Daisuke Hori’s 7-Day Challenge to Sleep Just 30 Minutes a Day Draws Mixed Reactions as 20,000 Viewers Tune In

The story

Streamer Daisuke Hori is livestreaming a project in which he limits his sleep to just 30 minutes a day for one week. As of September 13, several days into the challenge, his viewership has topped 20,000. Hori himself explains it as “part of a daily routine I’ve kept up for 17 years,” but on 5ch forums, doubts about his claims have surfaced after he was seen dozing off mid-stream. Other posts questioned the danger of the stunt by citing Guinness World Record figures for staying awake, compared him to the late mountaineer Nobukazu Kuriki, or criticized him for monetizing the stream through Super Chat donations — opinions have been sharply divided.

No matter when I check in, he's awake. Impressive.
2AnonymousSep 13, 2026 00:47
So far he really has kept it to 30 minutes of sleep a day, huh.
8AnonymousSep 13, 2026 00:49
Re: #2
Can't say for sure, but it's impressive either way 👍
10AnonymousSep 13, 2026 00:50
He's also talking way more than usual, so he must be burning through a lot more energy. Impressive.

Re: #10
Honestly, being monitored 24/7 with zero privacy is the crazy part.
Even getting a normal amount of sleep wouldn't make that bearable.

Re: #101
That part's no big deal, actually.
The Guinness World Record for staying awake keeps getting broken, and all those attempts were monitored by doctors or an audience too.
If anything, a lot of them were done zoo-style in a glass case in the corner of some commercial building.

Re: #101
Not interested in that excuse.
19AnonymousSep 13, 2026 00:53
Is there a chance this guy is the "real deal"? 🤔
26AnonymousSep 13, 2026 00:59
Re: #19
If everything Hori's saying is true, this would be a big enough deal to overturn the entire history of sleep research.
It'd be like someone suddenly running the 100m in under 8 seconds.
22AnonymousSep 13, 2026 00:56
Seriously though, what happens if he dies or ends up with permanent damage?
Who's taking responsibility for that?
29AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:01
Re: #22
There's a word for that: "self-inflicted."
28AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:00
Well, by day 3 he was already clearly not himself — the act is falling apart fast.
By day 5 or 6 it's probably going to be too painful to even watch.
30AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:02
Re: #28
Is the plan for 7 days?
43AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:10
Well, for him this is just another page of a routine he's kept up for 17 years, so
there's no way he'd be sleepy.
44AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:11
Re: #43
He's already dozed off multiple times.
He's definitely sleepy.
49AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:18
Lol, viewers just broke 20,000.
Putting his body on the line to make money.
52AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:18
Re: #49
Apparently the Super Chats are getting refunded/canceled though.
53AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:22
This reminds me of Nobukazu Kuriki, who died on Everest.
Same pattern — hyped up by everyone around him until he couldn't back down anymore.

Yeah, exactly this.
57AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:25
Self-inflicted or not, it'd be awful if he died, so someone should make him stop.
58AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:26
Re: #57
The Guinness record for staying awake is 264 hours, so this won't kill him.
Dozing off constantly for just one week is pretty weak, honestly.
61AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:26
Re: #57
Correction —
the Guinness record for staying awake is 453 hours, so this won't kill him.
Dozing off constantly for just one week is pretty weak, honestly.
66AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:33
This guy's whole day is just bathing, working out, and dozing off — his quality of life must be terrible.
68AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:34
Re: #66
Being awake longer just means more idle time.
Moderation in all things is best.

I started snacking more and gained weight.
67AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:33
He's just forcing himself to stay awake.
Getting proper sleep would obviously be better for his body.
Keep this up and he'll die young.
Seriously, go to sleep.
73AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:41
Re: #67
It's a routine he's kept up for 17 years, so…
72AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:37
I honestly don't get it — the Guinness World Record for staying awake is 453 hours straight, so what does sleeping 210+ minutes over a week even prove?
Unless he streams himself keeping this up for a whole month, it doesn't mean anything.
75AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:45
Re: #72
Sorry, but about one week is exactly the sweet spot for milking Super Chat donations.
Drag it out any longer and people get bored — then all that effort wouldn't earn him any money.
76AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:45
This is day 4, right?
Apparently even an ordinary person could handle it up to this point, but this is where it starts getting life-threatening.

Re: #76
It's not about the number of days — it's a routine he's kept up for 17 years, remember?
88AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:51
Re: #76
Lol, that description fits him perfectly.
77AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:47
Must be a kid talking.
Once you're past 40 you'll realize he's already superhuman at this point.
82AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:49
Re: #77
I'd guess a fair number of people have gone about 72 hours with almost no sleep.
Like cramming for exams or work that absolutely had to get finished.
87AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:51
Re: #77
Plenty of people have pulled off this level of sleep deprivation.
81AnonymousSep 13, 2026 01:49
This sleep deprivation doesn't prove anything.

106AnonymousSep 13, 2026 02:02
"Being monitored," lol.
Hori's the one who said he'd broadcast his daily life — we're just watching it.
If it's really a routine he's kept up for 17 years, he should just carry on with confidence.
109AnonymousSep 13, 2026 02:03
Re: #106
It's not hard to imagine that being watched like this for the first time ever — something he's never tried before — is exactly what's making it hard on him.
112AnonymousSep 13, 2026 02:05
Re: #109
Kind of a "You're the one who started this story!" situation.
115AnonymousSep 13, 2026 02:07
Re: #109
True, but I wish he'd just live his normal life without checking the comments.
Responding to comments doesn't matter at all.
I just want to watch him actually get through a week on 30 minutes of sleep a day, normally.
120AnonymousSep 13, 2026 02:10
Getting famous without causing trouble for anyone else — gotta admit that's impressive of him.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Daisuke Hori, the streamer at the center of this story, has declared he will spend a week living on just 30 minutes of sleep a day. Commenters on the thread cited sleep-deprivation world record figures (such as 453 hours), but these numbers come from posters’ own recollections and have not been verified for accuracy in this article. The mountaineer brought up for comparison, Nobukazu Kuriki, drew attention for attempting to summit Everest solo without supplemental oxygen and died during a climb in 2018; even during his lifetime, questions had been raised about the accuracy of his claims. Hori’s own description of this as “a routine I’ve kept up for 17 years” is likewise something that can’t be verified externally, and this difficulty in verification is part of why viewers have been so divided over whether to believe him. It’s also worth noting that the criticism over monetizing the stream via Super Chat is speculation on the part of 5ch commenters, not something confirmed to reflect Hori’s actual intent.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Nandemo Jikkyo G) thread “Anyone still refusing to acknowledge Daisuke Hori at this point is being unreasonable lol.”
