Sony has globally announced its new Android smartphone, the “Xperia 10 VIII.” On the forum thread, comments split between frustration that the chipset is nearly unchanged from the previous generation, and steady support for it as one of the few remaining models with microSD card support.

Sony has globally announced its new Android smartphone, the “Xperia 10 VIII” (Xperia Ten Mark Eight). No Japan release has been confirmed at this time.

It comes with 8GB of RAM, plus a virtual memory feature that lets up to 6GB of internal storage be used as extra working memory.

The chipset is Qualcomm’s “Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.” The device measures 153×72×8.3mm and weighs 168g. It has 128GB of storage and supports microSD cards up to 2TB. It also features IP68 water and dust resistance.

The chipset hasn't changed, right?
Eh, I dunno…

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is plenty!
9Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:44:38.41ID:+Y/WkiEp0
Good battery life is nice, but
it's still Android…
13Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:46:14.04ID:LnvteKwr0
>>9
Though it doesn't support wireless charging
15Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:46:24.58ID:8hHae9Ki0
RAM/ROM specs are trending down everywhere anyway, so this beats getting handed some garbage-tier "flagship" instead
19Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:48:00.63ID:LnvteKwr0
>>15
Virtual memory (RAM expansion) will probably just keep growing
21Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:49:33.95ID:tDLOf8aXa
Nothing special spec-wise, so it'll probably come in under ¥50,000…
23Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:50:35.27ID:LnvteKwr0
>>21
The Xperia 10 VII was ¥74,800, so no way
24Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:50:44.89ID:ejBBNX6S0
Who's actually buying models like this?
If you care about price or value for money, you wouldn't touch a Sony product anyway
29Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:52:23.05ID:LnvteKwr0
>>24
Once it's out, it'll probably rank near the top of sales at places like the Docomo Online Shop!

>>24
I need an SD card slot, sorry ☺

If you're filming videos of your kids every day,
you'll burn through one 512GB SD card every 3 months

If Galaxy would just bring SD card support back, even on the A50 series alone, I wouldn't need Xperia at all

Xperia 10 VIII (Xperia Ten Mark Eight) 🤔 Which generation even is this? The 10th? The 18th?
31Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:52:57.06ID:LnvteKwr0
>>28
It's the 8th generation of the Model 10 line!
39Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:56:46.54ID:eNYW3qNq0
>>31
Huh, I see
So the Model 10 was such a great model that they just keep making upgraded versions?

Counting from the very first model, how many generations has the Xperia series had in total?
63Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:06:23.78ID:eLzbIF8a0
>>39
High-end — 1 series
Mid-range — 5 series
Entry-level — 10 series

The 10 series is the entry-level line, so it's the lowest-spec in the whole Xperia lineup

>>63, >>39
Besides the Xperia 1 series,
there's also the Xperia PRO-I,
and the Xperia Ace series too…

There sure are a lot of "just buy Sony and you're safe" people

That's because I don't actually find it clunky

If you want microSD support, your only real choices left are Xperia or AQUOS
44Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 13:58:55.34ID:8hHae9Ki0
>>35
There are plenty of other options actually
Brands like TCL, OnePlus, and vivo
74Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:12:28.48ID:lcw5Re0E0
>>35
Right, that's true — it's all Xperia models,
plus only the regular AQUOS, not the PRO 😔

If only the Galaxy A50 series had an SD slot…
Stuff like the A25 is trash. The A23 is small and great
The A53 is great. The A54 cracks easily

>>44
Do phones like TCL, OnePlus, and vivo even have SD card slots?
They're so obscure I have no idea lol
I could at least name Huawei, Xiaomi, or BALMUDA lol
77Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:13:15.24ID:zCfinzeaM
>>74
Vivo actually puts real effort into their cameras

>>77
Would totally want it if it had an SD card slot 😲💡

Has Sony ever actually dominated the smartphone market, even once?
47Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:00:00.81ID:YmVzO3kT0
>>41
I mean, Xperia is basically synonymous with a "dominant smartphone"…
49Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:00:58.76ID:zCfinzeaM
Is Galaxy the top Android brand?
52Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:02:18.02ID:fd8PNRlt0
>>49
Yeah, that's right
Globally too, it's Galaxy, not Apple

Torn between the Pixel 10a and this one

Pixel's garbage, go with Xperia!

If you don't mind an older model, you can get a like-new Xperia 5 IV for ¥24,800
57Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:04:27.20ID:aPNhOmeZ0
>>53
The 5 IV has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which had a really bad reputation

With mobile payments becoming so common, I'm just grateful it's a domestic (Japanese-made) phone
Even if the performance is worse, the peace of mind on security is on a completely different level
Overseas phones might have better specs, but their custom OSes send a lot of mysterious data, so I don't want to use them for anything involving money
67Anonymous2026/08/25(火) 14:08:10.27ID:LnvteKwr0
>>59
It even has something like a "poikatsu mode" (a mode for earning reward/loyalty points)!

There's no such thing as a "Japanese company" anymore. What are you even talking about?
On paper it's a Japanese company, but the shareholders are mostly foreign

>>74
Doesn't Xiaomi not support SD cards anymore?

What about the Xperia 5?
I'm an Xperia 5 user myself

>>80
It's inconvenient, right
I'm still using the 5 III
