Original Members Are Showing Up in Sunshine and Nijigasaki Too — 5ch: ‘Liella! Is the Only One Standing on Its Own Two Feet’

From our other sites

The story

A thread on 5ch’s Love Live! board comparing how each entry in the franchise treats its original members has taken off. The thread starter kicked things off by pointing out that Hasunosora’s pre-tournament PV oddly features footage from “Snow halation” and a close-up of Kousaka Honoka, and that the “Hard-to-Live Club” (Nijigasaki) keeps dropping the names of characters from earlier shows — griping that “they’re really milking the old stuff too hard.” That set off a bigger discussion: Sunshine has had original members appearing since its very first season, and Nijigasaki features both original members and Sunshine members in its mobile game SIF All Stars. A wave of posters praised Superstar (Liella!!) as the one group that built its popularity without leaning on the original cast. The thread later spiraled into fan-vs-fan hostility between the different series, with some posts even naming and exposing a specific individual’s social media account.

Hasunosora ← for some reason their pre-tournament PV includes footage from "Snow halation" and a close-up shot of Kousaka Honoka
The Hard-to-Live Club (a mocking nickname for Nijigasaki's idol club) ← keeps name-dropping characters from past shows, and now even Minami Kotori shows up
They're really milking the old shows way too hard…

SIF All Stars is way too forced.
That world has μ's, Aqours, and Nijigasaki all existing side by side at the same time, so it's not really 'reusing the past.'
Try again.
10AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:47
(Re: #2)
It's less 'treating them as past works' and more just straight-up using μ's and Aqours.
5AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:40
Superstar is honestly impressive for climbing to the top of Love Live's fun-factor rankings all on its own.
6AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:42
Star-Uncle Rule activated!

They're not milking past works, so Star (Superstar/Liella!!) wins!
8AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:47
Lol, you clearly built this thread off my post.
Whatever, fine by me lol.
Bottom line: Liella! is the only one that's gotten this far purely on its own skill and effort.
Though I guess Sunshine gets a pass since it's basically a direct sequel.
9AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:47
There's no 'now' without the past.
Of course that's how it is for a group like Hasunosora that values tradition.
11AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:48
(Re: #9)
That's just dressing up 'exploiting the past' in nicer-sounding words.
12AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:49
The Hard-to-Live Club rips off Aqours plenty too — the jet-ski lady, the woman from the Numazu festival, you name it.
14AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:50
(Re: #12)
That's gross.
At this rate their level of exploitation might catch up to Nijigasaki's.
13AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:49
Hasunosora even used it as a YouTube thumbnail.
15AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:52
Milking "Snow halation" at a Love Live tournament is creepy enough, and putting Honoka front and center is flat-out unacceptable.
Nothing will ever top how precious it is that Liella won back-to-back titles purely on their own strength.
16AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:54
Using μ's makes it so easy to get your name out there, doesn't it.
The fact that they lean on that easy shortcut from day one says it all.
17AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:56
Speaking of the casts, what did those cross-talk sessions with the μ's cast even accomplish?
Aqours took over a year before they finally started doing them, while everyone else jumped right in.
Were they hoping to recreate the μ's phenomenon?
18AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:58
Kotori's design is amazing precisely because it's by Murota Shin, but it's rough imagining her getting redrawn in that Hard-to-Live Club art style.
Even using Kotori's name, I don't want to see her in that character design…
Is this going to be another Kerorira situation like with Nijigasaki?
19AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:58
Sunshine and Superstar are the only ones whose casts have actually gone on record saying they truly love μ's.
The others are probably fuming inside about people using μ's name without permission.
20AnonymousSep 18, 2026 14:59
If they end up showing a Kotori that isn't drawn by Murota… well, you know what that means, right?
21AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:00
Sakurauchi-san is a transfer student from μ's school.
22AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:00
Between the Kerorira thing and the AI controversy, the Nijigasaki/Hasunosora camp's quality is just too low.
23AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:01
Keep it up, Pikaere — go ahead and set the stage so people can bash Liella! to their heart's content.
24AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:06
Staying quiet now won't undo it.

Thread preserved: Mercury stans (Aqours-and-Superstar fans) who hate the whole Nijigasaki/Hasunosora crowd picking fights with everyone.

So if anyone starts screaming 'it's not fair that only Star gets bashed!' — I'll be linking this thread right back at them.
25AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:08
This thread isn't getting added to the keep-alive list.
27AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:14
Whoever keeps posting Pikaere's X (Twitter) links — I hope 5ch's admins hit you with an info disclosure request.
29AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:39
(Re: #27)
This.
That's a straight-up rights violation against Pikaere.
28AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:35
Is this actually something μ's fans are happy about?
31AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:41
So Kotori didn't become a designer after all — she became a schoolteacher?
32AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:44
(Re: #31)
That's rough too.
Her dream never even came true.
33AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:44
Pika-chama's praise for Star (Superstar/Liella!!) gets sloppier and more strained by the day.
And how do they explain the fact that a work made with μ's own creative staff turned out like this in the first place?
34AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:48
Kimi no Sakurako Universe (the mobile-game continuity)
μ's → Aqours → Hard-to-Live-Live
(the Love Live tournament shrinks)

Anime continuity
μ's → Aqours → Liella!
(the Love Live tournament keeps getting bigger)

Link Like Love Live continuity
μ's → Hasunosora
(the tournament gets a bit smaller but keeps going)

Nijigasaki continuity
No consistent timeline — every series crosses over freely
Only the anime skips the other series
35AnonymousSep 18, 2026 15:50
So basically, none of them except Liella! actually compete purely on their own strength.
41AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:11
This one got an actual 'whoa' out of people.
43AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:24
https://x.com/star_TF/status/2100807422340383025

Can't even argue with that.
59AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:52
(Re: #43)
Honestly, that's a fair point.
74AnonymousSep 18, 2026 17:34
(Re: #43)
Sounds like a fair point, but this reeks of a Nijigasaki stan. Something's off.
44AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:25
Back then, the μ's diehards hated Aqours ("Mizu") so much they were desperate to prop up Nijigasaki instead.
47AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:31
(Re: #44)
No matter how many excuses people come up with, it's pretty simple — people got into Nijigasaki mainly because it looked like the best bet to knock off Aqours, μ's biggest rival.
Honestly, the reason Nijigasaki stans are bashing Star (Superstar/Liella!!) now is just because Star's become a threat to them too.
If Nijigasaki had ended up in Hard-to-Live-Live's spot instead, with grown-up Kotori showing up, the μ's diehards would be singing its praises and converting into instant fans.
58AnonymousSep 18, 2026 16:50
Star wasn't nearly as blatant about it, though.
72AnonymousSep 18, 2026 17:30
(Re: #58)
Not just 'not blatant' — they genuinely did it all on their own strength.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Starting with μ’s, the Love Live! franchise has run several groups and projects side by side — Aqours (Sunshine), Nijigasaki, Liella!! (Superstar), and Hasunosora — and newer entries referencing earlier characters or songs is nothing new. What split opinion in this thread was whether to read such references as “respect for tradition” or as “riding on someone else’s popularity to generate buzz,” with many posters singling out Liella!! as an example of a group that built its fanbase without leaning on its predecessors. The back half of the thread saw fan rivalries between the different series flare up, including posts naming and exposing a specific individual’s social media account — content that has been left out of this article since it could identify a private individual.
