The story
On a Hello! Project-related board, comments made by Morning Musume’s Sato Masaki (nicknamed “Ma-chan”) on a talk show became a hot topic. After taking her manager’s warning not to lie a little too literally, she reportedly told fans waiting in line at a handshake event things she wasn’t supposed to reveal — like the new single’s release date — and word spread, drawing in other members’ fans eager for info too. The thread was full of sympathy for her manager (“must be exhausting”), along with a callback to a 2016 episode where she convinced then-leader Fukumura Mizuki that it would be “minus 0°C” the next day with a made-up forecast. Once again, her reputation as someone who simply “can’t pull off a lie” became the talk of the thread.

In a good way, I mean — in a good way, this is meant in a good way.

Sato: "Sorry, I can't say that — it's confidential."
Wouldn't that have worked just fine?
She wouldn't even have had to lie.

Being half-asleep doesn't count as lying.

Didn't know that
Fukumura's pretty funny
Leader Fukumura Mizuki totally falls for Sato Masaki's sloppy lie, warns everyone to bundle up: "It'll be minus 0°C tomorrow! Dress warm!" [Unauthorized reposting prohibited] (c)2ch.net

Good evenin' (*´∀`*)ノん
We had a concert today in Yuuki-chan's hometown of Hokkaido
The venue looked so pretty with everyone doing the Ma-chan call and the soft, fluffy emerald green glow of the lightsticks
And then Yuuki-chan totally fooled me…

Yesterday she told me, "It'll be minus 0°C tomorrow! Dress warm!"
…minus 0°C, huh
So I went ahead and dressed somewhat warm just in case, oops oops
Then I checked the actual weather forecast and went (@'ω'@) huh?
Wait a secooond?! (`Δ´)!
Well, the concert was fun and Yuuki-chan seemed to be having a blast, so I guess it's fine~

> I thought lying was off-limits, so I just told them everything
> And then my manager went "Sato!" and I immediately said "Yes! Sorry!" before I even understood why
Apologizing without even understanding what you did wrong is the worst lie of all.
A Buddha-like world that interrogates the human psyche
This 2016 clip is all that's left

But I wouldn't want her as family
Background and Key Points of This Topic
Sato Masaki joined Morning Musume in 2010 and is a popular member known by the nickname “Ma-chan.” Her honest, can’t-tell-a-lie personality has long been a running gag, and the 2016 episode cited in the thread — where she convinced then-leader Fukumura Mizuki of a made-up temperature forecast — is often cited as a prime example. There are contractual lines around what information can be revealed at handshake events and other appearances, and while her manager’s instruction not to “lie” was meant to encourage courtesy and sincerity, Sato apparently took it literally and ended up revealing undisclosed information like the new single’s release date — and that’s what sparked the discussion in the thread. Reactions split between those who found it endearingly honest and cute, and those who felt the manager’s coaching approach was at fault, with the conversation mostly unfolding as fans enjoying her quirky personality.
