Hello! Project Fans Barely Overlap with Other Idol Groups — 5ch: “Everyone but Juice and Beyoo Is an NPC”

From our other sites

The story

A visualization showing how much fan overlap exists across the Hello! Project lineup went viral on 5ch. Among Hello! Project’s own 8 groups — Morning Musume., ANGERME, Juice=Juice, and the rest — 24 of 28 possible pairings (86%) show shared listenership. But pairings with female idol groups from other agencies hit only 23 out of 152 possible combinations, and most of those were carried by Juice=Juice alone. The thread lit up with the line “everyone except Juice and Beyoo is an NPC” (village extras, i.e. nobodies), and opinion split on how to read the data: are Hello Pro fans just not listening to other idols, or are other fandoms simply not listening to Hello Pro?

I put together a visualization covering all 8 Hello! Project groups. While the 8 Hello! Project groups share listenership in 24 of 28 possible pairings (86%), pairings with female idol groups from other agencies reach only 23 out of 152 (15%) — and Juice=Juice alone accounts for 15 of those 23.

Delete it! Delete it! Delete it! Delete it! Delete it! Delete it! Delete it! Delete it!

Guess the non-era "Morning Musume." listing (the Spotify page without a year suffix, as opposed to "Morning Musume.'26") and AKB48 are tight, huh
9AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:37
Re: #3
Probably just a lot of fans who stan both ("kenwota" — dual-fandom listeners).
6AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:36
Guess Ebisu Chuugaku (Ebichu) and Hello! Project really do click after all
12AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:39
Re: #6
Ebichu x Hello Pro → ✕
Ebichu x Juice=Juice → ◯
7AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:37
Morning Musume. is really playing the emperor with no clothes here
13AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:40
Re: #7
Uh, AKB48 fans do listen to Morning Musume., though?
10AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:39
Well yeah, that tracks — people are fans of Hello! Project itself, not idols in general
15AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:41
Re: #10
That's exactly why they don't sell — nobody outside the fandom is listening
28AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:46
Re: #10
Is that really something to brag about?
16AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:41
Well of course. Hello Pro fans may be idol fans, but plenty of them are genuinely into the music too.
No overlap with idol fans who are just chasing after some generic hot face
19AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:42
Re: #16
That's exactly why other idol fans look down on you guys
20AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:43
Re: #15
The line only forms if both sides are listening to each other.
Hello Pro fans don't listen to other groups, so there's no way for a line to even appear
29AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:47
Isn't there data for overlap *within* Hello Pro itself (inside the "village")?
That'd actually be the important one lol

Re: #19
Why should liking music get me mocked for it?
If anything, I'm just not into the generic pretty faces other idol fans are busy stanning
40AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:51
Re: #38
You're getting mocked because you claim it's all about the music and then immediately start talking about faces
41AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:51
Morning Musume.'26
ANGERME
Literally nobody's listening to these, huh
46AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:53
Re: #41
Musume. fans do listen to AKB48 — but literally nobody listens to ANGERME lol
44AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:51
So besides Juice=Juice and Beyooooonds fans, everyone else only listens to Hello! Project?
Sounds like a "mild yankee" (slang for insular types who never leave their hometown scene) living their whole life in a tiny bubble
50AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:55
Re: #44
How do you even determine someone's a "Hello Pro fan" in the first place? Enlighten me lol
45AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:53
Does this mean Hello Pro fans aren't listening to other idols' songs?
Or that other fandoms aren't listening to Hello Pro's songs?
51AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:56
Wasn't it said a while back that the "slow-burn" appeal (lit. "low-temperature burn") really lands with Sakamichi/Sashihara-produced-group fans? What happened to that theory?
53AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:57
Re: #51
Maybe that'd hold up if people actually gave it a listen — but nobody does
57AnonymousOct 14, 2026 14:58
Re: #45
If both sides are listening to each other, the line connects.
If only one side is, it doesn't

Re: #57
So what data was this even based on? Show your source
60AnonymousOct 14, 2026 15:02
Re: #59
Spotify data

Re: #59
Probably went through each group's page like this one on October 12-13 and checked the pairings

Before the golden-age fans drifted over to AKB48, Hello Pro fans were just regular idol fans like everyone else. When did Hello Pro turn into a den of music nerds?
71AnonymousOct 14, 2026 15:09
Re: #66
Probably around when everyone was figuring out what to do with Hello Pro after Tsunku was gone, and Hashimoto started pushing the "we're putting real care into the music!" angle on YouTube and elsewhere
73AnonymousOct 14, 2026 15:10
Re: #66
Probably because low-skill, mass-produced idol groups multiplied.
It curdled into this ugly elitist mindset, didn't it

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

These figures appear to be based on Spotify’s “related artists” feature, which the original poster linked to directly. That feature, however, produces estimates derived from overlapping listening histories and playlists — it isn’t primary data that directly shows whether individual fans are actually listening to both artists. That’s why some in the thread pointed out that “this chart doesn’t tell you which side isn’t listening,” making it premature to conclude that no shared listenership automatically means Hello Pro fans don’t listen to other groups. The fact that the seven groups besides Juice=Juice and Beyooooonds show almost no connections to other agencies’ groups also ties into Hello! Project’s history of building its own distinct fan culture, with some commenters pointing to a fanbase that places unusually heavy weight on musicianship.

※This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Hello Pro found to have no listeners outside Juice and Beyoo but NPCs.”
