Honestly I'd rather watch the Naoya Railway channel on YouTube than Peace-kun the goat at Omiya Park.
5AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:05
I basically always grab the very back row at the movies.
7AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:06
Yeah… he's definitely exaggerating.

Re: #7
At that level, it wouldn't be surprising if a guy like that actually existed.

Re: #7
When you've got no material, you end up with boring stories like this one.
Try picking a topic with a bit more realism.
Even he probably thinks this one's a bit of a stretch.

Same as people who sing along at live concerts. Go to karaoke instead.

The back corner seat in a small theater is the strongest pick. I'm past the stage of caring about picture quality or sound.

Re: #1
Him being a fan of RC Succession (Kiyoshiro Imawano's band) was surprisingly unexpected — guess it's just his generation though.
16AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:11
Not quite to this extent, but movie theaters and concerts really are a gamble when it comes to who ends up sitting around you…

Re: #16
I feel that. Had heavyset guys sit on both sides of me at a concert once — three big dudes crammed in a row, so cramped.

Re: #18
At Jingu Stadium's infield seats, if you've got big guys on both sides, there are spots where you physically can't even sit down.

Re: #18
You too, huh? (lol)

Higashino's got so many hobbies — how many hours does he even sleep?
21AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:17
Nah, just move seats. Don't you have legs?
23AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:19
The old Higashino wouldn't have let himself end up in such a pathetic spot.

Is a taxi driver the only person a comedian can get pushy with?
28AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:22
I'd buy it if this were Osaka, but this is Tokyo, right?
29AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:22
City theaters are pretty packed, but out in the countryside, unless it's some huge new blockbuster, screenings are usually half-empty — if someone weird sits nearby, I just move myself. Honestly there are barely ever other customers, just a handful of people.
30AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:22
Sounds like the guy just wanted to sing more than watch the movie. It's that kind of film, so maybe just sing along with him. Getting your seat kicked repeatedly is just bad luck though.

Re: #30
Save that for a cheering/sing-along screening.
31AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:24
Re: #5
Like when the seat in front of you has a huge guy, or an old lady in a giant hat…
39AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:28
Re: #31
That could happen in literally any seat though.

Re: #39
Front row…!

Re: #39
If you're in the front row, there's no one in front to cause trouble.
33AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:25
On Nagano's YouTube channel, Higashino once said something like, "I'd read Music Life magazine for the foreign-celebrity gossip, while Yoichi Shibuya's radio show drilled his particular take on Western music history into me."

Re: #33
Turns out Higashino really knows his stuff.
49AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:35
I just realized I'm now the same age Kiyoshiro was when he died.
50AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:36
Re: #49
Props for being 20 years past that age! lol
70AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:50
Whether it's movies or concerts, I often end up with annoying people seated near me, so I don't go unless I'm genuinely interested. Though I'll admit classical concerts and Takarazuka audiences are never like this.
72AnonymousOct 13, 2026 17:55
Re: #70
Even at classical concerts, you sometimes get people flipping through the program during the performance. That's actually pretty noisy, but apparently it's a sound older folks in particular have trouble noticing.

Background and Key Points of This Story

The film Higashino watched was a documentary marking the 55th anniversary of Kiyoshiro Imawano’s debut — the seat trouble itself had nothing to do with the film’s content. Reactions in the thread split between skepticism that the story was exaggerated and practical advice, such as “even with assigned seating, you can move if there’s an empty seat” or “if it’s genuinely disruptive behavior, report it on the spot.” Note that the phrase “mohawk-like” simply describes the person’s hairstyle and isn’t a reference to any particular group or culture — an easy point to misread. Topics about movie theater seating etiquette come up regularly on 5ch, and this thread likewise drew a wave of posts from people sharing similar experiences.
