Idol Fest Mosh Pit Shuts Down the Music Mid-Song — 5ch: “Moshing Makes It ‘Real’? Lame.”

From our other sites

The story

At a Gunma-chan idol festival show, audience members engaged in moshing and other dangerous behavior, forcing the song to stop mid-performance and the show to be halted. The performing group’s official account commented that the stoppage was “the organizers’ decision,” and reportedly also said they intend to put on a “real festival unbound by regulations.” On 5ch, opinions split between those backing the organizers for prioritizing safety and those criticizing the lack of clear rule announcements and inconsistent handling by staff, with many also questioning the whole point of moshing at an idol show in the first place.

Being able to mosh makes it "the real deal"?

Lame.

I feel like there was a gag called "Mosh Muramura"
Whose bit was that again?

Re: #9
It's "Monsieur Muramura"
It's Gun Rock's catchphrase from Space Ninja Gomes (a tokusatsu show)

Re: #9
Dacho Club (the comedy trio)
15AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:28
What kind of mindset makes someone want to mosh while listening to idol songs?
29AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:40
Re: #15
It's like, "I can't just stand there watching the singing and dancing, so we'll hype it up ourselves"
16AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:29
Kicked off the dance floor, and now mosh-diving's banned too (´・ω・`)
18AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:29
An idol group that condones dangerous behavior — isn't that a bit too dangerous?
20AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:29
If they'd just kept singing and dancing even after the backing track cut out, they could've become legends.
25AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:38
Re: #20
They lip-sync, so singing without the track playing isn't an option
45AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:56
Re: #20
They kept singing even after the music stopped, though
64AnonymousOct 14, 2026 12:19
Re: #20
If this were THE iDOLM@STER, the audience would've sung along with the cast
21AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:30
Don't really get it, but it sounds kind of cringe
22AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:32
Never heard of this group, but they've got a pretty cute lineup.
Also, they should clearly spell out exactly which actions count as "dangerous," and rather than cancelling outright, wouldn't a staged approach — one warning, resume, then cancel only if nothing improves — have been better?
Still, for the otaku crowd it's basically just "serves you right" lol
27AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:38
Is this group basically picking a fight with the event organizers here?
30AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:41
Apparently this event has the prefectural or city government involved somehow
If someone gets injured it's game over for them, so of course they'd shut it down

Re: #30
I read an article about this
Rules banning moshing and other dangerous acts were announced ahead of time
But on the day, moshing broke out in several spots and got overlooked
Yet this particular group got cut off mid-song and had their set cancelled outright, so some people feel that's unfair
31AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:42
This doesn't look like the moshing I know
Maybe because it's otaku doing it?
32AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:42
What even is moshing~?
40AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:49
Re: #32
It's like "oshikura manju" (a kids' pushing-huddle game)
54AnonymousOct 14, 2026 12:08
Re: #32
It started in hardcore and punk scenes — a big group circling around in the middle of the floor
It's dangerous because people shove each other and it can turn into a pile-up
34AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:43
Underground idol shows are basically all like this now, so if you crack down strictly you can barely even call it a show anymore
35AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:46
A mosh pit full of smelly dudes sounds like hell
38AnonymousOct 14, 2026 11:47
If it's banned, then this time it can't be helped
Guess you just go find somewhere you're allowed to do it
55AnonymousOct 14, 2026 12:11
This is less "moshing" and more a variant of a Wall of Death
Feels more dangerous than circle pits
63AnonymousOct 14, 2026 12:18
Re: #55
Amateur Walls of Death like this are dangerous because if it turns into a pile-up, nobody picks anyone back up
And people who get dragged in without knowing what's happening can't brace themselves for the fall
69AnonymousOct 14, 2026 12:22
Re: #54
Sounds like a Bon Festival dance lol
71AnonymousOct 14, 2026 12:26
Re: #69
Well, it's basically a fast, full-contact version of Bon dancing

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Moshing originated as an audience-participation style from overseas punk and hardcore scenes, and in recent years it’s crept into some idol venues as well. This particular event appears to have had a public, local-government connection, and there are claims that rules banning dangerous behavior were announced beforehand. What split the thread was, first, how to judge the organizers’ response — should the show have been stopped the instant dangerous behavior appeared, or would a staged response with a warning first have been better — and second, how to read the group’s comment about wanting to “put on a real festival unbound by regulations.” Those defending the organizers argue it’s too late once someone’s hurt, while skeptics point to the unfairness of moshing being overlooked in multiple spots that day while only this one group’s show got cancelled. Understanding of what moshing actually is also varies a lot between posters, suggesting the term itself has spread faster than any real grasp of what it involves.
