Komeo Announces Closure of ‘Kappo Komeo’ Restaurant Amid Food Poisoning Scandal

The story

“Kappo Komeo,” a restaurant in Azabu-Juban, Tokyo, has announced its closure. The restaurant previously caused a food poisoning outbreak, and Komeo is reportedly involved in running it. On 5ch’s Entertainment/Sports News+ thread, commenters speculated the closure might really be a rebrand aimed at a “comeback,” pointing out that the crab ramen shop “Kani wo,” also said to be linked to the same operator, is still open as usual. Others focused on hygiene management, suggesting HACCP (hygiene control plan) records may not have been properly kept, leaving opinion split on what’s really behind the closure.

It's just a rename-and-'comeback' move, right?
Mizoguchi's into that kind of thing too.

Re: #21
Candidates for what replaces it:
Komeo Chinese Diner, Bistro Komeo, Ristorante Komeo

Re: #21
A comeback in Azabu-Juban seems unlikely anyway
Sounds like the shopping district folks were furious
27AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:10
Hey, hey?
Is this really worth this much of an uproar?
A bunch of grown adults all piling on
Management was a little lax, sure
Just tighten it up, that's all

Re: #27
Food poisoning is no joke — some cases are mild, but others can be fatal.

Re: #27
Don't talk nonsense
We're the ones
who went through hell over this
it was seriously brutal
this sucks
29AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:11
Because everyone's ganging up on him.
35AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:12
Re: #29
Komeo's the one doing the bullying here — poisoning people is some next-level bullying.
102AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:17
Re: #29
More like a terrorist spreading poison.
37AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:12
Honestly, Komeo's not even at fault here.
It's just haters mad he's making money, blowing this food poisoning thing up.
Eating food made by an ex-con makes you an anti by definition anyway.

Re: #37
Uh… I honestly can't tell what you're trying to say.
50AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:13
He'll probably go on Breaking Down (a Japanese amateur fight show) for an 'atonement match' against someone like Mizoguchi.
109AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:18
Re: #50
Nah, it'd have to be a crab match…
151AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:23
Re: #50
Honestly, I could see that happening.
159AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:24
So they hadn't done a single thing — no stool tests, no hygiene records, nothing?

It's not even that they were slacking off — this guy probably thought 'wait, you're actually supposed to do that?'
189AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:28
Re: #159
Huh? Isn't cooking just about whether it tastes good?
193AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:29
Re: #159
HACCP compliance is mandatory now.
You have to log things like daily fridge temperature checks.
And when cooking in bulk, you're required to keep food samples on hand too.
199AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:30
Kani wo, the crab-ramen specialty shop,
has kept running without a single day off even after the food poisoning case,
so Komeo's probably closing simply because customers stopped showing up.
269AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:39
Re: #199
Wait, what?
They actually reopened at some point?
283AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:41
Re: #269
That ramen was served under the Kappo Komeo name,
so the crab ramen shop itself has been running as usual the whole time.
302AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
Re: #269
The story is the chilled crab ramen was cooked and served out of the Kappo Komeo kitchen,
which is why Kappo Komeo got shut down.

People online are saying they probably used ingredients from Kani wo, the crab ramen specialty shop,
but Kani wo itself has kept operating normally without any closure, even now.
239AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:36
He opened a restaurant just off reading recipe books in prison — that's a pretty reckless thing to do.
261AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:38
Re: #239
Prison hygiene management is actually way stricter than at a regular restaurant.
Even so, food poisoning still happens there occasionally.
271AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:39
Re: #261
It's not like the inmates are the ones handling hygiene management though.
312AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:45
Re: #261
Did this guy even actually do the cooking in prison to begin with?
301AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
He probably can never get back into the food industry again.
If he did, it'd definitely cause reputational damage to other businesses by association.
Even just having Komeo as an investor would be nothing but a debuff at this point.
305AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:43
Re: #301
Sounds like Kani wo is still open though.
308AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:44
Re: #305
If people want to go, let them go, I guess?
333AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:47
Re: #305
Mind your own business — whatever else he's running elsewhere is Komeo's call, not yours.
345AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:48
By the way, that Bird Cafe guy (infamous for a 2011 skimpy New Year's osechi scandal)
went into hiding for a while
but he's still running restaurants today.
354AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:49
Re: #345
Well, that one was just skimpy/underfilled — they never actually caused food poisoning…
362AnonymousOct 1, 2026 19:51
Re: #345
Yeah, that one had a similar vibe — people were saying 'don't half-ass your osechi, make it yourself,' kind of a 'serves them right for the skimpy osechi' pile-on.

Background and Key Points of This Story

“Kappo Komeo” previously caused a food poisoning incident, and this closure announcement appears to follow administrative measures such as a business suspension. Hygiene management plan (HACCP) record-keeping has been mandatory for all food businesses since June 2021, so if the claims raised in the thread — that temperature logs and stool-test records weren’t being kept — are accurate, this wasn’t just bad luck but a real failure of the management system itself. Opinions were split on whether the closure reflects a withdrawal due to poor business or an attempt to relaunch under a different name, with speculation spreading on both sides without confirmed evidence. Some also questioned why the crab ramen shop “Kani wo,” said to be run by the same operator, has kept operating normally, but the thread never established exactly how much equipment or ingredients the two shops actually shared, so no firm conclusion can be drawn.
