Switch 2 sells 22,420 units in weekly charts — 5ch: “Third-party games don’t sell on Switch 2”

From our other sites

The story

In the weekly hardware sales chart for 10/15, Switch 2 sold 22,420 units, PS5 sold 11,911, the original Switch sold 5,806, and Xbox Series sold 0. The thread wasn’t just comparing console unit counts — it also zeroed in on sales of two third-party titles released that same week, “Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III]” and “Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen,” with reports showing the Switch 2 versions far outselling their PS5 counterparts in both cases. Reactions were split on how to read this data against the long-held view that “third-party games don’t sell on Switch 2.”

PS5 owners who already have Dragon's Dogma 2 are all just buying the ¥2,990 "Dark Arisen Expansion" DLC.
Switch 2 never got a release of the original Dragon's Dogma 2, so the only option there is the ¥5,990 version bundled with the full game.
So of course the Switch 2 version wins the weekly sales race —
because every PS5 owner except brand-new buyers is just buying DLC, which doesn't count toward weekly sales numbers.

Yeah, Kingdom Hearts lost after all lol
Dogma 2 lost too lol

Re: #37
Guess third-party games just don't sell on Switch 2.

Re: #37
Is PlayStation really this weak? Losing even with a "this is the only version available" demand buff (i.e. built-in sales from people who have no other choice but to buy it)?

Re: #37
Switch 2's only in year one, after all
The barrier is that third-party games just don't sell enough on it
That's why even Touhou gets snubbed

Ace Combat is holding at 22% of last week's sales, which is actually on the high side
When a game has a loyal fanbase and good buzz, it holds up decently in week two as well

Re: #39
Still hasn't broken 100k though

Re: #43
Star Wars seems to be getting good buzz,
but sales-wise it looks like Steam > PS5
62AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:06
Is Switch 2 going to be okay? No, seriously

Re: #62
Yeah, it's not looking good
No joke

Re: #1
Unbelievable sales for something supposedly in year two lolololol 🤣🤣🤣

Re: #68
You know what PS5's year-two sales looked like? That's the real joke lol

Re: #71
Only 3 PS5 games have outsold Yoshi…
and every one of them is also playable on Switch 2
73AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:08
Re: #45
So which third-party game actually sold on PS5 this week?
122AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:13
Re: #73
Ace Combat 8 is selling even though it's mostly digital-driven —
PS5 moves physical copies too
84AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:09
I know I'll get hate for even questioning this, but
can Switch 2 really keep going at this rate?
Well, Nintendo itself has been pivoting to businesses beyond just games anyway

Re: #84
Wouldn't they normally time it to November when there's a lineup worth choosing from?
109AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:11
Re: #84
Say that again after the year-end sales season wraps up
110AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:11
Re: #84
They're putting out a slightly discounted bundle with a choice of game in November
Nintendo never used to do year-end/New Year discounts like this in the Japanese market — the fact that they're doing it now shows even Nintendo is feeling the pressure
125AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:14
Low 20,000s is starting to look like it's drifting toward 10,000 territory, that's a little worrying
136AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:15
Re: #125
It's not going to drop that far
Low-20k to 28k is the normal pace
It breaks 30k whenever a first-party title releases
That's roughly the pattern
149AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:17
Re: #125
PlayStation's big sales season is over, but Switch 2's sales season is the year-end period
146AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:17
Honestly I figured Kingdom Hearts would come out ahead on PS, but a 3x gap?
DD2 lost on PS too — PS really is the king of tanking third-party sales
159AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:19
Re: #146
Even six years ago with the spin-off rhythm game (Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory), the Switch version outsold the competition in that multi-platform release — and that was before the main series, related titles, or even a cloud version existed on Switch. So this was a foregone conclusion.
160AnonymousOct 15, 2026 22:20
Re: #146
PS doesn't have a new-player base, so it was obvious the Switch 2 version of KH would win
Longtime KH fans already own everything, so only new buyers are driving sales

Background and key points of this discussion

5ch’s Hardware/Industry board (commonly nicknamed “Geha”) is where users compare unit sales across platforms using Media Create’s weekly sales data, and the assumptions behind those numbers — like differing release timing between a base game and its DLC — are a frequent point of contention. In this thread, comment 4 noted that many PS5 owners already own the older versions of Kingdom Hearts or Dragon’s Dogma 2 and are simply buying add-on DLC, which isn’t counted in weekly sales figures — making a direct comparison with the Switch 2 version, which requires a full new purchase, misleading. At the same time, the view that “third-party games don’t sell on Switch 2” had become something of a conventional wisdom on the board, and this thread stands out for how the new data — which actually shows Switch 2 ahead — sparked a re-examination of that assumption. As for Xbox Series showing 0 units in the weekly chart, its sales volume in Japan is small enough that a reported zero in any given week isn’t unusual.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry [Geha]) thread “[10/15] switch2 22,420 PS5 11,911 switch 5,806 xboxseries 0.”
