PS5 aims for “15-15” — 5ch: “The only hardware that’s ever gone 15-15 against Nintendo is PlayStation”

From our other sites

The story

On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (“Geha”) board, users were debating whether the PS5 can pull off a “15-15” — matching Nintendo’s platforms title-for-title in the weekly hardware sales chart — by the end of the fiscal year. “15-15” is board slang for having an equal number of PlayStation and Nintendo titles land in the weekly top sales rankings, and the thread title’s “I’ve come to end this war” riffs on a well-worn manga catchphrase. Some posters hoped the upcoming GTA6 (aka “Grasef” in Japanese shorthand) would shift the tide, but opinions split over whether PS4 had ever genuinely hit 15-15 in the past, and the talk branched into another topic — the shifting loyalties of third-party publishers.

This last-ditch push to hit 15-15 by the end of the fiscal year — the real fight starts from here.

GTA6 is about to flip the whole momentum — seriously, watch and see, you guys.

Yeah, yeah — don't waste your life on this, don't waste it.

Saying it's "already over," same as One Piece — pretty sophisticated self-deprecation for a Geha post.

Why are people even that hung up on a tie like 15-15…?
14AnonymousOct 11, 2026 08:47
Re: #11
Because it's a long-cherished goal they still haven't pulled off.
If they don't manage it before discs get discontinued, they'll be stuck getting mocked for it forever.

Re: #14
A tie is the cherished goal? Sounds like they've basically given up on actually winning?
20AnonymousOct 11, 2026 08:58
Re: #15
30-0 is clearly out of reach, so maybe they figure 15-15 is at least doable — but to begin with, nobody's even confirmed whether any past PlayStation generation actually hit that (15-15) mark.
16AnonymousOct 11, 2026 08:50
PS, Xbox, Steam and the like are rivals and all, but Nintendo's in a league of its own, you know.

Re: #16
That's the part I don't get at all.
Those other guys are basically just Dell, HP, and Asus at this point, right?
21AnonymousOct 11, 2026 08:59
PS4 was genuinely strong, though — it hit 15-15 plenty of times.
43AnonymousOct 11, 2026 09:22
Re: #21
If you're gonna say "plenty of times," you must remember the exact dates, right?
25AnonymousOct 11, 2026 09:00
Why can't people grasp that PS5 games have zero legs at all — unless 15 titles line up in the exact same week, 15-15 is flat-out impossible.

Re: #25
Even the AAA title Wolverine had vanished from the rankings by week 3, and Trails to Azure (Sora no Kiseki 2nd Chapter), which actually outsold Wolverine, disappeared by week 2…

Starting a whole new thread over every little thing like this.

PS5, both arms and legs torn off and both eyes gouged out by the Switch 2:
"Haah… haah… gimme… gimme a game that'll sell a million copies…"
IF: "What are you talking about, PS5?
Aquaplus already defected to Switch.
Nippon Ichi went full Nintendo over a difference in direction.
Gust is a Nintendo Direct regular now too.
Falcom's throwing everything into Switch…
I'm the only one left."
IF: "And with discs gone, hitting a million copies is basically hopeless now anyway."

Re: #45
Isn't "I" actually the one who went multiplatform pretty early on?
"A," by contrast, stayed loyal out of obligation right up until it got bought out and had its leadership replaced.
62AnonymousOct 11, 2026 10:11
"PlayStation pulled off 15-15 against Nintendo" — how many years ago are we even talking about? Tell me that actually happened and, honestly, I've genuinely never heard of it.
And before that — if you can't even grasp that 15-15 isn't a win, just stay quiet.

Already forgot that PS4 once pushed it all the way to 19-11?

"One Piece: Ocean's Feast Restaurant" is dropping on Switch 2 and Steam this month, but PS5 got snubbed.
Why?

I figured it was just being treated as an afterthought, but PS5 actually got outright snubbed? Lol.

It's a Kairosoft game, so like the Doraemon one, won't it just come to PS5 later?
72AnonymousOct 11, 2026 10:49
Re: #65
Never heard of it.
"Pushed it," huh? You mean it only hit 15-plus a single time?
And you can still act cocky about that?
Only once is honestly embarrassing — you'd be better off staying quiet.

Re: #72
So you're saying PS5, which has had 30-0 pulled on it over and over, is finished…?

Hey Sperai, what's your favorite One Piece arc?

Probably the part where Sanji and Zeff part ways.

Even once GTA drops, it probably won't budge Japan's market share at all — dead silence — and people are gonna lose their minds over that too.

Re: #85
No way it's total dead silence.
It'll blow at least some kind of hole in things.

Background and key points of this discussion

“15-15” and “30-0” are slang terms Geha (hardware/industry board) regulars use to describe how many PlayStation versus Nintendo titles land in the weekly hardware sales rankings (roughly the top 30). It isn’t an official statistic — it’s an unofficial metric fans tally themselves off the weekly charts, which is why it can read as baffling to anyone unfamiliar with the term. The thread grew out of the goal of “hitting 15-15 (an even split) by the end of the fiscal year”; the thread title’s “I’ve come to end this war” riffs on a well-known manga/anime line and isn’t describing any literal conflict. Replies split over whether PS4 ever actually achieved 15-15, with some insisting “it happened multiple times” and others countering “it only happened once” — a sign of just how fuzzy everyone’s memory of the actual numbers is. The talk also branched into a separate topic — shifting allegiances among third-party publishers (Nippon Ichi, Gust, Falcom, and others) — underscoring that the industry dynamics at play go well beyond a simple win/loss framing.
