The story
Bushiroad announced that combined worldwide shipment projections for the first and second sets of its “Palworld Official Card Game” trading card game will surpass 11 million packs by early November. In response, threads on the Gehabu (hardware/industry) board quickly filled with comparisons to the scale of established major TCGs like the Pokémon Card Game, One Piece Card Game, and Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG. Some pointed out that announcing “shipment numbers” rather than actual sales is itself a Sony-style tactic, and while most agreed shipment figures aren’t the same as units actually sold, the thread split over just how impressive the raw number really is.
Bushiroad announced that the combined projected worldwide shipments for the first and second sets of its new trading card game, Palworld Official Card Game, will top 11,000,000 packs by early November.

Same move Sony pulls
What's wrong with shipment numbers?
That's probably the only nitpick left for you Pork-fans (ブタ/"pigs," this board's slur for Sony/PlayStation fanboys) since you can't admit Palworld Cards are a hit.
So what deck are you running?
Show me the list.
Pokémon moves 10 billion cards a year, so this looks pretty underwhelming next to that.
Made me think, couldn't they have at least papered the house for that one?
Duel Masters: ¥50 billion
One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!: ¥45 billion
Palworld: ¥4.4 billion
If you frame it as '1/10th the size of One Piece or Yu-Gi-Oh!,' doesn't that actually sound pretty impressive?
Because wasn't the whole pitch that this would beat Pokémon?
Nope, doesn't sound impressive to me.
If I remember right, that Pokémon figure was domestic (Japan-only) numbers.
Pretty sure it's not Japan.
Apparently it's huge in the States.
At least according to Bushiroad, lol.
Just looked it up, Pokémon Cards first released in 1996, right?
Even if you were a 1st grader back then, you'd be around 37 or 38 now.
Well, Sony's involved in this, so…
Judging by how little this thread's grown, nobody really cares, lol.
Even the Gokis and Porks (ゴキ/ブタ, this board's slurs for Nintendo and Sony fans) who were using it as a bashing stick aren't interested, lol.
No matter how much you milk it, all that does is boost hype for Pokémon's next installment.
Not even realizing you're just being laughed at for the comparison to Palworld — that's a bold look.
Impressive.
I picked some up myself and built a Pentama (a Palworld creature) mono-color deck, and it's actually pretty fun.
Even just on laughs, it can't beat a single Mega Starmie, and the laughs it gets here are the scornful kind.
Is there anything bigger than getting called 'unreasonable' by an actual government agency?
When it's this bad, it stops being funny.
How far does this hatred go?
If you're going there, then why not bash Pokémon too? It brings in a ridiculous amount of foreign currency.
Literally a different order of magnitude.
Background and Points of Debate
A trading card game’s “shipment number” refers to the quantity scheduled for delivery to retailers, which is different from the number actually sold to consumers (actual sales). The thread’s comparison point — “Pokémon Cards move roughly 10 billion cards a year” — is a combined domestic-and-overseas estimate, and the counting scope and time period may not line up exactly, so simple ratio comparisons should be taken with caution. The number of cards packed per pack also varies by product, making it hard to gauge market scale from pack counts alone. The thread split over how to read this 11-million-pack figure: some saw it as “impressive even at 1/10th the scale of One Piece or Yu-Gi-Oh!,” while others saw it as “underwhelming, given this was supposed to rival Pokémon.” Notably, the rivalry mentality between hardware/content camps that’s typical of the Gehabu board strongly colored how the comparison was framed.
