thicker, and you even start growing chest hair and back hair.
completely bald in daily life and at work,
but for some reason, only when he went to the horse races
he'd put on a toupee.
Maybe that was using a wig for its original purpose — as a disguise?
but why does covering up hair loss tend to draw so much harsher criticism? Just an honest question.
There's a general rule that you absolutely must not tease someone whose hair fell out from medication side effects, but it's apparently fair game if it's from aging. Both are things the person can't control, so what's the difference?
These days plenty of women go bald too, but it used to be a men-only problem, so I think what gets mocked is "the petty nature of being bald and refusing to accept it, fussily trying to hide it instead."
Maybe it's about how big the gap is between people who end up that way and people who don't?
Here's a theory: if almost nobody got wrinkles with age but almost everyone went bald instead, the treatment would flip from how it is now.
Any creature tends to be harsher on the minority, after all.
Impressive.
You really can't tell at all.
Must be an expensive one.
You can totally tell…
Are your eyes going bad?
It's never been spotted at my workplace, so I recommend it.
They're whispering about it behind your back —
it's just kindness that lets you believe you haven't been caught.
There's no way anyone would say it to your face.
Background and Key Points of Debate
Tomoharu Shoji is 50, and male-pattern baldness (AGA) tends to progress with age for many men. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are medically recognized as effective, but they aren’t covered by insurance and only work for as long as you keep taking them, making them an ongoing expense. Shoji himself hasn’t disclosed the price or type of wig he bought. The thread raised the question of “why does covering thinning hair with a wig get mocked so much more than women covering skin with makeup,” splitting opinion between those who see it as unequal treatment of a minority and those who object to the act of trying to hide it in the first place. Several celebrities’ names came up regarding whether they disclose or hide their hair loss, but none of this was confirmed by the people themselves — it should be noted this remains speculation within the 5ch thread.
