Switch 2 Circuit Board Repair Price Jumps to ¥37,400 — 5ch: ‘Isn’t That a Rip-off?’

From our other sites

The story

Nintendo has announced that it will revise repair pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch consoles, effective for repairs received on or after November 16, 2026. The Switch 2’s CPU board repair will rise from ¥27,500 to ¥37,400, the Switch’s board repair will go up from ¥14,300 to ¥24,200, and battery replacement will increase from ¥9,900 to ¥11,000. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, opinions were split on whether the hike is due to rising parts costs or an increase in failures, with some pointing out that it’s more expensive than the PS5’s board repair price (¥30,800).

That 'Manshi' DLC bait-and-switch, and now this — they've completely gone money-grubbing. (apparent reference to another game's DLC controversy)

The price hike is brutal…

Buhitch 2 (derisive nickname for the Switch, mocking fanboys)

Until November 15, 2026: ¥27,500

The internals barely perform better than a cheap Chinese tablet, yet the repair cost is brutal.
10AnonymousOct 16, 2026 10:19
I wonder how many people actually paid ¥27,500 to get theirs repaired —
it hasn't even been a year and a half since launch.
11AnonymousOct 16, 2026 10:20
Nintendo's repairs are sloppy, but compared to typical repair market rates they still feel unbelievably cheap —
almost like they're offering it near cost as a customer service.

The original Buhitch is getting a massive price hike too, lol

CPU board repair

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

Meanwhile Sony stopped accepting repairs ages ago —
guess they figured there's no need to fix anything.

Re: #13
What do you mean 'meanwhile'?
Whatever Sony does, it doesn't excuse Nintendo's price hike…

Boards hardly ever break down anyway.
It'd be rough if Joy-Con repairs doubled for every part, though.

Re: #23
If they hardly break, then there's no need to raise the price, right?
40AnonymousOct 16, 2026 10:51
If they ever end free disaster repairs, that's the beginning of the end.
73AnonymousOct 16, 2026 12:19
Re: #40
They'll probably drop it eventually —
there's even a chance they'll refuse repairs altogether. Worst recession we've ever seen.

Battery replacement
Until November 15, 2026: ¥9,900
From November 16, 2026: ¥11,000

This one quietly hurts.
Batteries and controllers are consumables,
so the running costs have gotten pretty steep.

Re: #42
If a model with a user-replaceable battery comes out,
buying a replacement kit might end up being the better deal.

If this were about the PlayStation, we'd already be past two threads by now.

Re: #43
Probably because a wall of fanboys jumps in with crazy excuses, lol
53AnonymousOct 16, 2026 11:32
¥37,400 just for a Switch 2 board swap — isn't that a total rip-off?
PS5 is ¥30,800.
54AnonymousOct 16, 2026 11:34
Re: #53
Seriously…?
57AnonymousOct 16, 2026 11:37
Re: #53
Isn't that cheap only because it's something called 'factory refurbished,' which is basically a used unit?
64AnonymousOct 16, 2026 11:50
Is it about time launch-day buyers' units start breaking down en masse?
65AnonymousOct 16, 2026 11:51
Re: #64
I mean, it's only been a bit over a year — it shouldn't be breaking already…
95AnonymousOct 16, 2026 13:47
But if the repair price is pushing close to ¥40,000, it might actually be better to just buy a new console at the post-hike price…
…then again, there's also a chance the console itself gets another price hike.
96AnonymousOct 16, 2026 13:54
Re: #95
Discontinuing the Japanese-language version is basically a done deal.
98AnonymousOct 16, 2026 13:56
Even setting aside the high price, the whole process is a pain —
printing out the repair request form or hand-writing something like an application number,
filling out a cash-on-delivery slip, and hauling it to a convenience store, Yamato, or the post office.
I'm bad with people, so I don't even want to call and request a pickup.
Meanwhile, when you send a Sharp phone in for repair, they arrange everything on their end.
99AnonymousOct 16, 2026 14:13
(´・ω・`) Way too valid, honestly…

Re: #99
I feel that.
I can never thank ZUN (creator of the Touhou Project) enough for releasing physical packages even though there's no profit in it…
though for some reason he doesn't do it for PS5.

Background and Key Points

This price hike is based on an official announcement from Nintendo, which explicitly cites rising prices for repair parts as the reason for the revision. The Switch 2 is about a year and a half past launch, and some in the thread speculated that this is when failures among launch-day buyers start to increase, but the discussion contains no actual data showing failure rates have risen — it remains purely speculation. Some commenters compared it to the PS5’s board repair price (¥30,800), but Sony has already stopped accepting repairs for some of its console models, so a simple price-only comparison doesn’t have matching conditions. There was also talk of the console’s own price being hiked again, but it’s worth noting that this, too, was floated in the thread as a prediction rather than a confirmed fact.
