So you're into 37-year-old shut-ins?

Re: #15
Being so spoiled by his mother is infuriating 😭 sigh…
Not 37 years old — he's 52 and has been a shut-in for 37 years
His mother is 80
And his sister is 56 and just got hit by a romance scam, lol

Maaya, you seem like you'd be popular in real life though

Re: #16
I'm not popular at all 😭 sigh…
One of my happiest memories from my part-time job is a tall, average-looking guy (already had a girlfriend) who'd talk to me every time we crossed paths
He got married in no time, but he kept talking to me even after the wedding
I wonder why he even talked to me…

What, a new character just showed up? The legend of "Masaki"

Sounds like something out of "The Non-Fiction" (a Japanese documentary TV series)

Re: #19
Maybe it wasn't that he was into you — maybe you were just easy for him to talk to?

Re: #26
He and I worked different jobs so we didn't run into each other much
But we happened to meet on my first day at the part-time job
He introduced himself to me first
After that, whenever we crossed paths he'd say things like, "Aren't you cold? You're wearing a cardigan for sun protection"
Or he'd suddenly show up while I was working and show me an old anime-branded ruler, saying, "Doesn't this bring back memories?" 😭 sigh…

What anime was it?

Re: #28
He sounds like a friendly guy
You should've just stolen him from his girlfriend

Good evening, Maaya
What did you have for dinner?

If you promoted it on VIP, people would probably watch

Yesterday there were a bunch of Maaya threads where the ID didn't end in "r" — did you make those, Maaya, or was that someone else? (5ch posters often verify identity by the last character of their poster ID)

Re: #72
That was me 😭 sigh…
I don't know why it changed

Re: #77
Ah, I see, thanks
The last character can turn into a "d" or a "0" sometimes too — it just changes for no clear reason now and then

Re: #77
Lately even on SoftBank mobile data it sometimes turns into a 0
It's surprising — makes you think you accidentally connected to public wifi without realizing

Normal how? Were the guys you've dated before kind of messed up?

Re: #95
People can only date others on the same level as them, you know 😭 sigh…
I long for someone who grew up in a decent, stable home

Re: #98
I see…
Guess if the levels don't match, it just doesn't last

That's surprisingly deep

Background and Key Points

I just want to date a normal person 😭 sigh…

The “Newsspeed VIP” board on 5ch is one of Japan’s largest anonymous forums, and “Chatting with Maaya Until Dawn” belongs to a long-running genre there: a single regular poster becomes a recurring character whose late-night confessions turn into a running soap opera for the board’s regulars. Posters track a user’s identity not by name but by their poster ID’s trailing character, which is why several replies fixate on whether Maaya’s ID ended in “r,” “d,” or “0” — Japanese mobile carriers rotate IP addresses assigned to phones, so the ID string can shift mid-session even for the same person, feeding running jokes about “impostor” posts. That background matters because most of the thread isn’t really about romance; it’s about board members re-establishing that this is genuinely the same Maaya they’ve talked to before.

Where the thread actually splits is over her line that “people can only date others on their own level.” Some read it as fatalistic self-deprecation, others (as in the final reply) treat it as an unexpectedly sharp piece of dating philosophy — the disagreement is about how seriously to take a very online, half-joking confession, not about whether the maxim is true.

What outside readers will likely miss is that Maaya’s “happy memory” — a married coworker who kept talking to her, showing her an old anime ruler — is presented and received by the board as bittersweet nostalgia rather than as a red flag or a come-on; no poster in the thread frames it as something to worry about.
