The story

L’Arc-en-Ciel will reissue 12 albums from its back catalog as limited-edition vinyl records between January and March 2027. Alongside the announcement, the band revealed a promotion in which 50 winners, chosen by lottery from fans who purchase all 12 titles, will receive a box set capable of storing every release. On 5ch, reactions ranged widely — from skepticism about the point of pressing vinyl from digital masters, to accounts of past limited editions fetching high prices on secondhand marketplace apps, to frustration that the prize goes to only 50 lottery winners rather than everyone who buys the full set.

ark and ray were the peak, honestly (fan nicknames for the albums 'ark' and 'ray')

Re: #5
Yo, fellow old-timer from the same generation!
7AnonymousSep 30, 2026 22:56
Are they actually cutting these from analog masters?
If it's just a vinyl pressing of a digital master, it's nothing but a pointless collector's trinket.
8AnonymousSep 30, 2026 22:57
What's the deal with the rumor that L'Arc's stuff is made by big-name producers while PUMPS (hyde and tetsu's side unit) is all self-produced?
9AnonymousSep 30, 2026 22:59
DUNE always gets left out, huh
Can't be helped since it's on a different label.
27AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:06
Re: #9
Probably because DUNE already got its own limited vinyl release.
10AnonymousSep 30, 2026 22:59
The song from the 'dancing on a tennis court' video is the best one.
11AnonymousSep 30, 2026 22:59
Don't make it a lottery prize, just sell the box outright.
12AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:00
So their last album was back in 2012, huh.
16AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:02
New merch keeps coming out one after another, rough for the diehard fans
No amount of money would ever be enough, huh.
17AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:02
I listened up through REAL, liked it back then.
20AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:04
My ears can't tell the difference with analog anyway, so whatever.
21AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:04
The album covers are lame every single time
Is that some kind of intentional look?
23AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:04
Summer Sonic was so good I'm going to my first solo show in 25 years
Wish me luck.
25AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:04
I bet a lot of people who buy this just display it without ever playing it
The core fans buying this probably don't even care about sound quality.
28AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:06
If it's just for the cover art, I'd want True and Heart (studio albums)
I'd love to display those in my room.
29AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:06
What I actually want is a vinyl best-of compilation.
30AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:07
> A giveaway is also planned for buyers of all 12 titles. From the entrants, 50 winners chosen by lottery will receive a box that can store every release.

So even if you buy everything, only 50 people actually get it…

Re: #32
When they did this for singles, everyone got one — this is a downgrade.

Re: #30
Entering the giveaway means tearing the entry ticket off the record
so it's no longer a complete, sealed item with all accessories for resale
Fans will just buy two ¥6,900 copies each — one to enter/listen to and one to keep mint
and repeat that 12 times.
32AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:08
> A giveaway is also planned for buyers of all 12 titles. From the entrants, 50 winners chosen by lottery will receive a box that can store every release.

Just give it to everyone lol
They'd probably sell better bundling the storage box in and pricing it at a premium.
34AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:09
I used to spin L'Arc vinyl back when I DJed too — the REAL one.
35AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:09
What does 'going analog' even mean here?
Are they putting it out on cassette tape or something?
36AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:09
Back during a best-of album campaign, you could enter without even buying anything
and win an AIBO robot dog — the 'thanks for entering' email was worded
like you'd actually won, which caused a bit of a stir.
39AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:17
Everything from their early stuff through Pieces was great, but I couldn't get into NEO UNIVERSE or around STAY AWAY — they'd changed too much.
58AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:45
Re: #39
NEO UNIVERSE is the best one lol
If anything it's their masterpiece.
41AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:21
It's just a storage box — they should give it to everyone who buys the whole set lol
46AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:25
This is just people born '81-'85 wanting to go back to October '96 (^_-) (L'Arc's early rise)
55AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:43
Re: #46
Are you psychic or something
Dead on.
48AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:26
Records wear down as the needle cuts into them, right? So the more you play them, the more the sound degrades compared to cassette tape?
59AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:46
Re: #48
Tape stretches out way faster than that.
51AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:30
Back in L'Arc's early days, they were probably still recording on analog, huh.
53AnonymousSep 30, 2026 23:35
Re: #51
So they were recording while shushing everyone around them, huh?
84AnonymousOct 1, 2026 00:28
The DUNE LP sold for ¥35,000 on Mercari, so buying these to resell isn't a bad idea. (Mercari = a Japanese flea-market app)
88AnonymousOct 1, 2026 00:32
Re: #84
I checked and the limited REAL LP is also going for high prices on Mercari. I regret throwing away the envelope-style outer sleeve — it would've sold for even more with that intact.
85AnonymousOct 1, 2026 00:29
My favorite L'Arc song might honestly be 'flower'
I cried because I didn't get to hear it at Summer Sonic.

Re: #85
The intro is the best part, I think.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Amid the recent vinyl revival, L’Arc-en-Ciel’s past limited editions have increasingly been resold at high prices on secondhand marketplace apps. In the thread, fans shared firsthand accounts of limited LPs like “DUNE” and “REAL” fetching tens of thousands of yen on Mercari. Meanwhile, the fact that the storage box prize goes to only 50 lottery winners among buyers of all 12 titles drew criticism, with some pointing out that past single releases gave the bonus to every purchaser — leading some fans to call this lottery system a step backward. Note that the entry method and number of winners reflect only what was announced at the time, and details such as how entry tickets are handled are based on posts in the thread rather than confirmed information; the official terms should be verified through the band’s official announcement.
